1991 Warwick Thumb NT 4. Now - £1699 shipped Mainland UK Good overall condition given the age - lots of photos below of the bass in different light etc to show the condition. Set up nicely and does the classic thumb thing. Few minor marks on the body, mainly around the edges. Some marking on the front face of the bass from thumb wear. Ding on the underside of the neck between the 10th and 11th fret.12 points

Ring the shop and get it taken off sale. They'll hold it until the police go and seize it and it can then be returned to you. I used to be on very good terms with the Cash Converters on my old beat. There were never any issues seizing stolen goods but they wouldn't return anything reported as stolen without my permission (I guess that was company policy). If it was bulky stuff I could arrange for the owner to collect it from them despite it technically being seized. They were always good with the CCTV of the dodgy gear being traded in, they could pull up their invoice and find the footage from the time on their record, and they'd always give a statement to ID the 'seller'. Despite their poor reputation they helped me to get thousands of pounds worth of nicked gear back to the rightful owners.7 points

Fender AM/bitsa P bass. After pining after a custom shop relic I decided to create my own. I kinda used Stevie Vai’s strat as a rough model for the level of paint. So……. It’s essentially an American P bass with a new Northwest body, the body was sprayed with nitro paints and reliced accordingly, the back of the neck was very carefully stripped & sanded and treated with tru oil & graphite powder to give that worn/dirty look (I’m really pleased how this came out), it has a gotoh bridge & Kiogon loom. The nut width is 42mm. It has a new set of chromes with around 12hrs of use. There are no gouges or nicks as I personally don’t like that bit of relic’d guitars. It plays beautifully. I didn’t get round to sourcing vintage style knobs before I discovered medium scale basses🤷♂️ Obviously the asking price is far less than the build cost (as with most ‘bitsa’ basses) so I think it’s priced fairly considering it pretty much a standard US P bass. Only trade would be a quality medium scale bass with cash available accordingly.6 points

For sale/trade is my Fender 50s P bass, collection from Croydon or if in the London area can arrange to meet. I swapped out the pickguard for a cheapy cream pickguard, I will include the original anodised gold pickguard also. This bass has some cosmetic flaws hence the low price, I have seen the Fender Vintera which is the model that replaced this one but is basically the same thing going for close to a grand so I think this is a very fair price, also will trade for an Ibanez SR bass I like this bass a lot and has served me well for many gigs but I really have gas for an Ibanez sr bass at the moment so this has to go I have added a Dimarzio Ultra jazz bridge pickup, the P pickup has been replaced with a Warman p pickup and the person who owned the bass before me swapped the bridge for a Wilkinson bridge. The controls are volume, volume and it is wired up with a solderless wiring harness. In terms of the cosmetic flaws I mentioned earlier there is a finish crack from the neck pocket that extends to the bass horn, the guy who fitted the bridge pickup said he thought it was because the neck pocket was such a tight fit. Action is slightly higher than I would like it but strangely enough when I had TI Jazz flats on this bass a while ago I was able to get the action quite low. The bass sounds really good, the Warman pickup has a nice clarity to it and the Dimarzio Ultra jazz bridge pickup adds some high end snap.5 points

Unfortunately that's an urban myth that refuses to die. See this very insightful article by a chap who knows way more about compression than many of will ever know - Killed my tone (ovnilab.com) Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be antagonistic or out to upset you, it's just a common misunderstanding that keeps rearing its ugly head Compression has been covered to death on Basschat and is a very divisive subject but let's not open that can of worms again.5 points

After they put out the Embassy, I wondered how long it would take them to do the Newport. Well, now they have, short scale lovers. Around £350 gets you a pretty decent modern reinterpretation of the pre '63 Newport. Nice colours too. There's not even a sniff of them on the Epiphone website yet, but they're in retailers now (picture nicked from Peach Guitars, Guitar Guitar have 'em too, probably others)4 points

Retrovibe Vantage Bass This was the pre Chowney Retrovibe series I believe with the serial number written in pen on the headstock. The bass looks like the offspring of a meeting between two very different well known US made basses. The design actually works very well and the bass has a great sound and feel. I’m not sure if it’s of Korean or Indian manufacture as there are different threads out there about them however the opinions are very positive. The bass is certainly of decent enough quality and plays well. The passive MM style pickups are loud with a good array of tones. The knobs are not original and if you look carefully they all have ‘treble’ lettering as opposed to two treble and two bass. I will include the original Jazz bass style knobs if you prefer. The bass is lightweight at under 4kgs and balances well on a strap. There is a chamfer on the upper part of the body making it comfy to play despite the binding. I’m selling it as I decided I need to get another 4003s bass. I had fallen out with them (again) but this has whetted my appetite for one. The bass has minor cosmetic bumps and scratches to its body. There is a paint crack near the neck joint see pic but this is cosmetic and doesn’t effect the very solid neck to body joint. There was a QC issue in that the pole pieces didn’t line up well with the strings so I moved the pickup by filing the scratchplate down. The neck route was pretty rough but now I’ve moved the pickup a couple of millimetres to the left it means the pole pieces on the neck pickup line up better. There is no case but I have a decent box so can post in the UK only at buyer’s cost. It’s strung with flats. An interesting take on some classic designs.4 points

Do we have time for an anecdote..? We do..? OK, then, a story from my apprentice days... A young colleague at the time was Mick Greenfield. He was a BEA Mechanics apprentice (I was Avionics...), and, during our training at Heathrow, he had access to some sophisticated machine shop equipment. He made good use of it, re-building a Vincent that he had rescued from goodness knows where. The bike was stripped, and all its mechanics overhauled, restored and made as good (or better...) than new, this over a period of over a year. At last came the Great Day; time to see if the now-complete bike would run. Mick was not really small, but rather slightly built, so, when he primed the carbs, switched on and went to kick it over, he jumped onto the kick, which budged not one bit. Everyone watching had a go, but even heavyweight George couldn't shift it. What to do..? Someone (I forget who...) had the idea of trying a running start, attaching the frame with a chain to the rear bumper of a Land Rover. Mick sat on the saddle as the Landie pulled away, and once a little speed had been built up along the airport car park, he let out the clutch. The Vincent stopped dead, and the rear bumper of the Landie was pulled clean off with a loud 'Clang'. He had to dismantle the barrels and re-bore with slightly more tolerance than the factory spec, and put it back together with lots of oil, to enable the pistons to move. It ran eventually, but it was always a sight to see Mick leap high into the air to kick it into life. All of this, of course, well before the invention of electric start; that would be cheating..! Happy daze..!4 points

The 2 Elf 1 x 10 cabs I use are phenomenally loud, sound amazing, fill the room and keep up with a loud drummer and guitarist. I don't give a rat's for the maths or what you can 'prove' on paper. They're monsters. Oh and I own and regularly gig with Barefaced cabs. These easily hold their own in comparison and are far better made.4 points

*** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks, *** This fabulous amp is now back up for sale after a recent Basschat sale fell through due to the amp suffering some minor internal damage whilst in Parcelforce's non-existent care!! Happily, that minor damage has been professionally repaired now by the brilliant Mick Newman at MC Electronics in Bedford and the amp is back in full working order, having been given a clean bill of health by Mick. *** So, "Seconds out, Round 2" .. 😁 For sale only, 1 x Handbox R400 bass amp in very good condition and excellent working order (see attached photos). I'm looking for £450 or very near offer. Backstory is that it was previously owned by @Captain Rumble until it came to me in a trade in 2021. Bit of a feeler this one tbh as it's a great amp, but I have not really been using it as I tend to always gig my Mesa Boogie gear. Anyway, I guess if you're reading this, you'll know already what a great reputation these amps have for superb sound, superior build quality and fantastic design principles - as I think someone said on here recently, they're a 'future classic!' And all of that is true really - for such a portable and easy to use piece of kit, the R400 packs a fabulous sonic punch! Should you want to know more, here's a link to the Handbox webpage: http://www.handbox.pl/R-400-MINI-HEAD-p142.html And there's a link to an excellent demo of these amps by our very own @wateroftyne - who I think it's fair to say, has been (quite rightly) championing Handbox for a number of years now. And there's plenty more good stuff (reviews, vids, discussion etc) online about the R400, including this Basschat mega thread here: I'm based in Potton, Bedfordshire and would much prefer to sell the amp to someone who's able to collect in person for the reasons stated above. Alternatively, I'd be happy to arrange a meet up in person within an hours drive from me.. Trials welcome obviously, with the obligatory Basschat tea/coffee /biscuits offer to friendly Basschatters! 😁☕ Thanks for looking and if you have any questions, please PM me, or ask away here. Cheers Nik3 points

Very rare UK built Shergold Marathon 8 string bass in cherry red. Probably made in 1980/81 as the shield logo is the later embossed version. There were very few of these made and this is all original but missing the small trussrod cover. The pickup sounds great and the bass plays well on the lower frets but past the 12th some of the notes choke out. So it could do with a set up and work on the higher frets to sort this out. The bass is strung with a GHS custom set. The bass is light weight and other than the usual Shergold lacquer cracking and some dings and marks is in fairly good condition for a forty plus year old bass. The bass has two outputs for stereo but I’ve not used this facility. The neck is nice and slim and as it’s an 8 string with lots of tension on the neck the neck has a slight forward bow. I have also played this as a four string bass and it is typical Shergold very playable and punchy sounding. Truss rod works as it ought to. A piece of history. No case or bag but I can post at cost. Only selling as I am moving house and need to move on some of my collection. UK only. No trades. Thanks!3 points

Here is my Squier Precision P/J special. This was my gigging back up bass and is lovely! I’ve had the pots and the jack socket all replaced and the bass was recently set-up. Its been well used and what you’d call roadwork condition. The pickups are strong and it plays amazingly well. I’ve had a guess at the value as I simply don’t know. Having invested a few quid on it, this seems fair but feel free to DM and chat! £180 collected from Bristol or handover somewhere nearby. Reason for sale is space and gear rationalisation. (And, err, something large and expensive incoming).3 points

Based on what I've seen in youtube videos (and with limited experience) yes. I successfully did some pup routing using a much less powerful router and I intend to use a similar hand router to the one you listed for my next build, but the one I've gone for is a lot less expensive ... but has great reviews! https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LVVJ99U I am given to understand tho that a template is essential and that it is best to remove most of the wood using a wide drill bit (bit and brace type drill bit), this reduces the work the router has to do and makes the process smoother/better. Just nipped down a YouTube rabbit hole looking for the hoax cover of 'I've got a mind to give up living' - which is ace itself and has a bit of a Nawlins funeral procession swing to it, when I came across this........ Never knew they covered it, so it's new to me. Just solidifies for me why Peter Green is the best British guitarist imo. No one comes close to the level of feel and emotion he puts into his playing. Wonderful stuff.3 points

They responded to my message this morning saying they are discussing the matter with the owner. Hopefully this means @ymdtzx has got in touch with the shop and not that the shop have got in touch with the person/thief that sold it to them... Let's hope @ymdtzx responds to this thread soon with positive news.3 points

Following an annoying gig where a previously silent pedal board became a noise monster the moment I plugged it into the venue's power, I realised something must be done. I toyed with the EHX Hum Debugger, but unsure whether it was what I needed, I felt the price (and size) made it an expensive gamble. An intensive internet search threw up this and for 12 quid it seemed worth a punt. 2 channels, so in theory double bubble, small, light, no power needed, 1/4" jack sockets - all good right? Well, so far so good. The noise tends only to rear it's ugly head at a gig (s0ds law) so I can't be 100% sure. However, I used my nastiest power supply, cheapest cables and two pedals notorious for adding noise to my chain. Turned the amp up full and used a non humbucking pickup. The noise went. The sound was unaltered. Win... So far.3 points

I chucked mine away to represent me throwing away my ridiculous old fashioned concepts such as being able to have an opinion that's different to somebody elses , short sightedly not wanting to see talented young women put off sport because they'll get beaten by blokes and my ludicrous expectation that the police that I pay for should investigate an armed robbery instead of arresting an old lady for innocently giving her rescue kitten an unfortunate name. Be gone , you string ends , and take the evil thoughts of this vile throwback with you !3 points

When I worked in automotive engineering we used a lot of Chinese made parts and as long as you keep on top of the QC they're fine. Give them an occasional non conformance note so they know its being checked and the quality is spot on but let it start to slip a bit and you get problems. I guess BMW and Harley didn't keep on top of their QC checks. Let's be honest, faulty wiring is part of the Triumph character. It brings back memories of British made Lucas wiring. There was a bloke on TV a while back with a Lancia and when asked whether everything worked he said If everything worked then it would be an Audi and I don't want an Audi.3 points

I’ve got a Cort headless Flying V guitar. Though mine is bright yellow at the moment. One day, many years ago, I saw it’s bass twin in a guitar shop. This bass was played three times since it was purchased new from Maruszczyk in november 2022, it has been used only a couple of times as I quit the band I bought it for and I also have a lovely 70's jazz that is my favorite for playing at home, so this beauty has been sitting packed and boxed in my storage room for the past two months, waiting for a new owner that will give her the love she deserves. She has one small uneveness in the paint on the lower horn (see picture, red arrow). Luckily this blemish is not noticable from a distance and you will probably have to look for it up close in order to notice it's there. Except for this little blemish the bass is absolutely mint and in showroom condition. New price was 1550 Euro + 50 for shipping. MARUSZCZYK INSTRUMENTS ELWOOD 4p ' Stealth Black' Medium Scale 32" • Body: alder • Neck: flamed maple • Neck profile: modern C • Fingerboard: ebony with white binding • Frets/Inlays: 21 frets, MOP block inlays • Nut width: 40 mm • Construction: bolt on • Scale length: medium scale 32" • Pickguard: 1ply black • Pickups: Delano JC 4 AL • Electronics: passive - volume, volume, tone • Finish: black, body gloss/neck matte • Hardware: black, Standard bridge with 19 mm string spacing, Dome-style knobs, Clover tuner Weight: 3,82 kg incl. Now Sold! As I slowly edge my way towards owning just a few instruments, this stunning Sadowsky is the next one up for sale. As an ex-Sadowsky dealer, I had first look at everything that came into the store. This particular one came from a customer in Canada, who had it custom made for him in NYC, and as soon as it arrived I knew it was 'the one' for me. It's quite simply the best J-style bass I've ever owned (and I've owned a LOT!). However, I pretty much only play my, shorter scale, Ritters these days and it seems a shame for this to be sitting on the wall & only taken down once a month or so. Sadowsky basses really are designed to be pro-level 'gig-machines'. It's hard to explain but they just sit perfectly in a live band mix & that onboard tone control offers so much subtle tweaking across songs - perfect in a covers band environment when you need to go from a clear precise tone to something with more grind & then back right off in pure passive tone control mode. It's been gigged maybe 10 times in its life and always kept under direct supervision. As a few people here know, I always keep every one of my instruments in excellent condition & this is no exception. It has some swirl marks on the pickguard, a few on the rear and some very tiny marks near the lower strap pin where I'm assuming it was rested on the ground at some point by the previous owner. Fretboard is a, pricey upgrade, Amazon rosewood and all frets, the board itself and the maple neck are in superb condition. The thin nitro finish on the back of the neck shows no signs of wear at all. Official specs are: Dark Cherry Burst Quilted Maple Top - one of those that Roger does so well with amazing depth of colour Chambered Swamp Ash Body - weighs just 8.2lbs / 3.7Kg Amazon Rosewood Fingerboard Mother of Pearl Face Dots (note that this is what the spec says but they look quite plain to me) Maple Neck with thin Nitro Finish 1.5" nut 21 Frets 20mm Bridge Spacing - EDIT, checked with Roger (and a tape!) and this would have the regular Sadowsky 20mm spacing not 19mm Sadowsky Humcancelling J pickups Sadowsky Preamp - Master Volume, Pickup Blend, Vintage Tone Control (with pull for passive mode), Treble & Bass Boost Current price for a new one of these with these specs is exactly $7,000 / £5,650 - that's excluding any delivery charges, VAT or Import duties. It is now possible to specify a Masterbuilt bass from Warwick in Germany but I don't think it would be any cheaper & the wait list is long - besides, it won't have had Roger's hands on it either, which, for me, was always something quite important as part of the 'brand experience' 😂 I've, therefore, priced it at around 25% off the base price for a new one. It will come in a Hiscox hard case & with a nearly new Sadowsy neoprene strap (super comfortable and, at just 8.2lbs, great for long sets!). I can potentially ship almost anywhere. EDIT: Checked direct with Sadowsky, and Gov sources, and this instrument would not require a CITES certificate for international shipping.2 points

After creating a shielded housing for the HiFiberry card (Which I located away from the Pi via some GPIO extension wires) I found a slight improvement, but was still not getting the audio quality I hoped for. I looked around to see what alternative ADC/DAC cards exist for the PI ... not many! And then I stumbled across a 'as new' MOD Dwarf for an irresistible price ... and took the easy way forward! I collect it on Saturday It is possible that I might revisit BOME when/if a new version of ElkOS comes out, they use their own device driver for the HiFiberry running at a super low latency and I think this might address the noise artifacts I've been getting. In the meantime however, I'll be looking at how to 'tune' the Dwarf to my liking by adding an external footswitch and expression unit (most likely self build like the Trampa unit I built last year) and might even dip into writing a plugin or two that are bass focussed. The Boss CS3 Compression Sustainer is misleadingly named, it's not a compressor as such, it's a sustainer. A sustainer is a compressor with a really low threshold which means that even at minimum settings it flattens your entire signal - and you only add more squash by cranking it up. It's designed to add extra sustain to your playing, so ideally suited to guitar solos but not a lot else, unless you like that super flat feel as an effect. A compressor with an adjustable threshold that goes high enough to only control the peaks is a very different beast altogether and way more useful on bass.2 points

im not saying do this, but with the info you have submitted and the shop can check on line the the clame is gen, if it was my bass i would walk into the shop, show id leave my name and address with proof and take the bass and walk out, if they try and stop you tell them to ring the police but your not leaving with out the bass, at worst the police would have to take the bass or at least an incedent report will have to be made then at least they wont be able to sell the bass, but i would walk out the shop with it and ask them to call the police if wanted at least its in your possesion then, thats only what i would do, i would not be able to stop myself doing just that being so anoyed !, im not sure of the repercussions of that but i would just not care. loads more bad advice on request 🙂2 points

I've played acoustic upright for 32 years, still got the one I started with. In that time I've bought and sold several EUBs (including an Eminence) and was always dissatisfied with them. They just never sound right. I spent a small fortune on strings trying to improve them, to no avail, so I have given up and now stick with the real thing. Feedback? What feedback? I use a Krivo magnetic pickup and can hold my bass right in front of my amp without feedback. I have tried many types and brands of piezo pickups over the years (Shadow, Fishman, Barbera, Underwood, Bassmax, Zac Victor) and while the Zac is the best sounding, none sound as good as the Krivo, no matter what genre I'm playing. If it matters I play a German solid top with Eurosonics and no preamp. Just my experience, hope it helps.2 points

Song about a zoo and ice cream that makes no sense at all. the lyrics don`t. I tried reggae this time. I played and recorded the drums first, kick, snare rim, and hat, the beat has a slight variation in the chorus. Four guitar tracks recorded with SM57 against Marshall amp , one with a wah. Bass recorded with AKG d112 against bass amp. steel drums and trumpets played with a keyboard. Four vocal (ish) tracks recorded separately. Once the vocals recorded, I added few percussions with my drum kit, snare , toms, cow bell, cymbals etc.2 points

I sale this beautiful Yamaha 6 strings. I prefer to sell it because i only play 4 strings basses and it's a shame to let it sleep in its case. I had the same before (but 5 strings version) and even if it was a incredible bass, this one sounds 'deeper', B string is awesome, it's a monster tone, a pure bass sound (see comments on google you will find easily informations about what i write here). Specs : - 3bands eq + piezzo + volume + PU balance (no passive mode) - Yamaha double coil Alnico PU - Ash body with bubinga table top - Neck-trough construction (maple with mahogany) - Ebony fretboard - 24 frets / 35" scale - Original Yamaha hardcase - 5.3kg (very well balanced) - 18mm strings spacing Strings are still original ones, i don't change them for the sale because they still sound bright... This basse was barely played 2 or 3 hours (maybe less) since the buy in 2008 and produced in October 2007 (# 57). I cleaned it yesterday and i saw no scratches on it (see pictures they speak for themselves), quite incredible for an over 15 years instrument. I let plastics covers so they can be remove by the next owner 🙂 . Full set up done - low action 1.3mm (B string) / 1.5mm (C string) Price : 1700 euros shipment not include ! I can trade it, just ask me. I just don't play fretless and i have preference for 4 strings basses (5 strings ok too).2 points
