  1. Got this recently and as much as I love it and it's ace, I'm just preferring my P basses at the moment and I've got my eye on something so it's available German Warwick Corvette $$ Special Edition 2010 No.30/85. One of only 85 made and one of only two fitted with Bartolini Pickups and 3 band MEC EQ instead of the normal two band found on a $$, was a special edition for German suppliers in 2010. The body is a 50/50 split of Swamp ash and Tigerwood. The neck is slim and very fast, made of Ovangkol with a Wenge fretboard with 24 bell brass frets, and brass adjustable nut. The original tuners have been replaced with superior Gotoh tuners (the Warwick tuners often break). If that is not enough the bass is also fitted with Bartolini pickups and 3 band EQ. Each pickup can be switched between Parallel, Single Coil and Series mode, the variety of sounds is amazing. The active MEC EQ has a stack-pot volume and pickup blend with push pull passive mode control, with individual high, mid and low frequency controls. Condition is 9.9/10 I cant find a mark on it but its a 12 year old bass so there must be one somewhere. Everything is in excellent working order, electronics, bridge, truss rod etc. fretwork is immaculate. The bass comes with all the official paperwork, Warwick user kit. and gig bag. Shipping will be at the buyers expense. Weight is 4.5kg, balance is perfect.

  2. Fender CIJ 1962 reissue precision bass (PB62-60) from 2007. Selling as I have now moved to 5 strings and so this does not get the attention it deserves. I have owned this from new when purchased in 2007 and it does have some wear and tear from being gigged through the years but still sounds great. I have tried to capture any dings but let me know if any other pictures or info would help. I haven't got the weight to hand but let me know if needed and I shall try and get an accurate measurement. It originally came with a white scratchplate which I replaced with the tortoiseshell seen here shortly after purchase (from this very site I believe!). I'm not convinced I still have the original white one but it may turn up. I'm based in Denbighshire but can arrange delivery across North Wales. I'm also regularly gigging around the North West, particularly Manchester. Not overly keen on arranging a courier in the first instance as I don't have a hard case. Any questions then please let me know!

  5. Hi folks, I'm offering this gorgeous 5 string USA Lakland 55-64 up for sale again. I had this up for sale some time ago but kept it. Up on well know auction site but I thought I'd see if I get any better interest on here. This bass was known as the Bob Glaub model and now 55-64 "Vintage P". I think this is a 2016 model. Here are the specs; 35" scale Alder body Fiesta Red finish Tort pickguard 1 piece maple neck satin finish Rosewood board Birdseye maple dot inlays Hipshot ultralight tuners Passive tone controls Lindy pickup Strung with TI Flats Weight 4.4kg Condition is excellent. One tiny dink on the headstock. One tiny check in the lacquer near the jack as pictured. Plays and sounds like butter. This is the best bass I've ever owned but my priorities in life are elsewhere at the moment. I'm sure i will regret selling this for sure. Long waiting list and about £4000 to buy a new one of these. Comes with its plush lined Lakland hardcase. Sale will include a pretty much brand new Neotech Megastrap. Price is £1950 ono. We can discuss me delivering to you in person/half way if I'm anywhere near your location at the time. I'd much prefer collection if possible. I live very close to Silverstone. Any questions or comments welcome. No trades so please don't ask! Thanks alot, Pete

  6. As it's one in, one out now, my lovely Ibanez SRH500F has to go. It is really in mint condition, having been bought last year, played in our non smoking home only. It's a semi-hollow, fretless Soundgear with a bridge with individual Piezo pickups built in, along with volume and tone. Side dots are where they should be for a fretless, and offset fretboard markers at the top side of the bound Panga Panga fingerboard, which is also lined. However the lines are black, and I can't see them unless I'm looking for them. Belt and Braces ? Body is Okoume, with a Spruce top, with a contoured heel and arm rest. Neck is SRH45pc Jatoba/Walnut with a width of 38mm at the nut, and 62mm at 24th fret. It plays great, with the supplied D'Addario ECB81-5 Flatwound Strings and Ibanez's AeroSilk Piezo bridge doing a great double bass sound, and there's Mwah if you want it. Individual string Piezo volume can be adjusted on the back of the bass It didn't come with a case, but I bought a really good copy of the Ibanez case that comes with the Premium range, and I'll throw that in with it. Price is currently £699 new @ Andertons with no case, or bag, just a cardboard box. So hopefully, given the "as new" condition, and including the case, I'm in the right ballpark. I'm prepared to post, as I have a couple of bass boxes, but only at the buyer's postage and insurance expense. Paypal, bank transfer (must be showing in my account), or cash on collection. Any questions, just ask

  7. I need to confess that I have fallen deeply in love with this bass. Back in the day I owned a 1964(3?) Epiphone Newport bass (single Pup not the Batwing headstock) and I traded it for a 1969 Gibson slot head EB3 in walnut, which I still own. Ever since Epiphone reissued the Embassy bass, I have waited patiently for the reissue of the Newport bass. So as soon as they were available, I bought one from Guitarguitar. Yes, it had a few QC issues but nothing that could not be sorted. So I did the following: - · Installed a Hipshot Supertone 2-point bridge. · Adjusted the nut to my preferred height. · Fitted a 1.5mm thick piece of hard card under the neck Pup cover to lower the Ceramic 8 magnets and reduce the string pull. · Fitted a set of short scale D’Addario Chrome flat wounds. · Replaced the Pickard with a superb Brian Pillans Blk/Wh/Blk · Rewired the bridge Pup to switch the phase. · Added a 0.2uF cap to the stock 0.2uF creating a 0.4uF · Dunlop straplocks. The Newport is now mine ALL mine!! It plays superbly, lovely smooth neck with a great feel, it hugs my rounded beer belly, sits perfectly balanced ( for me) and sounds sublime if you are a Gibson/ Epiphone kinda guy. Deep warm lows, T’Bird highs and sparkle , and very typical EB3 tones in-between. The pickguard was made by Brian Pillans of https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/earlpilanz An absolute perfect fit and adds a bit of vintage vibe reminiscent of my ’69 EB3 and SG basses. The Hipshot Supertone bridge is great, I have previously fitted a 3-point gold one to my Epiphone Rumbly Kat, so I knew what to expect BUT I did not expect the fixing bolts to have an Imperial thread. The 3-point bridge is shipped with both M8 Metric and SAE Imperial threaded fixing bolts but since Hipshot’s target market for the 2-point bridge is old Epiphone and Gibson basses they only include the SAE fixing bolts. Marcus at Bass Direct sorted the problem and it now appears that in future Hipshot will be shipping both types on the 2-point Supertone bridges. ( got an email from Oscar Yuan at Hipshot confirming it). Happy days 😄

  9. This arrived late this afternoon, bought as a B stock item for £167. Even took the liberty of paying it over 3 months with paypal. Gave it a thorough look over, set up and play and all I can think of is that some of the fret ends were rough. Since fixed that and I have to say I am hugely impressed with this much bass for so little money.

  11. An update on my HB Mustang-alike post above. It's here and, despite not having the same nut width as advertised (it's 38mm, not 41.3mm), I'm very pleased. A little fettling and modding has taken place and now it's good to go. Got out the screwdriver, soldering iron, fret finishing kit and some copper tape (it's a bit buzzy, but so was my JMJ pre tape and this has a single coil to take into consideration) and battle commenced. Installing the balance pot was definitely the way to go for me, there are now 5 definite tones to be had with, as expected, a kind of 60/40 split, favouring the neck pickup, being my favourite. These Roswell pickups are really punchy and very articulate and not just for money, they are just good pickups, although the edges of the plastic covers are a bit sharp my liking, particularly the bridge p/up, but that's potentially an easy fix down the road (I think plain, solid tops would look ace). Ran some 800 & 1000 grit, followed by some micro mesh over the fret ends and it's much nicer, despite catching the paint work with the emery paper in the lower cutaway like the doofus I am . Some neck relief was required and seems to have settled down well, the set up is now about 2mm at the 12th, with plenty of room for more adjustment in the bridge (the tops of the saddle grub screws are quite sharp and need some love from a file). In conclusion, I'm very pleased and, for the money, I think these these are unbeatable. It stands up well side by side with my other 2 shorties and I have no qualms about gigging it, in fact, given the cost, it'll be the perfect bass for less salubrious venues, without having to sacrifice anything tonally.

  12. OK, concerns sorted with the lovely folks at Thomann (their customer service seems to be very good and an example to other retailers) and I'm keeping it. That means, out with the screwdriver, soldering iron, the fret finishing kit and some copper tape. 16. Fender Jazz Bass. Crafted in Japan £775 Oh dear, I have another bass incoming and as I already have far too many, with a heavy heart, I’ve made the decision to sell my lovely red Crafted in Japan Fender Jazz. I’ve loved owning this bass and it was my bestie during lockdown stuck in the house. It weighs 9.1lbs and plays like a dream. All the well-known sounds are there - smooth front pickup and lovely Jaco honk at the back pickup with everything in between. The neck is really nice to play. I can feel a slight scuff on the back of the neck but almost impossible to photograph. The action is set nice and low. I’ve been playing it without the white scratchplate. It’s a stunner. But I’ve shown it with and without and obviously I’ll include it in the sale. Serial Number on the Fender website says it was crafted in Japan between 1999 and 2002 It has a couple of dings which I’ve tried to show. - One scuff on the back of the neck as I said and one paint chip where the body meets the neck. £775. Happy to meet up half way within reason. I’m in Malvern, Worcestershire. UK sale only.

  19. Current bi amp rig for Rock/metal covers band... Laney takes care of the lows in a big way...rest runs fun stuff. Spark is a new addition simply to boost level for my P bass as its output is way lower than my Jazz and Dingwall. Would like to swap out Demon FX pedals for DG originals but simply don't have the cash...and from my research pretty much sound identical...maybe one day. Apollo 2 phaser is a staggering pedal on guitar or bass. Totally nails that Lizzy Alibi tone.... Chorus lands well for Sweet child of mine... B7k clone is set with low drive and really gets me the Harris clack along with p bass and flats. Octave used conservatively on Land of confusion ( disturbed) and lay down your love (Whitesnake) really thickens sound. Sheehan pedal ( my fav) for all the Mr Big/ winery dogs stuff... I am trialling the Joyo battery power supply with this. No issues with charge times..it runs this lot for 4 hours plus... But to reduce anxiety levels at gigs I charge it in the gap between sets... No cables ..no ground loops... No earthing issues.. and cheap...and if you don't like it use it as a battery charger for your phone..it has usb out! I ditched my George Ls to try Harley Benton solderless patch cables ..unbelievable value and am running 3 boards without a single issue ..the sockets are super compact as well. Have recommended to loads of people without issue...

  21. Okay, Tonerider is in place and I've had a noodle. Very pleased with the upgrade, it is sounding how I want the bass to sound and is everything I hoped for. The HB PB Shorty was OK with the stock pickup but with a sound that was a bit more 'vintage' than I aim for, not enough edge. As a consequence I wasn't using it. The Tonerider has given it more bite and a fatter sound. Much more presence. But, roll off the tone a bit, it will still do Vintage if needed, just a bigger version. Less aggressive than the Entwistle PBXN but more rounded and - dare I say - better. At least, more what I was looking for. To be honest, as far as my bad ears go, it doesn't sound a whole lot diffeerent to the Fender Custom Shop 62. For the money it is astonishing and transformed a back up into a really good gigable bass for by blues/rock band. For around £100 total outlay, too. Wow.

  23. I produced a punkrock classic yesterday (it's a proper earworm, despite my "singing") in 40 minutes flat... However, I may have to reject it for this month's challenge as there's so much swearing all you'd hear would be bleeps (some would say that'd make it better 😁), and leaving all the ranty rudeness in would no doubt offend, especially those who are a little on the right of the political spectrum 😀 Even the title's offensive! Perhaps a nice bit of blues instead?

  24. Yes it’s an XM2 but also quite a rarity as it’s got the TransTrem bridge. You can see the whammy bar clearly around 22:30. So that made it officially an XM2T.

  25. 100% real. No Fakers ever accurately copied the inlay material, that's always a dead giveaway. The elongated string holes on the tailpiece are another Rick identifier. I think this is mid/late 70s from the Hi-Gain pickup & black ferrules - full width inlays were discontinued in 1972 & reappeared on the 4003 in the mid '00s. Even if it's stolen, the seller's just robbed themselves. Look forward to seeing this pop back up with a £2000+ price tag. ...it's what I'd do...

  29. Another bass that I’ve rarely played, and growing in value/collectability. Made in Japan, the serial number dates to 1994/1995. A few small dings commensurate with age, a little fret wear, slight scratching with the pots. Condition is very good. I’ve seen these go for crazy money but I think the asking price is sensible. If you want it shipped, I’ll buy a cheap hard case for it and add that to the overall cost – or you can send me a case and I’ll ship it in that. I will ship outside of the UK. All shipping will be fully insured and at cost which will be added onto the price of the bass. I’m happy to travel a reasonable distance to meet you to ensure it doesn’t get damaged in transit. I’ll accept offers on the asking price of £800

  30. For sale: Hello Kitty Stratocaster - Squier by Fender (£649) Really not sure about this!! Doing a major clear out at the moment, and this quirky little Strat is next up on the block. These were only made for a brief period, and are fairly rare and highly sought after these days, with as-new examples exchanging hands for up to a grand. The previous owner had owned it from new since she was a teenager, and it is completely stock and unmodified. It features a maple neck (with an oversized late-60s style headstock, maple fingerboard and pink dot inlays), a slightly thinner Strat-shaped body with a hardtail bridge, a pink finish, a single volume control, and a bridge humbucking pickup (both in white). Unique Hello Kitty scratchplate / pickguard, and the Hello Kitty logo on the back. I think these were originally marketed towards girls, but it is very cool and I didn’t see anything wrong with playing it myself; it sustains and sings and I will happily keep it if no one bites! Apart from some sun fade on the front and a few superficial scratches that aren’t noticeable (mainly on the back) unless you look carefully, it’s in wonderful condition. This one has been recently set up professionally (with 9s) and plays beautifully. There is a cool little article about “How a Hello Kitty Guitar Became The Hottest Stratocaster” here: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/dec/11/hello-kitty-guitar-stratocaster £649 (cash, bank transfer or PayPal gift) collected or may be able to deliver or meet up somewhere along the SE London / Croydon / Guildford (Surrey) area. Would prefer a sale rather than a trade… but try me if you have something particularly interesting. Would prefer not to post, especially since I don’t have a suitable case. I have a few bits and bobs on the block in the next few weeks / months, so let me know if you are interested and I’ll keep you posted. #guitar #sale #squier #fender #strat #stratocaster #hellokitty #london

  31. Hi all. Have decided to see if there's any interest in my lakland 55 AJ. Stunning looking, playing and sounding bass. It's been fitted with a brand new sadowsky preamp. These preamps are great, runs a volume blend tone with a push pull for the active 2 band. It has an incredibly punchy and clear tone, helped with the typical lakland B string! Weighs in at approx 9.9lbs. There is one main mark/ding in the top of the body which I've tried to show, along with some light surface scratches front and back that are very hard to photo. Trial is welcomed, collection preferred but would consider a meet up or postage at buyers risk/cost. Any other questions or more pictures just ask. Thanks.

  33. SOLD For sale: Fender Player series Mexican made 4 string right handed 2021 Precision bass in lovely Polar White / maple neck / tort plate colour combo. Collection / possible North West meet welcome. Otherwise can post to UK address at buyer’s expense of £23.70. That is for Parcelforce Express 24, trackable fully insured delivery. A real nice relatively light weight of 3.7Kg / 8.2lbs, measured several times with digital luggage scales. Very comfy, light & well balanced on strap or lap. For those who like neck measurements, the neck has a front to back thickness of 0.800” at the 1st fret, and 0.911” at the 12th fret, measured with digital calipers. So fairly slim and fast playing on the lovely satin urethane finished neck back (gloss maple fingerboard). I actually really like this bass so it’s a semi reluctant sale, but as nice as this is, I’m not really a white bass guy, so am keeping my black Player P instead. Everything is stock apart from the tort plate, which I think is non Fender. It is very nice though. I don’t have the stock plate anymore. Has 45-105 RS66LDN Roto nickel round strings with lots of life left in them. Truss rod adjustment at headstock, rod turns as it should, set up with a nice medium/low action. 2021 model with Fender 75th anniversary logo on back of headstock which is a nice touch. As it’s fairly new, it’s in generally mint condition without even the usual scratches on the back. Unfortunately there is a paint chip where I very briefly tried a Jazz neck on it. I always thought P & J necks were interchangeable, but as careful as I was, a bit of white paint flew out as I tried to get the J neck into the pocket. I should know to leave these things to the experts! So, the area with no paint is about 1cm x 0.5cm, but the total area of the imperfection is about 2cm long. This is fortunately on the underside of the neck pocket, so it obviously can’t be seen whilst playing. Perhaps this will suit someone who is paranoid about owning a mint bass, knowing there is already a ding on it anyway. Who knows, the buyer could even add one of their own, run it through a hedge or do their own custom roadwear! So, it’s mint other than that one issue. Please note I want to sell this, and am not interested in trades, unless you have an American Special Precision that you want to do a deal with. PM me with any interest please, thanks

  34. 1983 Squier JV PB-57 Precision for sale due to me deciding this is the time to thin the herd down. I believe it's all original, except for the black scratchplate that's currently on it but i will also supply the original single ply white one. You can see the raised A string pole pieces in the pics. This one weighs in a mere 8lb 2oz on the digital bathroom scales. In great condition for a nearly 40 year old bass, a couple of tiny body blemishes, the neck is completely unblemished with frets in excellent nick. Truss rod works fine both ways. Pots are still smooth. No tarnishing on the chrome. Moreover, it plays like a dream - a proper old school precision with a neck that is super playable. It will come with a Fender hardcase as shown in pics. Would rather do collection on this, but happy to drop off do a halfway meet within 1.5 hours or so of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I've priced it based on recent sales but I'm open to sensible offers. Not looking for trades at this point.

  41. Can't do the balance pot and fret end dressing until I get a reply from Thomann, but a basic set up should be OK. A 1/4 turn more relief in the neck and it's all good there. All the saddles needed moving back for intonation, but plenty of adjustment still available either way for different strings. A good low action (for me) of about 2mm at the 12th fret is easily achievable, without any fret buzz. The pickup height is going to need a bit more work as the P pickup is as high as it will go with the foam provided (I had much the same issue with my shorty 'Ray) and I like to have some adjustment either way. It'll need more shielding as there is more buzz than I'm comfortable with (single coil in the bridge taken into account) but this was also case with my JMJ. The headstock finishing issue I mentioned above turned out to be left over compound and was easily removed with my thumbnail. However, in the daylight there is some sort of dye bleed on the neck binding, which indicates that the fretboard has been darkened to make the laurel look more like rosewood, which it does. Tonally it sits rather nicely between the JMJ and 'Ray, making neither redundant, whilst still adding an extra flavour (the balance pot should enhance this feature more I think). It plays very nicely indeed and certainly doesn't feel like £205's worth of metal, wood and plastic.

  46. How it started vs. how it's going, part II... Bridge fitted and some old strings thrown on just to get it working. Frets polished, fingerboard cleaned but could do with a light oiling. Still needs a proper setup, and a good body polish. I like it already. To my utter astonishment and delight, it is nearly 2lbs lighter than my 2-Tone J. Depending on how well it fits tonally, I think this might be my new ska bass. I know gold hardware is a bit marmite, but I think this looks the absolute feckin business. Oh, and I've found out why these gold tuners were in the spares box... one of them is fecked something inside stripped out as I was tuning it. Into the bin it goes, and off to ebay I go...
