Bacchus WLD4X-ASH-AC Blue/oil. Woodline model, made in Japan. I recently took this in from a trade and whilst it is lovely, I'm a tart and the colour isn't doing it for me. Weight 9.2lbs. Controls are Volume, Balance, Treble, Bass. BassDirect advert here: https://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Bacchus_WL4DX_Blue.html Very good condition with a few marks to the top of the headstock and some minor marks to the body (the finish hides them well). Have tried to capture in photos. No gigbag. Don't have the authenticity certificate (pictured in the BD advert) but will try getting it off the original owner. Prefer a straight sale but interested in trades for a JMJ Mustang or Flea jazz. Prefer collection Orpington BR6 or can meet up to an hour away. Failing that can look at postage to mainland UK at buyer's risk/cost. Youtube vid/demo courtesy of Danny Stewart here:8 points

Speaking of non PJ BB's, I recently got this beauty which needs no introduction. It is from 1978, which is great as the world's most expensive bass ever sold at auction (same model and colour but obviously LH) is from the same year: https://www.the-paulmccartney-project.com/2021/12/paul-mccartneys-yamaha-bb-1200-bass-auctioned/ The bass is in pretty good shape and sounds killer. I really like the reverse P and neck-thru combo, same as on my Spectors (but they are PJs, expect for the NS-1 and the Euro 77). Great bass!8 points

Switch cleaner is okay, WD40 I found is better, but betterer still is 3in1 oil in a spray can with a straw (like WD40). Just a little, wind the pot back and forth a few times to get rid of the corrosion and coat the contacts and should be good for 6 months. My 2 year old son opens my guitar cases in my music room and winds the volume and tone controls a few times once or twice a week for me to prevent this very thing as I don’t play them much anymore. He gives the strings a strum with a pick too then closes them up and puts the pick back in its pot. All with great care. Maybe you need one of them to maintain the basses you don’t play?6 points

They’re a consumable part so I’d replace them (unless it’s a vintage Fender, when of course breaking the original solder joint somehow releases the mojo out there by a poorly paid factory worker in the early 60s).6 points

This old girl has just had a set up, fret dress and polish, hand carved bone nut and a new Jack and pot clean. I can’t wait to get her back. I keep looking at some of the budget basses that look really good for the money, Harley Bentons etc, but I decided to spend the money on getting my first bass match fit. I’ve not gigged her regularly since 2013. I’ve got her back in time for the weekend and a gig in a tight spot where a lyte bass will be welcome.4 points

In most cases the xmax isn't available. The mechanical power limit of drivers averages around half the thermal limit. Some are higher, some are less. Some even have a mechanical capacity equal to or greater than the thermal. But those are high cost premium drivers that are seldom seen in electric bass cabs. Here again don't take my word for it, verify it yourself with speaker modeling software. As a for instance, the Eminence Deltalite II 2510 is the most popular neo ten inch platform. The thermal rating is 250w. The mechanical limit in the critical 80-100Hz region is 100w. And the 2510 is better than most. The most popular ceramic ten platform is the Eminence Beta 10. The thermal limit is 250w. The mechanical limit is 60w.4 points

I love this wonderful thing. It may be overkill but also I’m more than happy to keep it. Just considering as I’ve seen something I like (Barefaced of course) and I will gladly gladly withdraw this if that one sells. 29kg, dead east to move around and with wheels etc. no damage except for the lightest peeling on the tolex back, common of these cabs. Not significant really.3 points

Meat Raffle. Sell lots of tickets for pub gigs, but we always get a load of punters who seem to be very irate on the night and don't appreciate the music. It was the same with my previous band 'topless gogo girls'3 points

Just been announced. Meant to be an exact replica of the original Mutron. Set to be around £100 but no word about release date yet which may be some time. I think there are some other clones in the pipeline possibly ahead of this but I know some suggested that Behringer should do this to follow up on their Mutron Octave Divider they released last year. https://synthanatomy.com/2023/03/behringer-b-tron-iii-a-clone-of-the-vintage-mu-tron-iii-envelope-filter.html2 points

***Sold*** Fender Player Precision Bass, bought new in April 2022 and has barely been touched since. I bought it on a whim, and it has been stored in my music room since it arrived Condition is perfect/as-new with the original strings and no sign of wear or tear on the body, neck, or frets. The scratch plate still has the plastic protective covering on it. The bass has been fitted with Dunlop strap locks, I can include the original non-locking Fender strap buttons if required. I can also include a Fender gig bag if required I would prefer the buyer to collect or to meet them at a mutually agreed location, but if necessary, I can send it via courier. An opportunity to buy an as-new bass for only £600.00 £5502 points

* Background: I bought this on the forum earlier this year but it turned out to be way too heavy for my glass back at 10.18 pounds, despite looking fabulous and playing/sounding beautifully with TI flats on. I sold it on eBay but then had to refund the buyer as the neck went bowed with higher tension roundwound strings than the TI flats. He took the bass to a luthier who added a washer to rectify the recessed truss rod nut but declared that the truss rod is broken and needs replacing. Subsequently, the BCer who sold this to me said that his luthier had checked the bass before selling and given it a clean bill of health. I believe the BCer sold the bass to me in good faith and have no reason to doubt his version of events. Having taken the bass back I have since tested the truss rod with higher tension flats (Dunlop 45-105) and, while the neck is certainly quick to bow after swapping from TI flats, the truss rod nut does appear to tighten the neck to compensate, so that medium/low action is possible: I cannot see that this would be possible if the truss rod was completely broken. Its now back to wearing TI flats again, with the truss rod adjusted for the lower tension, and plays really nicely - as before. * So .... I am selling as is, on the assumption the neck is viable and does not need replacing (which may well be correct based on one of two luthiers and my testing). If a potential buyer is a fan of a Jazz-with-TI-flats combination I am very confident they will like this bass. However, (1) I have further reduced the price given the disputed history and (2) I would like the buyer to be fully satisfied with what they have, so will send on a trial basis with payment only in the event the buyer is happy. As before it comes in very 1990s fugly but protective hard case. Collection SW London, south of Hammersmith Bridge, or deliver within UK at cost (which I will cover until the buyer confirms he/she is happy and then add to the total price). If the buyer is unhappy and returns the bass, I will cover both courier costs and punch myself in the face. Can't say fairer than that! Edit: obviously this offer applies only to UK-based BCers with a decent amount of positive feedback! Also, the bass will come with a padded, neoprene 3.5" wide strap which I bought to help distribute the weight on my shoulder better.2 points

Harley Benton JB-62CC BK for sale only. Bought this recently but need to slim down the flock so as I usually do after buying a Jazz type bass, this is now for sale only. This is in exc condition, just a small nick on the end of the headstock. I have replaced the bridge and tuners which cost £60 and are an improvement on the original parts. The neck is caramelized Canadian hard rock maple and the body is poplar, DAddario EXL165 .045 - .105 strings and the rest is usual Jazz bass. The bass weighs 4.4 kg or 9.7 lb`s which is usual for HB Jazz basses and lighter than the ones with the maple necks which are usually around 5 kg. The bass sounds great and not just for the price. Collection or local meet up.2 points

Fender CIJ 1962 reissue precision bass (PB62-60) from 2007. Selling as I have now moved to 5 strings and so this does not get the attention it deserves. I have owned this from new when purchased in 2007 and it does have some wear and tear from being gigged through the years but still sounds great. I have tried to capture any dings but let me know if any other pictures or info would help. I haven't got the weight to hand but let me know if needed and I shall try and get an accurate measurement. It originally came with a white scratchplate which I replaced with the tortoiseshell seen here shortly after purchase (from this very site I believe!). I'm not convinced I still have the original white one but it may turn up. I'm based in Denbighshire but can arrange delivery across North Wales. I'm also regularly gigging around the North West, particularly Manchester. Not overly keen on arranging a courier in the first instance as I don't have a hard case. Any questions then please let me know!2 points

Cheers! Further beefed it up with a original Compact in place of the Midget. The 2 15s carry some serious heft. Fits in well with my bands addiction to valves.2 points

As I put the power board together I was struck by just how good HB stuff really is. Not just cheap, but well thought out, well made, solid gear. The restraint I've shown not to buy a new HB bass for nearly 3 months has been, I think, quite commendable.2 points

Not much difference between these two, other than colour and scratchplate type the main difference is that the black bass has a Himass bridge and the white one doesn't. I've added a thumb block to the white one and if I enjoy it will do the same to the black. They're just bog standard Player basses and I love them. Simple, effective and they play and sound great. The black one is for standard tuning and the white one for full D / weird tunings (one of the guys in the band keeps talking about Soundgarden covers and I'm hoping the bass can cope with the demented tunings required).2 points

First rehearsal with the band today since then. I do believe this is going to be my new regular bass for gigging. Of my Gibson flavoured basses I prefer the tone of this to both my Gibson LP Jnr DC and my Epi T-Bird Classic Pro; it is certainly easier to play than the latter. Despite my love of all things Precision, this sits with the band mix in a different way and just sounds perfect for the stuff we play. Both pickups combine to give a tone that is rather special. One of the tuners is a bit stiff but I can live with that. The bridge is not very adjustable but good enough and certainly more comfy on my palm than the 3 pointer. Very happy chappy2 points

Latest: Apparently built by a fella called Graham Noden who worked at Andy's in Denmark Street from 1972 - 1984, building custom instruments from high end parts for wealthy clients, prepared to pay for custom high end guitars. Graham is still building guitars from premises in West Drayton/ Uxbridge. https://nodenguitars.co.uk/2 points

It ended up wrapped in blankets! Bridge is way too high. Intonation isn't far off (until I lower the action!) Pickups both work, but the G string is relatively stronger than the others as the pickup heights need attention. Truss rod needs tightening, but I've tuned it to D standard to take the strain off the neck a bit. It's in really good nick- still had its CE sticker and truss rod cover protective film still in situ. The construction (bolt-on) is weird. Because of the matte finish, the joints are faintly visible. It looks like the thinner body section is a single piece slab (really?), and the thicker body section is made by one 5mm laminate on top and another on the back. Neck dives like Jacques Cousteau. I'll move the strap button to the neck-plate, that'll help. More pics later.2 points

Ultimately it's a bolt on 4 string bass with a single pickup and 2 knobs, made in Germany by a smaller company. As a concept it is not any different to a Precision. And a current Fender American Professional II P bass is about £1900. As it happens I think the current price for that P bass is mad, but it seems to be the way of the world, but I also know which one I'd rather spend the money on.2 points

Me too. I'm personally a bit baffled that people spend £100+ on leather ones when these are a fraction of the price and miles more comfortable / practical (for me at least)2 points

Indeed, cable loss is not an issue where wireless systems are employed. So if that is your only reason for active (and is primarily mine) then it is not an argument.2 points

And which also makes them completely useless for fitting to any instrument not made of solid wood. I brought this point up with Schaller, but they didn't see it as a problem. Of the six guitars and basses that I currently use these new versions would be unsuitable for 3 of them.2 points

And I put this excellent lightweight bridge on my Rebellion Jazz Bass, it's a great plus compared to an original MusicMan or a simple budget one like yours. https://www.ampshopbassexchange.com/product/albridge-parts-m20b-music-man-style-4-string-quick-release-bridge-for-jazz-bass-or-precision-electric-bass-guitars/ The new version is not a quick release model. It's this:2 points

Sometime the tracks are so damaged the only solution is to replace the pots, which is not difficult if you are careful and methodical. ( You'll need a soldering iron too)!2 points

Typically Yamaha run like a car manufacturer, 6-8 years of a model and the colour changes happen towards the end. you’re probably right. now….if they do the “classic BB” like the 414 (basically a 1600 reissue) with the multi lam neck 424/1024/2024 with the fancy sandwich body and 6 bolt neck 434/p34 we’re getting close to perfection @Machines and I spoke earlier about this.2 points

This is what Gibson EB0 basses looked like before they switched over to the SG style in 1961. The shape was from the LesPaul Jr guitars that were made after 1958. This looks like an updated take on a classic design to me.2 points

Dunlop all the way for me as well. The Schallers had a tendency to flip upside down on the strap, and although they still seemed to stay firmly attached I never quite trusted them. The locking mechanism was also a bit more fiddly. I prefer the Dunlop buttons that also double as regular strap buttons, since I don't use strap locks at home (usually), but the ones that sit flush with the instrument are definitely pretty appealing in terms of looks. Before I started using "real" strap locks I used those Dunlop plastic ones, and they worked really well. Really secure, cheap and easy to use.2 points

I prefer a preamp you plug into , in fact I use one , even if I might pick up and play an “active” bass. Mine has some tubes so it’s not going to work inside a bass. I prefer passive basses and have no problem with the term. And I’m one that enjoys short scale , passive , set neck , single humbucker in the sweet spot , two knob basses. This one here is probably my favourite bass to play. So I was quite happy to see Sandberg release this.2 points

My bass turned up yesterday - thanks dad! He shipped it to me from the UK for Christmas. It looks like I put a 3-band 9v preamp in there. It works and sounds pretty good but I need to figure out how to relocate the jack socket and probably put some foam around the battery. The bass could use a good setup, the action is pretty high and I’d like to replace the bridge eventually but it works for now. Photo with an ampeg ba110 that I managed to pick up for $20 not working. Looks like somebody had pulled out the headphone jack while the amp was on and made it go bang. Just sanded the contacts a touch and works perfectly.2 points
