  1. So I've recently managed to condense my bass collection down to four basses, one of which I've had for over 30 years and the others that have been relatively recent acquisitions. While having a quick play with them yesterday I had a familiar warm fuzzy feeling that I usually get when I'm with old mates and have had a few beers. It was a feeling of genuine affection for them and one that I've never really had before with all the (many many) basses I've owned previously. Should I be worried? Is this the end of the road for me in terms of buying and selling? I may need to phone my doctor on Monday for an appointment and for all your sakes (and for the sake of the economy) I really hope it's not contagious. I'm thinking of changing our house name to Dunbuyin. Please think of me in your prayers tonight.

  2. We resumed our gig last night following a 4 week lay off. This has been down to band illness, followed by a cancellation due to bad weather. Anyway, last night was a welcome return to Cheltenham Town Hall, a handsome building in the centre of town. We'd only found out a few days prior that it was Cheltenham Gold Cup day, so the town was rammed with race goers which made for an interesting walk round when we arrived a bit early. The hall has a rather cavernous sound going on, but had a lengthy soundcheck (see pic) and were happy with it. The gig went well, although it's surprising how 4 weeks off can affect you - had a bit of back ache and slightly sore fingers, probably my age! We did the gig as a one off, as another gig originally planned en route got cancelled. This meant driving down from East Yorkshire and then back afterwards, around 400 miles in total. Of course, there were massive diversions on the M42 which meant driving back through Birmingham and suburbs to find the A38 back up to the M1. No wonder I'm a bit knackered today, although glad of a day off to recover. Tomorrow I'm doing my favourite gig in Scarborough with my acoustic duo, should be a much easier do!

  3. Outstanding beautiful very special LeFay Herr Schwarz Headless for sale. Here in probably the noblest form: so Headless with Crazy Cherry Cap. Even more, I was allowed to choose the among many pieces, it was the absolutely most beautiful piece. So even and with a 3D depth ... The cap is milled three-dimensionally from the solid, not bent or something. Very intricate! Premium stainless steel fretting (meaning that the fret bars can't go all the way to the edge and stick out Gechambered and extra light 3540g !!!! heavy. Turbo slots. Ebony fingerboard with 24 frets. Selected beautifully grained ash body. Maple neck, built up with 5-strings. Topdots: mother of Pearl, sidedots 3mm luminlay, so self-luminous. 4 single coil PU's, arranged like 2 humbuckers. Extra special electronics with parametric mids (The controls are: top row: Vol - Blend - passive treble control, also in active mode - 1st switch neck-PU single or humbucker - 2nd switch active/passive, 2nd row: bass, treble, mid, midband) Feel: the best I've ever had, subjectively better for me than the Fodera I had before. Sound: wonderful, anything is possible with it! Build team: the best, most creative and nicest team ever. With the greatest vertical range of manufacture on the entire bass market (they not only make their own PU's but also pot knobs, bridges and headless tuners themselves. Built in 2020, have played the bass exactly 1x out of the house for a recording in the Corona era, see video link (the Bass came 1 day before shot ;-)): With such an instrument probably not much more goes. The first 9 photos I took with my phone, the last 3 photos I got from LeFay and they were on their homepage. Personal pickup with test and shipping possible. For exact costs wherever please ask or visit DHL Homepage. Private sale: no return and warranty.

  4. It was awesome! My band did its first ever live TV appearance on The Late Late Show in Ireland (not to be confused with J Corden's paltry offering) for St Patrick's Day. Viewing figures estimated at 1 million plus! I will probably create a seperate topic about the whole experience in general but it was simply amazing. Vid below for anyone interested:

  5. Fender Standard Jazz 2012 8lbs 12oz It took me a long time to find this model of Fender jazz in this condition and a nice weight. I’ve really enjoyed playing it but I’m selling as I’ve just replaced this with a 24-fret active 5-string, which is more my thing. Very, good condition, with low fret wear. There’s just some light surface marks on the back/bottom edge (see pics) that you have to hold it in the right light to see. I’ve replaced the pickguard with a mint green one from a Fender Pro as the original cream one has a slight circle where a sticker was left on it and the sun has slightly aged everywhere except where the sticker was. You can see it in the day light, but I can’t see it now in the evening light. I’ll include both as I won’t need it. Everything works as it should including clean-sounding pots (no scratchiness). The truss rod works without any issues too and the bass is set with an easy to play/low action. It comes with the original Hardcase, which has sadly seen better days. SPEC BODY: Alder NECK: Maple FRETBOARD: Maple FRETS: 20 Narrow tall PICKUPS: 60s Custom Shop BRIDGE: Fender Hi-Mass CONTROLS: Volume, volume, tone STRING THROUGH BODY OPTION: ☑️ HARDCASE: Fender Hardcase WEIGHT: 8lbs 12oz COLLECTION from near Lincoln. 6. For sale only (no trades) Fender Player Precision in Tidepool Blue £550. Bought recently as backup but incoming premium P means it has to make way! Will miss the amazing colour, being a huge fan of blue basses (and the Mediterranean ;)). Looks fab with the maple fingerboard. Condition: Near mint. Has only left the house once for a worship set, probably less than 2 hours total playtime. Still has film protector on neckplate and pickguard. I can't find any marks/scratches/dings or other synoyms. Measurements: Nut: 1.625" (41.3 mm) Neck shape: modern "C" Radius: 9.5" (241 mm) Frets: 20 Weight: 3.7kg Delivery: these don"t come with a bag, but I have the double-box that Andertons sent it in. UK postage only though for that reason. I use Parcelforce as their depot is nearby, and can get a quote for any interested buyers (est. £15-20 for next day service). Collection: about 20 mins from M25 J5 near Tonbridge, Kent. The kettle is not always on - that would be both a terrible waste of energy and a fire hazard - but very happy to brew up on artival... 7. I also thought Mr Holroyd to be a god of bass. (He also played an Alembic as I recall - rare to see those back in the day). I couldn't afford the Gibson - never mind the Alembic - so I got Jack Golder of Shergold to make me this one. I did have the Holroyd Hair though!

  8. Just listening to Paul Gambaccini doing Pick of The Pops from 1982. Great years for the bass guitar, very prominent in the mix and great bass lines too.

  10. Got this in a case at the back of a cupboard somewhere - when I bought it my prog originals band had a few songs that would've benefited from fretless interludes on some parts. Never even made it to a rehearsal before the live band fell apart - fortunately for my back... It's a 1985 Gordy Blueshift, & as far as I can make out it's a one - off, originally built for Pete Glennon, who seems to have been a player active in the Manchester area in the 70s & 80s.

  15. First date for In Isolation and Gothzilla mini-tour, playing upstairs at The Olde Salutation Inn in Nottingham: With X-Superstar and Feather Trade also on the bill for this gig it was a bit cramped on stage and I had to do a bit of a rewire of my "bass rig" in order for Feather Trade's bass player to also use it, but the gig went well and we seemed to have the biggest audience of the night. Just getting ready to go to Heckmondwicke for tonight's gig.

  16. Not a special bass, but special to me as my first 'proper' bass with which I started getting decent gigs. A Hohner 'The Jack' headless, supposedly active but that wasn't working. I paid about £200 for it in the late 90s and sold it, many years later during a sabbatical from playing, for around £300.

  17. I have this one, and played it in duo gigs - not a note of prog in sight 😃 . Here, my partner in crime is helping me cope with the weight. It was very much a show thing as for what we did, there was no real need to swap instruments mid-song. I still have it. As far as I know, twin necked guitars were designed with the main instrument (the one most often played) on the bottom. In the duo, I usually played guitar but occasionally strayed into bass territory and it was fairly comfortable to play, albeit at the 80's fashion 'mid-chest' position. In later years I had the guitar side fitted with a Roland GK3 pick up feeding either a VG8 guitar processor or a GR33 guitar synth. I haven't seen this photo for a few years and I can see I'm playing through a Marshall JMP1 valve pre-amp (in the rack behind me) into a guitar amp. My Strat is ready for when my back gives in and I have to shed the Spirit 😃.

  19. Hello All. I bought this combo for a project that hasn’t been forthcoming and as I don’t really play live it is total overkill for me. I can’t say enough good things about the tone on tap here, it’s very pure and the combo is extremely powerful as all its 350 watts are delivered into the cabinet. Please note that this particular unit is not designed to be used in combination with another cab, it’s shockingly loud and was designed for stand alone use. The 500/800 watt versions can be used as a stack. I have only used this sparingly at home and the unit is absolutely mint. I believe I haven’t ever turned the volume up to 1, and the gain stays around 11 o’clock ish. This would definitely suit someone who wants a powerful featherweight combo (less than 20lbs) with a really transparent sound. I only ever play it flat and it does the job for me. Ideally I am looking for a sale but I would definitely consider a trade for something of lower value as I only need a practice combo. The GR is totally wasted on me and if I keep it it will never do what it’s designed to do, which is fill rooms with bass loveliness. Unfortunately I cannot ship this as I no longer have the box, but anyone local to me in the North West of England is welcome to come and try the amp. I believe this model is £950 at Bass Direct. I can take more photos if required, it does come with a nice padded cover. Hit me up with any trades amp wise please. Cheers.

  20. In my quest for the ultimate pedal board power system I've tried so many solutions. The best and most affordable was the rechargeable power pack. But I just couldn't shake the nagging fear that it would run flat mid performance. I should add that it never did. Ever. But I'm not a rational being and I hate distraction while I'm playing . So enter my latest (last?) PSU. The power bar replaces the top bar in your HB board. In fact you take the whole thing apart and replace the sides as well. Unless you buy it as a 'power board' which is a board with the power bar already built in. They come in different widths to suit your needs. Power via a kettle lead, have pretty green lights, a multitude of options in including USB outs on the front. Mine (the 60) has 13 fully isolated silent outputs. Even I couldn't use them all! There is a 3000ma 9v for hungry multi effects, a 24v link, multiple 500ma, 300ma and 250ma 9v, and four 500ma sockets switchable for 12, 18 or 9v. The unit comes packaged with all the gubbins you could ever want. Velcro, power cables of various lengths, cables to reverse polarity, cables to link a 9v battery, cables for old pedals with mini jack inputs. There's even a bag of cable tidy clips. Simple, elegant, efficient and effective.

  21. I went out last night for a rehearsal with a new band after a bit of a break from playing. Things in the last year or so really knocked my confidence on top of covid and a whole host of woes. So, it felt a bit like a rather tall horse to try to get back on. I did as much homework as I could and was even a bit nervy walking in for the first time. It went really well and the whole band (two new members added on the same day) gelled really well, like-minded had a great vibe in the room and I'm playing stuff that I've never really covered before. It felt rather liberating! I took both of my MIJ Fenders with me and the Berg' stack. Sounded absolutely brilliant - and the first time I'll be gigging on just 4 strings for .. I dunno! 25 years?? It felt good.

  26. What The Fůćk Have I Bought Bass Day So Bloody Gumtree,again!.. Cheap 'n Local-ish and dodgy add pics... No Name? Hour later i'm picking it up on the bike with a Rucksack Gig Bag... Looks like some one... or some thing, has set about the headstock! unless someone knows otherwise? As I've been on Ibby SR's and Jazz Necks... this thing feels huge! so much so i'm wondering if it was a 5 modded to a 4... 43 at the nut, 44 at the fretboard end and something like 68 at the back of the pocket, and wearing big thick black flat or tapes - black silks... could it be those Mahoosive Roto Tru Bass? Neck looks like it is a fretless conversion having had the frets removed as the dots are between the lines. Very flat fretboard. Body was covered in stickers so White Spirit and GT85... only distinguishing mark is the 'Tonic' logo between the pickups, Screen Printed or Decal, not a sticker. Had some emery cloth in the neck pocket as a shim removed this and tidied the over paint at the edge of the pocket, hoping one will cancel the other.... Youngest has been playing a bit of Guitar (as well as his fretless bass) and was asking about a fretless guitar, so we were talking about slide. As the action is a little high, with the neck width and monster strings, think this is gonna be a Lap Slide Bass, with a Behringer BDI for some drive and a Wah-Wah... Fun afternoon project for £20! Need some push on knobs...

  32. Choosing 'the one' means a decision regarding two basses. Either 1953 Precision (#0189) or the 1966 slab Precision. It's a difficult choice. Both sounded huge and both were uncomfortable to play for a long period (the edge would dig into my forearm when I was playing). On balance, I guess it would be the 1953 bass. The 66 is very rare but the 1953 has the history and I have a good few Precisions in the post-1957 form. The only picture I have of it, hanging next to my 1966 Jazz (another one that would worth a bit now!!).

  38. I'm thinking about trading my ACG Krell E-Type. It's a seriously incredible instrument (as are all ACGs) but I have a couple of things I play more often so I thought I'd offer this one up for something different. Specs: - Headless 31.5" scale - so easy to play! - Chambered white limba body with swamp ash facings and dark contrast layers (likely dyed sycamore) - Beautiful three-piece ash neck (standard carve NOT asymmetrical) - Incredible aqua stained fingerboard - ACG humbuckers - ACG/East EQ01 filter preamp - Neutrik locking jack - Dunlop strap locks - High quality Mono soft case. I'll consider pretty much anything in trade - just ask. Fretless is good. Warwick. A different spec ACG. Rickenbacker. Something vintage. Sadowsky. Headed/headless. 4/5/6 strings. etc. etc. If you don't have anything to trade and a straight sale is preferred, just send me a message, I'm also open to offers. Collection/meet up is ideal but shipping is very doable too.

  39. I never took the C3 anywhere until I sold it. Those things are nuts! I bought a smaller Hammond for gigs, a 1967 M102 that was split for transport but even that became too much. I still play air Hammond sometimes, my back doesn’t mind that so much 👍

  42. Recent years, painful sadly, has forced me to part with some really beautiful basses. Ones that as a kid I’d never thought I’d ever be able to own. It still feels odd seeing them in the hands of other players as they were rather identifiable! What I have left with is a few instruments that I just can’t bear to part with. No, I didn’t want to sell the other but I made my peace begrudgingly. I took one of my keepers out to a rehearsal for a new band last night. It just brought a huge amount of warmth and satisfaction. So glad I own it, if that makes sense? GAS is still obsessional with me and, well, my job doesn’t help - you should see what is sat in my studio right now! Currently a one-off premium bass. I’m ok knowing that what I have now is the result of a long journey! hmmmm, I still want a really nice fretless though… and a musicman style bass.. and.. oh god… 🤣😂

  43. This Trace rig has been up a while and would suit every need, rehearsal room up to festival stage backline. Saves on a compression pedal too! What an amazing looking bass! Absolutely smitten! ANd lastly I found a pedal for some drive flavour, even has a tuner! I'd be well happy with this setup!

  44. The two amps sounds great both!! some small details are different aguilar are more warm and comfortable but the sisma and cabs are like a sword in the mix.. more detailed at higher volume.. and linear.. the db750 with Jad&Freer cabs are a perfect match too. I think I will be happy for the future with this amps to match.. …but The sisma head are a little monster… more present and punchy than the db750. and it does not sounds like a class D amp
