So due to my back getting worse I decided that lighter short scale basses might be the way forwards so when I saw one of these available thought I’d go for it, having played one briefly before and rather liking it. I was wary of resenting it due to having to give up my beloved Precisions however I’ve just put in about an hour on it and I really like it. I’m even getting on with the D’Addario Chromes it’s wearing, they seem to really suit it (could never really get on with flats on my Precisions). It’s not that much lighter than my lightest Precision but it really feels like it is, maybe it’s the overall balance or maybe the playing position is just better for me. I think I’ve made a good decision here.17 points

Picked this up yesterday for £80, I'm a big ibanez guitar fan but I didn't have an ibanez bass, needed a damn good clean but has come up lovely17 points

For years I’d go pokin ‘ round the interweb looking for a Flying Samurai , oh you could usually find them for sale in Tokyo , but I didn’t want to brave that. I’d see the occasional one in the US , sometimes one might surface in the UK or Australia. But I was reluctant do deal with international shipping , duties and taxes. And one day I noticed one pop up in Toronto , and I had some cash available in the musical emergency sock … and I got it. It’s much like a Jazz , on steroids. Not too heavy , sits nice on a strap, real good player. This is the long scale reissue , and although I generally play short scales now I make an exception for this darling. We have a little instrumental project coming up , I’ve decided this will be the one . My backup will be another classic Japanese surf bass , my UniVox HiFlier. I’m going retro cool. Been putting some time in on this , and I like it.11 points

Long narrative. Me , Jenny and Dave left for Malone WI to do a 1-4 acoustic set at The Ziegler Winery. It was an hour commute one way, however it was a bright sunny fun drive in the country. The Ziegler Winery is relatively new and they book allot of live music. We're taking the full Maple Road band up there this summer to play their outside stage. The place was all class. Outstanding staff, cool people I spoke with one of the managers. Very attractive and you could tell she understands the whole being in band thing. Upscale well heeled generous patrons. Plenty of space for the band and easy load in. There was a couple from Milwaukee that came to our Maple Road show Saturday night at Rockfield Live that drove all the way up to the Winery to see the acoustic stuff. I thought I played better than I did the night before. Good gig. Blue10 points

My mate Barry Morris photographs most of the bands at the Earl Haig, and he's become incredibly good at it. These are some of his flattering shots from last Sunday.7 points

So with my back continuing to be an issue a certain amount of common sense has had to be applied. With guitar I was using my Tele Deluxe at 8.5lbs, have made the switch to Epiphone SGs at 7lbs. And yesterday I had a practice and my back was sore after playing my Precision (my lightest one at 8.2lbs) so I`ve ordered a Fender JMJ Mustang Bass (will of course do a NBD topic when it arrives). Having read up on them it seems they average around 7-ish lbs, but even due to the size it will be easier to play and easier to cart about in a guitar gig-bag (research done there too). In some ways I`m sad as it means I`m not using the instruments I prefer to play (aside from at home of course), but on the other hand I`m pleased that I`ve come to this acceptance. Onwards & upwards, and at least there are lighter options available nowadays. And this of course means I now have an absolute shed-load of gear to move on.6 points

The economics of shipping used cheap basses without a case points squarely at doing it differently next time. Taking the neck off and packing a much smaller box makes it cheaper shipping and very much harder to do any damage.5 points

If you over-analyse.. you'd never buy anything, go anywhere, do anything... Life's too short for all that, if it's a good song and fits in your set, show, whatever.. play it..5 points

There would be no point in paying Parcelforce for extra insurance. They'll take your money, but musical instruments are explicitly excluded in their Ts & Cs.5 points

A superb example of Fender Japan at its best, this 1987 Fender Jazz Bass Special is In amazing condition, especially for a 35 year old bass, very little wear. This is the passive version of the corvette with the MEC pickups and passive tone control, made in Germany. Original listing with more pictures is here: https://reverb.com/uk/item/62106772-warwick-corvette-2011-bubinga-made-in-germany It is in okay overall condition with some bucklerash on the back of the top horn. Bought for £765 from BassBros in October as I wanted to see if I got on with Warwick but it doesn't suit me so moving it on. Any questions drop me a message, willing to deliver within reason for diesel money. Cash is king but I am looking for a Darkglass Compressor/Harmonic Booster so would be willing to trade with cash my way.4 points

Got a 1H Starstream today - for £199 it was a no brainer. It arrived and was set up really well. I oiled the fretboard and gave it a polish and will put new strings on it , but it's a perfect bass for noodling on the couch given its weight. I liked it so much I ordered a 2S and was considering a third to set up as a piccolo or as an upgrade project.4 points

Wonderfully portable 310 - bit of a modern classic I think! The form factor here is almost perfect in that it's not a small cab but it's a very comfortable shape and lift. I do appreciate this is subject to the length of your arms etc! I'm moving a few things at the moment and I think this is probably my fav cab, we will see what moves first. 750 at 5.3 ohms, works great stand alone, clearly you would need to be careful if pairing with another cab to ensure you didn't drop the load too low for your amp. Technical science people can wade in on the detail here but in essence if you add an 8 ohm cab then your load is around 3.2 ohms - not so cool if your amp runs into 4 as many do. Comes with the official epi cover which is in great condition. Plenty of power and punch. Any questions let me know! x4 points

It's a bit slow in work, so here is my board. I must have had that ST-200 tuner for close to 20 years or something silly now. Debating replacing at least the ODB-3 and CE-2B with my HX Stomp.4 points

I'm sure everyone's sick of the sight of my resurrected Q4, but here it is anyway I know nothing about the various Spector preamp types, does anyone know what the standard fitment for the Q4s was? It's V/V/Bass/Treb and seems to work really well; I've toyed with the idea of various mods (maybe V/Bal rather than V/V**) and the addition of a passive tone might be interesting too, but it sounds so good stock I end up thinking "why bother?". I might well try a pickup swap at some point though, in particular I'd really like a P-configuration at the neck (e.g. EMG 35P4) and perhaps a tapped hb at the neck (e.g. EMG TW). In no real hurry though, and see previous statement re: "why bother?" (EDIT: ** I'm going to have to do something even if it's just renewing an existing pot, as the neck volume appears to be the wrong taper or something... absolutely everything happens in the last few degrees of turn)4 points

Works for me too. Well, in my head. I sometimes stop or go off beat too. Usually so that I can catch up with myself. But I always remember to smile and repeat it so it doesn't look like a mistake. 😃4 points

That's a personal choice, or at least one for the band. I have yet to come across a song in a proposed set list that I find personally objectionable enough to refuse to play. Our singer changes a couple of words in one song to remove innuendo that he objects to, which is fine by me as it doesn't change the song and most in the audience wouldn't notice. I guess you have to take into account the context. In a pub full of stereotypes, you can get away with a lot more than, say, a wedding. If it's been played on the radio, the likelihood is it'll be fine for most venues. Common sense should prevail. We played a wake once (in our defence, we didn't know it was a wake at the time as it was a last minute agent booking) and ended the first half with 'Knocking on Heaven's Door'. 😃4 points

I bought this guitar new a couple of years ago and fitted the LR Baggs for live use. I haven’t used it as much as I thought I would and so it has to go. Obviously Fender are more noted for their electric guitars, this one is rather nice and gets good reviews. It’s extremely well built and the finish is superb. The top is solid mahogany and the sides laminated mahogany. It plays very well and is a comfortable size to play when standing. I’m happy to deliver locally or meet you half way. There’s no case, so I wouldn’t be willing to post. Graham3 points

Had mine maybe 15 years now, bought it off a guy on here who went through an odd phase of collecting them - he had every colour of SBV500 (the common J/J version) as well as the SBV550 P/J and some other variations, including a couple of the original 60s SB5s or 7s. Mine was a duplicate! Reversibly modded with a hi-mass bridge I had lying around & home-bodged red pearl scratchplate, because the I thought white looked a bit cheapo & nothing like vulgar enough. Definitely a keeper - like the OP says, sounds like a Jazz on steroids and with a 38mm nut width, plays a bit like one too. One of my 3 go-to basses for recording, not too heavy & nothing like as neck-divey as you might think. I've gigged it a few times, although paradoxically, playing prog rather than surf.3 points

They never stop being cool! I'm a big fan of Group Sounds, and the original versions of these were big parts of that scene. They were also the instruments of choice on the first two albums of one of my favorite bands Go!Go!7188.3 points

I had a One10 bought for me as a birthday present a few years ago, and whilst it was a very nice gift, I had no real use for it at the time and then covid happened, so it sat in its bag doing nothing. Recently, though, I've been having quite a ruthless declutter, and rather than sell the One10, I decided to take BF at their word (that a One10 would shift as much air as a decent 1x15 or 2x10) and get another to pair up with the one I already had, and replace my Markbass 104HR rehearsal cabinet. It's turned out better than I could ever have hoped - they're just as loud, but so much clearer. Even the guy who runs the studios we rehearse at keeps coming for a listen and can't quite believe how good they sound - and not just 'for the size'. So my take on it is that if you wouldn't have thought twice about using a conventional, commodity 1x15 or 2x10, you'll be fine with a One10, and if you'd have been reaching for a similar quality 4x10 or 2x15, then a pair of One10s will do the same job just as well if not better. I've been so impressed that I sold my Rumble 500 v3 combo and put the money towards ordering a Two10 for gigging with.3 points

If this was me I'd buy the parts & put a bitsa together. A Precision is such a simple bass you could spec exactly what you want as far as neck, pickups, hardware, finish etc was concerned & have change. The only thing you might struggle with would be the contoured heel - I'd guess that's not a deal-breaker because as far as I know P players are not allowed up the Dusty End!3 points

Couriers will break stuff that isn't packaged bomb-proof, and to be honest we should recognise and respect that reality when we sell things to fellow musicians, if we choose not to then we have to accept the potential risks. Couriers are like baggage handlers, they have to assume that the package is secure (and don't forget that strong bass cases are called 'flight cases' for this reason). My gripe with couriers at present is that whole some appear to have really upped their game with timing and tracking - for example with DPD and Parcelforce not only do I know with certainty which day and between which two hours it's coming (as long as the seller has ticked that box), I can also see the vehicle in real time on a map and get updates if there's a delay - others such as EVRI seem to think it's OK to lose about 50% of packages sent to my home and then literally ignore any attempt by the sender to resolve issues, simply putting up a wall of impenetrable tech. As others have said, the bass is repairable, or at least you have some parts to sell on, with EVRI it would have a 50% chance of having been stolen, lost or misdirected, you's have no bass and no compensation. Oh, and on the off chance it had got to you, it would likely still have been broken3 points

Good luck! Mine is fine. Frets all even, no sharp ends and it is really nicely made but I believe @scrumpymikehad issues with a passive 2S, before getting the Artist version. Luck of the draw I guess. As @fretmeistersaid, at that price why not?3 points

That is repairable... Any good luthier will be able to put that right for less than the price of a new decent quality neck. I've got to agree with @hiram.k.hackenbacker ASSUME THE WORST. I always work from the premise that couriers are idiots, assume the worst and try to compensate for that with lots of bubble wrap, a case if possible and lots of packing. Sorry it took this to learn. Understand you being angry.3 points

I would not be that harsh. I do not think the economics of selling Squiers in hard cases add up. I have not looked into insurance yet (I have not shipped a bass yet) but I suspect it's the same. Last year I bought a Thomann hard case, proper crap, and it cost me some £90 all included if I remember correctly. If I buy a Squire I expect to receive it in a cardboard box and ship it in a cardboard box. We are talking stuff that cost 400 new and most of the time is on offer somewhere at 350 or less. Buying used already means giving up on free returns for no good reason and multi-year guarantees, so the price needs to be competitive.3 points

Could be a couple of things, some bands acknowledge that if they don’t rehearse regularly they’re not as tight as they could be, whereas to some it makes no difference. Other bands like to rehearse regularly as it’s part of their social lives. I used to want to rehearse regularly but nowadays I’m happy with just for new material or if there’s been a gap between gigs, I don’t think I’d want to be in a weekly rehearsing band anymore. It’s worth holding out for what’s important to you unless there’s no chance of that happening.2 points
