Not quite a NBD rather a New Bass 3 weeks ago day... but in that time I have been playing this wonderful bass non stop, it's got that wonderful sound I want and it feels just incredible, it's such a joy. I got it from BassDirect recently as part of their shipment of 5 basses from Sleek Elite in Japan, this model has Hajime Hirose's sig in it and was completed 1 day before my birthday in feb this year! So... meant to be as they say. Here's my cheesy mugshot in BassDirect picking it up; The top on the bass is book matched Rosewood and while it looks quite dark in the photo above there is so much grain pattern to admire; The fngerboard is Macassar Ebony and It has a matching book matched rosewood headstock The body is two pieces of swamp ash and the neck is 3 piece maple I took some photos of the top in today's gorgeous sunshine too, so as well as showing dust and some lacquer swirling it shows how holographic the grain on this bass is I'm really happy with the bass, it sounds killer, had it at 1 band practice and the bass lifted everything in the room it's so clear with huge lows and so much mix cut.15 points

My duo drove from Wiltshire to Lancaster for a 4 band Goth bill. It was an amazing experience, a road trip with my friend of 34yrs. We played great. The Thunderbird into my Blackstar combination worked brilliantly and the audience / other bands were great. We were disciplined so actually made some money to go towards the studio next month. A great experience.10 points

Ooooh! Talk about case candy. Even has a foam mute strip for the bridge cover. And a hootenany button. Reverse tuners. Tug bar. From the wonderful A Strings in Pontypridd who even made me tea and did a quick setup for me while I made a deal with old nick. And not only did they have it in stock, they jad the best shop price in the UK. You cannot be serious... World's coolest wash bag?7 points

Great gig last night in the Balaclava in Fraserburgh - just the tonic I was needing after last weekend's non-event. I gave the Les Paul its first proper outing and it did not disappoint. What beastly pickups these DiMarzio X2N-B are! Neck in parallel - it's honestly a bit too much in series, bridge in series (when I remembered to use it). Started off ok, about 20 folk in the bar when we were setting up, but that's 20 more than what we started with last weekend and 18 more than we finished with. Filled up ok as the first set progressed. Plenty dancers, on chairs and tables sometimes too - the staff didn't seem to mind either. Usually a bouncer comes across pretty swiftly to tell them to knock it off. Zero drunk folk inadvertently physically interacting with the PA or lights too, that's a bonus! Cracking night, had folk coming up and asking when we're coming back which is always a good sign (unless they were asking in order to make sure they avoided us, in which case, it's bad). We ended up doing a couple of extra songs (always nice to get ONE MORE TUNE shouted at you) but what is it with folk coming in late (like last 5 songs) then moaning at you because it's the end of the show? Get off your butts earlier and get down here then if you like music that much!7 points

Already showed here, but it’s my new Leduc Masterpiece Fretless, one of the most beautiful. The sounds is just out of this world. I owned and played several very good fretless (Pedulla, Le Fay, Laurus, ACG, FBass, Status, Noguera, ESP, Takamine, others Leduc, etc…) and for me it’s just THE BEST OF THEM. And woods are so incredible on it, it’s a gem. Thank you very, very much @Hellzero. The woods : Neck : One piece of magnificent Bird’s Eyes Canadian Hard Rock Maple Fingerboard : Very dark Brazilian Rosewood from 19th century Body : French Ash Top : Wonderful Flammed Maple Pickups : Leduc/Benedetti Single Coils with Hum-cancelling Preamp : Leduc/EBS EL-5 Bridge : Aluminium Leduc with Brass saddles Tuners : Hipshot Ultralight Year of birth : 1998 Maybe I’ll make some sounds soon. 😉7 points

It's taken a while to get my 'perfect' (For now at least) rig together, but finally here it is ... this is my full, self contained bass setup (Well, less the strap! lol). Ibanez GSRM25 BOSS dual Cube Bass LX MOD Dwarf + MVave-Chocolate (MIDI FootSwitch) + SONICAKE Passive Volume Pedal Mini Expression (all of these sitting on a Rockboard DUO 2.0) + Krisdonia Laptop Power Bank BOSS Wl-20L Wireless I love 5 string but find that my fretting hand hurts when playing anything more than a shortscale, Ibby is a sub-short scale at 28.6in, sounds great and is SO light! The BOSS is a twin 5in at 10w (Tho it sounds much more) I can fill a small gig space using it, it is able to deliver for smaller outdoor venues and has stereo XLR outputs if I need more oomph. This beauty runs on 8xAA batteries! Settings can be tweaked or music streamed to it via bluetooth. It also has a USB out for recording and it only weighs 4.4kg! The MOD Dwarf is a powerhouse multi f/x unit. Hundreds of plugins including funky stuff like a powerful looper, a plethora of IR capabilities and most recently a neural modelling plugin (As popularised by Neural DSP, with their Quad Cortext) to play/capture hifi gear models. The Dwarf can also host MIDI sequencers and MIDI Synths, a band in a box as required! The MVave adds four MIDI footswitches and the Soniccake drives the MVave to provide MIDI expression/Volume control of the Dwarf. The Krisdona keeps the f/x board running for hours. I love this rig as it it very portable/light, runs for hours without the need of mains power and can produce any sound I desire. Smitten S'manth x6 points

First gig last night for a little project we’ve been working on for a while. Played my favourite room in town, a lovely little dive down by the waterfront. Lots of familiar faces came to cheer it on. Place was packed, band sounded great, sound was perfect. This is going to be fun.5 points

Guy Pratt Betsy Bass for reluctant sale. Owned from new for about 18 months, but played probably less than 20 times so it is in as new condition. I only took the plastic off the pickguard a couple of weeks ago. EDIT- there is a tiny c shaped mark on the back that I've tried to picture. Other than that, it's immaculate. It's a jazz bass, active EMG pickups, and well.... It's burgundy mist (not pink!) which looks amazing! It was setup by the London Bass Centre prior to shipping, and it's currently strung with Stadium Elites medium gauge strings. If you're looking at this ad, you know exactly what it is that it does, and boy does it do it well. If you ask me, it's missing a £1 off the front of the retail price, so £475 is a complete bargain. Selling to fund my daughter's private education (don't ask!) Video of me doing my thing with it here... https://fb.watch/jKSfqeToqz/ From a smoke free, pet-free home, always stored in the LBC gig bag (supplied) and well looked after generally. Can supply an Antony Scott leather strap too if that's your thing. Collection preferred from South Derbyshire (home) or Leicester (work) or happy to meet within a reasonable distance. I can post and have an internal and external guitar box, but postage to be discussed separately. Any collector is welcome to try before they buy, with no obligation. Here are the specs from the LBC website... Inspired by, and not wanting to hijack, @Smanth's similar thread, I've finally reached a point with my rig where I can take a breather before I allow myself to succumb to GAS again. It's come somewhat earlier than planned thanks to an amp failure at the weekend, but behold (and please ignore the mess in the room)! At some point I might want to add another Two10S as a backup for the current one, or to supplement it if we start playing larger gigs, and I will be looking for something like a Trace Elliot Elf as a backup for the ABM, but I think I'm happy with my amp, cab, pedal and instrument menagerie for now (the Sire also does the job but it's still in its case downstairs at the moment). It's a nice feeling that any future purchases will be just for fun rather than necessity, e.g. do I need a 5-string/fretless/etc., how many other pedals can I experiment with, and so on. (No, the amp and cab aren't plugged in as my practice setup is through the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 you might be able to make out in the heap on the desk and out through headphones.)4 points

Well thats the pickguard flattened out and better than before using the heat gun method. If anyone has a bridge they are selling let me know, I don't want to use a shiny new one if possible and in keeping with the age of this bass 71p, original owner installed a new BBOT bridge..4 points

I was going to do something similar a while back but I thought better of it as she might help me along the way quicker than I anticipated 😁4 points

Brought the full rig last night. HDN cabs , Monique driving the Forte. Sounded gorgeous.4 points

Maybe give your ears time to adjust to the cab, maybe it has more mids than you are used to, not less bass !4 points

This is my string damper it's very effective but snores like a rattling drain cover and his farts have been classed as chemical weapons. But i love him dearly.4 points

So 99% done. Needs a string retainer (on order) and a the copper tape under the bridge tidied. Intonation is slightly off - I'll do this when I haven't been harassed by the dog. Thinking about gold knobs instead of plastic. Tuners are Gotoh Reverse - essential left handers - annoyed me at first and I bought a right handed gold set but now I have got used to them I may leave them on. Hopefully have the build thing out of my system now.4 points

Super adjustable compressor, with a pretty cool tape saturation style control (no effect when set to minimum) and a very good 9-led monitor. I found myself with a collection of compressors and it's a bit much So I'm trying to rationalise my collection especially as I'm trying to move to multiFX given my current gig situation (too many different bands with different requirements). Great condition.3 points

JHS Colourbox V2 preamp pedal for sale. Really nice preamp pedal, based on the direct sound of old Neve consoles. Sounds great on bass, guitar, drums... Anything really! Really useful tool that I'm just not using as much anymore. Looking for £300 ono. No original box or manual, but will ship in appropriate box etc.. In perfect condition and only used outside of the studio once or twice. Can post in the UK for £10. Based in Birmingham/Smethwick. Thanks for looking!3 points

If you do, there's a good template for fitting the bridge cover someone on Talkbass posted. It saved me some trepidation when I fitted the cover on my P Bass!3 points

I used a Mesa 210EV, 115EV stack for many years. That combination proved to me that mixing some cabs can work. I'd still be using it but for the fact that 2 x 90+ lbs cabs finally herniated a disk in my lower back! Be safe!!3 points

My wife and I have had this conversation. I keep a spreadsheet of all my gear in our Onedrive. It has details, serial numbers, purchase price, current value and whether or not it's named on the house insurance. She's under instruction to contact Richard Henry (an old guitar dealer friend) and have him sell everything on consignment. She would get a good price for all of it with relatively little hassle. The only downside........she knows exactly what I've got, and exactly what it cost! Rob3 points

It's been a while since I posted here so thought I'd pop this pic of me 'n' my '89 Ray5 at a recent festival gig. Bought in '97, it's been my main go-to bass ever since. All original apart from the white pearl plate. Yeah, it's weightier than a modern Ray -- about 10.5 lbs -- but it's not really a problem. Ask me again when I'm the other side of 70! 👍🤠👍3 points

Finally made a decision to go for the new Shure GLXD16+. Expensive but should be reliable and last a long time. Bought from Guitar Guitar who had them in stock and will be delivered Tues. That gives me a chance to test at a rehearsal next weekend and a gig following weekend. Dual band version and seems to get good reviews on the earlier version and from what i could find on this version. 3 yr warranty so that has to be a good thing. Thanks as always for all the advice guys. Always appreciated. Dave3 points

Up for sale is a really beautiful Sadowsky Modern 4-24 featuring Akume body with AAAA Claro Walnut top, roasted alpine maple C shaped neck, ebony fingerboard with 12” radius, Sadowsky soap bars and pre amp. It is in outstanding condition, there is barely a mark on it (I actually can’t see any) There is a small amount of fret wear (pictured) but nothing that affects play and would be removed in a matter of minutes by a decent tech. The weight is 3.2kg so ridiculously light and it balances absolutely perfectly on the strap. The only thing that I can pull it up on is a small indentation to the inside of the electronics compartment lid that does affect the shielding contact. I use a small piece of foil to bridge the gap as a cheap solution however the ideal thing would be to buy a new cover which are available through Warwick. Not a biggie but would rather be up front. Original gig bag, tools, leather strap and paperwork all included. Collection from Leicester welcome and payment with bank transfer or Paypal friends and family Blurb from Sadowsky below… Sadowsky MetroLine 24-Fret Vintage Bass • only 100 pcs. worldwide (4- and 5-string combined) • right-hand version • 4-string electric bass, 34" (864 mm) long scale • sleek undersized J-Style body with deep cutaways, AAAA Figured Claro Walnut top, Okoume body • bolt-on Roasted Alpine Maple neck (C shape), Ebony fingerboard, dot inlays, 12" fingerboard radius • Sadowsky Just-A-Nut III nut, 1.5" (38.5 mm) nut width, 24 nickel silver frets (0.094" (2.4 mm) x 0.051" (1.3 mm)), Invisible Fret Technology (IFT) • passive Sadowsky Jazz pickup in classic Jazz, passive Sadowsky Soapbar pickup in 60s Jazz position bridge • active Sadowsky 2-way electronics (bass and treble boost) with Vintage Tone Control (VTC), controls for Volume / Balance / Vintage Tone Control (P/P) / Treble and Bass (stacked), push/pull function at VTC knob for preamp bypass • electronics compartment with easy access cover, Sadowsky Light machine heads with open gear, Sadowsky S-security locks, Sadowsky bridge with quick string release, black hardware • Sadowsky Blue Label .045 - .105 strings • Natural Transparent Sa5n finish • weight max. 8.9 lbs (4.04 kg) • incl. hex key tools, individual Certificate of Authenticity signed by Roger Sadowsky, Sadowsky Portabag and leather strap with Sadowsky logo • made in Germany3 points

Just joined after chatting in my local music store today, been playing for many years but over the last 7 have been unable to as a bit old and decrepit now! I have a lovely Fender P Bass (1988 Sunburst) and a little Carlsboro amp and speaker combo, both lovely sounds and am sadly having to part with the both soon. I'll aim to add some pictures soon and just to say a thanks to Leyton for the intro to this great site. Nice to say hi to anyone local here (near Neath and Swansea) in South Wales. Cheers all2 points

Hi, I'm not an expert on Spector basses, there seem to be a myriad of models so if any one can help identify the model that would be helpful. Taken in a trade, she's a Korean made Active bass with neck thru design and the Spector carved curved body profile, finished in trans black over a flamed maple top. She has no dings just some light play swirls and the odd small mark. The Spector hard case is in great condition and is included with the sale. NOW £495 Shipping is £35 £25 UK.2 points

Like DAD says about listening while 'not standing just in front', tweeters are very directional, unlike your 12" speaker, so if you switch the tweeter on you may end up focussing a lot of HF sound somewhere you can't hear it, but other people can. Step away from the speaker a bit and listen at wherever the tweeter is pointing to appreciate what it may be doing. PS This is why some cabs can be tilted - you won't hear the output of your tweeter if it is pointing at your knees2 points

Unstaffed studios with online booking and code entry seems to be the only rehearsal places available near me. E.g. Pirate Studios, who operate in Europe & the US. You couldn’t do 24/7 any other way I guess.2 points

Regarding the sore hand when playing five string - try raising your strap height, it will provide a better breal-angle on your left wrist. Hope this helps2 points
