Absolutely ripping club gig last night, local to me for a change. Local as in a mile from my front door. Big crowd up and dancing right from the 'Buh' of 'Buster...', they even danced to our sound check now the club desperately want us back later in the year and the local beer festival are dying to book us too. Gratuitous office shot. Skanking with the crowd11 points

Friday night at The Chameleon in Nottingham with Hurtsfall, supporting Chaos Bleak and Senex IV We missed our last rehearsal as our synth player had picked up some lurgy from his kids, and we definitely noticed that we weren't as tight as we should have been, and because of that we weren't ready to play any of the new songs we had been working on so it was the same set as we did last time. Also note for future gigs not to ask for any changes to the foldback mix without trying them first - my idea of very slightly more Bass VI in the monitors and the sound engineer's was somewhat different... However the audience thought we were great and despite going on first at 7.30 it was pretty close to packed from the beginning, Saw some old faces from the past and a couple of people who regularly attend In Isolation gigs who didn't realise that I also play with Hurtsfall. Photo from the gig showing our singer in full Goth Friday mode as we play the song "Revelator":9 points

Saturday afternoon saw the first outing for Rascallion in 2023, appearing as the first "Outdoor Band" of the year at a local village pub (and coincidentally the first time we've ever played there too). Really nice setup in the beer garden, with a marquee roof running the full length, though as things turned out it might have been better if they'd had the sides on too - despite the lovely sunshine, it was both a tad draughty and incredibly chilly in the shade, and by the time we finished at about 6:30pm (having kicked off at 4pm, with a 30 minute break between sets) we were all suffering from cramp and frozen fingers (but fortunately had just enough dexterity and feeling left to be able to bash out "Bad Moon Rising" as a much-demanded encore). Other than the usual distraction of the odd bass note booming through the monitors (octave E's this time rather than the usual B's and C's... 🤨 ), all went reasonably well. Overall, it probably wasn't the best we've ever played tbh, but conversely a couple of numbers turned out the best we've ever done them, so swings and roundabouts, eh? Despite the onstage boominess, FoH sound was spot-on, and the audience were appreciative throughout, with one particular lady declaring we were "f****** awesome" at the end. There again, drink may well have been taken, so... 🤷♂️ As it is, we were already booked for late August BH Sunday at the same venue, but they've now also asked if we could be available at short notice should they find themselves needing a band any time before then, so guess we must have made a decent enough impression. Next scheduled gig is an open-air local charity festival in mid-July - hopefully it'll be a bit warmer that day! Picture from the pub FB page...8 points

Great wee two hour set in Paisley last night, was home before the Chinese takeaway shut too, which isn’t the norm these days. But two hours right through, without a break, isn’t what I’m used to anymore and suffering today. Had fun though and doing PA for a friend today, so need to unload the van again tonight.7 points

Not quite a NBD rather a New Bass 3 weeks ago day... but in that time I have been playing this wonderful bass non stop, it's got that wonderful sound I want and it feels just incredible, it's such a joy. I got it from BassDirect recently as part of their shipment of 5 basses from Sleek Elite in Japan, this model has Hajime Hirose's sig in it and was completed 1 day before my birthday in feb this year! So... meant to be as they say. Here's my cheesy mugshot in BassDirect picking it up; The top on the bass is book matched Rosewood and while it looks quite dark in the photo above there is so much grain pattern to admire; The fngerboard is Macassar Ebony and It has a matching book matched rosewood headstock The body is two pieces of swamp ash and the neck is 3 piece maple I took some photos of the top in today's gorgeous sunshine too, so as well as showing dust and some lacquer swirling it shows how holographic the grain on this bass is I'm really happy with the bass, it sounds killer, had it at 1 band practice and the bass lifted everything in the room it's so clear with huge lows and so much mix cut.6 points

Great night at Rocky’s Bar in Gillingham, despite having to play as just a four-piece (rhythm guitarist/second lead singer sidelined by some ghastly stomach-bug). Finished at 11.45 with table-dancing by our singer and some punters, whose age group was a lot younger than our normal audience at 20-40. And they still love a bit of 50s rock & roll!5 points

I’ve had my G&L Fallout USA for a 3 or 4 months now and I just love it. I have a set of Labella DTFs on it which gives me just the right combination of warm and mellow enough when played gently but also just enough attack when played with a plectrum. I’ve always had a soft spot for G&Ls but sometimes found that MFD too much, but with these strings, and being on a short scale, it’s just perfect. I especially love how rich and full the D and G strings sound. I think also, with the neck it has and the position of the bridge, although it is a short scale, it doesn’t feel TOO different compared to a 34”, which is cool. (As an aside, I wish G&L would put their 1 5/8” neck on more of their basses). Interestingly, finding how much I was enjoying playing a short scale, I went off and tried the JMJ Mustang everyone raves about last week. It was fine, but the G&L is SO much better, I think. I bought it new (£1149 from GuitarGuitar) and out the factory, the fret edges needed a bit of attention (which is disappointing, especially for a USA instrument) but with that fixed, it’s all grand now. I don’t see much chat for the Fallout but def recommended. I’d quite like a fretless one too. 😃5 points

Ooooh! Talk about case candy. Even has a foam mute strip for the bridge cover. And a hootenany button. Reverse tuners. Tug bar. From the wonderful A Strings in Pontypridd who even made me tea and did a quick setup for me while I made a deal with old nick. And not only did they have it in stock, they jad the best shop price in the UK. You cannot be serious... World's coolest wash bag?4 points

Guy Pratt Betsy Bass for reluctant sale. Owned from new for about 18 months, but played probably less than 20 times so it is in as new condition. I only took the plastic off the pickguard a couple of weeks ago. EDIT- there is a tiny c shaped mark on the back that I've tried to picture. Other than that, it's immaculate. It's a jazz bass, active EMG pickups, and well.... It's burgundy mist (not pink!) which looks amazing! It was setup by the London Bass Centre prior to shipping, and it's currently strung with Stadium Elites medium gauge strings. If you're looking at this ad, you know exactly what it is that it does, and boy does it do it well. If you ask me, it's missing a £1 off the front of the retail price, so £475 is a complete bargain. Selling to fund my daughter's private education (don't ask!) Video of me doing my thing with it here... https://fb.watch/jKSfqeToqz/ From a smoke free, pet-free home, always stored in the LBC gig bag (supplied) and well looked after generally. Can supply an Antony Scott leather strap too if that's your thing. Collection preferred from South Derbyshire (home) or Leicester (work) or happy to meet within a reasonable distance. I can post and have an internal and external guitar box, but postage to be discussed separately. Any collector is welcome to try before they buy, with no obligation. Here are the specs from the LBC website... It's taken a while to get my 'perfect' (For now at least) rig together, but finally here it is ... this is my full, self contained bass setup (Well, less the strap! lol). Ibanez GSRM25 BOSS dual Cube Bass LX MOD Dwarf + MVave-Chocolate (MIDI FootSwitch) + SONICAKE Passive Volume Pedal Mini Expression (all of these sitting on a Rockboard DUO 2.0) + Krisdonia Laptop Power Bank BOSS Wl-20L Wireless I love 5 string but find that my fretting hand hurts when playing anything more than a shortscale, Ibby is a sub-short scale at 28.6in, sounds great and is SO light! The BOSS is a twin 5in at 10w (Tho it sounds much more) I can fill a small gig space using it, it is able to deliver for smaller outdoor venues and has stereo XLR outputs if I need more oomph. This beauty runs on 8xAA batteries! Settings can be tweaked or music streamed to it via bluetooth. It also has a USB out for recording and it only weighs 4.4kg! The MOD Dwarf is a powerhouse multi f/x unit. Hundreds of plugins including funky stuff like a powerful looper, a plethora of IR capabilities and most recently a neural modelling plugin (As popularised by Neural DSP, with their Quad Cortext) to play/capture hifi gear models. The Dwarf can also host MIDI sequencers and MIDI Synths, a band in a box as required! The MVave adds four MIDI footswitches and the Soniccake drives the MVave to provide MIDI expression/Volume control of the Dwarf. The Krisdona keeps the f/x board running for hours. I love this rig as it it very portable/light, runs for hours without the need of mains power and can produce any sound I desire. Smitten S'manth x4 points

No longer in a band and nothing on the horizon so sadly need to let this fantastic cab go. It was up for sale a while ago but I withdrew it as I doubt I’ll ever own such a great cab again! This is the 8 ohm version so it can be paired with another cab if preferred. I’ve done very loud rehearsals with this cab and a 350w head and it’s been awesome - beautifully clear, loud and punchy and a one handed lift. Ive never gigged this cab and I don’t think the previous owner could have done either as it is in mint condition as is the branded cover. £500 collected from mid Cornwall. For a bit of petrol money I’d be happy to head east for an hour or two if that helps Please don’t ask me to post this. If you want to send a box and arrange collection that could be doable.3 points

@Chiliwailer 1-bass to rule them all is a very good approach, I’m trying to get there albeit with 1xfretted and 1xfretless. @Dad3353 you’re spot in, tone is 99% how you play 👍3 points

Yes, just like me. I, too, was 'fairly young' for the first seventy years or so. I may have to re-advise soon, though.3 points

1983 Yamaki made Daion Mark X B. Very rare version and indeed there are no other recorded cases of this version. Pre amp was added by the original owner shortly after purchase in 1984 and is believed to be a Kent Armstrong. It's seen service as a gigging bass over the last 40 years and as such has some dings and marks. Plays extremely well and has a comfortable asymmetric neck. Would much prefer people try it out before buying but if you need it posting let me know. Edit: comes with original hard case!3 points

The Fallout, since getting a tribute a year ago and then getting a USA ( yellow with stripe!) one from Ash on BC, is all I want to play now. Great balanced sound and no dead spots. I use the OMG mode but dialled back, the parallel setting can sound great with an octave pedal also. Has anybody found a gig bag that fits one well enough? I'm just using a standard full scale one but shorter would be better. Thanks3 points

Yeah, I’ve been sticking with parallel too. String tension - I have mostly EB Cobalt flats on my other basses but I think the Labella’s slightly higher tension works well actually, as it compensates for the slightly floppier feel you’d normally get on a short scale. It generally adds to that making it not TOO different from a 34” feel too, I think. The sustain is surprisingly good also. I got the 760FS-S (45-105). You could always try the slightly lighter 760FL-S. But hey, if they’re good enough for Ed Friedland…. I’d quite like to try the Fallout with something slightly livelier at some point - like Chromes maybe - but it’s all just so nice just now I don’t want to mess with it. We did some recording recently and our regular engineer said “that’s the best sounding bass you’ve ever had”. #shamelessplugalert3 points

Hi, I'm not an expert on Spector basses, there seem to be a myriad of models so if any one can help identify the model that would be helpful. Taken in a trade, she's a Korean made Active bass with neck thru design and the Spector carved curved body profile, finished in trans black over a flamed maple top. She has no dings just some light play swirls and the odd small mark. The Spector hard case is in great condition and is included with the sale. NOW £495 Shipping is £35 £25 UK.3 points

The next instalment in my pedal clearout in the spirit of getting rid of stuff i dont use on a daily basis... my EBS Billy Sheehan Ultimate Signature Overdrive, including the special splitter cable for the effects loop and I'm pretty sure I have the box somewhere I just need to dig it out! An amazing and versatile pedal that I've had a lot of good use out of but through sheer laziness I haven't used for months as I can never be bothered to take my pedalboard to gigs or sessions! Pedal is in very good condition, a couple of small nicks in the paint you can see in the photo but in full working order! £160 delivered Now £140 delivered2 points

You've probably seen this kicking about the classifieds for a wee while for not alot of money. Over the weekend I decided just to take a punt on it. Got it delivered today. First impression is that its HEAVY. I don't think I've ever owned a combo this heavy. But.. it sounds tremendous. Had it in a rehearsal this evening with 2 guitarists playing rock covers and it more than easily handled it. Clear, defined, punchy but has incredible bottom end available with just a tweak of the EQ. The size and weight will probably mean this will only get whipped out when it's really necessary.. but for just over 100 quid, I highly doubt you could get a better giggable amp. Very happy with It.. so much so I'm tempted to hunt down a matching extension cab to get that wall of TE.. for this special occasions.2 points

IME there are two things. It has to be neck through for the tone. Secondly, the neck dive and relative reach to the 1st fret is a big playability issue, and the reason why i didn't buy one, even though sitting down it sounded great. As soon as i stood up with it, i knew it wasn't the bass for me.2 points

Skip entry level, and several levels after that. My minimum would be a good 500-800 watt head and 2 good 112's. I use Aguilar amps and Barefaced cabs. They cover any genre and playing situation. They are light, loud, modular, great sounding and reliable.2 points

Oh my that is absolutely perfect. In the meantime I'm having a fretless neck built for my Sterling Ray34. I bought it with a Status graphite neck but I wanted a slimmer neck, and a wood neck. So I contacted a befriended luthier here in the Netherlands and he's building a flame maple neck for me, with an unlined fretless ebony board. Can't wait!2 points

Love my US Fallout, as you say the pickup can be on the hot side, I tend to use the parallel setting mostly but the omg is awesome in moderation. Picked mine up from Adee a while back and it gets used a fair bit on gigs. What’s the tension like on the labellas, I’d like to give em a go but I’m not keen if the tension is on the high side?2 points
