SOLD Fender USA Highway One Jazz Precision Bass with J-Retro 01 Pre-amp, Badass II bridge. It was a Jazz, now it's a P/J. Ok, there's a bit of a story behind this one: I bought this bass used approx 10 years ago and although the bass was fine, someone had made a really bad job at trying to "relic" it. The original finish was red nitrocellulose. It looked like someone had deliberately scuffed off the paint (in a really artificial way) and maybe repeatedly hit it with a bunch of keys! So, I removed the remains of the nitrocellulose paint and painstakingly "refinished" the body using some wood dye and Wudtone waxes and finish. It literally took weeks! It's still very irregular and has various pits and scratches, but I think it looks cool, like it's been used and has aged. There is nothing structurally wrong with this guitar. The neck is straight, has a low action and the truss rod works. The back of the neck has a few dings in it. Nothing dreadful. I don't notice them when playing it. You may be able to "heat them out" but I haven't tried, as it doesn't bother me. I also fitted a John East J-Retro 01 Pre-amp (currently retailing at £187.50) this works brilliantly. The last modifications are the Bakelite pickguard and a Fender Pure Vintage '62 Precision Bass® Pickup (currently £105.00 from fender) in the neck position. The bridge pickup is the one that came with the bass. If you wanted to, the pickguard and pickup could be changed back to Jazz Bass, and the extra routing for the P-Bass pickup filled. I don't have the original Jazz pickguard or pickup any more. It's hard to put a price on this bass. They seem to be selling for £1000 ish on Reverb, but they'll be in stock condition, but ......no expensive preamp! I could be open to offers! Please note this bass is also listed elsewhere. Postage is £25.00 insured, or you can arrange. Now SOLD Hi Folks, Up for sale is my Squier Classic Vibe 70s P Bass, which comes fully set up and has the benefit of being upgraded with Fender Original P Bass pick ups, so it really does sound good! I'm looking for £SOLD for the bass, which I think is reasonable given the bass would cost £360 new and the pick ups about £90. These pick ups really do sound good to my ears - the sound is exactly what you'd expect from a P Bass, full, throaty and with lots of attack and presence. As can be seen in the photos, it's in almost new condition and since I bought it at the start of the year, I've only used it for a few rehearsals. It really does look great IMO, and it plays really nicely, though obviously that's a very personal thing; I tend towards a medium-high action, but everything is working as it should so it won't be difficult to adjust it to your preference. Strings are D'Addario nickels, 0.45-105s. Tech spec available here : https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Squier-Classic-Vibe-70s-Precision-Bass-MN-Black/2ZY8?origin=product-ads&gclid=CjwKCAjw586hBhBrEiwAQYEnHRTWaVK89KjNTbFZeJsRUT8GRn3klFdxvsV2QmafhsYUukpXGem7rBoCazIQAvD_BwE I'll post up the weight later... The only reason I'm selling is because there's something else I really want, and as this was last in, it's a case of first out... No trades please. I'm based in Potton, Bedfordshire and would much prefer to sell the bass to someone who's able to collect in person. As an aternative, I'd be happy to arrange a meet up in person within an hours drive from me.. Having had too many negative courier issues over the years with bass , I'm not comfortable with posting this but would consider it if absolutely necessary. I have a lovely Thomann tweed case that I could throw in as extra for £50 which would make it safer to ship. Trials welcome by arrangement with your amp of choice! Thanks for looking and if you have any questions, please send me a message via PM or ask away here. Cheers Nik6 points

G&L SB2 early Korean version, £175. Some muppet (ME!!) was sniffy about the rather loud 'TRIBUTE' in big letters and stupidly altered the headstock logo to fool absolutely nobody into thinking it's a US version. Oh well, you live and learn hopefully. Hence the 100 quid below bluebook asking price. The price also accounts for the fact that I don't want to post it, happy to meet up within reason. The serial number is still present, it was bought from a Basschatter who'd done a very good fret dress so it plays wonderfully. I only ever used it as a backup bass but now I'm using shortscale basses it's gathering dust. A great way into finding out if G&L basses are for you, the usual USA made MFD pickups are fitted. Thanks, Martin5 points

Sire P5 Precision Bass. Excellent condition. As new. Looks unused. "The P5 is a newly-designed Sire bass guitar, joining the acclaimed Marcus Miller lineup. Taking heavy inspiration from vintage precision-style instruments, Sire's utilitarian P5 model has plenty of classic character with its timeless body shape and solid construction — dishing out thumping low-end tones via a lone, middle-mounted split-coil pickup. Further noteworthy appointments include a rock-solid roasted Maple neck with a rolled-edge fingerboard, medium-sized frets, open-gear tuners and a genuine bone nut. Available at a fantastic price-point to boot, like all Sire instruments, the P5 is a versatile bass that perfectly blends traditional allure with modern refinement." (Last 2 photos from the Anderton's website) Delivery charge £25.00 includes full insurance, or buyer arranges. Listed elsewhere too.5 points

NOW £675. Definitely interested in trades so try me. A Fantastic as new condition Lakland 55-01 Bass in Cream finish, the build quality is excellent ! and the Bartolini Set up sounds great, coupled with the graphite reinforced neck and Pleck'd fretwork this bass plays superbly and is very stable. Strung with a newish set of Rotosounds (lightish gauge), it really is in amazing condition. Ive looked all over it and all I can find are some light scratches at the top of the headstock (pictured). Another failed 5 string experiment for me. I bought this to replace a 5 string Warwick corvette as I was convinced the wider neck would stop my fingers getting tangled, and it did to an extent, but the truth is, I don't play it because I'm too much of a 4 string player to change my ways now. I’ll not post as I've nothing to pack it in - however I'd be happy to drive within an hour. I might be open to trades, I've a hankering for a P with flats for example (4 string of course) but won't be adding any cash to a deal. The Skyline Series basses are made in Indonesia and then shipped to Laklands facility in Chicago for the Pleck setup and final inspection so they really are first class instruments! From the Lakland Website : SKYLINE SERIES 55-01 Versatility with high-end features! The 55-01 utilizes the classic Lakland body shape with a pair of Bartolini MK-1 split-coil soap bar pickups and an MK-1 onboard, 3-band buffered, active preamp. You can dial in an amazing variety of tones, from modern slap, to warm fingerstyle to aggressive picked tones. The 35″ scale neck is fast and smooth providing the killer B sound Lakland 5’s are famous for.4 points

SOLD Had a short scale itch I've been desperate to scratch for ages. 2 weeks ago I finally got my hands on this Classic Vibe Mustang bass, courtesy of @itsmedunc It's super easy to play, able to fly around the neck comfortably. It's in excellent condition with no marks on it. Got some really great sounds in it too. Unfortunately for me I prefer all my full scale basses and I know I won't gig with this, so it may as well go to a new home were it will played. Would be willing to trade for an Ashdown Evo RM 500/800. Pick up preferred but can meet up in the Northwest. Postage is an option too.4 points

😄 I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but I quite liked not having the option of multiple bases. I just got on with that bass and focussed on playing. I also didn’t have to worry about maintaining multiple basses, buying strings for them, finding space to store them etc. I am tempted to add another into rotation though.4 points

As some of you may have noticed, I'm a massive fan of Cardiacs music. Tim Smith (RIP) was the driving force and composer extraordinaire behind the band, but never overlook the complex and cleverly crafted basslines played by his brother Jim. So, here's a guy who only describes himself as 'G' doing a pretty well note perfect cover of the acrobatic bass line to 'Dog Like Sparky' B****y genius in my opinion, both the original and this cover. 🙂4 points

I'm juggling three projects at the moment, two guitars and a bass. Today I did some work on the "Double Denim" bass. I glued an old pair of jeans (deemed too tatty for the charity shop to sell, except to me) onto the body and headstock using pva . I then put a double layer of masking tape around the edge and checked that it was level... Then I poured the resin. It's darker than I thought but who knows what it will look like on the finished bass Now we wait....4 points

Current rig with the 2x10 for the more "intimate" venues...........the 2112 with the RM800 EQ set flat is beautiful....and the RBI is A/B'd to shift the tone if desired.......75 re-issue Jazz has a Badass II fitted and a set of Geddy Tom Brantley pups await to be fitted. Don't think thats correct. It is a midi audio interface as well as a stomp fx box. Deffo check you have the right drivers installed unusual for a USB cable not to work but its possible its faulty. Also change the USB hub on the PC if you have more than one. And if not succesful, try uninstalling the software and reinstalling in a new usb slot.3 points

I have a late 80s / early 90s custom Thumb NT and used to have a more recent bolt on version as well. My impression was that sonically they were pretty similar. There is a video on youtube where somebody compared a Thumb BO with a NT, and I think it answered that question pretty decently. Fretboard wood (notwithstanding the scepticism surrounding the topic) might make a difference, especially with NT with an ebony fretboard. In any event, the characteristic sound is given by the pick up position rather than anything else. I second those who said that a Thumb's voice is absolutely unique. Other Warwick basses, especially with MEC pick ups, are voiced somewhat similarly, but they do not sound the same on account of the rather unique pick up placement. I don't use mine as much as I'd like, but there is no arguing that it is an incredible instrument. In terms of versatility, it depends. I find that it goes well with a number of genres—much like a Stingray does—though of course if you are aiming for a fat P bass tone you are probably doing it wrong.3 points

Up for sale a beautiful 1971 Fender Precision, with added J, in a super worn Olympic White, or Olympic Custard as it is now. The bass was stripped in 1972 and then in 1973, so the story goes, Bassdoc installed the Dimarzio Jazz pick up and the bass was refinished in the original colour. So, it's a refinish but 50 years old now so it's aged beautifully. New RS pots were added ( I am pretty sure I have the original 71's too, I will check ) and the jack repositioned. The bass has - Original tuners Original Bridge Original Precision pick ups Dimarzio Jazz added 1973 Pots are replacement RS pots, again in ‘73 5ply scratchplate. 40mm Nut Weight 3.9kg Old hard case included. Truss rod works perfectly and the bass has mainly housed flats so the frets are pretty good too. It was the main bass of a local studio/theatre guy and I purchased it from the shop which sold it on his behalf. Any trial welcome and courier is my preferred option which is £65 and normally a week wait. I am happy to meet somewhere to hand over too, but coffee and cake always available here should anyone want to come to Northumberland to check it out. I will get more pics of the 'engine room' over the weekend too. I withdrew this a while ago but it doesn't get the love it deserves so thought I would give it another whirl. I am not looking for trades but you're welcome to try.3 points

Ok, so here is a weird one, Silicone strings, fretless, 18" scale length, dogbone body. Designed to be a convenient alternative to the upright bass that apparently some session players used in the 80's? This is one of the later 'Fender' licensed versions that I bought from the forum several years ago. Haven't used it much so off it goes. Overall in very good shape although I have unfortunately added a chip in the front edge - See pics. Comes with the original soft case and a few spare strings Identical to the one demoed here: https://www.google.com/search?q=fender+ashbory+bass&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB896GB896&sxsrf=APwXEdcA0rQXn8TRf5pvewsHBtd-AP9K1w:1680440284537&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjJh-fxn4v-AhU-_7sIHVedBTYQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1225&bih=1359&dpr=1.8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:8f315b21,vid:-yfKsRzLHqY Nice little article here: https://www.basscentre.com/bass-centre-ashbory-bass.html Difficult to price as I can't seem to find any others for sale at the moment so I've listed it as £250, but will listen to near offers. Very happy to demo it here in North London N21 or can post at cost.2 points

I lent my bass out a few weeks ago. It was to Martin Turner though (ex-Wishbone Ash), who had travelled 100 miles or so to a gig without his bass. Luckily I have a Thunderbird and was not too far away... Oh, and I hung around to make sure he took care of it... and buy me dinner too2 points

A Warwick Thumb NT is like a Rickenbacker to me; if you want that unique sound you need to adjust your playing technique from the more common FSO position. If you're not able to do that then walk away. End of.2 points

I think you're going to find it easy enough to cope. I went for a period of some years with only one bass ...no problems at all. In fact, I've recently downgraded from three to two as I don't like extra instruments laying around that don't get much playing time. I could never be a collector 😉2 points

I'm an old, miserable, crusty paying punter, so maybe I'm one of Ralph's audience. I'm not at the gig because I want to hear musos getting uber precious about their popular songs, I'm paying to be entertained, not the band to entertained, it's a huge difference ...the hits are popular for a reason, we like them and we want to, what's the word.... 'resonate' along to them or there's a danger of feeling hard done by. It's a delicate path, get it right and it's great, but more often... And it's usually the same 'remix' too, slowed right down like a musty folky open mic night, a lot of wailing, a solo bit on an odd 'hey nony nony' woodwind instrument, and more than few in the audience looking about thinking, ney hoping, it will suddenly stop, then leap into something more recognisable....maybe harsh but rarely do I think "that worked well". A few very random examples. I've heard Mozza do it, was shockingly bad, even his hardcore had raised brows....did someone at the back here say it must of been an improvement? Been there when Rose Royce did it all night, and it was all night... punters leaving by any open door and, the band calling the audience out between songs, "wheres your respect" and worse. Was the Winter Gardens, not some chic, prosecco infested jazz bar, with a silent audience, nodding approvingly at the alternative tunings and chordal theorise. The exception that proves the rule: My mate got free tickets for Transvision Vamp (remember them) from Wendy James dad. As we were working 5 mins from the gig, we thought what's to loose. To be fair they were very good live, tight as, but, had about 5 songs. We were treated to more versions of I Want Your Love, than I thought possible, but without those erm, remixes it would of been a long wait outside for our lift, and it was middle of winter. Mate of mines good friends with Dave Hill of Slade fame, met Mr Hill a couple of times albeit few years back now, a real fun straight up fella. Definitely not, a case of never meet ya hero's as I was a real fan back in the day. His take on doing the same tunes?.... why not, and why wouldn't you, they are good earners, pay the bills, and he enjoys smiles on the punters faces and they are paying guests. Music is/was his business, he remembers when didn't have pot to urinate in. OK Slade have been and gone, but I think it's still a fair example. Or to summarise. Give us what we want, not what you want, or we may not pay again.2 points
