  1. Never thought I'd let this go but things change! Musicman Stingray 4H from 2009 I believe. I've owned it for the last twelve years or so. Immaculate condition & standard apart from the high gloss vintage tint lacquered neck that was beautifully done by Mr Shuker, it had a refret at the same time. Currently strung with new Cobalt Flats & comes with original case & 3ply pickgurd plus the matte black single ply pickgurd, a white single ply pickgurd & white pickup cover. All original Musicman items & not reproduction. I'll get an accurate weight & high res photos when I get five but any questions feel free to ask. Just weighed the Stingray on the bathroom scales with the me+me & the bass - me scientific method & it's came in at 4.4kg. Based in the West Midlands & local pickup or meetup only for this one I'm afraid.

  2. I recently bought a 2011 Overwater Aspiration Elite from Bass Direct and I am really impressed with how good it is. I was in the market for a nice but inexpensive fretted 5 as a second bass, and this fitted the bill really well. However, I have decided I really don't need it as it's relegated my fretless to storage, and that's much too nice a bass to not be gigged! So, first of all it's in great condition. I don't think there's a mark on it anywhere. The fingerboard needed an oil, but other than that all is good. It's a five piece neck through, maple and something walnut-like would be my guess, with what appears to be an ash body capped with a burl maple top. It's 35" scale, so a nice tight B string, and the 19mm spacing at the bridge is perfect for me (same as my Franz basses) and the main reason I got it. EQ is a three band Overwater system designed by John East. The control cavity is thoroughly shielded using paint and copper tape. The bridge and pickups are Overwater branded too, but I assume made in Korea along with the bass itself. The standard tuners were mini Gotoh-like ones, but as the bass was a bit neck heavy I have swapped them for Gotoh ResOLites which take the weight to bang on 9 lbs and have sorted the balance. Other than that the bass is stock. I've also added threaded screws to hold the control cavity cover in place. Live, the bass is really articulate: every note comes through crisp and clear. I honestly wasn't expecting it to sound as good as it does. I've played basses way more expensive than this that weren't half as good! £400 is a bargain considering the tuners were over £100. I will include a cheap gig bag. Would prefer not to ship as I have no box, but such things are always negotiable!

  3. I've decided to let a few of my basses go so I can try out others that I've overlooked. Here's my Skyline 55-02 from 2017 that I've owned from new. It's in great condition & completely standard apart from the vintage tint lacquer that I had applied to the neck. I will get an accurate weight & add it here but for now I'll just say that it's light, it's the lightest bass I've ever played & balances well on the strap. I won't type up the blurb, I'll take it that most here will know what they're looking at but of course, feel free to ask any questions. More photos coming when I get five minutes to get the camera out. Based in the Midlands & local pickup or meetup preferred but I will post at the buyers expense. Not considering trades at the moment & the price is firm.

  4. 'Twas! So here's the crack. The previous owner was an interesting chap by all accounts... A Glaswegian who originally played double bass in the pit band at The London Palladium throughout the 50s and 60s, backing EVERYONE. He moved to Bermuda in the early 70s, where he bought this new from Music City in Hamilton on the island for... $315. He then gigged it relentlessly as a member of the house band in the Princess Hotel. After he retired, he returned to Glasgow and sadly passed away last year... hence it ending up in auction. We drove up to Glasgow this morning to collect it - we're staying up here for a couple of days so I haven't been able to plug it in yet. That'll have to wait. So far, so very good. Medium weight, resonant, balances perfectly. Original case. Came with bridge cover, manual, some old (proper) tort picks and some really old-school cables. I've popped the neck.. it's a B neck, very clean in the neck cavity. There's a replaced screw on one of the tuners. I suspect it's had a refret - no surprise as it's probably thousands of gigs in. I haven't taken their guard off yet as I don't have decent tools with me, so that'll have to wait. Hopefully no surprises under there. I'll do an NBD thread when I've had more time to tinker...

  5. Wasn't thinking about buying a bass. Then found myself buying this 70s Antoria, fujigen made. I've kinda been a silent fan, of dare I say Japcrap instruments of the era and I fancied something different and vintage. And this one is in exceptional condition so I bought it. I believe its 73 to 75? Its pretty much all original. Came with the pu covers. Needed some standard setup work. But for a 50 year old instrument it's excellent, zero setup issues. Neck is straight with no weird ski jumps, fret board and frets perfect. Original electrics work perfectly, might of had a new jack. Hardware is half decent. Reserving judgment on tone as only played it through powered speaker no pre amp! And used strings. Slightly worried that those maxon pickups will be rubbish. Not overly heavy, but not light. What wood(s) is the body made from? I know its a chopping block construction. Made me wonder where did this fit in, on the quality hierarchy back in the day? I assume it was a more budget instrument? I'm really impressed by its quality and how well the wood in the neck has managed to not do anything weird. I've seen a lot of basses with ski jumps and all sorts at a few years old, nevermind 50 years.

  6. As from this morning I’m the proud owner of a brand spanking Fender Player Precision. It’s the first stock Precision I’ve ever owned and I’m loving it. I’ve nearly always had jazz neck type basses so this is pleasantly different.

  7. It might look 'a bit messy' to you, but it looks very much 'par for the course' to me. If that's the only 'issue', I'd quote the old saw 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. There will be no advantage gained from re-wiring; I don't consider solder joints to be part of an instruments value, myself, but there's no reason to touch 'em, as far as I can see. Maybe a dash of contact cleaner for the pots, whilst it's open, but that's all. Move along now; nothing to see here...

  8. So new to Rayman towers is this early 00s Epiphone Embassy Standard IV. Basically a Thunderbird in a more manageable shape, I grabbed it for a very bargain price, not expecting much I’ll be honest. Well how wrong I was, after the usual setup/cleanup, replaced the very average Jin Ho tuners with Hipshots, then fitted it with Roto flats, it’s a stonker. Beautiful blue/green translucent finish, it has been sat on a wall unplayed since it was bought new nearly 20yrs ago apparently. Lovely action, nice honk, NICE dubby lows with a little top end zing, nice. I’ve gone from two basses to 7 in a very short space of time….. and with another (new) Epiphone Newport on it’s way, there’ll be 8 here, and that’s enough (of course it is 😒). Happy days.

  10. I probably ( definitely ) don't need another ABM but this one caught my eye recently. Apart from the current 750 EVO 5, i've never seen a Blackface ABM500 head before. I do remember years ago seeing a Whiteface Special Edition version but not the darker variant. Its basically EV0 III internal gubbins from what I can see and has a normal ice blue rear end. S/N 3585. Had had a hard life when I got it. It's been fully restored and all working well and sounding just like umm...an ABM. I never thought i'd like the dark finish but its grown on me. Curious if any BC users have a Blackface or Whiteface special edition ABM, are still using it and can share any history of these editions?

  12. This bass was a project of mine. It started as a standard 425 that I brought new & has since had the lovely design hydro-dipped, vintage tint lacquer on the neck, the fretboard has been dyed to resemble ebony & it's fitted with a hipshot vintage bridge & I've wired it VVT. The weight is approximately 4.3kg (me + bass - me). More photos to come & feel free to ask any questions. Based in the Midlands & I'd prefer local pickup or meetup but I will post at the buyers expense. No trades at the moment.

  13. I recently got a tall font Big Muff to complete my Green Russian set of EHX pedals. I have rarely seen one in such good condition without the paint flaking off, complete with battery hatch and rubber feet. It has the original case which was switched to simpler folded steel box. It's hand numbered inside which is quite rare. It has a really full bottom and and smoother drive than usual. Compared to my Sovtek Deluxe the drive is less fizzy and doesn't really do subtle. Honestly I think the Sovtek Deluxe is a better pedal but I really wanted the original tall font muff in my collection. The only other pedal they did in the green box was the Electric Mistress but apparently only 5 of those were made as prototypes that never went into production. Probably the rarest of all is my Bassballs - again, a handful were made. I love the sound of this pedal and use it a lot. With the sensitivity down it does a great synthy sound which breaks up really nicely when you dig in. It sounds really different from the USA version which is more metallic or something. Anyway here are some pics

  15. Jon Willis (of the Facebook HX Stomp group - some users may be familiar with his tone sharing) has just posted his thoughts on the SGT. To paraphrase "Winner winner chicken dinner" Long form: " This may become a long post. I had the opportunity to spend the weekend gigging with the Ampeg SGT-DI. I ran it into the FX return of my Fender 800 combo with 2x10 extension cabinet. So it was the sound of the Ampeg and the tonal character of the speakers. Blown away. Period. As much fun as I’ve had with the Stomp over the years, it’s been lackluster for me in a LIVE setting. The Ampeg SGTDI gave me everything I required with minimal tweaking. The first gig Friday I used all 6 IR’s that came loaded and I found the 2x10 and 1x15 IRs to be the best sound off the stage. The 8x10 wasn’t what I was hoping for, but I’m going to experiment with a few other 8x10 IRs soon enough… maybe The SVT setting is huge. Almost too huge at times. And honestly I believe that setting really requires the adjustment of the SGT/Grit circuit to make it pop. The B15 is incredibly accurate. Very smooth The onboard Compression is “ok” not what I think of when I need compression. I found it to work much better as a way to take the “attack” off of the note. Very subtle and it’s nice. Since I’m not getting paid by anyone I can say that you’ll want an actual compressor in front of the SGTDI. That being said. In the DAW the compression and SGT circuit were useful to get some great amp sag sounds. Those same settings didn’t translate as well on a stage. Saturday was spent with no IRs and just focusing on the EQ only with no SGT circuit. The pedal does an amazing job at providing massive low mids that really carry a lot of sonic weight, (an area that the Helix and all the other digital platforms seem to fail to reproduce properly). Again the B15 was spectacular and the SVT sounded like an SVT but didn’t “feel” like an SVT. As I stated before, I truly believe the SGT/Grit circuit will make the SVT mode more convincing. Sunday’s gig was spent using no IRs again but utilizing the EQ and SGT circuits. I managed to dial in a B15 tone that was so convincing, I had to turn around a few times to make sure that I didn’t jump into an alternate timeline or something. 😉 IMHO, Low mids are the key to getting a bass tone to sit in a live mix. And the SGTDI has them a plenty. The low cut switch allowed me to remove my trusty Rolls low cut from the FXloop of my amp. Someone at Ampeg figured out the proper slope of the low cut and it worked incredibly well. Overall, the Ampeg SGTDI is a clear winner. Hands down. This week I plan to deep dive into the SGT/Grit control to maximize the full spectrum of the Ampeg. My #1 complaint is that it doesn’t have a tuner. 🤣 Also, if I can get picky, I think a silver and blue edition would be killer. 😉"

  17. A great bass, plays well with a huge array of tones, in very good condition in terms of weight it is 9.5lbs Tuners work fine and hold tuning very well…and electronics work fine, no scratching in the pots, and very quiet overall. just not getting played as I always reach for one of my 5 strings. would prefer the buyer to collect so they can come and check it out, or prepared to consider a meet within 50 miles of Birmingham. £300 without a case but will negotiate to add a fusion gig bag or hiscox case

  18. Musicman Sterling USA This is a lovely MusicMan Sterling bass from 2004 it’s in excellent condition and comes with a basic gig bag. It’s not to be confused with the cheaper models with the confusingly similar name - this is a US made bass of a very high quality. The person I bought it from had it refinished in black as the original gold finish had some damage. The finish is fine but has some scuffs and blemishes. The bass has an incredible neck with a very narrow nut width like a Jazz bass, action is low with lots of life in the frets and a fully working trussrod. The bass weighs under 3.9kgs and is very comfortable for long gigs. All hardware and electrics are original (the eagle eyed will spot it’s wearing a Hipshot D tuner but I will remove that if it sells) and the preamp is very flexible and sounds fantastic. The reason I’m selling is because I’m moving house and need to release some funds, I’m temporarily unable to play bass so I’m selling the basses I’m not sentimentality attached to. At some point I will buy another Sterling but with a maple board. These are fabulous instruments. No trades. UK only. Pickup preferred but I would consider posting at buyer’s expense. If it is still on here it is still available. Price including UK post. No offers.

  20. For sale - no trades, thanks. Beautiful P bass body from Guitarbuild: £180: body only £250: fully loaded (Matt Freeman Squier pickups; KiOgon solderless loom; pickguard; aged bridge, knobs, and screws; tug bar; strap buttons; Fender neck plate; and neck screws) - or message me if you want some of the parts but not all. Collect from Bristol BS3, or +£10 for UK postage. I bought this used, and the original description said: "Hand finished in nitro it has been bleached with Oxalic acid then aniline dyed yellow under the sealer coat as per older 50’s/60’s factory process to give a strong yellow centre. Sunburst then applied over sealer coat with three coats of clear gloss and buffed" There is some (lovely) wear - see photos. The finish will become even more beautiful as it continues to age naturally. Bad bits: The neck pocket has a small slice missing off the G-side corner. This is cosmetic and doesn't affect stability of the neck mount. If the bridge is tightened down a normal amount, the front (i.e. neck side) raises off the body a bit. So I just didn't over tighten it, and the string tension holds it down fine with no problems. The loaded body weighs 2742g on my kitchen scales, so you're looking at a finished bass of about 4kg (depending on the neck and tuners). Any questions, please reply on the thread or send me a private message.

  23. Oh aye. Early 70s - there will be dateable codes under the pickups - the big silver trc says '71/2 or I'll be slightly surprised - mid-70s versions had a small white plastic cover, and proper J type pickups. Very good quality for an early 70s copy, these were made by Fujigen Gakki and are the same instruments as the equivalent Ibanezes, even using the same Fgn factory model numbers - this is a 2365B. Not sure but this might have been refinished - looks like visible laminations on the edges & contours. These were mahogany butcher-block with birch front & back veneers, & usually sunburst. A look in the cavities will confirm or otherwise. The pickups should output the 7-8k or so you'd expect from J units - as far as I know these were used because at the time there weren't accurate copies of Fender pickups available, and these were intended to be hidden under ashtrays anyway. Like all the inaccurate details on early MIJ copies, these were gradually phased out & by the time these stopped being imported (probably 1978 or so) they were close to replica-level. I had a project Antoria a few years back which came with dead pickups - digging around, it looked like Artec mini-humbuckers were very close size-wise & should have been a drop-in replacement. Never found out as a working set of Maxons came up. So if they do sound rubbish there are options!

  26. These Sterling basses are in such an odd place at the moment, price wise. I presume they're not made anymore and as such their used value doesn't appear to have been hugely inflated by the current EB prices, yet they are absolutely equal (and better in a lot of cases I've seen re woods used) to the Stingray of the time in terms of build quality and RRP. In other words, at 3 figures these are a BARGAIN and a dream for anyone who loved the Musicman sound but prefers the jazz feel. GLWTS.

  46. Beautiful Sadowsky RV4 strung with quite new elixirs. Has a ramp put in by Mike Walsh from Zoot basses but this can be removed. Stunning bass, stunning sound. Loved by all the sound engineers I work with and just plays with the snap and zing you expect of Sadowskys. Literally the only reason I'm selling is to buy the PJ version as I need a P for most of my shows. It's nice and light, under 9lbs. Morado (Pau Ferro), Alder body, light sadowsky case, tools. Based near Colchester, Essex. Welcome to come and try it. I do travel with gigs so might be coming your way.
