  2. Wow! I can't top that from down here in Dorset... I won't even try! Anyway, down here in West Bay (Dorset) I'm a member of a committee that arranges several mini-festivals every year to raise money for local good causes. We held our first one yesterday (Pirates' Day) in that one-day nice weather window that made it possible; the fact that we have a vicar on the committee seems to have helped many times - rumour has it that he has a quiet word beforehand with his CEO on our behalf! I look after the band bookings as well as being the treasurer, so I can make sure that everyone gets paid a fair fee on the day. We featured six bands; Nina Garcia (ultra-talented local singer/fiddle-player with backing tracks) Howling at the Moon - Pop-Rock Folk outfit Turnette Doone - Amazing pop/Rock trio (I've never before heard a rocked up version of Andy Williams' 'Can't take my Eyes Off of You' segued with a full Bohemian Rhapsody cover!) Ironhide - very popular metal band from Weymouth Mustang Sally - my lot, 5-piece with soul/pop/rock covers What the Phunk - seven-piece funk outfit So we had two stages, six great sets from 14:00-23:00, many hundreds of punters, raised a lot of money for those good causes nd had a good time. Had the pleasure of meeting a Basschatter in person for the first time - Turnette Doone's Phil, aka Alfie Noakes, so as a thank-you here's a pic of his outfit in action:

  3. Picked up a late cancellation at the world famous Trillians in Newcastle upon Tyne, and managed to fill the place with friends, family and likeminded lovers of southern rock. Safe to say our best gig of the year so far 😎

  4. I too was involved in a coronation garden party performance; a gig at 13:00 at such an event (Charlbury), then off to a rehearsal for a show next week, then to another pub gig (Royal Oak at Ramsden) for a gig at 18:00. If you play in that latter pub and are over 6' tall take care when hurrying out of the bar to the car park; I missed the first two of three sets due to sitting in an ambulance dealing with the head wound obtained from that door frame, having ducked enough for the first one but not for the sneaky second frame just behind it...

  5. **Now Sold** For sale is this stunning Pedulla MVP-4 custom bass guitar. This beautiful bass was lovingly handcrafted in the USA in 1991 by master luthier Michael Pedulla. The bass is completely original except for the strings. The unique and beautiful body shape of the bass allows for excellent balance when playing sitting or standing. The bass is lightweight at only 3.9KG / 8.6lb, so you can easily play longer gigs without having to visit a chiropractor the next day! Included in the sale is the original Pedulla hard case and an original truss rod adjustment tool. As many of you may already know, Michael Pedulla has retired, so no more Pedulla basses are being made. Therefore, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of his incredible instruments while you still can. This bass is now 32 years old, but it has been well cared for over those 32 years. However, it is not a "case queen" and has been played a lot during that time. Therefore, while it is in very good condition for its age, it does have some minor cosmetic flaws that you would expect on any used instrument. These defects include tarnishing of the gold fittings, some dents that have resulted in small chips in the varnish and paint (some of which have been previously stained), cracks in the varnish along the side of the fingerboard. It is important to note that these are not structural defects, but merely minor visual imperfections. Please look closely at the photos to see these minor imperfections - I have carefully photographed the bass to show all of them so you know exactly what you are getting. The reason this bass is not a "case queen" is, of course, because it is an absolute killer bass and you will not want to put it down once you have played it! I am only selling it because I now only play 5-string basses and so this bass needs a new home.

  6. This came out on the used market really cheap. I couldn't resist it. Too cooI! I shielded it and changed the pickups for a pair from a sire bass I had laying around. It came out sounding great! No need the do any other mods to it! The squire pickups mesured 5 ohms and the Sire pickups 7 ohms. I was going the remove the pickups anyway because of the shielding-job. The Squier pickups sounded fine, but were a bit weak. The tuners were supriseingly good. They're no hipshots, but i'd use them live.

  10. Well, we did a local coronation party yesterday. I think it would have been better if we had gone on at 6 rather than 8, as by 8 a lot of people from the afternoon had gone, but the main issue is that by 9:30 it was dark, I only have a couple of little lights to light up the area, and we were playing to an area of blackness. We knew the crowd were out there, as they clapped etc, but we couldn't see them. After a few songs in the second half we turned one light to the audience, so at least we could see their shadowy figures and tell that they were dancing, but it was kind of weird. It was getting a bit chilly towards the end though, but not complaining as both saturday and monday would have been much worse, at least it was dry and warmer. A local event over the hill had fireworks that managed to sync nicely with one of our songs Afterwards we had lots of nice comments and people seemed happy.

  11. *** NOW SOLD *** Hi Folks, Bass Collection Power Bass for sale in excellent condition. £SOLD or very near offer. As stated above, the bass is in 'as new' condition, has a nice low action so is super-playable, the electronics are all fine, the truss rod is working perfectly, and it's a very lightweight bass. Comes with a Pro Tec gig bag Most important of all, it sounds exactly like a P Bass should! Bought 2 years ago from @greyparrot for a recording project but that's finished now, hence why it's up for sale And to be honest, if I hadn't recently bought a 50s reissue P Bass on here, I'd probably be keeping this as it's so easy to play, sounds great and looks fantastic IMO, but such is life here on Basschat, even for super-pretty basses like this one! 😁 Collection or meet up preferred within 50 miles of Potton, Central Bedfordshire. And of course, trials very welcome here with your or my bass amps/cabs. Kettle very much set to 'on' position... Any questions, please ask away here or please send me a PM. Thanks for looking.. 😊 Nik

  12. Amazing looking and playing 62 Epiphone Rivoli, has been refinished and relic'd in gold (with lots of interesting craquelure) by a well-established pro refinisher in Yorkshire, I was told their name but I've forgotten! Bought from Rich Tone Music, their original advert is here: https://richtonemusic.co.uk/epiphone-rivoli-bass-1962-refinished-gold-top-hard-case-2nd-hand/ In really good condition, frets are great and I think all the electronics are original. Has had strap locks fitted and a modern repro scratchplate but other than that and the finish, I think it's all original. Plays and sounds incredible, and hard to find, certainly for this price. Much more versatile than most people give them credit for and supremely cool. Selling for what I paid for it, I just need the space and already have an EB2... 4.2kg Comes with modern Epiphone case. Can be collected from high Wycombe or possibly central London, or I can post to mainland UK for £30. More pics available, having trouble uploading just now.

  13. You’re reading far too much into my response; I wasn’t complaining at all (this isn’t Gearspace😆). Merely stating that I was aware that it wasn’t a new concept and I wanted to post it despite that. I saw it, thought it was interesting and that others might be interested in it too. Nothing more, nothing less.

  14. Having recently purchased a new TH700 head I played this with my Ampeg SVT212AV cab later adding the SVT112AV to run both ( 2.67ohms ) which the Tonehammer can handle. Gigged it last night and I was very pleased with the result as it was one of the nicest sounding rigs I’ve owned. Very tube like in tone but without the head weight. Powerful deep and warm sound with clarity. This will most likely mean my Ashdown ABM600 will be up for sale soon. It really is that good !

  15. Hi everyone. This is For Sale Only, no Trades thanks. Close offers considered. Here’s my Maruszczyk Elwood Absolution 5a ( a is for Active preamp, Glockenklang 2 Band and passive too.) Haussel single coil pickups. Maruszczyk gig bag included. ( Maruszczyk basses are designed in Germany , made in Poland and are well documented as being great value for high end quality of construction and finish. See their site public-peace.de ) All original. It was made in 2014 ( Sn: 140119) , then stocked at gornymusic.ch in 2015 and I bought it new in Nov 2017 from them in Zurich. A Maruszczyk dealership run by the very helpful Bartek Gorny. This bass is as I bought it new and with my minimal use my price reflects this.No scuffs or swirls ,blemishes, marks, chips or scratches. Battery checked today and still 9.4v. Only used in my home and with my bass collection that means it’s not been played that much. A great sounding and versatile jazz bass with Haeussel ( often Haussel) pickups and a super clear sounding Glockenklang 2 band pre. Push pull vol control for active / passive , Blend, Bass and the treble is the passive tone control. The pickups have no single coil hum issues , even on headphones and my Noise Gate pedal isn’t required for home playing. I don’t record. A really broad pallet of sounds from the EQ and the Tone control ( Treble knob ) range is all useful with no large drop in volume when pulling the Vol from active to passive mode. Selling to pay towards another bass already bought. After over 5 years of enjoyment (but limited playing time) with this beauty someone else can enjoy it. This Absolution 5a really is beautiful with the blue flame maple everywhere. What a neck ! ( very comfortable ) and the MOPearl block inlays look like they’re illuminated when they catch the light. Gloss finish all over including neck. It’s a premium model with Master Luthier Syfon’s signature on the headstock. A nod to him which I like. You can see this actual bass on the gornymusic.ch site under the “Sold Instruments Gallery”tab. See the next link below. Zoom in on the headstock rear tip there and you’ll see the SN:140119 of my bass. Below those bass images in the link is a demo using Delano pickups instead of my haussel but it does have the Glockenklang 2 Band and it’s not far off my bass’s sound. ( They messed up on the Gorny website by the way, so the spec says Delano pickups for my bass instead of the Haussel JB 5s.) gornymusic.ch - Sold Instruments gallery - maruszczyk elwood absolution blue burst + video Below is an Adrian Maruszczyk demo with Haeussel pups and a Delano Sonar pre which sounds less warm/rich than with my Glockenklang 2 band and doesn’t utilise the bass pot much from what I hear. I have Glock preamps on other basses and they bring out the best in pickups. eg Glock 3 band on my Schecter Damien Elite 5 transformed the sound of the EMG HZ passive humbuckers which were poor with an emg B64 pre, really feeble. Copied some gornymusic photos of my bass and some of my own taken the other day. The shade of blue you see is as close to how the bass looks as I could get it. ( I had to Edit the colour my ipad camera picked up Toned it down 🤓. Used the Blues control. etc etc 🙄 ) The body edge is black/ v dark blue. Looks silver on the Gorny site, reflections I presume. Other Info. Comfortable contouring of the body rear. The pearl binding really is stunning. Fretboard top edge black dot markers too. Weight :4.8kg , just under, so 10lbs 9oz , fair do’s for a solid Fiver. Alder body, flamed maple front and back. The whole balance of the bass is Superb. Standing with my wide bass strap on , no hands, the neck is about 20 deg up, all ready to play. Consequently it doesn’t feel like a 4.8kg Fiver. Scale: 34 inch. The B string does it’s job very well. Strings: Spacing 18mm at bridge. Same strings as when I got it but the Glockenklang pre has enough to add to keep them sounding alive enough! Brass ends and blue silk tapers , not sure what they are. Best that you change to your own in other words and nowadays I prefer a 125 B string. 130 is on it. Nice chunky string retainer with slots. Monorail type bridge: Two allen keys included. Virtually no relief in the neck and saddles are right down currently for 2mm at 12th BEA and 1.7mm for the DG. Nut width ( See Zero fret photo) :45mm Looks like Graphtech but can’t find material listed anywhere. 12th fret 66mm 15th 70mm 21 Frets. No wear. Lovely smooth Ebony fretboard. Large radius prob 18 inch as it’s their largest option on the Maruszczyk Configurator. The Glockenklang ( made to M specs) controls feel great, turn smoothly with a nice feel ,sumptuous ?! to the detents too (apart from Vol control as usual). Very versatile pre which doesn’t cloud the openness of the Haussel pups. Maruszczyk thick padded gig bag included and I’ll pack well ,surrounding it with large bubble wrap and cardboard end packing. Delivery within UK included and fully insured. Thanks for looking. Why not make me a sensible offer? Quent

  18. Hi, I am Viperpunk and I never know what to write in those introductions. I am a proud owner of a "cheapo bass" Cort Action plus in transparent red, and it is the most beautiful and amazing thing in the world and I am going to die on this hill! lol As you can see, I am not objective here, because I fell in love. I can't be held accountable, love has it's own rules. But seriously I am surprised how much I like it. It is not what I wanted, it is what I had to settle for. I am sort of an Ibanez psychofan and as my first bass I wanted Ibanez SR 300 in iron pewter ( I know, everyone's and their dog first bass, I swear I made that decision before knowing that though) however after almost two years of saving and watching the price go higher and higher, I decided I need to revise my options or I'll be just saving for the rest of my life and never actually have anything. And that is how the Cort happened. I was worried I will be dissapointed just because it is not "the one" and doesn't have humbackers, but no such thing. It turned out to be so much nicer than I expected. I am genuenly in love. I know it is nothing to write home about and everyone here will probably laugh, but it is mine, it plays and it is beautifull to me and that is all that counts. I can't say that I play, more like I attempt to play for best part of three days now and I am terrible at it but I'm having the time of my life. I wanted to play bass for forever (well first I wanted to play violin, 6 year old's are weird like that) but as a teenager I for some reason decided that I am too stupid for this whole music thing and shouldn't even try anymore. I used to have keybord but as my parents couldn't afford private lessons for me, I failed at figuering this all out on my own from the books (the pre-internet times we are talking about here) and so since a 12 year old couldn't understand music theory and learn to be a virtuozo on its own that clearly meant too stupid and never will get to anything. Teenagers are touchy I suppose. Anyway I just settled, made my peace with the fact I will never play myself and be always just enjoying music from the sidelines and ruining my hearing by standing as close to the bass amp at concerts as possible and never even thought about this again. For some reason I bought this whole "you are bad at maths so you can't learn music" ... I can count to four though. There is many musicians with discalculia as far as I know. Anyway I suddenly woke up about two years ago and realized it is all not true. Sure I probably will never be good at it but that doesn't mean I can't try and have fun with it. Times have changed and with all this resources avilable now, where we can actually hear and see what is being taught it should be easier than trying to make sense out of a book. Not to mention I am quite a bit older now and more patient. So this is how I got here, after almost two years of planning hopeing and salivating I am finally doing it, making my childhood dreams come true! And you know what makes me the most happy? My dad ( I put his age here initially but maybe I should not expose him like that) seems to be interested too, at first he said I'm crazy but three days in, he is already telling me I need to get number stickers for the fretboard because he gets lost and needs them numbered... HE gets lost... I don't seem to have a problem for some odd reason lol I don't mind getting stickers if it will make him want to play more. I am happy to share, we will see who learns faster I guess. OK, how is that for "about me"? You probably got the most important thing - I talk too much! Happy to meet everyone! I hope you don't mind an overexcited noob around here.

  19. Hi everybody. Price already reduced but make me a close offer and UK delivery and new basic gig bag included. For sale only, my Spector Legend NT ,Neck Thru 4.( Not to be confused with Legend bolt on models ) Carved Maple NS design body with a beautiful Bubinga top , walnut stained , with a classy matte finish to body and neck. Mint Condition. No blemishes. ** Adhesive Spector style crowns cover the original pearl dots ** Now REDUCED to £700 Option with original black tuners and knobs or £750 with the new gold Gotoh GB707 tuners ( and all the metal knobs have dot indicators.) I can remove the crown markers. ( see RRP £1229 2015 in review below). Serial Number W160029 (2016). Bought preowned from The Music Centre, Tavistock Street, Bedford in “ as new “ condition. Manager Ross sold it new from there in 2018 to a guitarist just trying out at playing bass but he hardly played it apparently so returned it to the same shop in 2020. I then bought it 15/12/2020 and have only played it at home and not that often because I have a few basses to rotate luckily. Close body pics show a faint surface streak catching the light ,above fretboard end , which simply cleaned off with my Nomad matte finish detailer. Selling to fund a higher end Spector now that I’m hooked on them, thanks to this one being so impressive, responsive and easy to play. An extravagance on my part really because this bass ticks most of the boxes of certainly the Czech models (like my Euro 5LX) and they’re close to the US ones from the Spector forum opinion on here. ( Well worth a read !! and a wealth of knowledge there too.) This model was launched 2015 and you can see the specs in the notreble.com link below which mentions the Bubinga top. (Grain runs along length of body) Spector Introduces Legend Neck-Thru Basses for 2015 – No Treble If the link doesn’t work, search “ notreble spector introduces legend neck-thru basses 2015 “ There’s another detailed review below (2017) from Music Radar.(RRP £1229 even back then ) a year on from mine they put quilted maple tops on. There was an ex display one , blue fade 2017 at BDir for £1499. So, for my totally mint example of this quite rarely offered bass it is priced fairly IMO. I’m in no rush anyway but a close offer will do the trick no doubt. Spector Legend 4 review | MusicRadar The 3 piece maple Thru Neck has 2 graphite reinforcement rods alongside the truss rod so combined with the maple body it gives this bass optimal resonance and playing characteristics for a modern, versatile sound spectrum. Rock-solid tuning is provided by the Spector Locking Bridge in combination with precise die-cast tuners. Active Aguilar OBP2 2-band tone controls and Aguilar DCB ( Dual Ceramic Bar ) pick-ups allow for a versatile range of possible tones and plenty of punch. Vol Vol and the Bass Treble have centre detents. The dark Rosewood fingerboard is 16” radius has 24 frets ( no wear) and a 40mm Brass nut to make the strings sing. The contoured body is very comfortably against the player and the neck profile ensures easy playing. Set with minimal neck relief. 18mm string spacing at the bridge. Strung with new Rotosound RB50s 110 90 70 50 nickel plated steels (when I got it ) and they still sound lively to me. I wouldn’t go that large myself but they do seem to suit this bass. Feel and sound great and no extra effort needed. Not much winding on the E and A post ( gold larger diam than black posts) but it stays in tune. You’ll have your own preference for strings no doubt but worth knowing what’s on it first. I’d use those again if I was keeping it. The matte finish feels grrrreat on neck AND the body too. Something about it ! Heavy duty standard Spector bridge with saddle locking screws each side. Weight is 4.4 kg , 9lbs 11oz on my accurate digital scales so not light weight due to the maple body but in this case the benefit is the distinctive tone and sustain achieved and it’s nicely balanced standing with neck about 20 deg upwards. Videos below from Youtube to give you an idea. (5 string version of my bass) The demos don’t cover the full range of the EQ. Thanks for looking. 20. I did it! 😁 I loosened the truss rod. Everything is fine, no one died. I don't know why I was so worried 😆 No casualties unless you count ages it took me to tune the strings back, that time will never be recovered. The quality of life improvement... Oh my! Massive! I almost feel like I'm cheating now, it's hard to get buzz! Well not really but considering the difference it is great. And I didn't even listen to it amplified after surgery yet (yes I know bad practice for a noob to play acustically, I was very bad today). A bit more loosening will probably be good at some point but I am happy for now and will leave it alone. Unless it will get worse after it settles. Thanks everyone for all the help I got here! I get you! I totally get that and love that kind of tone as well. It didn't work for me though, neither playing hard or the tone. My headphone device probably not capable to do that. Maybe in the future when I build up my strength and gear 😆 (I swear I forgot how to write in english in only five years. Use it or lose it I guess)

  25. I fear I may have misinterpreted your remark as snarky, my apologies for doing so and sorry for the less than constructive response to that perceived snarkiness. Having looked at the vid and website again, it certainly is different and pretty nifty but I can't really get along with the execution. Like I said before, I really don't like the visible wire to the pickup on the outside. It doesn't look like it's going to work for people (like me) who rest their thumb on the pickup when playing the E string. The headstock is not great - very anonymous and why do it in such a way that the strings have to go at such angles after the nut? The whole thing just looks a bit "prototype-y" and unfinished while also looking like a lot of work has gone into it - does that make any sense?

  29. Small venue? Your amp alone ought to be fine - what amp is it (speaker size, power)? Sometimes I take the DI out from the amp and put it through the PA, but it's at a low level and just for a bit of "width". The majority of the bass comes from my amp.

  30. When I started playing bass I had no amp and my bass was fitted with flats. So if I didn't play really hard, I wouldn't hear myself. As a result I got nasty blisters on my fingers. Covid meant that the gigs dried up and after a couple of years of not playing I worried that I'd get blisters when I started to get back to gigging. My solution was to turn my amp up loud and play softly. I recommend you do the same. Turn your amp up way louder than you need to and it will force you to play softer. Result...... no blisters.

  32. The last time I used this skateboard I fell off it while trying to get a beer from the fridge. On the basis my skateboarding days are long gone (by several decades) I've decided to turn it into a pedalboard instead. Doorstops on the bottom give enough clearance to fix a psu underneath and I love the flamingo art work. Not the flatest board in world and the pedals are a bit wonky as a result, but I quite like the idea of skate/pedalboard. My fav 5 pedals of the moment, the surprise being the grape phaser which is almost on permanently.

  33. Friday night at The Old Star, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, with Night Shift the covers band. The pub has a nicely set-up stage with plenty of power sockets and lights in-situ. The disadvantage is that it’s in an outside courtyard area which means it can get chilly plus there’s a 10.30 noise curfew to keep the neighbours sweet. We went down well, with plenty of good feedback even though the hard-drinking audience were slow to get going. On the photo you can’t see the left-side guitarist’s instrument. He has a lovely Vigier that he’s totally obsessed with keeping in mint condition. The only time it comes out if its hard case is when he’s going to play. Between sets - back in the case. I dread to think what he’s going to be like when it gets the, inevitable, first ding.

BASS HAS BEEN SETUP AND FRETS CROWNED TO PERFECTION NOW THAT THE WOOD IS SETTLED. Selling it for a firm £1700, same as it cost me to have it as is (setup work and crowning was paid on top of the £1700). Notice this bass would be about £3400 to build today... 39. Nice to meet you, and yea, it's never too late to do what your heart desires! Most of my achievements came later in life. I'm so pleased you're doing what makes you happy. Very cool that your dad is also learning to play. I'm another one who knows nothing about music theory, but it didn't stop me from using a keyboard for some of my songs, I just had to play the melody by memory instead. A lot of us have taught ourselves guitar. There are so many tutorials on the internet, but I'm sure you'll find your own path. Wishing you all the best!

  40. Whilst the Dwarf is really sturdy and suits my needs for a multil f/x box (I can use input1 for my bass, input2 for another band members guitar/ukulele and generate a drum track using its midi and drum synth plugins) I see what you mean about the fx loop. It is possible (as I think was mentioned elsewhere) to use Bass->Input1->Internal Signal Chain A->Output1->external f/x chain->Input2->Internal Signal Chain B->Output2->Amp(etc), it would be very nice to have one or two dedicated f/x loops like the GT-100 core or even the single send/return of the HX Stomp. Having said that, I don't have any seperate pedals ... ALL of my f/x run in the Dwarf, so my pedalboard is tiny! And using the AIDA-X neural modelling plugin I hope to be able to drop in models of some of the external pedals that I might want ... an octaver that tracks really low notes being an example. 41. Is it now? Because I felt bad and made an actual introduction post, it is even worse than this one lol I know hard to believe. As for allen keys, the bass came with some I am assuming they are the right size and in a pinch would do, but my dad already flexed on me by pulling out his huge set of allen keys of all sizes. A weird flex but ok, now watch me "borrow" some. I have no idea why he had them in the first place, flatpack furniture I assume but is he furnishing a whole city? No one knows. Thank you very much for all of the input and good advice, you can't imagine how calming it is to actually talk about this to someone and get a replay as opposed to just ... being confused and going back and forth "am I crazy or not". So it seems I did recognize the problem correctly, a tiny bit proud of myself (not really). Now to tackle it. I'll work on this tomorrow, and by that I mean I'll probably just sit on it for days and obsess some more but that is okay, I feel like I know what needs to be done now. Thank you very much everyone!

  42. That colour is fantastic. Also unusual to see a bass with a flame on the back

  43. I must have been listening to that track and Chuck Rainey's bass line for nigh on forty years. That isolated bass part confirms what I had already suspected, essentially that it sounds difficult to play, but in reality it's even harder than I thought it was.
