I'm selling my natural finish American Elite Jazz V. The bass does come with all original case candy along with the hardcase, can provide pics if required. Looking for £1,450.00 and collection only. Will meet within reasonable distance of SO31 post code. Sadly I'm no longer gigging or rehearsing half as much as I used to with new job life and, wedding planning! The bass is in great condition and sounds utterly fantastic. The neck is true and straight with no string rattle or buzz. The frets are brilliant under the fingers. The truss rod operates nice and smooth, especially with the modern wheel they introduced on this model! The EQ options and tone shaping are superb, really excels at being a single use bass, covered me on my function sets. There's a small ding in the back of the top cut out on the backside, so barely noticeable! So help a bass brother out and buy this utterly incredible bass! Played a very nice large social club on the outskirts of Harrogate last night. As we walked in the consec explained that the clientele were a bit jaded with live music as the previous consec had cycled only 5/6 bands so he was taking a punt with us having just spotted us online. He also said it might be a bit thin on the ground but if we’re lucky we might get a few dancers. …….anyway the word must have got out as the place was rammed with punters many in 70s glam dress and the dance floor was full from half way into the first spot. Just goes to show that some thought can really make a difference in some of these trad social clubs. Glam Fever, proudly bringing glam rock to the masses since 2015.8 points

A good one tonight once again in the Forest of Dean. The band was really tight and we played really well. As always an appreciative and vocal crowd at a place we've played several times now and have been invited back again later this year. I used the Spector Bantam all night and for the first time in a long while had no aches or pains from my hip or back which was a huge bonus for me, especially after well over two hours of playing.6 points

I begun playing the bass about 49 years ago. Made my living with it from age of 17. Today I feel I am better musician than ever. With experience I have matured, playing less but with more understanding about what really serves the music. I am accompanying, not showcasing my chops. Even my tecnique is better since I don’t panic facing difficult tasks and my experience and knowledge about practising helps Me to survive.6 points

Today was fun. I was on FOH sound, for a band comprising 4 vox, keys, acoustic rhythm guitar, violin and drums. At the practice on Friday the WL asked if I could play bass on Oceans, as it needed depth (his pun!). Two options, play from the back, or set up on stage and take the iPad to do the mix from there. Our services are now quite free-flowing, so I opted to stay at the desk where I could see and hear everything. Come the song, the first line was just the vocals then I came in on the second line with the low B, C#, D. Which sounded great, but confused at least some of the congregation who wondered where the bass was coming from. 😁 Happy Pentecost Sunday everyone!5 points

We were lucky enough to headline the John Bonham 75th birthday memorial event in his hometown of Redditch last night. There was a great crowd and a really good set of bands playing, not to mention that I got to play through the usual hire-in rig of a SVT4 & fridge, which I don't get to do too often these days. All great fun...5 points

The Steinberger tuners are pretty easy to fit, although this little pin hole does have to be in the right place! And tuners temporarily fitted for me to be able to set up a couple of strings to position and line up the tune-o-matic bridge before the scary insert marking and drilling! Still some more curve carving to do, but I was pleased how this is beginning to look:5 points

Almost perfect yesterday, we had a late afternoon slot at a small festival in Harpenden. Great weather, we played well, the crowd liked us, saw some good bands before and after our set and saw the mighty Hatters win the Championship playoff on the pub TV! And I got paid too! the only downside is our singer is pregnant so this will be our last gig for a while.5 points

I think sometimes it’s down to people not appreciating that you’ve took the time out to help, it’s easy to walk on by but nice to help, I’ve had PM’s thanking me for helping on occasions, which is nice, don’t change what you’re doing Dave 👍5 points

Also, a word to the wise; while it isn't the be-all-and-end-all, most folk who know what's what over here (surprisingly few TBH) shop online at Soundhouse, especially for strings, accessories etc. Here's a link to their current Fender bass inventory. Not able to comment on how local prices stack up against international prices but for new gear over here this is the go-to place for (generally) lowest prices. https://www.soundhouse.co.jp/search/index?search_all=FENDER Bass&i_type=s&suggest=y Hope this is of use, or of interest at least.5 points

... and last of the cull! I took this in part trade but I do have the Precision bass box filled. Fantastic bass, I have to say I wasn't expecting it!? These basses are nice. Jazz neck Usual alder/maple/rosewood Pretty versatile pickup, volume + tone Labella flats that do feel in really good shape 3.15KG?! There's the lightest swirl/blemish on the upper horn that DOES NOT REVEAL WOOD - I would say pretty light and can't see it from the front, not really apparent on the side either - tried in pictures but the thing is proper glossy! Very well finished and adjusted, I would definitely say Dakota Red against Fiesta Red but you can be the judge - comes with Sandberg Gigbag. Would love to keep but I need cash my way (could maaaaybe consider a bitsa J??) or preferably a JMJ, preferably blue - I'm sorted for amps cabs pedals etc.4 points

Despite all the questionable looking sales on eBay Japan generally runs on Yahoo auctions and Mercari. Quite sure that they're easily located but I'll bung some links up shortly just in case. Search terms are probably okay in English but feel free to cut and paste ベース (bass) and フェンダー (Fender). These are worth checking from time to time. I'm assuming that most sales are going to run inside Japan only, but should anyone find something that looks promising please PM me and I'll be glad to translate, advise and, if req'd, help out with possible transactions. This is posted as a friendly, not as a touting-for-business thing by the way, just in case I'm unwittingly contravening a BC bye-law 😉4 points

I bought this in January this year. It's a wonderful bass. The neck is super smooth and from what I've read this is the upgrade to the original Metro models. Ive never used it live and it's never left its case or the house. You will see the original shrink wrap still on the control plate. This clip gives you all the info you will ever need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15WCG7cZtV4 Roger Sadowsky's goal was always to improve an already very successful bass design by making several detailed improvements. Along with the electronics, which he developed by himself, he succeeded in raising the well-known J bass sound to a new level, so today you can speak of a typical Sadowsky tone: Never harsh or shrill sounding, with strong, powerful but never muddy bass, with present, but not too aggressive mids, and a sweet and airy treble range. All features of this modern bass sound can also be found in the 21-Fret J basses of the MetroExpress series. •Sadowsky MetroExpress 21-Fret Hybrid P/J Bass • right-hand version •4-string electric bass •34" (864 mm) long scale •bolt-on construction •Okume body •Maple neck •Morado (Pau Ferro) fingerboard •12" fingerboard radius •Sadowsky Just-A-Nut III nut •1.5" (38.5 mm) nut width •21 nickel silver frets (width: 0.094" (2.4 mm) / height: 0.051" (1.3 mm)) •passive Sadowsky J-Style pickup (neck) •passive Sadowsky J-Style pickup (bridge) •active Sadowsky 2-way electronics •controls for Volume / Balance / Treble / Bass •Sadowsky Light machine heads with open gear •string spacing 2.36" (60 mm) •Sadowsky S-style security locks •Sadowsky bridge with quick string release •chrome hardware •stainless steel 045 - 105 strings •Solid Sage Green Metallic High Polish finish •incl. hex key tools •incl. Sadowsky Portabag (SAC BAG BASS PORTA) Gig Bag Comes with an incredible Sadowsky gig bag. Happy to discuss delivery to the UK address and happy to meet up locally to Birmingham3 points

So, I just moved back to London after 20 years in the US, where I acquired a 1963 Ampeg B15N and a 1965 Ampeg SB12, both original but both updated to new caps, and three wire power leads for safety. They are still 110V, but work fine here with a step-down transformer. I don't gig anymore so want to sell one of these to make some room. I used to use the SB12 for small coffee room/lounge gigs where it was plenty loud enough and with that classic Ampeg tube tone. The B15N was used on a few studio sessions and a handful of larger gigs where I split to a DI for house, but needed some stage volume. My main rig is a B-Amp with Barefaced ST12. Anyways, I am torn which one to keep, and on searching the internet don't see much history for sales of these here in the UK. Does anyone have any idea of pricing or demand for these? Either they are super rare in the UK, or nobody is interested. I'll be taking photos in the next few days and will post one to the classifieds, but would be interested in comments on value and which one to keep. First world problems eh? cheers all3 points

I agree that there is something special about a B15. I just love the tone of my B15NF which I use as my practice amp. It makes practice time a pleasure. Mine is in better condition than the one in the link that Bill posted. In your place I would keep the 15" unit as you never know when the urge to play will grab you again. I do hope that the external transformer that you use is rated high enough to operate the amp safely.3 points

Up for sale my ~2002/2008/2023 ABM 500 EVO. Why the three dates? First built in 2002 using a power amp from 1999, it managed just about 21 years exactly before the power amp MOSFETs decided they’d had enough. So it has recently been into Ashdown for open heart surgery and now sports an NOS EVO II bipolar transistor power amp from 2008 and brand new fans. Plus it had a general health check and clean up of course. I’m looking for £250 ono delivered to mainland UK. Comes with mains lead, amps are fuses and the Ashdown slip cover. Collection £25 cheaper. Possibly stupid timing for the ad as I’m not around from Tuesday 30th May til Sunday 4th June, but wanted to get it out there sooner rather than later3 points

I have a few 'signatures' but mainly because they are great basses that you can't buy in other guises. Epiphone Jack Casady, as already mentioned it's the sensible way to own a Gibson Les Paul bass. A Yamaha Attitude, a Precision but so much more. A Yamaha BBPH, the sensible way to own a BB1200s. Actually more of an amalgamation of a 1200s and a 734a. An Eastwood Hooky Pro 6, the sensible way to own a Shergold Marathon 6. It helps that I'm a fan of Hooky, and although I totally appreciate Casady and Sheehan's music I'm not exactly fanboi enough to buy a bass just for the sake of it. All four of these basses are fantastic instruments in their own right and unavailable to buy as a non signature model or anything close by any other manufacturer. Ironically very few people outside of the bass world would link these basses to their signature players, yet pick up any generic violin bass by any manufacturer and people will say McCartney. Play what makes you happy regardless of the reasons.3 points

Was just wondering why/how he has gone unstopped for so long, and realised that perhaps the clue's in the surname 🤔 And with reference to this, and all joking aside @hiram.k.hackenbacker advice, and especially 'alleged' needs to be noted. Anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands is, ironically I know, breaking the law and potentially far more serious laws than Mason has broken to date. This guy hasn't been nicked because he's probably got all sorts of alibis/excuses/mitigations (and potentially a few friends in other places.....), a mob showing up on Saturday - one that are clearly the protagonists with an internet site clearly publicising their intention - gives the Police little choice and sufficient evidence. He might even contact the Police and tell them that you are making threats with reference to a specific time and place anyway, he will know the inside-outs of the law in these situations quite well I expect, and it appears he really is that slippery. And of course, he might have more mates with him than you can take with you, and he will no doubt be filming the whole thing to prove his innocence. There really are cleverer ways of getting this guy 🤔3 points

For the tuners, I am using the wonderful Steinberger gearless 'banjo' tuners. Remarkably, the Epiphone Firebirds - for a short period of time - had these fitted as standard! I reckon, if you could find one on ebay, you could take the tuners off and sell the tuners at a hefty profit! One of the splendid things about them is that they are cylindrical and strings are clamped dead centre and so they can be grouped very much closer together than standard tuners - to the point that I won't have to add 'wings' to the headstock. Keeping all the string runs straight, this is what I came up with: And, to keep the body vibe, I wondered if I could do a cutaway plate, something like this. BTW, you can see here I had already popped a couple of ebony sides on in the expectation of needing small maple extensions...which I now realise I don't need : So, with a piece of the offcut from the body ebony, I gave it a try. Before gluing the plate on, in addition to backing it with a maple and black veneer, I cut the trussrod access out of the plate. It will be magnetically held as a flush cover and thus be pretty unobtrusive. Here it is out: ...and here it is in place: Next jobs include, a little more body carving, temp-fitting the tuners, fitting the T-o-M and stoptail, stringing up, 'live' shaping of the neck next time Alex is free.3 points

Separation is the best method. Personally, I like to keep at least 50 miles from me and wherever Gene Simmons might be playing... That said, over-ear ones are much, much better. There are plenty available in loads of different styles. I used to favour Peltor, but other makes are available (avoid the really cheap ones). If you do go for plugs, avoid the foam ones and get something with a loop, cable, or other way of extracting just in case they get pushed too far in. Having said all that, it's a Kiss concert, they'll probably confiscate whatever you take and make you buy their official "Kiss your ears better" versions! 🤣3 points

Hello! I’ve got my lovely Dingwall NG3 5 String that I’m contemplating parting with. It’s so lovely and great to play, but it simply lives in its case at the moment and I hate having basses I just don’t use. In great condition, no dings, just a few light play marks and a little wear on the frets of the low B around 5-7th fret. Doesn’t affect play or sound and just needs a polish and crown. Can possibly include the Dingwall Branded Hard Case depending on what’s on offer. Open to possible trades, let me know what you have, I like short scales and 4 strings at the moment. I’ll update this with the correct weight later on but it’s very light for a 5 string.3 points

( PS Can't remove that £2500 header price, so just ignore ) Mesa Diesel 2x15 Cab, EV 15" speakers, one is replacement. Very clean, NOT ex-rental stock, like many of them. £350, now £250 Mesa 1x12 cab, bought as spare, so very little use. However, while it looks similar, it is NOT the lightweight Subway one ! £250 now £199 Mesa 2 x 10 fabulous sounding cab. Again, not the lightweight version. £199 Apologies, but there can be no shipping on any of this, just not practical. Everything can be viewed, tried and tested in West Sussex. Will get pics up, hopefully next week. (see below ) Mike.2 points

Finally, after weeks of getting parts, painting, paying too much, i finally have my dream P bass! This is i guess a bitsa, but just about every bit is fender. I went with an allparts bridge as i wanted nickel and the body isnt a fender because i hate those crazy swimming pool routs they do! I also did schaller tuners as they were reversible. Tugbar ordered but not here yet. I think it sounds perfect! So pleased! I guess I'll try and get some recordings, but i freeze up when i try and record myself! I do have a build thread here if you want to see what went into this2 points

If the fret slots are being cut before fitting to the neck, then yes. And if the frets themselves are going to be fitted before gluing to the neck, then especially yes Just to explain: Fretboard glued before slotting - structurally, the board can be as thin as you like because the neck provides the structural integrity Fretboard glued after slotting but before frets are fitted - then the extra thickness below the bottom of the slot is only needed to hold it all together while you handle and clamp it. It depends on the wood, but down to 1mm remaining after the fret slots have been cut would normally suffice. If the frets are fitted before the fretboard is glued to the neck, then it needs a bit more remaining thickness...but the exact amount is a bit of a judgement call. Here, the remaining thickness needs to withstand the side forces (and if hammering, percussive shock) that hammering or pressing in the frets makes. I would personally tend towards 2mm remaining at the bottom of the slot. So, and this is only my own view - for a flat board - given a tang slot depth of, say, 2.5mm, then I would be considering 3.5mm as the absolute minimum if I was fretting after gluing to the neck, and 4.5mm as the absolute minimum if I was fretting before gluing to the neck. In terms of radiused necks, I personally aim for 6mm-7mm at the thickest point, depending on the radius. Other folks may have different and valid views and experiences, of course2 points

If you really wanted a Fender Japan bass, then why not go to Japan to get one? Not only will you get to try before you buy (a prerequisite for any Fender bass IMO), you be able to go to the shops that won’t deal with “weird foreigners” on line, plus you get a holiday in Japan.2 points

I use in ear ones by “Alpine”. PMT sell them. They have three layers of attenuation which you select by choice of insert - I use the middle one. They seem to attenuate the loud noises but leave lower levels alone. So at pub gigs I can hear conversations fine, but don’t have my ears ringing the next morning because the music has been ridiculously loud. At Jam Night I wear them the whole night, even when playing. They are joined by a chord: I thought this was handy for wearing, but note one of the above contributors thinks it may also be a safety benefit.2 points
