  1. Hey gang! I'll start by saying I've often been a bass brand snob, but life has taught me there's more than gear that I need money for, and recently I've gone around selling lots of stuff and downsizing. For context, it's been rare to see me buy a bass of less than £1k so this is a nice turn of events - and boy I've been missing out...! Recently I came across a Fender Precision MIM in Lake Placid Blue for £450 that I modded for just some bits and trades and now I have a very very very killer/competent bass with the EMG GZR P for about £520 net... After the cull and sorting money for some projects, wife invited me to 'keep the change and buy yourself something nice' - of course, it was gonna be a bass... I've just ordered it this morning so I'm hoping that forum will help me whilst I spend the week looking out the window - the reward? Pictures and a review of the Sire V5R in Mild Green (2nd Gen). It's in budget and didn't want to wait around or drive to collect etc, £399 free shipped via Thomann. I'm a sucker for pastel colours and even if I already have this on my Stingray, I was more interested in this combo rather than Natural/Sunburst. Having a Stingray and a Precision it made sense to get a Jazz for my 3rd wall hanger, and I'm set to myth bust that 'Sire is as good as MIA Fender / Better than MIM Fender' that I've been hearing for so long . Not expecting a miracle, just something to compliment the tones and playability of the Precision on stage whilst the Stingray covers all the recording ground and nice/safe gigs. I've not seen a lot about this particular bass, but rosewood fingerboard with blocks & bound, alongside passive electronics and roasted neck... Yep, way to go. Again, rosewood is the only board of interest I didn't have as the precision is maple and the stingray is ebony... ...I just wanted to invite folk to share their comments on this bass, positives? negatives? Picture for interest:

  2. Ladies and gentlemen, the venue and promotors apologise for the sightly late start. This was due to the band ensuring their support act had a proper sound check.

  3. Latest setup. I briefly was using a nano+ with a few extra pedals however I've decided to go go back to basics. This is a cheapo case off amazon (think it's a case for a Canon printer) and the board is a bit of flooring painted black. The reason I've went this route is simply so it fits into the front pocket of my bass case! EDIT: the Stomp looks like its not straight in the photo. It is. Plus. the power adapter fits in the case too. Should've shown that.

  8. Howdy folks. Is anyone on the hunt for an 2021 (i think) S2 with Chris Wolstenholme pickup configuration. Headless with green wraparound LEDs. I needed a Dingwall and I’m more a headed fan! So keeping both my CWs and selling the S2. Bought last year and looking for what I paid. £4,500 - postage would obviously be more. I’m down in Glasgow at the end of the month (23rd-25th) if that helps. Based in Aberdeen, Scotland (photo taken in a dark room for the LEDs!)

  11. For any Newcastle upon Tyne basschatters who are not going to St James Park to watch Leo’s offspring and local lad Sam Fender, we’ll be playing our eclectic mix of country and americana at the rather marvellous Billy Bootleggers on Stepney Bank in the Ouseburn tomorrow (Saturday 10th) kicking off at 6pm. I shall be murdering a selection of bass lines on both fretless bass and NS EUB.

  12. Just rounding out the journey - here's the Noble on my board. It's early days but I have to say I'm really happy I ordered one. The IEM sound is the best I've ever had and, running into the FX return on my AG700, my amp sound is awesome (to my ears anyway) through my Barefaced cab/s! Bring on the festivals!! Have a good summer all 🙂

  13. Fascinating! That’s an obscure bass. Yes, it’s a Revellation made by the independent builder from South Wales,Tony Revell. He was better known for building acoustic guitars and mandolins but in 1992 I commissioned him to make me a lovely acoustic bass. A few years later he developed a range of boutique electric basses - of which this is a rare example. Never knew that Mick Karn had one. Not many people did. He was a darned good luthier, though. Given that the date is post 1992 it’s unlikely that it was used on the RTC album. So there are a couple of possibilities given that they don’t give any details on the bass itself in the ad… a) it’s a 1990/91 custom order but more likely since it’s clearly one of the Revellation basses, then b) his wife can’t recall what it is and when it was bought - and memory simply got that particular detail wrong. Still a cool bass for a collector of basses and/or Karn, though!

  14. Up for sale my "rack of pre's ", including a compressor, parametric equalizer, and a choice of ancient, or modern preamps, depending on your gig. In all honesty, I've only ever taken this to Basschat gatherings, as it could be described as overkill ! Although, I have used them all, separately. Pic is self explanatory, easy to see what's on offer. ( Ashdown RPM1 gone ) Just found my Phil Jones Bass Buddy, so add that to list ! Collection only from West Sussex please, so that kit can be trialled, and please don't ask me questions about the compressor, I never did figure it out 😉 Will see if I have room to put in car and bring to Bass Bash on 12th Nov

  15. Hi all , I thought I would never do this but unfortunately things change. I'm selling my wonderfull pentabuzz to fund a 6 string bass or any high quality 5 string (e to c) or a vintage fender. The reason behind the trade is that I already own a 6 string but if a better one came up ill sell mine and try to fund a 4 string fender(vintage). Partial trade only , wouod need some money my way . Now stop talking and let's get to the point.the pedulla is unbelievable and anyone who have played one can tell you that it doesn't get better than this in the fretless world ! This example is 9.5 out of 10 condition and plays amazing. Bass comes with paper work , tools and ohsc. The bass has a 5AAAAA top and was built in 2000 and has a configuration of jj bartolinis The controls are Volume , pickups blend and tone. The MVP preamp is active, the tone control is a passive cut or active boost either side of the centre position, and the blend is active to keep the volume the same a great setup. String spacing 19mm but can

  28. Hi all, Here we have my Ibanez EHB 1005sms. This is the short scale (but still multi-scale) version, so phenomenally fast and easy to play. 32inch on the B string and 30 on the G. B-String is absolutely superb for a short scale Fanned frets. Birdseye Maple neck. Stainless Steels frets. Bartolini humbuckers. 3 band Active EQ, with variable midrange. Active/Passive switching. Fluorescent side dots. Weighs a supremely comfortable 3.4 kg, in conjunction with the short scale, makes this bass about as easy as it gets with regards to playability. More or less as new condition. Complete with Ibanez gig bag, manual and hex keys. Located in Moreton in Marsh, near the Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire border. Very often in the SW Bristol, Bath Taunton, Swindon area if it helps. Do not have the materials to pack and post, so pickup ideally, or I'm happy to meet within a large radius, as my feedback attests to, for handover (or delivery if you're really close). Thanks for looking!

  29. I have been quizzed and haggled over so many of these parts I've decided to just put it back together as a complete bass with case. It's super light at 8.5 lbs and plays great. In case you haven't seen the parts listing, it's a 68 body, control plate and bridge married to a 74 neck and tuners. The pots are 1 Centralab - sorry, Stackpole and two CTS which are all late 66's. They've had a lot of soldering done to them in the past but they work fine, no scratchy noises, all turn smoothly. The 74 dated pickups are original windings and sound awesome. Case is early 70's and apart from a replaced non-stock handle, in great shape with all latches present and working. £3000 plus £50 shipping UK wide. For Europe shipping a fair bit more.

  30. Harley Benton's take on the mustang, but in a PJ format and with Gotoh hardware. This one has had a push/pull pot added which solos the P pickup. It also has a set of Nordstrand pickups fitted, and now sounds rather grown up! Fender short scale gigbag included, and I do have a shipping box if needed. A high quality bass for a very reasonable price. n

  31. Hi Folks, Schroeder 21012L 1000w, 4 ohm Bass Cab, with fitted Hotcovers padded cover, for sale at £SOLD . Schroeder cabs are hand built to the highest quality by Jorg Schroeder in the USA and you would be looking at somewhere around $1,000, plus import & shipping costs to buy a new and equivalent model. This is the lightweight 4ohm cab rated at 1,000 watts. As can be seen in the photos, it's loaded with two front mounted 10” drivers and a 'folded' 12” neodymium driver, plus a 200w titanium bullet tweeter (adjustment for the tweeter is mounted on the rear input plate). The cabinet weighs approx 49lbs (23kilo). Dimensions = 60 cms x 62 cms x 42 cms. Input is either via standard jack or by neutrik twist connector. Also included is a heavily padded HotCovers cover (over £50 new). The cab is working perfectly - drivers, horn and electronics are all good and doing what they should. I would describe the exterior condition of the cab as 'good' , though it's clearly been used, as the photos show. I bought this at the start of the year on Facebook and have enjoyed using it at rehearsals and gigs where it's performed admirably; it's loud and punchy, and the unique design means it fills the room with ease! However, I’ve decided to put it up for sale as I want to go back to using bass cabs with ceramic magnets, as I just prefer the tone of them for some reason (even though that means carrying around a cab that's a lot heavier than this one). I know that makes me a Luddite, but hey - I can live with it! 😁 Anyway, enough of my foolishness... This is a great cab and priced to sell to someone who I hope will make good use of it. Collection from Potton, Central Bedfordshire much preferred though fully insured shipping (at buyers expense) is not totally out of the question if that's the only way to get a deal done. And I'm also happy to drive up to an hour from my location to do a classic 'Basschat meet up' somewhere mutually convenient. Trials welcome here in Potton and there will be plenty of tea/coffee on tap for you whilst you test the cab out with your own amp and bass to your heart's content. Any questions, please ask here or send me a PM. Thanks for looking. 👍😊 Cheers Nik

  33. No worries, someone sent me a link of this thread, it must have been someone else if it wasn't you, I have many haters for various reasons, they get a kick out of things like this. You've met me in person before, it's awkward for you to ask people about me, you definitely know more about me than 99.9% on here. For full disclosure I've torn my ACL 22 days ago, I can just about walk now and I need surgery, I'm still trying to work but there are lots of physical challenges, packing/ unpacking guitars, fret-dressing while sitting down is proving to be rather difficult and I simply don't have couple of hours to spare for someone to come and try multiple guitars, sorry.

  35. For those who don't take a backup, is it because you literally don't have one, or you just don't want to, or physically can't, take an extra instrument with you? I kinda get that people are saying that they've never had a problem in xxxx gigs so don't need it (I suppose they don't have fully comp car/home/breakdown insurance for similar reasons? As ultimately that's all taking a backup bass is), but its such a minimal effort if you use a vehicle to get to gigs that I just don't really get why you wouldn't, however unlikely it may be.

  36. I've thankfully never had to use a backup, but I've seen many who have needed one who didn't bring one and have either had to stop the gig, try and restring or otherwise transcribe as they go, and it looks totally unprofressional. It's an anxiety I don't need

  41. Just the one, but I mostly play originals to an empty room. If I was getting paid to do a set of covers in a pub or something then I'd take 2 so I have a backup just in case. I saw a Pearl Jam tribute band a couple of years ago and they were great. The bassist must have played at least 5 different basses over the 1hr30m set. Jeff Ament played quite a wide range of basses over the course of their career so far and I really rated the bass player for going the extra mile to get it as spot on as possible. I was probably the only person in the venue who appreciated it though 😃
