Days don’t get much better - rocked a 50-plus lunchtime crowd in Bournemouth’s St Peter’s Church with the Otis Jay Blues Band. And it was St Peter’s Day…who knew! Off later to see @casapete and his ELO Experience at the Pavilion theatre about a quarter of a mile away. It’s splendid, but I reckon our venue is even more spectacular.14 points

Here's a thing you don't see every day. I know nobody's got any money right now, but some things are worth throwing away a credit rating for, shirley? This is an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous StingRay Classic from 2010, in a divine Sonic-alike blue that was only available for one model year. It is immaculate -- but for a small chip in the headstock varnish, which can be seen under the big letter R in the logo, I'd be calling it as-new. If you aren't familiar with the Stingray Classic, it's a 'reimagining' in the original 1970s style and features the following vintage stylings: Slab body 7.5in radiused board Simple non-compensated nut Larger vintage bridge with foam mutes Through-body stringing Metal battery cover 2-band EQ and “classic” headstock logo. The guitar has a striking Birdseye maple neck with gloss finish. It’s set up nice and low with Ernie Ball Extra Slinkies (.040 - .095) and plays beautifully. Included are the original hard-shell case and tortoiseshell scratchplate (which still has the plastic film attached). For some reason this never gets played much. I'm mostly playing extended-range basses and I'd be afeared to gig this anyway. So it gets looked at every now and then, and I run a few scales up and down the neck, for old time's sake. I love it to death, but it deserves to be more than just a beautiful ornament. And anyway, I've other (non-bass) things to fund. Our kitchen scales reckon this weighs 4.49kig, or 9.89lb. It's neither the lightest nor the heaviest bass guitar I've ever used. Width at nut is a Precision-like 41.3mm. Feel free to make me an offer, but please note that I won't be letting it go for silly prices. If you can even find a second-hand Classic these days, the price tag tends to be nearer £2k. Apologies to non-UK peeple but I won't be posting this overseas. And I'm definitely not up for trades, again sorry. Price doesn't include shipping, which is likely to be pricey. But of course, it's free to collect and I may be able to arrange drop-off within a reasonable distance. Now advertised elsewheres, but a bit cheaper here dontcha know ... Nuff sales talk, here's the pr0n: (See that chip under the 'R'? That's the only mark I can find)11 points

And...it's finished!!!! The 'last few jobs' always turn out to be a 'myriad of final jobs. Anyway, all sorted. I'm passing it across to Alex tomorrow - I will try and get him to do a bit of recording at one of their band practices but, in the meantime, you'll have to trust me when I say it sounds great Although it is just a small wiring change and no hardware change, I've opted NOT to go for the P-rails standard wiring system which gives: Full series humbucker; parallel humbucker; P90; Rails. I've used that system in a number of my own gigging guitars and I found that: - the fact that both pickups are always in the same configuration for the four options is actually, ironically, quite limiting. I was always hankering for, such as, 'neck pickup full series humbuck for the depth, mixed with bridge pickup in split coil mode to add a bit of extra treble and dispel any muddiness' and similar - I also never, in practice, used the rails by themselves...not enough ooomph - and I never, in practice, used the humbuckers in parallel...not enough depth I talked that through with Alex and, for kickoff, we decided to have a standard split coil option for both pickups where the operating coil in each case was the P90. So he can go full series humbucker with 3 way options, P90 with 3 way options and one (either) pickup P90 and the other series humbucker. It's a 30 minute job to change the wiring to the 'P-rail standard' options if he wants to try that in the future. Anyway, here are some of the arty-farty finished pics: Many thanks for looking and for your kind comments - in spite of the fact that it is another one from 'the dark side'. It's hugely appreciated11 points

New bass day. Ok it’s not new but it’s new to me. a non-export fender Made In Japan Aerodyne with both jazz pickups instead of the normal PJ setup. 32” scale that I’ve been wanting to try and the body is apparently 6% smaller which is great for me as I’m a short person 😂. Pics below next to my Mexican Precision for size reference. Feels great to play and sounds good but the strings are too low tension for me so I’ll have to look into medium scale strings and the pickups seem a bit thinner/quieter so might look into those but overall it’s great.8 points

The parts are as follows: Mexican P neck (Player series I think). Squier body with a bit of perhaps not strictly honest wear. Vintage style bridge. Stew Mac own brand pickups. Stew Mac control package (I think they're CTS pots). Fender stamped neck plate. Generic pickguard. The neck is basically unplayed. Frets have zero wear and truss rod is perfect. Strung with Pyramid flats. The neck had 70s style tuners on it and whoever fitted them must have been a bit ham fisted as they snapped a couple of screws in the holes. I was going to rout them out and plug the holes but decided to fit lighter weight tuners instead and the bass balances much better on the strap so I've just left things as they are. The weight is just under 8lb 12oz and balances well for a bass this light. The pickups are embarrassingly nice - the bass sounds as good if not better than my late 70s P. They have a bit more warmth to them. Price includes UK delivery or you can come to Brighton. Bits listed separately here:6 points

I’d never seen a 32.5 scale bass (that I was aware of) until this came along. A very nice thing, nice to play, lovely fretboard, I like it a lot. Surprisingly high output, lots of highs and lows being active. It does feel different, the scale length, but comfortable.5 points

Just got the G2. It’s fantastic - nice form, tighter rumble, zero feedback which made the G1 a problem at higher settings and nice upgrades for usbc charging and simple cable arrangement. Impressed!5 points

The massive, weighty cab quest/collecting is at an end. I think I’ve finally scratched the itch. This cab was the final ‘must have/try’ cab that I’d lusted after as a young player. It took me 35 years to find one of them. I drove to London to collect it in December. It came with a blown driver and missing one piece of plastic trim. Thankfully this one didn’t need re tolexing. Only a couple of small nicks which I was able to glue down. the plastic trim was impossible to find. A very flat ‘h’ shape with a coloured insert. I had to create the profile with 3 separate pieces of plastic trim and then get the colour matched and ended up painting both trims so the matched. The colour is remarkably close but the remaining trim had been non uniformly faded/stained with nicotine. the grill frame had cracked but only required gluing. I added some wooden fillets to the baffle as the grill and whole front is angled back and was Probably the cause of the crack as it wasn’t supported and difference of about 20mm between the top and bottom. Baffle painted, new 600w eminence installed and the Badge attached, I’d bought the badge around 15 years ago ’just in case’. These cab restorations often end in great disappointment when I play them in a band context. This wasn’t the case with this. Very loud and consistent timbre. It’s a great cab and now Part of the ‘keepers’. There is no other cab I fancy and I’m no longer searching. That said, if a second one came along or a second peavey 3620? 🤣4 points

Redonizm played out first ever school prom last night. Our drummer's wife is the head of a local SEN school and so volunteered us for their prom. As I mentioned before, we learned a few more recent songs for the occasion and both of our singers were replaced with deps. Luckily they were a dream to work with and made our job much easier. The gig itself went well, we played well (much better than at last weekend's gig) sounded great out front and the kids danced pretty much through the whole set and seemed to really enjoy themselves. It was refreshing to see so many kids singing along to near enough every song, even the older one. So job done! Only a couple of issues. We had been told to arrange a single 90min set, to start at 7.30 prompt and finish and 9pm. Only to find out halfway through they wanted us to keep going until 9.30. We realised at aroun 8.45 we weren't going to have enough songs in the pre-arranged set to string out, so we threw in several last-minute additions, one of which hadn't been rehearsed with one of the singers, but he did a great job. He also had the gift of gab and was able to talk to the audience and eek out a little more time! Also, although we turned up in seemingly plenty of time to set up (allowed a couple of hours), time quickly got away from us and it was 7.30 with kids waiting outside before we knew it. If we'd had another 5 mins to finish the soundcheck, I would have been completely happy with the monitor mix, but it wasn't quite there. I didn't even have time to change my shirt or get a fresh bottle of water! It worries me that our next gig we only have 1 hour to setup, soundcheck and play.4 points

This ACG ÜBER Recurve 6string fretless bass was built in 2018 by Scottish luthier Alan Cringean, ACG (Alan Cringean Guitars) to my specifications, i.e. Wal specifications, and was delivered in July 2018. The ÜBER series is Alan's premium series and as the name suggests, nothing beats it! Such a bass currently easily costs more than 6,000.00 euros on the continent, depending on the specifications. I would like 4600,00 Euro / 3950,00 GBP for this bass. Specs….: • Body Wood: Mahogany • Top/Back Wood: 3 color ART Maple Burl with Maple Veneer • Body Finish: Satin Lacquer • Neck Wood: 5 piece Maple/Mahogany • Finger Board: Ebony without fretlines with side dots in the usual positions, where the fretlines would be • Scale: 34″ • Neck finish: Satin Lacquer • Pickups: ACG MC 6 multicoil pickups, these are real multicoils, like Wal! • Hardware: ACG/Hipshot bridge 18mm, Schaller straplocks , low battery indicator • Pre-amp: ACG DFM 4K filter (!) preamp, like Wal • Hiscox case and adjustment tools https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0317u-recurve-6-fretless/ With this equipment, the bass is a real whaler and even more versatile! If you don't want to or can't join the Wal hype, you should take a look at Alan Cringean's basses. I still own an identical 5-string ÜBER Recurve that I play almost exclusively now, because age is taking its toll. That's why the 6-string bass is still the way it came and has only a few playing hours under its belt. It is completely immaculate and living room-groomed. The setup was made by the respected German bass builder Magnus Krempel, who lives nearby. Unfortunately, my back is forcing me to sell this wonderful bass... Maybe the price is good only on the continent because of customs and taxes in the UK? Private sale without guarantee, exchange or return! Shipping possible after consultation.3 points

Yep your full band needs discipline when setting up and sound checking. No faffing around or blethering unless its about the gig. Once set up and sound checked you can chat all you like until gig starts. We give ourselves 1 hr with punk band and 2 hrs with Glam band mainly because it takes time to get dressed up plus we have 2 lead singers and 2 BV's plus sound effects altho desk is a digital one and we store the band settings to give us a starting point at the gig. We also have back drop and more lights with Glam band. If we need to eat before playing depending on travel times we allow an extra 30-45mins. Dave3 points

DOD Meatbox or Mantic Density Hulk is the pedal you are looking for. Be warned - most bass cabs don't handle subs like you think they will. The Meatbox has wrecked more speakers than you can imagine. Ideally you want to run these pedals via a DI straight into a venue's PA to drive their subwoofers. You can put them through your rig and feel the subs, but keep it dialled back... crank those 30hz and pay the price For a suitable half-way house, the Aguilar Octamizer is an octave pedal that has an EQ filter on it, meaning that it can roll our the higher more synthy octave tones and just keep the lows. It's not going to get you the Meatbox lows, but it will give you a more sub-like octave tone.3 points

A few pics that show the fit of the neck in the pocket and some fretboard figuring. The fretboard was pretty dry, so I had apply a lot of oil. I will let it absorb and polish the fretboard again within a few weeks and add some more oil if needed. I've changed the strings to Fender flats, because they were already cut for shortscale through body, and were in reach 🙂. It's a very good match. It still has some of the character as when fit with rounds, but just with a little more complexity.3 points

For sale is my recently acquired US Precision. Bought from here not too long ago but just not getting used as its a little on the heavy side for me and I'm only using my very lightweight Roscoe bass now. Although it only just over 9Lbs I struggle after about half an hours playing with it. It was advertised as being a bit lighter than this hence the purchase. I tried it a few times with the band but my crap back said no! Overall excellent condition with only minor scratches on the back that the camera can't pick out. It comes with the Fender case, tags and strap. Please note: This is a 9yo USED bass so there are minor age related marks and scratches, most of which on the back. Those with a keen eye may have noticed a scratch like mark in the upper horn. This was just a surface mark and has been wiped away. The overall condition is very good with no chips to the finish, excellent frets and the truss rod turns fine. The Fender case is also in very good condition as is the strap! Collection or meet up from St Helens Merseyside (reasonable distance) only as I have nothing to ship it in. No trades thanks.2 points

I have a 3/4 bass I really should move on. It’s got quality Thomastic Spirocore strings on it (an important point and £180 alone) and has been properly set up for jazz and orchestra. I used it for my first couple of years. It’ a Gear For Music laminated model and is a very good example. It would come with the soft case as well. Stand not included. £375 would do it. The pickup in the photo is a Fishman BP 100 that I can do for £50 with the bass. I’m in Leatherhead just off the M25. Thanks for looking….2 points

Original 1st Gen. 64gb. Pretty much mint condition. Only supports ios5. whilst this is old, I hate to just throw it away. I work in IT and even I can’t find any use for it. I am happy to post it for free so long as you can make use of it. It even comes with a leather case. It’s such a waste to bin it 😒 rob2 points

I´m sure, this has been asked and answered several times. But as it is one of the most important things in making music to me, I´ll ask it one more time. What´s the tune you´re playing over and over again without getting enough of it? To me it´s "The Way" by Fastball. Just re-discovered it and don´t know how I could lose it for years.2 points

This absolutely. The feel of the neck especially, which I think is big big deal for a bass. None of this is matter of life and that. One can just buy a "sensible" and well reccommended bass that looks nice and everything will be alright. But seeing something in picture or holding it in your hand is different. On that note, while the reccomendation of getting a skinny Ibanez neck as it is more "similar" to a guitar is sensible, I would not worry too much about it because things may play out in ways that are surprising. I switched from guitar to bass when I was a teenager because I bought a P bass (relatively big neck) just for an occasional noodle. But then I had so much fun with that big neck and those big strings that I could not stop playing it2 points

When I bought my Stingray Ray34 it came with a Kent Armstrong pickup and a Status Graphite fretless neck. I didn't like the pickup so I replaced it with a Nordstrand pickup. I also didn't reeeeally like the graphite neck, so I had a maple/ebony unlined neck made by Peter Boekholt (pbbasses.com). It was finally finished so I picked it up yesterday! Very very happy with this beautiful neck.2 points

For the last month or so, I've pretty much played this thing exclusively. No gigs but it's seen a few studio sessions plus lots of playing at home - 6 months since purchase and it's just getting better (my opinion, of course) as everything seems to have stabilized and settled in nicely. For the money, this range of basses are incredible.2 points

Moollon basses are hand-made basses to reproduce the pre-CBS era Fender sound. It even follows the circuit, bringing the same noise issues with the knobs, but I managed to fix them from a shop, their explanation was that separating the wiring that crossed each other should solve the issue, and it did. This bass was custom ordered directly by the previous owner to match the colours of headstock and body, around late 2010s, there is no other bass that is built the same with this one. I've done many recordings and stages with this bass, it's sad to let this go, but I'm moving abroad and I have too many guitars to take with me. If you wish to listen to the recordings, I'm happy to share some, and please do come and test it yourself, it's an amazing bass. Comes with an old mono gigbag and a spare white pick guard that came with it when ordered. Moollon basses are very rare and renowned for greatly copying pre-cbs fenders, in the US P5 standard model goes for over 3000-4000 bucks. For specs please visit (spec for P classic which is a 4 string version) http://www.moollon.com/front/product/product_list.php?code=003&seq=48. I saw it somewhere the radius is 12" but not entirely sure.2 points

These folk do not owe you anything - and you shouldn't assume what pulls they may have on their time or reasoning for responding to, or not responding to your message. I think if I was a celeb, I would be very wary of responding to anything. You never know who people really are... or what associations may be presumed from such interactions.2 points

My opinion on Elton and Blondie, having finally had a chance to watch their sets: Debbie Harry is, worryingly, starting to look like my old Nan (R.I.P).... and doesn't sing as well as her... Chris Stein's guitar stylings are sorely missed.... and temp bassist Glen Matlock lacks the required 'groove' while disappointingly simplifying the classic basslines on Rapture, Atomic etc. Leigh Foxx please get well soon. The songs need you! Clem Burke.... pure quality as always. A monster drummer and still the best thing about the band... Elton John.... Wow!! What can I say?!?! An absolute masterclass in songwriting & performance! Emotional, stirring, celebratory and uplifting in equal measure. His band are stunning & I particularly enjoyed Matt Bissonette's bass playing, honouring the beautiful, melodic basslines of the late, great Dee Murray while making them his own. How lucky we are to live in a time where so much amazing music has been made and performed....2 points
