We were in Glasgow last night, one of my favourite cities and also one of my favourite venues, The King’s Theatre. Opened in 1904, it seats nearly 1800 on four levels, and we had over 1300 in so felt great and full of atmosphere. Crowd were well up for it from the first song, and the onstage sound was loud due to having a PA stack next to me! A really enjoyable gig, my last one for 2 weeks though - due to a family thing I’m unable to play at a festival gig next week, so I have put a dep in (first time ever in over 12 years!). Back with the band at Buxton Opera House on September 2nd, another superb old venue. (Also had a dep cellist with us last night, Ayla from Glasgow who did a great job despite never having heard of ELO!).19 points

Emergency Exit punk covers band in one of our regular bar gig in Dumfries at The Riverside. As always it was a great night with a decent sized and enthusiastic audience. We had a local Ramones fan and guest singer for one of their songs which was good fun altho we changed the key for our female singer and i think he struggled to reach the higher notes in some areas. Our own singer Lynn covered those bits with him so all good. After the gig we were asked if we would be interested in doing a local festival next year so that was good. This was taken at sound check and we even got a cheer and round of applause doing the sound check which is always a nice feeling. We even had a couple that travelled from Gretna to the gig. They booked a taxi for 11pm to get home at £50. I remembered them form last time we played there. Sold 8 of our new T shirts last night too as modelled by our singer in the pic below. Early start 7:30pm finished 10:30 with 15min break Dave14 points

Played the Queen of Bradgate in Leicester with the country band I've joined. This is the REM photo ( that's me in the corner 🤠). Great gig, lots of boogie-ing in the crowd and we played lots of country cheese, including "Country Roads" and ended up with 9-5, which is a lot of fun....we stayed on the intro for quite a while while the crowd worked out which song was coming. Turns out @Bluewine was not the only one in a cowboy hat 🤠. Oh yeah and there was a punch up half-way through the 2nd set 👍12 points

Immaculate condition Moollon P with original case and stuff (picks, strap, cloths) happy to discuss trades/part trades. Only thing is can’t deal with any massive chunky necks but feel free to send over what you have. Probably most interested in p bass/ jazz bass and if anyone happened to have a Moollon J or P with a J neck they wanted to trade I’d love that. any questions fire away and if you want to come and try it feel free!10 points

Two gigs to remember last week - first one was on Thursday at the Gillingham & Shaftesbury agricultural show, playing from 12:30 to 14:30 - a rather weird timing but it was the last day of the event so everything would be totally brown by 18:00. We had the luxury of a marquee, full PA, raised stage and engineer provided, one of just three bands on the day; the new promoters were apparently cutting back on the entertainment side of things to save money, hence our single two-hour slot. The weather was hot and sticky and so were we by the end. The crowd were pretty responsive for this sort of event (can be a bit unengaged, often preferring to watch the sheep I think), but they were jigging about and applauding, with a couple of further gigs offered for next year. I've decided to accept that I'd really bought the HB shorty bass for our guitarist to spank during my sax set to save his left wrist(!) so I set it up as a cuckoo in his nest of five guitars linked via a Nux radio setup to an A/B switch on my amp while I used the MM Bongo - worked well giving us a very rapid instrument changeover, pic is of me and he, sax and bass. The second gig on Saturday was just six miles up the road for me (and 40 miles for the rest of the band, usually the other way around) in Beaminster - a private 21st party. Super crowd, very good vibe and totally enjoyable except for the stairs in and out - the first ones we've had to deal with in a year or more.10 points

I'd leave it be. Then you won't feel so bad when you put the next dink in it.10 points

So gig number one last night was a blast. The weather was atrocious which meant the bar was heaving. Due to the bar's flat roof the ceiling actually sprang a few leaks and it's the first time I've gigged with a rain bucket next to my pedalboard. The audience was really up for a good night which helped and we had dancers almost from the get go. Everyone played really well and I had a few nice compliments about my playing too. I used the new Fender for the first set and it played really well. All in all a good night and now on to the afternoon gig today.10 points

Already home from the gig and it was an hour’s drive away. 6:45 start and we were done and dusted at 10:00, proper civilised if you ask me. Great venue in Dundee (Number 57), they have their own PA with remote, tablet control mixer (no being told to turn down here, not our problem). Seemed like a good mix and the customers were in fine form and looking forward to hearing us. I think we gave them a good show, as they were very complimentary. I really enjoyed it, despite the limited space for the band, nice staff (this seems to be a feature of the Dundee gigs I’ve played) and a happy landlord. I’d happily play there again.10 points

For sale or trade is my 2007 Warwick Thumb NT5. Absolutely immaculate condition, the only discrepancy is the truss rod cover is from a bolt on model from previous owner(s). Great player, really great action. Approx weight is 4.9kg. Sounds just like a Thumb should, tight, growly and a midrange to die for. Only getting rid of it because I've found it's a little too upfront in the mix for the wedding/functions band. Ideally considering trades, decent 5 strings or potentially vintage Fenders. Will take lower value basses with appropriate cash adjustment. Hit me up.9 points

It pains me to put this bass up for sale, I’ve owned it for the past 12 years and we’ve done hundreds of gigs together, however I’m not playing 5 string anymore and I need a Rickenbacker 4003 so she’s gotta go It plays and sounds superb and any trial is welcome. It has a 2 band Sandberg active EQ and pull knob control to change to passive. The serial number is 8005 which, according to the Sandberg website, makes it a 2009 model. I’m not looking for trades unless you have a Ricky 4003, preferably in Fireglo 😉 I’d rather not post but could do at cost to the buyer. I’m based in Leeds and would be willing to travel to meet up within a reasonable radius of Leeds. Please let me know if you have any questions.8 points

A couple of gigs this weekend. Sound was good and we were tight both nights but had router problems with the desk. First night started with the wrong one plugged in, second night it didn’t work so had to be swapped so both setups had their stresses. Second night there’s been something going on with management changes and we are told that the regulars are siding with the old manager and boycotting the pub at the moment, we’ll that’s what we’ll console ourselves with anyway 🤷♂️8 points

Almondbury cricket club last night, compact and bijou but we adjusted the set up to make it work. I had one of those ‘sausage fingers’ nights which isn’t normal for me but managed to disguise the gaffs and we got plenty of compliments at the end and a couple of enquiries from other local venues. As there had been a match on we were treat to some great Indian food before the first set - bonus. I leave you with an artistic shot of the famous twin towers of Huddersfield!8 points

Saw one of these online and despite the rather steep price there was no way I wasn't going to buy a Bootsy Collins action figure!! 😁 This guy will be coming with me to the studio in a few weeks when I record with my band. The dearth of funkiness in our material may be resolved subconsciously by his attendance I hope!7 points

Today's gig - playing as part of a weekend-long fundraiser for Noah’s Ark children’s hospital . I'm loving how (a) I look about 6" taller than everyone else in the band (b) I've been captured in a rare "playing beyond the 4th fret" moment This is likely my last outing in a rock covers band. I've done all the gigs I signed up for, but heading in a more acoustic direction now.7 points

Good morning fellow BC-ers! Slightly nervous about this as I've not shared anything before, but here's a few photos from my band Mills of Sion's gig at the Sociable Beer Company in Worcester last night. I'm playing my @Andyjr1515custom short scale that I bought from @scrumpymike earlier this year. It's such a gorgeous bass (one guy came to talk to me at the end to say exactly that!) and it's all I use for this band now. We had a fantastic night - great venue with friendly helpful staff, and a really good crowd. Would definitely recommend to anyone else gigging in this area.6 points

I’m a big fan of leaving it alone. Guitars and basses are *meant* to be used, they *will* get dings and scratches. They’re what makes it yours and yours alone.6 points

I have reluctantly decided to re list my fantastic Elrick Evo Gold 4 string bass after an initial change of heart. It is by a country mile the best bass I have owned, but it is far too much for what I need. I play mainly at home and have come to the realization that I don’t need one of the world’s best bass guitars to do what I do. Bought only a couple of months ago it’s impossible to distinguish this guitar from a new version, it is literally in pristine condition. The action is set medium low and it plays and sounds like a dream been through my Fender Rumble. Please see some info on the spec below which has several significant upgrades. Ideally I prefer a straight sale but I will accept a partial trade for a bass of lesser value plus cash. The bass comes with an Elrick TKL case and tools. Please note that the a similar version of this bass with a lower spec is currently available at a well known UK retailer for well over 4k. The bass weighs in at a startling 3.2 kg or just over 7lbs in old money. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Partial trade wise I am looking for something lightweight in a Jazz style or similar with at least £1000 coming my way please. I’m not really interested in a straight trade for another instrument as I would like a more utilitarian bass. This is more suited to a gigging pro bass player which I’m not. Also if you have a really nice light ish Fender Jazz or super jazz then please let me know. Cheers. Lightweight swamp ash body •Exotic Ebony “10” top – £500 option •Maple neck •2-way adjustable truss rod •Width at nut: 42mm •Bird’s eye fingerboard, radius: 16″ – £300 upcharge •24 frets + zero fret •Medium Fretwire •Glow in dark luminlay side dots – £75 upcharge •34″ scale •19mm string spacing at bridge •Bartolini CB Pickups – £200 upgrade •Bartolini NTMBF 3 band eq, 9v •Switching for active/passive and three way mid frequency switch: 250/500/800Hz •Black Hipshot Ultralight tuners and B style bridge •Dunlop Straploks • Strung with D’Addario 40-100 round wound strings. •TKL Hard case6 points

Last update. Gig last night in a good sized venue with proper power supplies (no 4 way extension boards here!) and LED lighting. Quiet as a mouse. 2.5 hour set straight through no issues. Phew. It's a keeper - but, as per chat here, it probably shouldn't be reacting so badly to electrical interference the way it does in my house - so will see if Ashdown can take it for a service once gigs settle down. It also sounds lush through the Big Twin. Thanks all.6 points

We have the same issue with our singer unfortunately. She's a phenomenal singer and we've won many a gig because on her voice, but her "banter" is almost non-existent and if the gig is quiet in terms of audience feedback she clams up entirely. We've got a double-header this weekend: tonight at a campsite/caravan park bar which is usually very lively (think Mos Eisley with gore tex) and an afternoon slot at a popular pub. It's likely to be a quiet one though with the football and the local County Show on too, but I'm sure we'll make the most of it and I am planning on using my new toy for at least half the set.5 points

Reduced to £850 Selling my 2019 Flea jazz bass. I'm no longer playing in a band and thining my collection back. I do love this but my JMJ and P are the only ones I pick up an play trigger now. This is a lovey example, all in perfect working order and arguably with the higher quality early-model relicing. Weighs in on bathroom scales at 4.0kg and comes with the orginal Fender soft gig bag (unmarked) and the original tags (and the original 'Flea' neck plate which has been replaced with the more generic Fender version. https://serialnumberlookup.fender.com/product/0141020356 Not looking to post but happy to work with the buyer at their cost to organise a courier. Also happy to meet up a reasonably distance from Surrey / south east.4 points

SOLD Would also consider a trade for a Line 6 HX Stomp plus cash my way. Sandberg California II VS 5 String Hardcore Aged Relic P-Bass Active Passive. Used but very good condition. Beautiful action with no fret wear. Recently equipped a set of D’Addario NYXL strings. Traditional P-bass tones in passive mode with traditional tone control, or a more modern voice with the active mode and 2 band EQ. Deluxe gig bag included. Super light weight for a 5er at 8.5lbs. Wonderful balance too, no neck dive at all. The factory Hardcore Ageing is beautifully done. Absolutely pro level bass for not a lot of money! I'd rather not post, but can if absolutely required. Alternatively I'm happy to meet up somewhere.4 points

Here's my little rig! GK Legacy 500 into 2 x Barefaced One10 cabs. From June 2022, I've since changed the grilles on the cabs, with the new BF logos, and the pedals have changed a bit, but you get the idea...4 points

Steam / soldering iron works for fretboard dings, not sure about wood with a finish... Did you lacquer the headstock? I'd spray a bit of lacquer a cocktail stick and wipe in the scratch, to lessen the appearance... or just leave it Arsing about can only make it worse...4 points

This seems to happen a lot, you think you or the band haven't been on point, yet folk from the audience are inversely complimentary; go figure.4 points

Not this again. No, you don't. You'll think you do, buy it, have it for a while, think "why did I buy this again?" then flog it off for £90 to someone else, and the cycle continues...4 points

Having a cull! Peavey Fury. Some might call it a Mk I, possibly a '92. USA built P bass with a narrow neck. I bought this from Davie @kodiakblair a couple of years back and it was, as he described, in 'roadkill' condition. Tidied up, new parchment scratchplate, electrics fixed (though a little crackly). Paint has aged to a lovely warm cream. Neck is a dream, tone is killer - a very aggressive precision tone. Lightweight. Strung with TI Flats 8lbs/3.6kg 37mm at the nut 19mm spacing at the bridge Priced to sell at £200, £150 collection only at the moment from South Benfleet, Essex, or maybe meet half way within an hour from here for £170.3 points

Reluctantly but needs must we have up for sale my Barefaced Super Twelve T (the one with adjustable tweeter) Barefaced website stuff - https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/super-twelve.htm This is the Gen 2 cab i believe It's been great gigging with this behind me but the band have moved over to IEM's so it's now surplus to requirement - i may get a BF SC one day just so i still have a cab - but for now cab has to go Comes with a generic looking Roqsolid cover - it's a bit "meh" looking but it's kept the cab as you can see in excellent condition The wheels work as they should but the cab is super liteweight anyway an easy 1h carry in or out of any gig If you're looking you already know these things shift some serious air and sound amazing - i've never had a bass head that can push the FULL potentiol out of this thing and i've never even turned my Eich T-900 up more than 1/3rd at any gig so i've never even had the loudest i can get out of it. Price is firm - Collection only from Basingstoke - could consider a 30 ish min drive to meet up if that helps for fuel money or at least a costa flat white Please allow 48 hours for me to arrange collection from the Studio we practice at (as i dont have space at home to store it) Thanks for looking Big JHW3 points

P Bass body Starting a clear out. Here’s a nice Precision-type bass body I bought on ebay for a project I’m never going to get round to do. So never tried the pickups but they look pretty robust. No idea of its pedigree put I liked the wood grain and thought it would make a good looking bass. Selling price is what I paid for it. Time for someone else to enjoy it I can post for £83 points

An opportunity to get a bass I've been wanting for a while has since come up elsewhere so i am re-selling this recent purchase from here. It really is another great example from Fender that needs very little introduction on Basschat. So glad I've tried one and sad to see it go as they are quite special indeed but Mrs Raslee is watching the 'music budget' like a hawk with a looming holiday......you know how it is I had put a mint green pickguard on to match my P bass, this can be included in the deal as well as the tort guard. Overall in excellent 'roadworn' condiiton, very lightweight at only 8lbs, low action, superb tone. I will also throw in an excellent Gigbag, the amazing Slick bag! slight stitching loose but nothing that effects it functionality - loads of compartments. Collect Plymouth, or happy to discuss courier - approx £20 in the UK, likely to be more if abroad.3 points

I read the stuff above about contributing to society. I think the Jam Night I go to does that. Bands and punters all mixed in together having a laugh, a sing, a few drinks a laugh and maybe a dance. The format makes it so easy to do, because if you aren’t playing then you are one of the punters. Everyone seems to have a smile on their face - a proper “feel-good” night. This is us playing basket case.3 points
