Hi there I am selling my Lipstick Red 18V Kubicki Factor bass from 1988 (1124 09 88). This bass has been setup with a really low action and plays exquisitely. For a 35-year-old bass, the condition is amazing. The paintwork is near perfect and there are no dings or scratches to speak of. The only two things to point out is a bit of buckle rash on the back of the bridge and a bit of dark red blush on the bottom edge of the body near the input jack. I only just noticed it when taking the photos so it really isn’t obvious at all (I've tried to show the blemish in a couple of photos). Due to the great condition, I am asking £2,950 GBP. These basses are $5,000 new and dont have the Kudos of being made by Phil Kubicki and his small team in Santa Barbara. I am selling because I have a couple of Dingwall basses which I now play and I dont like moving between fanned frets and regular. My top class luthier has ensured the action is nice and low, checked the electronics are serviced and a new jack barrel has been installed. Its 100% gig ready. Its a reluctant sale but I gig infrequently these days and it would be sad for a bass like this to sit in its case year after year. I am located in the UK (North West England - so Preston/Lancaster/Manchester/Liverpool) and ideally I'd prefer collection in person. However, if the buyer wants to go to to the trouble to arrange all the postage so someone just collects from my door - at their cost, I will ensure its packaged securely. Price: Was £2,950 GBP now £2,850 GBP7 points

Well, this is my first ‘proper’ Bass purchased by myself way back in 1989 from Macaris in Denmark Street. It has been my go to bass over 90% of gigs.and never let me down . Regarding the modifications : This Bass is now PASSIVE and NO LONGER NEEDS BATTERY. The volume and tone buttons don't do anything and step ( clicks when adjusting volume , bass and treble ) are no longer there . Just plug'n'play . I got Graham Noden of Denmark Street at the time to remove the active circuitry., due to radio interference and crackles etc. The bass still sounds very powerful , and not too bright sounding . Ideal for all band situations . I even recorded an ep in one of my rock covers bands should you wish to hear it. 🙀. Oh , and the Bass has a switch craft jack replacing the fragile one of old .Again done by Graham Noden. Having said all that , the Bass still sounds amazing , still teangy with new strings and still very weighty in sound . Speaking of weight , it weighs around 4kg/ 9lbs ..about the same as a typical fender . This is probably down to the rich American walnut body . The mods here have made things easier and more robust imho, and no more batteries to worry about .is surely a good thing . The bass is in very good condition for its age imho. A few marks etc as one would expect . A quality bass ,with a rich American walnut body . It comes with a gig bag which is usable just . Price not set in stone, but they don't seem to be around much these days . I still have original Washburn strap and strap locks somewhere. I have never shipped a bass. I could if you’re serious, purchase a couple of Bass Guitar Boxes from the Amazon and you could arrange for your own courier , but I'd rather not . Uk only6 points

I've never left a band on bad terms and only once did we have to ask someone to leave a band I was in. In such a tight community it should be obvious to all concerned that things aren't working and so the act of leaving/being asked to leave shouldn't really be a surprise. As has been said above, issues caught early enough can be addressed and as long as that is done in an adult manner, things should work out without the handbag moments, even if someone has to go. The only time we had a problem was with a bassist (I was the guitarist in the band) who couldn't see how his attitude of challenging everything and being late to rehearsals and gigs was a problem. The icing on the cake was when he refused to go back on to play an extended encore at a club gig and sat in the dressing room while we played another 30 minutes to a great crowd. He was asked to leave the following day and there was a hissy fit over returning my bass guitar to me (he didn't have his own) which was sorted with a visit to his house by the band. I hated every minute of it. The only positive from that episode was that having played bass for the encore, I played bass more often with that band and ended up being the full time bassist. And ultimately that led me here. 😃6 points

Just because it's a band, it doesn't mean you can't behave like a grown up. I don't think I've ever fallen out with any members of any of my many former bands (first band was in 1990 so have been in quite a few over the years) and a lot of my friends now are people I've met through being in a band with them. I did lose a singer halfway through a gig, he just walked off stage and straight out the door, didn't pass go, but that got smoothed over quickly enough. Yeah, be an adult and communicate openly and it'll all be grand. Life is too short for spending time with emotionally stunted people.6 points

Purchased this on a whim a few years ago with the thought that maybe I'll have another stab at the cover band malarkey again . That did not happen , and it has been sitting at home gathering dust . It comes with a nice fender strap which just clicks in and out by the push of a button . The bass is fitted with EMG pickups and the originals are included also . It also comes with a tin of Warwick surface finisher which smells lovely . The padded Novini GigBag is also included. Not sure about the pricing of this , but im sure there are a few Warwick afficinados who know the score . Price not set in stone ...or wood ! I may not sell at all , as the light feel , contoured body and fantastically fast neck may make me just keep it . it is used ,and for the age the condition is very good imho . However , I think it needs a setup ! Strings ( which still have a lot of life in them yet ) ,were moved to my Jack Daniels bass ..and back again !🤦. This does have the just-a-nut and haven't tried using that yet .I've never posted a bass ,and have no packing equipment . However, if someone is serious then, I could purchase a couple of Bass Guitar Boxes from the Amazon and then you could arrange for courier of your choice to collect. At your cost etc . UK only please.5 points

Here is my MC 924. I was 21 in the early 80’s and I had a choice between this and a British alternative as a pressy. Sometimes I regret not choosing the Wal… As others have said it’s weighty! This one works passive & active but it seems to drain the battery whether the switch is on or off. Gets taken to gigs as the spare but have recorded with it recently. Still sounds great….5 points

I have never posted before but felt I had to chip in. I am a proud owner of the Series-23 # 37, picked it up last week from Status. Although I never played a Status with a graphite neck I have to say my bass looks, sounds and plays fantastic. I am over the moon with it. I had a nice chat with Dawn while I was there, she is a lovely lady, and I was so pleased to hear that Rob is doing well. BTW I did see a couple of headless models while I was there.5 points

I've had loads of simple songs that turned out not so simple after all. Anyone who is dismissive of so-called three chord songs and so-called three chord bands should try playing the songs in question and making them sound good. A classic example would be Status Quo and AC/DC. The songs aren't as simple as some folks presume, and making it swing like those respective bands do is another thing altogether.4 points

This.. ^^^ I get that people become upset at losing their spot in a band, but sometimes the writing has been clearly on the wall and folk haven’t wanted to read it... dragging out a split is much worse than a clean ending.4 points

If a band's not working, from either side, call it a day and move on. I don't own any handbags and I'm never up early enough to see the dawn, so leaving on good terms is all that is left. I get a lot of gigs from guys I played with in previous bands, so doing without the drama is great for my diary.4 points

The 15th South East Bass Bash will be on Sunday 12 November 2023, 10am - 5pm at Jubilee High School, Surrey, School Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 1TE https://goo.gl/maps/SAd62ph7CAYqvVE48 Get the date in your diaries! I'm very pleased to announce that this year (so far!) our first special guest, who after a brief stint as a graphic designer, decided to pursue a career in music which took off when he was asked to join (the then massive in Australia) Icehouse for a world tour at the tender age of 19. In 1983 he supported David Bowie on his legendary ‘Serious Moonlight’ tour. This led to him being spotted and used by the likes of Robert Palmer, Bryan Ferry, Womack & Womack, and even The Smiths amongst others. He was thrust into the global premier league of bassists when David Gilmour asked him to play for Pink Floyd. Yes - Mr Guy Pratt! 😎3 points

*PRICE DROP TO £235 POSTED* I'm selling my hand-wired custom finish Slampegg Bee Pre. It's a really Lovely 12AX7 tube preamp based on the B-15N that gives any set-up tube warmth, presence and sheen. Being the hand-wired version, it can run at about 350v instead of the usual 240v for SMD pedals, with the result being a warmer, fuller sound (as per the SushiBox FAQs). This particular version is from the last custom batch before Sushi Box narrowed the range of options to keep production simple and scale things up. I opted to have it hand-wired and finished in the rainbow's end sparkle finish. It had the misfortune to arrive at more or less the same time as my Noble DI so it's hardly been used. The price is £260 £235 and I'll cover UK Special Delivery postage. It cost me just shy of £310 all in when I ordered it in March 2022 and it's in basically as new condition, so it should be a good deal for someone.3 points

This is a bass with a bit of story.. Bought from here with some damage, looked like it had been dropped and landed on the control knobs so there were some quite nasty cracks the wood. It came up around the time I was lusting for one of these like mad so I pulled the trigger with a view to repairing it. Long story short it didn't go so well and I ended up stripping all the paint off, taking the bass apart and leaving it in bits in my spare room for about 3 years. I was mentioning it to a mate at a gig who sprays cars I'd showed him the Fender Boxer precision in green and told him that's what I had envisioned for it, colour scheme wise, and he offered to take a look at it for me. So I gave it over to him and got it back about a week later with an amazing refinish. I think it's done in Ford's blue wave colour which is one of those colours that's a bit tough to photograph but looks great. You can still slightly see between a couple of the knobs where the damage was but its solid now, and a few other bits and bobs aren't completely perfect, there is a couple of chips from the end of the fretboard where I got the truss rod cover out. I still have the scratch plate somewhere I'll have to dig it out but I left it off at first to save the screw holes going back in. It's working fine and sounding great, could do with a set up and a new set of strings but if you're looking for something a bit different this might be for you. It's currently at my parents so next time I'm there I'll grab a few more photos as I only have the one at the moment.3 points

I've done as much as I should and probably then, too much. still, its a melancholy ditty , It was intended as slower but sounded very durgy , a veritable winding up of the BPM eventually found a compromise. I did think that there would be a race to the moon, to strip whatever minerals would make the most profit, and leave a transparent shell ! Technical ... as if! EZ drummer , with my Ibby 6 string through some Waves Gtr3 patches , Fleabass through a couple of amp sims on Waves again , and an afterthought of piano which I probably shouldn't, still. Alright guys here we go. It’s nearly ready - just waiting for one more flex cable for the power supply. I’ve managed to avoid using the big wall wart for the mutron because Cioks told me it’ll work with two of their 9v battery snaps. Pretty pleased with it - I’ll just get the last couple of bits then get the cable ties out! The patch bay is useful; I’ve got the input, output from the comp and a tuner out from the Valco which is a master bypass. Also I’ve got an emergency 9v battery lined up to the barrel jack so I can power an extra pedal if I need to, off my board. I no longer need the splitter power cable that takes the IEC into the Cioks but it might be useful having a spare IEC under the board. Bonus - it fits in the gig bag (just, the height is a smidge too much but the bag has some ‘give’. When it’s 100% finished I’ll post it in the ‘show us yer pedalboard’ thread😀 Thanks for the help3 points

Our second guitarist who left (see above) was like that as well. Started out really nice and friendly and then gradually started to try and take over everything which wasn`t going to happen as the rhythm section had been doing this since 2015. Example: we were offered a 45 mins slot in a local venue, multi band all dayer, £200 and good exposure for us. All back line provided to allow for a quick turnover. The muppett blew this out the water and said he had to have his own gear, amps, pedals which would have taken a fair bit of time that we didn`t have and no compromise! Funny thing is though dealing with the 2 of them has made me much better at dealing with issues inside the band and made me a stronger person so there is always something to be gained from a bad situation.3 points

This is a common mistake made by players of solid electric instruments who also play acoustic instruments. While on acoustic instruments the body is crucial for shaping and projecting the sound, on a solid electric instrument it is there mostly to have somewhere to fit the bridge (and strings), pickups and controls and have an attractive and/or ergonomic shape. And while the construction and materials used for the body will have an influence on the amplified sound, it is minimal, unpredictable and inconsistent. This is why a lot of the time two identical looking instruments can sound very different when plugged in. Most of the time the materials used are picked mainly for their constructional strength and occasionally for their appearance; although most fancy looking woods are either veneers or thin laminates, glued onto something more practical but boring looking. And this is why you don't really want the body to be resonant, or at least not in the frequencies that you want to project, because then they are being absorbed by the structure of the instrument rather than being captured by the pickups.3 points

We had a second guitarist in the 80s… He was a pain in the donkey. So we auditioned a new guy. During the rehearsal the old guy turned up….. we got the new guy to tell him he was fired, then we fired the new guy too. We’ve been a 3pce ever since. Bands…. Lol3 points

Identity the problem member and then nominate one person to have a word. It's likely to get confrontational if it seems Ike they're being ganged up on with everyone being there. Does the member realise they're causing issues? Only time I was thrown put of a band was in the 80s. It came out of the blue and there were some really flakey reasons given, and by the next week they already had a bass player who knew the set. The band didn't last long after that.3 points

Can honestly say that unless the bridge is defective, the difference it makes from one bridge to another is so subtle you wouldn't be able to notice.3 points

Formed a band with a mate about 15 years ago, we'd have periods of stability then someone would jack it in and we'd find someone else. This went on for about ten or eleven years. Gigging regularly and recording. It was a little like one if those Pete Frame Family Tree things. New vocalist came in. Great pipes, superb lyrics, but clearly saw us as a work in progress. Guitarist left. Drummer left. I found replacements. Vocalist pretty much took MY band and shaped it to his vision. Things went political lyrically (sorry, but no. We weren't The Clash). Suddenly, all members were expendable and despite having an online calender if any of us were unavailable he'd say it's easy enough to find a dep because booking gigs is hard. Individually, all the band were reasonable blokes - even the singer - but collectively it was always 3 Vs 1 or band comes first, even if gigs were booked on birthdays, anniversaries, funerals. Final straw was pretty much being read the riot act the day my father-in-law died, when I said I really couldn't play some basement sh*thole that same night. Amazingly my heartbroken mother-in-law, who'd just lost her husband of 60 years, said I should actually go out and play said gig. Post me they carried on with four different bass players and somehow limped through the pandemic before folding about a year ago. None of the final lineup are doing anything of merit musically (which makes me exceedingly happy as I am).3 points

Try and surface the problems openly and quickly, otherwise things just fester. Compromise is often possible if the real issue(s) is understood. Sometimes though folks just don’t see that it’s worth it and walk. Sadly, I’ve experienced a few band line up changes and they were all disruptive to some extent.3 points

Hi Folks, I’ve decided to move on my rather excellent looking (and playing) p bass by The Bass Monkey. I’ve had this a couple of months myself and bought from here too. I’ve had many p basses over the years and this one is certainly closest to a vintage and ‘worn in’ bass that I can tell. Having said that, I just don’t think I’m a p bass guy. Im not 100% sure what the bass is made from, but it has a Bareknuckle pick up and was put together by Walshy himself, as I believe! From what I know, this retailer at a much higher price when in his shop. For anyone looking for a JJ Burrell inspired bass, you can’t go far wrong with this. I’m looking for £500 (plus postage) which I what I paid for it. Have a proper box, so shipping within the UK is fine. I would be interested in trades for a Spector (NS2000, for example), or a midrange Ibanez SDGR(?) model. Based in Leeds and any trial is welcome. AB.3 points

Here is my contribution to the August 2023 Basschat Composition Challenge, illustrated with a picture chosen by Lurksalot. Yet another doomed effort to get away. It's not to be; the next awakening N° 6 will be back, once more, on The Island ... Two sources here, trying to recreate what I remember of the 'key' elements of '70s 'Prisoner' themes, notably trombones and bongos. Tension-building 'radiophonic' stuff sets an oppressive ambiance, until the inevitable. Philharmonik for the instruments, The Free Orchestra for the atmospheric sounds. My usual Cockos NY 'glue' with Reaper, of course; what else..? Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.3 points

I spent our non-rehearsal last Sunday reminiscing about Rebellion... Hence a punky and slightly garbled musing on collective emotion and tribalism inspired by West Ham's theme tune! Starring me on vox, Wal bass (Ampeg plug in), strat guitar (Bias FX), drum programming (Via EZ), rhythm sequence (Universal PolyMax). Mixed in Doblys and rolled in Ozone 9.3 points

Bought this to use for a bit of noodling on the couch but I find the ridiculously short scale too restrictive, also I have a bit of tendonitis in my thumb and counter intuitively the short scale also seems to aggravate it worse than a full scale! I put some new Aquila thunder blacks on and has since seen about an hours play so they're not even worn in yet. One tiny chip on the very middle top of the headstock I havet attempted to photograph. In great condition, comes with strap, bag and a couple of felt picks.2 points

I think the only people who have left on bad terms in bands I’ve been in have been singers! We always had a policy in our function band of giving a minimum of a month’s notice if you weren’t happy, but some of the singers seemed to want the drama / attention of storming out for some reason. This was usually preceded by weeks of being argumentative, late, sulking etc. We always believed if you’d had enough then just do the decent thing and give notice before leaving. (Unfortunately we also had people who seemed to thrive on conflict and creating bad feeling who didn’t leave!) I’m so fortunate in my current band that everyone is so easy to work with. Any issues are dealt with in the proper way, and there is a genuine feeling of all working for the common good.2 points

If the Wurzels had shown up and played there, I'm fairly certain they'd have had a huge crowd singing along and moshing! Wurzels used to be regulars at my mates local pub, a couple of the Stranglers were regulars as well. All top blokes2 points
