I'm selling this bass on behalf of my husband ......who has just gone down the pub against my advice 🤣 Only kidding! But I AM selling this 1986 fretless bass. The condition is good bearing in mind the bass is 37 years old and has been gigged within an inch of its life. No major dings just minor buckle rash. Just what you'd expect from a well loved, well played instrument. There is a fault on the main volume switch in that it keeps 'going round' and doesn't stop at top volume. This has been an issue for decades and is just part of its charm. And anyway, no-ones perfect are they? (Except me, of course!) Full specs available on WAL website but the important stuff is that it is walnut facings and ebony fretboard. Any questions, just ask away...preferably before closing time.😁 * Price came via web search which revealed a range of prices for this model / age and I have pitched it 'in the middle'. Inspection & offers more than welcome. Thanks for reading!11 points

All the talent in the world can't make up for flakiness. That's why dependable plodders like me don't get fired from bands.11 points

Do the "two in charge" have much previous gigging form? The situation you're describing sounds like one of those projects that never really gets off the ground because some members like the idea of being in a band more than the reality of actually commiting the time and effort to make it happen.7 points

Excuse my ignorance and apologies if all this stuff has posted before but I always thought Leo fender pretty much invented the bass guitar as we know it ( I guess he kind of did) yesterday my mate sent me this ad for this Bud-electro bass https://www.retrofret.com/product.asp?ProductID=9917&name=BudElectro-Serenader-Solid-Body-Electric-Bass-Guitar-c-1940s1960s I then went on a deep dive and it led me to this , it's a fascinating read about Paul and Bud Tutmarc and there part in early electric guitar history https://jivetimerecords.com/northwest/paula-tutmarc/ Here's a 1936 audiovox that was on eBay!!! https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/on-ebay-the-worlds-first-electric-bass-guitar-forgotten-and-made-in-seattle/6 points

This is a sweet Fender jazz with hi mass bridge and Dimarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz pickups added. Im not normally one for messing with stock pups but the previous owner I got it from (on this forum) has made a great call with this mod and the sound is excellent. No dramas or issues, just a lovely playing jazz which will be well packaged for any postage required. Recently restrung with EB reg slinky strings. I have already over stretched on my one in one out policy to two in and none out in the last month and to avoid domestic management decreeing this or another fine piece of craft becomes firewood I need to sell something. Can post within UK.6 points

That's what it's like to be going deaf, and there's no coming back from that! IMO any downsides from hearing protection is a small price to pay for playing in a band AND keeping your hearing.6 points

Reverb, of course. Not sure why anyone would want to buy a used one, even an unused used one, for the same price as a new one, but..5 points

Ok final few days price reduction for my 80’s Yamaha PB400R before it’s withdrawn ! Bought from BB earlier in year and in excellent shape for its age, only couple of small battle scars to the finish. Only thinking of selling to fund another mij P bass as I also have a 79’ Pulsar 400 in immaculate condition, which I’m hanging on to, and happy to keep this too if the mij P I’m looking at sells. Case not included but could be added for bit extra and then I’d be happy to ship it in it5 points

I hope not. The original pickguard on Gene's 77 bass was shaped a little differently and there was more space between the controls.... 🤣 Attention to detail 7/10 🙄5 points

I started on 4-strings, finishing up with a Warwick JD Thumb, which has a really slim and shallow neck. I bought a couple of 5s but the necks were too chunky. Then I bought one off Ebay from Vietnam, and it had just the neck I was looking for. Subsequently I bought a couple of Sei 5s, one fretless and the other fretted, and those also had the shallow necks that I like. I've kept the 4-string Thumb and another that I had defretted and reprofiled to be the same as the JD Thumb, but they're not being used (don't want to get rid of them though). Everything else is 5, 6, or 10 strings. I like the ability to go across the neck - I only occasionally use notes below bottom E. I don't understand why so many people think that the purpose of the B string is only to go below bottom E. It is so much more than that.5 points

I always wear earplugs now for more or less any musical activity. 10db for acoustic sessions (I play Irish trad and fiddles are loud!); 20db if there's a drummer using sticks not brushes. If I was in a loud band I'd want 25db+. The great thing for bass players is that with earplugs in, the higher the level of protection, the better you can hear the important bits: yourself and the kick drum.5 points

They are completely different animals. I would not form any opinion on the custom molds based on the universal ones. 15dB is pretty minimal if you are right next to the PA stack but for goodness sakes put them in both ears!!!!!5 points

NS Design Wav 4 radius in immaculate condition. There really isn’t a mark on it as far as I can see. I’m the second owner and have never gigged it. Only played at home (smoke and pet free). Great headless bass with a piezo bridge, very clever string clamp mechanism so you can use any strings you want and curved body to accommodate that middle aged spread Full disclosure, one of the zips on the gig bag is a bit dodgy. If you go past a certain point it will open but you can avoid it by pulling the other zip a bit further. I took this as a part ex a while ago, but with the recent acquisition of a squier P this is the one bass too many. All the wall hangers are full so this sits untidily on the floor. In terms of trades I don’t really want any more basses at the mo (really?!?) but always worth a punt if you have something interesting or a nice markbass 10x4 cab for example. collection preferred but will pack for your courier at your cost and risk.4 points

Reducing my studio and live set ups so this great DI can go to a new home, I use it with either my Stoneham YI200 head or with my Vanderkley Aurora to FOH and it is a very real sounding DI, great for the Jameson sound or for your guitarist to nail Steve Cropper but it has a magic to it that I can only say needs to be heard compared with other either inbuilt DI or externals. The Acme Audio Motown DI WB-3 brings the exact character of the original 1960’s Motown DI box. The Acme Audio Motown DI WB-3 is built to exacting standards with the same materials as the original unit to recreate the unmistakable tone of those classic records. Unlike most similar units, the Motown DI Wolf Box-3 doesn’t exhibit Low-frequency magnetic saturation which makes it an ideal audio interface / level converter as well as giving providing your sound artillery with a piece of audio legend. Although Al Sutton painstakingly designed the unit to exacting standards, few modern appointments have been introduced, such as an improved variable attenuator to accommodate high-level input and a custom made rugged steel case. Specifically made transformers in these units are built by the original manufacturer after 35 years to provide the exact same performance true to the original. The original Motown DI was a significant part of the Motown sound and were designed by Edward Wolfdrum in the late 50’s were immediately loved by Motown greats for its unique and colourful distortion that can be heard on classic records becoming their signature sound. There are a number of great reviews on line and they rarely appear "preloved" and the price will include postage.4 points

It's in the same price bracket as other recent Gibson Custom Shop models. Also I don't think this is even necessarily aimed at bass players. Kiss have an exceptionally devoted following, especially in the US, many of them pretty affluent. The top tier Kiss memorabilia collectors will want this whether they can actually play the thing or not.4 points

I feel your pain. I’m pretty well-off band-wise at the moment but there was a time when it just didn’t seem to be happening. So, what I did, partly by happy accident, was link up with a guitarist/vocalist and we performed as a duo. We did acoustic blues ( think Eric Bibb, Keb Mo plus older stuff and a few originals) and were pretty busy. I had to step up to the plate and do some vocals, but no one died, on-stage or off 😆. Eventually, contacts I made led back to being in bigger ensembles. So, maybe that’s a way forward for you, especially if you want to do country/Americana. You only need one like-minded, committed partner to find. Plus, it seems gigs are easier to find for solo performers and duos at the moment. Good luck.4 points

One of the only Simmons related basses that really does it for me (on looks alone as I've never played one) is @cetera's Feline Spector SB-1. That's a damn fine looking bass and sounds nice on the videos I've seen. I've never seen one for sale and don't suppose I ever will 🤷♂️.4 points

Personally I feel the polar opposite; I've been screwed over several times and lost goods and money due to paypal's system/decisions... so it has gone wrong! I sold something to someone (not BC) and they claimed via paypal that the goods were broken/faulty on arrival. Goods were returned to me and they got a full refund... only the returned goods weren't the ones I sent and despite my photographic evidence showing different serial numbers they closed the case in the buyer's favour. I also sold an item and the buyer claimed not to have received the item, filed and got a refund. I provided proof of postage AND a signature on receipt but apparently it wasn't the recipients signature so I was left trying to claim from the courier who washed their hands of it as they had a signature from the person at the address it was delivered to. I've had several other disputes via ebay/paypal and it has been a right chew on to get resolution. Hey but we each make our own decisions and each to their own.4 points

Two gigs for me this coming weekend and with two different bands. Saturday 23rd September sees me at Billy Bootleggers in the Ouseburn Delta (Byker) just a short walk east of Newcastle city centre with Ten Bob Blind, a female fronted americana band where I get to slip slide away on fretless P bass and NS EUB. Kick off 17:00hrs, with music from the likes of Buddy & Julie Miller, Shawn Colvin, Lucinda Williams, Thea Gilmore, Steve Earl, Tom Petty and more. If you are coming along why not get yourselves along early and enjoy Bad Bob Bates solo set from 14:00. Sunday 24th September sees me at the legendary Hartlepool Steelies club with Southern Incorporated, our southern rock band. Kick off for this one is 17:30. Lots of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke, Whiskey Myers, and more…..😎4 points

That's what they said. But actually that's not what happened according to OP. The seller and OP concur that the numbers were correct and yet the bank sent the money somewhere else. APP scam literally means the receiver is a scammer being sent money deliberately by a duped bank customer. I call bs on the bank.4 points

More of the same old nonsense. Gene actually played on probably 75 - 80% of all KISS output so that statement is incorrect. His reasons for not appearing on the rest were reasonable enough (away filming/song by bandmember who had written/demoed a suitable bassline already etc) Also, the Carol Kaye thing is a set up. He knows very well how to play bass and was appearing dumb for the publicity. If you haven't realised by now that Gene gets off on all the haters talking about him then you're missing the point.... see, you're all doing it again now As to this Gibson bass. I love the look and it's a cool reissue of his customised EBO from late 76/early 77. Price point is silly but the investors will buy them up and they'll disappear quick enough. I'm looking forward to seeing a circa £500 Epiphone version or maybe a circa £1500 Gibson standard model.4 points

My blues rock trio Toredown have been invited to close the evening for Ipswich Weekender Festival, waterfront on Saturday 23rd 8-9pm. Marvellous! Should be a good event, music all day on a big stage, food, other stuff. Superb location on the heart of the historic docks No flash poster to post, though4 points

I'll more than happily play fretless in pop/ rock. You don't have to "mwaaaah" every note, but when you do it can be special! For a long time my only bass was my first fretless and I used it for classic rock. I now play it occasionally for 2000's indie rock. Just go for it, nobody should be telling you what you can or can't play as long as you're being respectful to the song and the band.4 points

My current board… Buffer/ Tuner/ Mute at the front (with mutable parallel dry signal from the parallel output of the Paradriver) … Then stackable gain stages, Overdrive > Fuzz > Distortion (this board is all about the dirt really) … A touch of space (reverb) … Compression at minimal settings (only bites when digging clean and the dirt isn’t doing the compression) … End of chain EQ/ HPF/ LPF/ DI from the Q strip. This is essentially an ‘ampless’ set up. The front of chain dry parallel signal and end of chain DI both go to the desk, the other end of chain output for additional monitor (power amp/ cabs) if necessary.4 points

Got red flags all over it. You'll find the best players are the flakiest. If you want to get gigging, find the players that want to do that and driven to do it (not just say they are keen do it). Choose the songs to maximise on the abilities of the players, not necessarily the songs that you'd want to do - but you can get sounding tight. The audience rarely know the difference between good players and great players anyway. Best to have a band that is rehearsed and reliable - rather than a band that is always thrown together with deps, or where you are cancelling all the time because of availability. Of course, I don't know if you want to play for money, or purely for enjoyment. If it's the latter, it can be more difficult if you aren't vibeing as much off your band members playing.3 points
-
That's my view...once a rehearsal is in the book, it needs to come off. Am I being too inflexible about that? Honestly, I'm new to bands in the UK (used to the Midwestern US), but I think I need to find an existing band that already has a following and active gig diary. This startup stuff is proving to be frustrating...especially when you're not in charge. I also think it is easy to say "just quit", but I don't have anyone knocking down my door for my services, although I am a proficient player, have my own good quality PA, and good transportation..oh, and I show up to both gigs and rehearsals...:)3 points

I’m not especially nostalgic and so I never used to bother keeping stuff, just because I moved house so often and would declutter each time. But after 40 years I’ve still got a load of AAA festival lanyards and venue wristbands in a bag somewhere. The odd gig poster or flyer or ticket stub in a box, maybe some photos (definitely some Polaroids) etc. Some handwritten crib sheets with percussion charts on them too. I don’t even have physical copies of everything I’ve played on but I’ll buy them if I see them cheap. But the only set list I have kept is this one from a gig in Bulgaria in 2015. I was on a session gig and sneakily took a pair of scissors to everyone’s set lists and placed them onstage, so the first time they saw them by their monitors, they’d see this: When we got onstage everyone couldn’t stop laughing throughout the gig. It’s not big or clever or even particularly funny, it was just the unexpected factor that made the other players laugh.3 points

We contacted the bank again after getting a bit of an odd e mail in which the bank said that nobody was subjected to a scam and went on to say that we were in dispute with the seller!! So we can't take your claim further so we are raising a payment recall...which means they will contact the receiving bank and ask for the cash back. That as we know points to a bank error! As mentioned by some folk. The lady said not to be worried about it but contact them again next week if we don't hear anything. She also said she had never seen anything like this before!!.....3 points

ACS Customs are great. Even cheap ACS plugs are good but the customs are on a different level. You have to protect your ears, you don't get second chances with your hearing. You can feel a bit disconnected at first while wearing them but after two rehearsals you'll be used to it.3 points
-
After damaging my hearing when young in stupidly loud bands, it's now too painful for me to have excessive volume on stage. I used to wear decent earplugs but recently I bought an XR18 and now the band have gone in ears, with the exception of our new singer who's not used to them and uses a monitor. However, a second band I've just started up are still in the old 'valve amps' stage and while it's not that loud, the overall volume is out of my control. So what I'm doing is running a signal to the XR18, even if it's not going from there to FoH, and then creating my own monitor mix to my in ears and thus can now control the volume to a certain extent. Overall benefit though, apart from reducing volume, is the quality of the monitor mix I hear which is totally under my control and makes a huge difference live.3 points

Dakota red Harley Benton JB62 bought nearly six months ago. Basses have come and basses have gone and some have even come and gone in the time I've had this 😁 It arrived with what must have been some blunt shock damage. Chip out the face of the headstock and strap pin at the end of the body has been pushed further into the body and is now at an angle with some paint missing. Was going to start a claim/return process with it but there was no damage to the boxes etc so I thought to myself how that one was going to pan out as they were asking for pics of damage to the shipping boxes etc. Anyway decided to keep it and have it as my noodling bass in the spare room. Unlike my other basses it doesn't live in a case or a bag and sits on a 3 guitar stand by my amp. Strung it with flats and set it up and to my mind it's a pretty cool bass. I've taken it as back up to a couple of pub gigs the last couple of months and it doesn't really ever factor in any of my selling plans. Colour looks a lot better in the flesh so to speak. Does everything I need it to and for £125 it's a keeper!3 points

Get some made properly by ACS. They will fit your ears perfectly and you can swap the filters in them for different attenuation levels. The attenuation will be pretty flat too - just like having a lower volume. Your singer is killing his hearing. You'll be needing a new one at some point.2 points
