  3. Vincent Metropol in the gorgeous Celeste Blue finish up for grabs. This bass is an absolute joy to play and due to its honeycomb chambered body comes in at just 3.3kg or 7lb 4oz! This is pretty astonishing for a full sized Jazz style bass. It is very resonant and sounds great unplugged. This is emphasised when you plug it in, the Haussel pickups sound full and thick and provide you with all the classic Jazz bass tones. I love it but am having a bit of a bass cull at the moment. More to be listed shortly. Comes complete with the rather plush and very robust Vincent gig bag.

  4. Now £1500 Sorry to see this one go. Open to offers, but no trades thanks. 2014 Nash PB-57. Black with maple fretboard. Imported from Humbucker Music in the states in 2018. Originally sold by Chicago Music Exchange. I’ve priced based on the price of other Nash used guitars sold more recently. A used one from the states or Europe will cost you this or more after shipping and import duties. These don’t come up often in the UK and the few retailers who sell them rarely have stock. This has a factory heavy relic. it had a sticker on its back for much of its life, this has been removed but evidence can be seen in certain lights. Please see the picture below. This bass has some real mojo. Low action and a nice growl thanks to the Nash custom wound Lollar pickup, I believe these are wound slightly hotter than the standard Lollar P pickup but not quite as hot as the overwound version. note: there are a few pickguard screws missing in the pictures but have since been replaced with suitable aged ones. Just set up with some Daddario 45-105 strings. Comes with the original Nash hard case (not pictured) collection from Alrewas DE13 or I will meet a buyer at a mutually convenient locations. Postage is available for £50 but I'd prefer to avoid this.

  5. Progress is a bit stop start at the moment with life's many distractions, but a few steps forward this morning. I got my 'I can't remember where I bought this and it's not perfect but actually does a pretty decent job' purfling/binding router jig out and attacked the top: Both channels done and just waiting a razor-blade trim of the whiskers: For both the purfling and binding I will use my preferred method - a la veneer - of PVA on both surfaces, left to dry and then iron them on with a small travel iron. The purfling didn't need pre-bending and I just went ahead with ironing it on - I'll take photos of the method when I do the binding. The binding is ebony (or was it rocklite?) with a teeny white stripe: I won't actually fit it yet, but I have started pre-bending the binding for the top as the bending pipe was still handy: I've also started sorting the end graft - it will be a simple one, really just joining the top and back binding and thin white lines. I have sawn and chiselled the end graft slot: The top and bottom binding won't be fitted until the back is on and channel routed. Then, all being well, the end graft will tally up both sides something like this:

  6. Quite happy with the roadworn bits, it was either that or get it resprayed and I don't think it's worth that kind of money. Scratchplate was courtesy of @PaulThePlug, thanks very much Paul, I've saved the main plate of the bridge, the saddles and the springs, the grub screws and the intonation screws were a bit too rusty to rescue so I've been able to order those from eBay. The pickup covers were rough so I've ordered a couple of those, plus a new set of knobs, just waiting for Northwest Guitars to get a set of machine heads in stock, then I can start putting it all together.

  8. Fender AM Pro II Precision. Excellent condition but has been modified. Comes with original Fender Deluxe Moulded Case. Hipshot drop tuner on the E string. Monty's Guitars Retro wind precision pickup. Our Retro wind P-bass pickup is a uniquely Monty’s take on vintage P-bass tone. Based on the pickup from a 1970 P-bass and fine-tuned with a few little tweaks, this pickup has a vintage voice that perfectly balances depth and clarity. Collection from DE13 Alrewas or I can meet within a reasonable distance. Postage is available for £50 but I'd prefer to avoid this.

  13. *Now SOLD pending the usual* Squier Vista Series MusicMaster Bass Black version from 1996 Original Vista Series pickup, original electronics In fact, all original apart from the scratchplate pictured but I will provide the original (white/parchment in colour) 30" scale length but through-body stringing means 32" scale length strings required. It's got a few blemishes and whatnot as you'd expect with its age, but have tried to capture everything as best as I can on the photos. Please get in touch if you need any other info.

  18. I’ve made progress with the neck. I’ve learned a lot through building this. I should have done more prep on the neck and body prior to gluing but I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to take. I’ve wiped it down with some white spirit to get an idea of how we are looking. There is one picture without the spirit on. I still have some scratches to get out but I’m getting there. Then I need to get the body sanded.

  19. That said you have to start somewhere, so using Fender's pickup height adjustment chart is a very good start and they are very close to the best settings, you'll only need slight adjustments afterwards.

  20. **Final Price drop to 1350GBP** I'm in the process of downsizing my bass collection - for sale here is a very rare Warwick Nobby Meidel from 1983 - this is number 19! Included in the sale is the original stand, strap extension, straplocks and a brand new ABS hardcase to keep the bass safe during shipping! The bass was built in 1983 and is all original except for the strap extension and the straplock buttons and straplocks, and of course the strings! The bass has been well looked after but as you would expect from a 40 year old instrument, there are signs of wear and some other minor cosmetic flaws - all of which have been shown in the photos - particularly the last 8 photos. The bass was recently in the hands of a local luthier to give it a once over. It has just had new strings put on and a set-up done. The truss rod was also examined and it operates perfectly. I will include an allen key for adjusting the truss rod as regular ones dont fit due to the tight access As you would expect from a 40 year old bass, there is some wear to the frets but there is plenty of life left in them yet. Weight is 3,23Kg/7,12lbs Here are the details for this particular bass. These details are kindly provided by Warwick CEO Hans-Peter Wilfer: Nobby Meidel well it is one of the first ones... you are lucky... No. 19.... must be some there from April / May 1983.... not later... wow you are really lucky... - Bass Nobby Meidel Serial Number 019 Year 1983 Month April or May Number 019 Neck Wood Rosewood with Maple lamination Stripe Fingerboard Rosewood with mother of Pearl Dot Inlays Frets Jumbo Warwick Frets Zero Frett Nut Brass NM Headstock Version Neck construction Neckthrough Body 4 pcs. lamination, solid Rosewood Surface natural Highpolish Pickups passive Schaller PJ Pickups Electronic passive MEC Electronic Hardware Gold Hardware made by Schaller Made in West Germany / Pretzfeld / Franconia I hope this assist you .... very rare model these days.. If you have any questions please let me know. The bass will be shipped inside the brand new ABS hardcase. The bass will be well packed within the case with plenty of additional packaging. The ABS hardcase will ship within a shipping carton. Shipping to the UK is 105GBP including full insurance.

  21. Hi all Selling this beauty of an Ashdown amp head I'm the second owner and it has been stored all its life in the supplied carry bag which is a handy addition. In good condition with only a few minor scratches on top which don't break the surface (pictured) 800 watts weighing 4.5kg, full specs here: https://ashdownmusic.com/products/rm-800 In the interests of full disclosure - the EQ on/off button can be a bit temperamental when pushing on/off. However with a couple of tries it works fine. I didn't find this problematic as I never understood the need to turn the EQ off! However it's best a buyer knows this just in case Yours for the princely sum of 31p per watt - or £250 in old money, plus fully insured postage to UK which I would estimate at a tenner maybe. Please PM me with any questions Thanks for looking! Danny

  22. Overrated - Vintage gear Underrated - Controversially, the Stingray. Think in recent years, its fallen out of favour a bit, and as such, represents a used bargain. Back in the 90s every indiie band had one....now, a bit under the radar?

  26. Websites and press releases have a habit of catching up with you. I used to play in a pub rugby team called Old StreetOnions. The team was based around Old Street in London. I played with them as I worked at The Independent which was just down from Old St. The club is still there and far more professional now. We weren't very good to be honest. What we were very good at, was writing press releases to the Highbury and Islington Gazette. For those of you before social media, we used to have local newspapers. Rather quaint in hindsight. Anyway, I'd dutifully write up the game, double space it, double line it on Monday morning and send it to the Gazette and they'd print it verbatim. After a while, I got bored so I'd make stuff up, little white lies, I suspect its a bit like a drug addiction, I thought I could handle it and just make it a bit more interesting. Whatever I write the Gazette kept printing it verbatim. For them, this was 1/4 or 1/8 of a page free words, so they were happy. I was still bored so we started getting more and more outrageous in our 'little white lies'. We looked at lottery funding, we were going to try and get planning permission for our Stadium of Light on Hackney Marshes. We had warm weather training in Lanzarote during winter, one of the team caught maleria during winter training, the treasurer ran off with the funds for the stadium and the police were tracking him down. No lie too outrageous, the Gazette printed it all, every word. We finally came unstuck when we said the captain had made Tai Chi mandatory for all the forwards so they could connect to their inner self. The BBC picked up on this from the Gazette and splashed it across their national news at 08:00 as a "A team in London have taken up Tai Chi to get fit.... " to add some fun. It then took off, Sky picked up on it, all the rugby playing countries around the world picked up on it and we were being chased for interviews and pictures. We were all fat blokes playing rugby for fun. Nowadays we'd say it went viral. We finally came down to earth when the Telegraph really investigated us. We got a half page in national newspaper on a Saturday in the sports pages where they debunked everything but realised it was all done with a cheeky grin. I lost the copy of the article when we moved which was a great disappointment. So the moral of this story is, choose your social media experiment with care, we went global very quickly and just as quick came down to earth. However it was great and I wouldn;t have changed it for anything. Rob

  27. Just got an OC5 I need to get to grips with. Also managed to grab a good deal on the Dude Incredible which is essentially Steve Albini in a box, it’s aimed at guitar obviously but the Harmonic Percolator and IVP sound surprisingly good on bass too. need to extent the pedal riser to beaten it up.

  33. Hi All. Sadly my long time friend and band mate Nigel Baker (Bumnote on Chat) passed way earlier this year. Nigel had a great Bass collection with many fine pieces such as this lovely, three tone sunburst G&L SB-2 with Rosewood fingerboard. The Family have asked me to sell on his instruments and this is the first Ad I've placed here on Basschat. Serial No B022659 manufactured in 1993/94. This is a great sounding professional instrument. Trust me , I know - I've stood next to it on stage many times over the years and I was always impressed by the driving power and 'punchyness' of the tone Nigel used to get out of it. Certainly one of his favorites, and mine. The Bass is In excellent condition - comes with G&L hard case. All in all, a great bass which I've priced to sell. This is now a bargain, and well worth the money for such a fabulous instrument. I'm in Southampton, Hampshire UK. Would prefer pick up collection but willing to drive (meet half way (ish)?). Will also arrange shipment, fully insured, for approx. £30. 0.

  36. Gorgeous Sei PJ 4. I'd had my eye on this bass for around 6/7 years and finally got the chance to purchase it summer last year. It is wonderful in every respect but somehow I just don't gel with it, I can't explain that.... As you can see it's a traditional P body style and a very retro tele headstock. Every other aspect of the bass is pretty modern though. Finish is burgendy mist, matching headstock Alder body, maple through neck Rosewood board, beautifully figured 24 fret, 34 scale (it might be a fraction under 34 - 33 7/8 ish..) Slim jazz neck - I would describe it as a racing neck Weight approx 4kg based on my not particularly accurate scales Satin chrome hipshot tunes, drop key on the E string East preamp - vol/blend, passive tone w push/pull for passive, bass/treble stack with high frequency boost pull, mid/mid freq stack White side LEDs Nordstrand pickups Comes with a retro tweed hardcase sale or trade, I’m looking for a quality 4/5 p or j, passive. Molloon for example…

  37. Arrived today from Andertons and it’s just as amazing as I remember when I got one a while back. EQ is so simple but works ( easier than my old CTM100) The depth to the notes is something to behold.. now I recall why I like all valve heads… they just sound glorious Pbass straight in, pick played rock it just works .. perfect match. Its heavy but so is my SVT212AV cab !! Will be at rehearsals tomorrow ready for first gig with it Saturday 🤟

  38. For Sale: Music Man Stingray 5H Special, black with roasted maple board + case, in immaculate condition For sale in the UK only Current online retail price for this bass in UK is £3199. You already know how good these sound! Lovely 5 string bass in pristine condition, no scratches or marks. Lovely slim neck on these with 44.4mm nut and only 62mm neck width at 12th fret. It's not been out of the house and hardly used as I'm struggling to move from 4 to 5 strings. Hence the great condition. Nice and light too for a 5'er at 8.8lbs. Fitted with black straplocks and comes with the two strap fittings as well (also black). Fitted with unused DR nickel Low Riders round-wound. Comes with its immaculate hard case and the candy and also a black SR2 Zero Mod (unused) to rest your thumb on. I'm not looking for trades on this one. You are welcome to come and look / play if you're near the Wycombe area. I will post this within the UK with ParcelForce Express 48 for £20 (uninsured) and I have a cardboard box for it to go in. Any questions, please ask away.

  40. Overrated for me would be: Markbass LMII - bombproof and very reliable, but I could not get a good sound out of it, dull and lifeless like my cab had a big quilt over it. Aguilar Tonehammer amp and DB/GS cabs - again so so solid and reliable, gigged them for a while but the sound was just very dull and I was always fiddling with the amp and never happy. Underrated: EBS Reidmar - bought to replace my Markbass which was stolen. Worlds apart tone wise, clear, massive headroom, way more volume and just so tight and punchy. I didn’t care for the design of the casing but I barely ever fiddled with it at gigs. Designacable - I am so surprised more people aren’t buying custom cables from these guys. I used them a few times for custom coloured cables at a time when most people just offered black. I have used coloured cables for years so no one can ever “accidentally” pick mine up and put them in their gig bag. Way cheaper than a lot of branded cables from bigger companies as well.

  43. I'll be bringing my Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.2, it should fit the bill quite nicely? I have never had stage fright of any sort in 40 years of gigging, but that would make me nervous. I'd have a go as long as I wasn't the only one? I could perhaps throw in a few fingerstyle and pick bits from the previous night's ska set as it'd be fresh in my mind but my slap chops ain't what they used to be.

  45. It's not outrageous - I know I'm of zero use in this instance being neither near London nor in possession of a Reverend Decision P, but I'd get the kettle on for any BCer wanting to try out a bass of mine for research purposes. Although I would say that distance selling regulations are your friend in this respect - you know what you want and it'd cost you a lot less than a trip to Glasgow to send the bass back to Glasgow if you decided it wasn't for you... Good luck!

  47. You adjust the pickups height to whatever sounds best to you. The Fender measurements are purely a guide, don't get that mixed up with fact! So set the pickups fairly low and raise each in turn to whatever sounds best to you. You'll know if you've gone too high as the sound will start to wobble, then screw back down a little. Strings, pickups, neck wood etc all plays a part, so tune it to whats best to your own ears.

  48. **SOLD** The downsizing of my bass collection continues... For sale is a Warwick Streamer Stage II from Warwick's "golden era" - where the instruments were hand-built to the highest quality using the very best components - solid brass bridges, Gotoh tuners, brass nuts etc. The sale includes a brand new Gator hardcase to keep the bass safe during shipping! The bass was built in 1991 but has been lovingly looked after as it is almost completely free of blemishes - there is only one very tiny dent on the top of the headstock - as shown in the photos. Other than that, the bass is near perfect and all original(except the strings of course!). It has also just had a fresh wax, the fretboard cleaned and oiled, new strings put on and a complete clean, service and set-up done. The service and clean included: Every part of the bridge was taken apart and thoroughly cleaned. During the reassembly, all of the adjustment screws received a little oil to protect them and to ensure they function smoothly and prevent rust. The electronics also received some love with all of the potentiometers receiving a thorough clean with a high quality contact cleaner. They all operate without any issues! The truss rod was also examined and it operates perfectly. As you would expect from a 32 year old bass with brass frets, there is significant wear to the frets but there is plenty of life left in them yet. The Streamer Stage II model needs no introduction as it is already known as a sound monster. It is one of Warwick's flagship models and is played by many top players around the world! To buy a new Stage II today will cost you around €7500!! The heavily contoured body makes this bass super comfortable to play. The bass is very versatile thanks to the active/passive switching and 2-band preamp and the electronics feature a trim pot on the pre amp that allows you to adjust the midrange as well. Bass: Streamer Stage II 4 strings Serial number: B 659 91 Year: 1991 Month: February Number: 659 Neck: Wenge wood with Afzelia lamination Fretboard: Wenge wood - with mother of pearl Ying Yang Inlays Frets: Bronze Warwick frets Nut: Just-a-Nut brass version Neck construction: Neck Through Hidden-neck construction Body: 3 pieces of solid Afzelia wood Finish: Oil finish / Beeswax finish Pickups: Active MEC JJ pickups Electronics: Active MEC 2 band electronics with trimpot(controls midrange pre-set) Hardware: Gold hardware made for Warwick Made in Germany / 91130 Eggolsheim If you have any questions please let me know.
