More of a how was your gig this week- a run of 9-5 at the local 400 seat theatre. All the other shows I’ve done this year have been Rogers and Hammerstein so it’s great to get some decent lines and there’s loads of different genres in the show- plus THAT figure- a lot. First show I’ve done on click. As ever in-ears/ click are a blessing and a curse, when it works it’s brilliant, if it’s slightly wrong, and the tech crew have had difficulties on the company’s budget, it’s a proper ballache. Sound man had complimented the envelope filter however, as I remind myself each night to turn it on.13 points

Ok, it was yesterday, or maybe the day before... Cheap and pretty damned cheerful! After some basic tweaks, it played well. Will do a more extensive setup once the Fender 9050 flats turn up. Squier Sonic Precision Bass in California Blue.10 points

After a long time thinking about it and flip flopping on choice of a new bass, I spotted this online and it instantly drew all my attention. I have looked at Btb's for several years and nearly bought one in the USA a few years back. I always thought i could never do an instrument like this any justice when it came to playing. It turns out i don't care 🤷♂️ Still playing around with the mid frequency switch and discovering what it does. So far it's incredible , nicely set up straight from the box , neeeearly in tune with one or two strings needing a tweak only. 5 string is entirely new to me and so is multi scale and i have to say i'm loving both. That low B string...oh man that sounds goooood. Clear as a bell , meaty as hell. Love me some beef. The sounds it can push out are punishing my little 25W orange amp , the poor little 8" speaker was farting its life away at a tiny tweak of bass boost with the amp eq flat. Good enough reason for something else i reckon 😬 Here are the obligatory pictures , the only i have taken so far6 points

Just wanted to post my thoughts on these after acquiring a set from old slapper of this parish. They were bought to replace what i assume are the original pickups in my 1985 Japanese 57 reissue bass. Nothing particularly wrong with the originals but they were just a bit...dunno - boring/bland. I was maybe looking for a little more growl or complexity in the mids but didnt want to sacrifice any low end. They arrived this morning and i soldered them in and fired up my ABM..... SWEET BABY JESUS AND THE ORPHANS!?!?!?!?! There is more of EVRYTHING and they sound positively HUGE. Certainly louder than the old ones but also a real beef or weight to the sound. Definitely of the vintage vibe (which obviously my flatwounds will help with) but just a glorious roar of a sound with no shrillness or thinness to it. Very impressed seeing the price they go for! Cant wait to try them out in a live setting with the band5 points

I've always thought as value as being held by the owner - i.e they value it at the price they offer it for. (Edit) I understand this is different to the market value, but in some ways it can dictate the perceived value in a given market. Look at 70s Fenders - they haven't changed, but the price has gone up because sellers are asking for more, people buy them and feel they have done well, perception of the 70s period changes somewhat because it's driven by new enthusiasts who have literally invested in it...5 points

Here is my Eminence bass for sale. It’s arguably the best and most authentic EUB (it’s effectively a shrunk down double bass) on the market, bar a super expensive Kolstein. It’s fitted with Spirocore Weichs and has been professionally set up. It plays and sounds great! The bass has some wear including scratches and nicks, but ultimately it’s a gigging bass and that’s what happens. There is one scratch that looks like a crack (pictured) but it isn’t! Comes with the Eminence case. This is the fixed neck model, not the removeable neck one. Collection in Bristol only. Price is pretty firm as I can and do still use this.4 points

Lack of use and some impending bills means I need to make a bit more of an effort to sell my Proton. It sounds great, I particularly love the down sweep, and I like owning it, but I have barely turned it on since buying it. I have no use for it in my band so it seems a waste to just look at it. This is in the raw metal type casing, and I have done my upmost to keep it clean and stop it oxidising and changing in colour. It has been kept on a pedal board, in a case with silica packets to prevent any moisture getting to anything, but it seems they are impossible to keep mint. It has two very small strips of 3M Dual Lock on the bottom which I am happy to take off before selling. Comes with box and instructions. I am happy to wrap it up and post if collection isn’t possible.4 points

I’m going to be controversial and say that this is the result of weak, dysfunctional politics. The facts are clear, it’s possible to measure the power of an amp or a speaker at home with basic equipment but we allow manufacturers to lie about it in print all the time. Governments in the past have legislated to protect consumers. Germany with the DIN standards, America with AES, British Standards and so on. This is then identified as being “nanny state”, “red tape gone mad” etc. and funding for regulatory enforcement is slashed. The lies and disinformation then continue. We are complicit in this by voting for politicians who tell us we can have it all without having to contribute to a well run and funded society. So, getting back to the question ‘ they’ give you peak power because they can get away with it. Because everyone else is doing it. Because you can’t sell a 200W AES amp if you don’t describe it as 400 W peak, 800W music or 1600W PMPO. Mainly though because it isn’t illegal to try and deliberately deceive you. It should be the role of government to protect people from vested interests and not to be scooped up and owned by them.4 points

Price £800 Collection from Stowmarket suffolk or can post for around £20, message for price. I will replace the missing machine head screws next week American USA Standard 4 string bass. Comes with an Aguila pre amp professionally fitted by Martyn Booth of Martyn Booth guitars. Been a sturdy, loyal servant and sounds great. The Aguila ore amp sounds punchy and adds to the sound. Maple neck Plays and feels great but could do with a setup as there is some fret buzz on the top frets on the G string. Has some wear on the sides of the neck and head and there is a paint chip on the side and some scratches on the front and marks, see pics, but overall in a good condition. Only selling because I don't gig or play much now and only need 1 bass. Comes with a hardcase and Fender truss rod adjuster.3 points

Totally amazing player But so far the album sounds like the soundtrack to a 70s cop show….. you know…. when the police are chasing the bad guys down a back alley in San Francisco….. in a gold sedan with a magnetic red flashing light on the roof….. crashing through piles of empty cardboard boxes with a box of donuts on the dashboard.3 points

Dark, to me, is a lack of top end clarity and sparkle. Not necessarily muddy, but more mid and bottom than top. I had a 60s fender jazz that wasn’t as bright as my 70s jazz, mostly because the bridge pickup placement is different. I used to describe that bass as sounding darker than the other.3 points

Extremely rare in Europe, this had to be imported from Japan and is a non export Aerodyne in vintage white. matching headstock. Everything has been shrunk by 6% I believe as the body, pickguard etc are all smaller than regular aerodyne. This bass also features a traditional bass pickup configuration unlike the the regular aerodyne. The model is AJBM (Aerodyne Jazz Bass Medium) I have the original fender box it came from Japan in and will post to U.K mainland or you can collect free from PE27 3FW. Lat picture is it hanging next to an American pro ii bass at the same height to show size comparison Any questions please feel free to ask.3 points

The marketplace is an odd one. From a guitar perspective, I see an awful lot of very similar kit - dozens of posts for Fender Precision and Jazz basses, along with a proliferation of Stingrays; it's almost like it's getting to the point where there needs to be sub-forums by manufacturer! The trends within the Basses For Sale threads as well...there'll be nothing for sale made by (for instance) Lakland, then there's a few for no reason. Almost as if one guy decided to sell, them several other people see that and decide to follow suit.3 points

Lack of surplus income I would think. Borrowing is getting more expensive and harder to do and inflation is still not moving in the right direction. Political unrest is not helping matters.3 points

They're a box shifter, if they checked everything they sent out the prices would have to be higher - if you want set-up checks done you need to go to a brick & mortar shop (pref a good one as the rubbish ones probably still wouldn't check) & pay the extra for the privilege.3 points

It's a very expensive minidisc player. Mark's never been able to replicate the session bassist's tracks that were recorded for the albums live, so he's always mimed to backing tracks on minidiscs. The thumb insurance malarkey is the biggest scam ever waiting to happen once his career tails off. PS I might've made that up. 🤫3 points

And compounded by the obscene soaring prices of new gear…. times are getting harder, people have less disposable income, but the prices keep rising….. I agree, there are some really beautiful basses on here (there always is), but I for one am getting less and less able to afford anything. I do love to browse and dream though, and there are tons of bargains to be had.3 points

Roland Boutique SH-01A Module and K-25m Keyboard Superb modern version of the legendary Roland SH101 with sequencer. It can be used with any midi keyboard but comes complete with the mini version which it slots into nicely. The unit has a tiny speaker and works off batteries or USB so very portable. It’s a well made synth and has some weight for the size of it. Comes with USB lead, keyboard and the module has the original box. Lots of great reviews online the most thorough being Nick Batt on Sonic Lab YouTube channel. Synth has lots of options and a great bass sound. In excellent condition - like new really. UK only no trades. Postage will be around £123 points

Our set seemed to go down well at last night’s Jam Night - the crowd joining in and plenty of good comments. We had 2 or 3 new bands turned up, including one from one of the local sixth form colleges for whom it was only their 2nd time playing live. It’s good to see kids performing live and looking like they are enjoying it. Which is more than can be said for me in this one - I was having to concentrate too much on the bass line, so forgot to provide much in the way of backing vocals and didn’t manage to smile once😃😃😃. https://youtu.be/n_CpuEX8P3g?si=2NKuvaoqPktgdt8q2 points
