Here's the latest iteration of my pedalboard. As you can see I am limiting myself to boss pedals at the moment (apart from the thumpinator). I have just today replaced my LMB-3 Bass Limiter Enhancer with the more advanced — and hopefully less hissy BC-1X Bass Comp. I also have a CEB-3 Bass chorus which I took off the board when I bought the AW-3 Dynamic Wah recently. As my board (The most excellent Harley Benton Spaceship Power 50C) has now run out of space, I'll try to not aquire any new pedals for a while, however if a secondhand BB-X1 Bass driver in excellent condition pops up at a good price, the Monte Allum modded ODB-3 might be evicted depending on the results of a shootout.8 points

I've only been playing for a year, and not practising as much as I should due to life being busy etc etc, and I'm not very confident in terms of technical ability, but I've finally learned how to read tabs and during the last couple of months something has "clicked" in terms of understanding what the bass is there to do. I might not be a great bass player, but it makes me happy in a way that nothing else does, and I'm grateful for that.6 points

G&L L2000 USA late 89 90 ish fender signiture pre fender law suit bass Well sometimes you have to let a few gems go, and here is one of them. This if from my G&L collection, and i have had this since about 92 when i px my stingray for it for the extra sounds it had over the stingray it was 2nd hand then but not used so its about 89 90 ish, i sold it once to a chap that never used it and kept it under his bed so i bought it back of him, Its in amazing condition and really belongs in a collection, it has fenders logo on the headstock which leo was forced to remove by fender, i do have along with its original warrante cards a letter which was sent to all the uk distributers telling them of the lawsuit and all G&L products will no longer carry the leo fender name, so here is a rareish bass that slipped in just under that date, its in its original case, also in amazing condition, it still has the curved finger board left over from the E series like they did on the early fenders and also has the "B" serial number like the early Musicmans, its all original and unmolested, and sounds great, i have used it on a few recordings and released tracks, and on one live tape, a shame to see it go after such a long time owning it but, we are all just keepers for now, so up for grabs is very nice getting on 40 year old bass in stunning condition not to be missed as i am sure it will be a long time before another as good will pop up. im not asking alot all things considered, just a fair price for a great bass, i will take a px for studio outboard gear, or a px/swap for a fretless L2000 ( Unlined fingerboard only please) i don't need other basses amps or fx thank you So...im looking for at the mo........ yamaha REV7 or REV5 Reverb units yamaha Pro R3 reverb, TC Finalizer, Electrix Mo Fx, Novation KS Rack synth G&L L2000 Fretless (consider jazz fretless unlined only) Mackie D8B Desk Mackie HDR OR MDR 24 track Recorders Old Roland TD5 drum brain (TD5 only) frontier apache adat patch Korg synth 01/w (not M1s) Nord Electro or stage 88 Nord synth collection is from ellesmere port only or org your own collection, but would pref it collected so you can try it. cheers all all his friends are sad to see him go, i think they are throwing a party for him... arrrr thats nice of them 🙂5 points

Ahhh, it breaks me to do this, but needs must.... For sale my immaculate Fender FSR (Fender special run) Precision bass in Electron Green! Reportedly only 200 made. These are fantastic basses. Not too heavy for a P bass and easy to play. They sound and record great. The colour is amazing. It should be awful, but it's not. It's lovely. It brings a bit of joy when you look at it. The list price is the lowest I will accept. It represents great value especially with the rare colour and condition. Does not come with case pictured. Collection Leyland Lancashire.5 points

I quite liked Clive Dunn's reggae phase. "Permission to Toast, Sir?" and "They Don't Like It Uptown" are dub classics.5 points

Apart from, everybody expected the Spanish Inquisition... Firstly Pope Lucious 111 declared the first inquisition in 1184, nearly 300 years before the actual Spanish one started, so they had time to get ready. And if 300 years notice wasn't enough, the Inquisition actually gave thirty days' notice. This was a thirty-day grace period during which heretics could voluntarily confess and avoid serious punishment. And these "Edicts of Grace" were read publicly after Sunday mass, so everybody expected the Spanish Inquisition. However, with time, these edicts were phased out, anonymous denunciations became more common, and more people were detained without warning, in a more Python-esque manner. Of course, by that time, the Inquisition had become of the most powerful, infamous, and universally known forces in Spanish life, so I'm not sure it could truly be said to be unexpected then either. But nobody expects the Death Metal Comparison!5 points

I've had a few slightly negative experiences (and one broadly positive) with BD in the last few years which I didn't feel totally comfortable posting here. I was actually driving past the shop in the last week (it's hundreds of miles from me) and I opted to book an appt at BassBros instead as I didn't want to go away with that disappointed feeling again. However: today I was after a particular preamp and BD had it at a good (the best) price, so I took a punt, and within practically minutes it was on its way to Royal Mail and it should be with me tomorrow - absolutely great (online!) service!5 points

For sale. A wonderful 'Greco' P Bass from the Japanese factory that produced basses for Fender back in the day. These basses are great instruments and are sought after by those in the know. This is a particularly fine example. Serial Number E 812272 dates it as a 1981 instrument (as far as I can tell) and you can see it's been well looked after by its excellent condition. Finished in a lovely three tone sunburst. Guitar was owned by the bass player from Southern England club band 'Creative Covers' and was acquired by my mate Nigel (Bumnote) from his Wife after the guy passed away a couple of years back. Nigel has, sadly, also taken an 'early bath' (April this year) and his Wife has asked me to sell on his Bass collection ( he had 11 - really had the bass bug). Interestingly, a previous owner (or maybe factory fitted? I can't tell) has added a novel string damper device that really works well - easy to use - just flip the lever and hey presto. A useful addition I think. Apart from a few very minor scratches and the odd ding (see pics), none of which are highly visible or detract from the beauty of the instrument, this Bass is in remarkable condition for it's age and I'm sure that the player who buys this beauty will be 'over the moon' with it. Looks, sounds and handles like a P Bass should. Good quality gig bag s included. I'd prefer collection/pick up but can arrange fully insured parcel delivery for an additional (approximately) £205 points

Just been having a bit of fun learning the bass line to Thriller for a Halloween gig coming up. Loving how a relatively simple 7 note riff can become such a massive / iconic hook! Seems to me MJ was particularly good at doing that and Bruno Mars has taken a leaf or two out of his book. What are your favourite song(s) where the bass line is the hook? Please feel free to post a YT clip...I'm just feeling that posting a clip of the original Thriller ain't going to add to the sum human knowledge for any of us, haha! We did, however, have a look out for a version we could do with much more modest instrumentation and playing capability than MJ had at his disposal...and we really liked what this crew had come up with:4 points

For sale, this lovely Fender Player Jazz Bass in Black, with Maple fretboard. This is a great bass, which sounds amazing and plays really well. It's been gigged and used in rehearsal a few times, so it sports a few superficial marks, mainly on the back of the body and above the pickguard near the upper horn (they are extremely hard to photograph). One of the tuners also has some scuffs but it doesn't impact its functioning. Truss-rod is working fine, as it should. A local luthier did a shielding of the cavity, as it hadn't been done by Fender, making the bass noisy originally. It is much quieter now, at least when not soloing one of the pickups, in that situation you obviously get the classic single-coil hum... But if you know your Jazz Bass, you know that's normal. Specs are classic: Alder body, maple neck and fretboard, vintage-style tuners, single-coil pickups, passive Volume/Volume/Tone electronics. It comes with an aftermarket (shielded) black pickguard, but I will also provide the original white pickguard. It comes with a very flimsy gig-bag, I can ship the bass within the UK if needed (for an extra £35), I'd obviously pack it thoroughly with gig-bag, bubble-wrap and cardboard. However I'd prefer a collection in or around Edinburgh, Scotland. Any questions let me know! Thanks3 points

Very well put together build I bought from @thebrigon here some years ago. Its in great condition, with no real wear or flaws, same as when I bought it tbh, as its been a much under used studio bass. it's a jazz spec neck on a p Bass body. back of neck has been left natural so no sticky feels. It has GHS flats on it still in good nick. I've changed the pups to SD Steve Harris SIGs. Bridge is a generic BBOT, machines are generics with the smaller backplate and turn and hold tune well. the route cover for the electrics is a lovely thing as well price includes functioning hard case and UK shipping, or knock £15 off and you can collect from Forest Hill, south east London. hard to know what to price it at but I figured parts alone are worth the asking price. Let me know if you have any questions3 points

Here I offer a rare Ibanez SR 1000E bass from the early Soundgear series from 1988/1989 in a very good condition. The SR1000E was one of the top models of the Soundgear line and was manufactured in Japan at the legendary FujiGen Gakki factory. By the way, the sunburst finish is extremely rare to find in this quality. The bass has innovative features, high-quality components and outstanding playability. In terms of sound and handling, the bass reminds me a lot of the Spector USA or Euro models. The condition is good to very good considering the age of the bass. The laquer has a few scratches and small dents typical of its age. The frets are at about 80-90% according to my estimation. Here still the conclusion of a test report from 1990 from the German magazine "Guitar and Bass": "The SR1000E is not without reason the top model of the Soundgear series, since Ibanez has combined here the very good handling characteristics together with extremely flexible and yet manageable electronics. This bass should be able to meet the ever-changing demands of modern bassists over an extended period of time." Country of origin: Japan Scale length: 864 mm, long scale Neck width: 38 mm (nut), 53 mm (12th fret), 60 mm (24th fret) Body: ash Neck: maple, three-stripe Fingerboard: Ebony Pickup: DiMarzio (Ibanez Custom) P-/J-Type Electronics: 9V active EQ, Power Curve System Controls: Master Volume, PU Balance, Frequency Select Switch: Power-Curve Switch Hardware: Gotoh Omni-Adjust Bridge, encapsulated Gotoh tuners Weight: 3,7 kg A brief remark to the Power-Curve-System: The frequency pot selects the frequency similar to a passive tone shutter. The triple toggle switch is on bypass and raises the frequency ranges differently in two positions. This makes three different, high-quality sounds directly available.3 points

I know some very fancy tricks acquired over a period of 27 years - all of which time should’ve been spent learning theory and sight reading, stuff like that. So I sound like I really know what I’m doing but in reality I haven’t a foggy Feckin clue. It’s like the kid at school who could juggle a football doing keepie-uppies etc but never signed for United. but the bass version 🥴🥳3 points

Hopefully i have redeemed myself for not reading posts properly before replying. 😇 I've only done 4 EUB gigs so not many pictures. This was the first one I did and use my regular bass rig which was barefaced big baby II and alembic preamp and Synq power amp. Since then I have bought a Schertler Unico to use with the EUB which sounds great and perfect really for a small setup. However we did a couple of under cover out door gigs and found the Unico was not delivering enough bottom end and volume to compete with keys, 2 saxes and drums. So i bought a Barefaced LF800 sub from one of the guys on this forum and plugged it into the Unico's sub output socket and it works great. I only set the volume just enough to fill the bottom end not dominate it. If I find a pic with the schertler and sub i will post that.3 points

From playing with the app it seems to list all the streaming services where the album is available. But ultimately it's up to the actual artist where they're streaming the album. So some might be on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and everywhere else you can imagine. Others might only be available on a single streaming service. The reason I initially mentioned using only albums on Bandcamp is because it's free and everyone has access at the click of a link. If people have to faff around signing up to different steaming services (even if it's free) it might put them off participating. However. For those who have access to any of the paid streaming services I will post the links (as and where available).3 points

I use this some of the time, often alternating with fretted bass from gig to gig. EMGs work really well and sit well in the mix. I has been noticed once or twice too by the crowd.3 points

I likes me some 70s dub -Lee Scratch Perry, King Tubby and Scientist in particular -and like some regular reggae e.g Toots &b The Maytals, Black Uhuru. But you're right, within the BCverse, like electronica, it seems to be a niche thing with just a few followers. Anyway, this guy sure isn't niche and this is one hell of a reggae-ish bassline3 points

If you're anything like me it is a never ending journey rather than destination! The M82 is a good start as it gives a lot of control (pay about £90 second hand) but is only 'up' sweep and bandpass, there are other envelope filter types: The EBS BassIQ blue label does up/down sweep, and bandpass/lowpass so is a good way of hearing those different things. They are both available in the effects for sale section right now. 'Good' Envelope filters are quite a personal choice though and can sound quite different with different playing styles/strings/pickups/other pedals etc. so I'd buy/sell second hand on here to try quite a few out and you don't lose much £.3 points

Which to my ears sounds fabulous. In one of the videos on SBL he talks about the choice of bass. He really wanted to play fretless, but decided that would just be too much stress to get the intonation right as well as play the music and worry about everything else that had to happen in four days. And another fretted bass had a slightly better tone for what he wanted, but the F felt much better to play this material on. I am so glad I don't have such worries: I only have two basses, they are very different to each other and I can't play either.3 points

I'm with you 100% there. I would far rather play with average musos who were lovely people, than with virtuosos who were utter gits. Luckily I get the best of both worlds... both bands are git-free zones, my 20 bandmates are all wonderful friends and I love em to bits, and they're all super musicians and performers too. I'm very lucky, but if I was to lose these two bands I'm not sure if I'd carry on.3 points

Unfortunately the request for raffle prizes got buried in the thread for the actual event. We can't have a raffle without prizes so any bits of gear which you have lying around unused, but could be rehomed through the Raffle, would be welcomed. If you are able to donate please copy and paste the list below adding your details and the item. Thank you. As far as I can see we currently have the following raffle prizes: TheGreek - Zoom B1 effects pedal bnt -T.C Electrionic Nether Octaver Hamster - An Ashdown 2x10 combo with Ashdown 15" extension speaker donated by BigJHW. I have approached some UK suppliers for more prizes and we're waiting for a reply. Please note that, in the past, tickets were a £1 each - most people buying ten - and raffle winners NOT taking a second prize till everybody else had won one. This inevitably led to many, many "winning" tickets being called but not being redeemed so this year we are hoping to avoid this situation with tickets at £5 each (historically everybody has won a prize worth more than the £5). Remember that all proceeds go to an outside charity local to the event. Look forward to seeing you all2 points

the last i heard, the 'Dunning Kruger Effect' has been debunked and more people are able to guage their own competence reasonably well, compared to those who might think themselves more capable than the evidence supports realistic comparison will involve plenty of practice - not just in playing but in listening, and in thinking, too comparison isn't compulsory, of course - so if you're playing for your own enjoyment then b*gger the 'botherers'!2 points

My rant; Just another thought for perspective. I'm 70 and I brag a lot about the fact that I'm still gigging 65 shows annually. However, it's because I'm in a good, smart band. Are we the best local band, no, but we're one of the smartest. We do things that are right for us. For those who follow my posts, you know I'm an advocate for good people over good musicians. I'm also into " good decisions ". For example, we've been around since 2007. We've been through the 3 gig weekends and the 4 hour bar gigs that are still prevalent in the States. When I say we're smart, I mean we're smart enough to know we've outgrown late night bar gigs. We've also avoided band drama and turmoil. Many of those band dynamics, drama, band turmoil and bad bookings contribute to guys giving up. It's not because they don't like gigging or being in a band but more not liking their particular negative band circumstances including age, medical and physical issues. I'll stop when walking on stage is no longer physically possible or no fun anymore. I can't really imagine it not being fun. Blue2 points
