  1. ...and while we're on the Country theme, here's my band, Southern Frontier, playing at The Donkey in Leicester last night. Great gig, which we all really enjoyed and got lots of lovely feedback from the decent-sized crowd. Home for 9pm as it was a 4pm kick off

  2. Fantastic night at the Hunter Club in Bury St. Edmunds, playing with ‘For The Hornets’. 180 Cap venue, we sold 56 tickets in advance, and were at capacity when we played. Composite image as people at the front were too close to get us all in lol! Would you look at my barnet!

  3. Well, it's with a heavy heart that I'm going to be stepping down from my position in this band in a few months time. I've volunteered to put this up on here first, before advertising more widely if needed. The plan is to gauge who may be interested, and then I can forward their details on to our band leader Andy who will ultimately be deciding who to choose. I'm looking at leaving around April / May 2024, so that's when the new person would be taking over. Below is a brief 'advert' I've put together to outline the type of applicants we are looking for. https://www.elotribute.com/ Bassist with backing vocals wanted for 'The ELO Experience'. I am retiring from this band in Spring 2024, so we are starting to look for my replacement! The person will ideally be based in Yorkshire / Midlands area, and have their own transport ( to get to meeting points for our band bus to pick you up en route to gigs.) We currently play upwards of 65 gigs a year, mainly in principal theatres all over Great Britain along with some festivals. There may also be the chance for European gigs in the future as well. We need someone who can authentically play the original ELO bass parts as well as provide solid backing vocals which form an important part of the songs. You will need to be well presented with a strong 'team player' professional attitude both on and off stage – this is something all our band and crew have and it makes for a very happy group of people! Age-wise we are happy for pretty much anyone to apply who can do the job – the current members range from mid 20's to mid 60's. It is possible for you to do other work around our band's commitments, so long as it's understood that this job is ALWAYS your first call – we never use deps. If this sounds like you and you'd like to be considered then please drop me a PM and I will forward it on to our band leader Andy. I'm also happy to answer any questions via PM if there's anything more you need to know before applying. Please send PMs to me by Wednesday 15th November - thank you. If you're successful we would be looking at rehearsals in early 2024 with a view to starting full time with the band in April / May 2024. Cheers, Pete.

  4. Priced to sell. So I’m shallow and weak willed and want to own one of these in black so this beauty has to go to help fund it. Great 50’ s P bass in lovely Dakota Red, Maple neck, good condition, slight scuffs to the scratch plate, no dings or dents. I’ve gigged this loads this year and it always sounds great, I just want a black one……sad I know. Weighs in at 8lbs, no back breaker. Collection from Milton Keynes or postage an option if required. Any questions just let me know. Steve

  7. The possibility of someone changing two letters is mentioned in the OP: change two letters and get a Paddington Hard Stare. I changed two letters, I got a Paddington Hard Stare, and I didn't have to write Carter The Unstoppable Sax Machine. It's been worth it.

  9. After 14 years playing with ‘The ELO Experience’ I am looking to retire in the spring of 2024. Subsequently the band are looking for my replacement, and I suggested putting it on here first to see if anyone is interested? I’ve posted more details in the ‘Bassists Wanted’ section, so please have a look if you think it may be for you. Many thanks, Pete.

  14. Well I picked up the 734 today. First impressions are excellent! Replaced the bridge with a Babicz I got cheap and added some new strings, gave it a rough set up and now it sounds very clear and punchy. Way more natural growl there than I expected too. My original plan was to pops couple of multicoil humbucker pickups in for a Wal vibe. I actually like it too much to deface it so think I’ll just make a new body, not too far off the Amos Heller custom with those so I can always switch back if I want the original. That’ll take time to get sorted, until then this is my new favourite bass! Jury is still out on the painted neck, it feels way better than expected although still think I’d prefer cosmetically if it was natural wood on the back. In no hurry to sand it down or anything though.

  15. For sale/trade a superb Leduc HMP628SF in excellent condition. For those who don't know, it's a Masterpiece Headless Fretless 6 string with 28 positions. If you are looking for a fretless with a very deep sound, lots of presence and depth in the lows-frequencies as well as singing highs without being too aggressive, then this is it. The 1890 Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is in perfect condition and provides magnificent low mids like a Jazz Bass from the 60s, but with much more advanced craftsmanship and incomparable playing comfort for a 6-string bass. The fact that it is headless allows for perfect balance when playing seated or standing, it is a real pleasure to place your fingers on this instrument without any tiredness. This bass has very few playing marks, no scratches and no buzz to be deplored for an instrument over 30 years old. Here are the characteristics of this Leduc: Body: French Alder Wing Top: N/A Neck: One-piece Canadian hard maple Fingerboard: Brazilian rosewood from 1890 (over 130 years old!) Trussrod: Two single-action rods manufactured by Leduc which function perfectly and allow differential neck adjustment Tuners: Leduc Headless System Nut: Ebony Markers: White dots on the fingerboard and on the side Scale: 34 inches Frets: N/A Pickups: Two Bartolini Original Quad Coil 90P46C Electro: Leduc EL-6 18V 3 Bands with Semi-Parametric Mids Knobs: Volume/Balance/Bass & Stacked Treble/Mids + Frequency Selector/Active-Passive Switch Bridge: Manufactured by Leduc in Aluminum and Bronze saddles Finish: Very pleasant satin varnish Hardware: Black Straplock: Schaller The action at the 12th position under the B string is currently 2.25mm and 1.5mm under the C string. You can still go down, but for my right hand attack it buzz a little too much, and I set the neck almost perfectly straight in the treble and with a slight hollow in the bass to have a nice mwah and a nice presence in the bass. Note the absence of neck issue on this bass, the action at the end of the neck is essentially the same. It is strung with 32-125 steel strings, lightly played, but this gives it a very nice grain. Delivered with the original custom-made case which has been worn but is in good condition and does the job. Year of manufacture: 1990 Country of manufacture: France Weight: 4.3kg Serial Number: 7432-K Price: €2500 negotiable You will find the photos in HD right here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-IefTDB23cJ3oODjRK0-VfqO5ZQRfWIn For the neck profile it is a very flat and fast D, the opposite of a PB neck. I'm selling it because I prefer the more "modern" fretless, I have a Status which already suits me perfectly so I don't need it. On the other hand, for those who want THE fretless sound that everyone has in mind, it's a killer, with very high-level craft and, above all, instruments that will become rare because Leduc has stopped taking orders. I'm going to make some sound shortly for those who are interested, otherwise go to PM I already have sound on video. Concerning trades I am open, fretted and fretless from 4 to 6 strings, do not hesitate to offer me, in the worst case I will just say no. Do not hesitate if you have any questions and shipping is obviously possible.

  16. Zon Gone! So one of my top 2 is up fr sale to free up some saving cash and space. First up: 1998 Zon Legacy Standard, Glass over Burl - Excellent condition, polyfusion ZP2D active system, Seymour Duncan Custom pickups, superlight 7.4lbs weight, D-tuner , low action, a dream to play & Ooozes groove! Plus Zon gig bag...probably the most 'perfect' bass i've ever played. Spector Euro 1977 Limited Edition - Upgraded with a Sadowsky preamp system and Sadowsky pickup. The unused blend pot has been left inside the cavity. So much better tone and versatility compared to with the standard Spector Tonepump and Dimarzio, It can now do passive with the SadowskyVTC tone too. Tonepump Preamp included but no Dimarzio. Just like the Zon this bass is in great condition, sounds and feels brilliant, i love it! 8.4lbs , brass nut, low action, pickup poles never align on these basses no matter what pickup is used - it's totally fine if you're not on ocd spectrum, Looks sexy as hell! Spector gig bag included One has to go, which ever sells first then i will pull the other. No trades on these. £1200 each, happy to discuss courier options.

  18. SOLD Barefaced 110 Silver Cloth Grill, with cover for sale Amazing small cab with a great sound Be prepared for bandmates amazement that something so small can sound so big! 8 ohms. Local pickup in Worthing only please Common with these cabs there is some tolex peel on the back. It's been there since I bought the cab on this forum and has not got worse. I've felt no need to repair it and of course it does not affect performance.

  19. In my quest for a lightweight bass I recently acquired this beauty . . . . . . but despite the obvious uptick in quality compared to my usual Squier fayre I just haven't got on with it. So I'm letting it go again for the, I think, very reasonable sum of £500, on condition that . . . . . . you can come and collect from sunny Skipton or I'm happy to drive 45 minutes in any direction from Skipton to meet you or I can drop it off if you live on the route of my weekly trip from Skipton to Chesterfield. A few details. Well it's a nice colour, has chrome hardware (I'm not a gold fan), it's in very good condition and it weighs just over 3.5kg which is just under 7lbs 12oz. It still has all four of its "F" knob covers and you can read the writing on the pups. There is one small mark to the rear of the neck, pictured, which is behind the 11th fret on the high side. It really is not much though. New battery just fitted btw.

  20. Well it’s not last night, but I’ve learned this evening that we’ve been booked to play at The Pappillon in Southend on Dec 1st. It’s one of the more important venues to get your foot in the door in the area, and it’s a pretty hard gig to land, so we’re all stoked! Not expecting an enormous crowd on Southend seafront in December, but if we can impress the owner/booker then maybe we’ll be able to swing a night or two next year!

  21. A used Zoom B1-4, and then you've still got £250 left to get decently drunk... Mine's been a a very decent standalone "pedalboard" for many, many gigs (pubs and function work).

  22. Zoom B2 Four. Why S'manth!? In budget. Loads of f/x (you did say an f/x loving bassist). Patches can be configured on the unit itself. Reviews seem favourable. Have had good personal experience with the B1Four. S'manth x

  23. Unless you’ve been following the build thread you won’t know who Conway Instruments are. So check out this for the history: All you get here is porn (and specs): 5 string fretless, 30” scale with through body stringing Black limba core, English ash top and limba back Limba, maple and cooba set neck, pau ferro board Nordstrand MM5.4 pickup with coil tap and series/parallel switch There's more to it than that but it’s the basics. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. She’s stunning to look at, lovely to play and sounds huuuuge.

  31. I’m thinning out some of my collection and I’ve decided to let another one of my Bravewood p basses go. Anyone who knows anything about Bravewood basses will tell you how good they are. They are totally hand made both bodies and necks. The bass has a Bare knuckle pickup fitted and comes with a new Hiscox case.

  37. My Classic Sabre 😍 Gets me really close to a StingRay. Has the Lakland H+S mode and does the 'hollow' two pickup tone with the switch in the middle position. There's a lovely woody P bass mode tone on position 4 and lastly a nice fat warm neck humbucker on its own. I prefer the 'Lakland' and 'P bass' inbetween settings on the Sabre 5 way compared to both inner and both outer coils settings on a StingRay HH.

  40. Bittersweet gig for Sarum’s Lot last night, we played at Qudos Bar in Salisbury - probably our favourite venue in Salisbury, it was our guitarist’s last gig with us as he’s been battling cancer for the last 5 years and unfortunately the time has come that he just can’t carry on gigging any more🥲 Such a shame as he’s a thoroughly decent bloke and a bloody good mate, and the band has been a breath of fresh air and exactly what I prefer to play. Here’s a cheeky photo I managed to take at the end of Highway to Hell and a snippet of Smells Like Teen Spirit… 70D5C01E-553C-4DF0-883C-04F37B7CB340.mov
