  1. Very sad news indeed. John built this custom GA24 for me in 2007/08. It’s exquisite. God bless JD…

  2. Browsing the web one evening just before Xmas I came across a fabulous original Japan-made Aria Integra IGB85 active bass from approx 1990 for sale. This was the top of the range custom model favoured by Billy Gould of Faith No More back in the day and quite a rare beast.... The bass was in Japan and the price was already very low but there was a 'make an offer' option so I calculated shipping and import taxes and thought "sod it, why not..." and put in a silly low offer. Imagine my surprise when 20 mins later my offer was accepted!! It turned up today, beautifully packed, with a nice note from the seller and some lovely free Japanese sweets/gifts included. 🥰 So, how does it feel/sound?! Well, it plays beautifully with a low action, slim & playable neck and comfortable curved top to the body. Soundwise it has a lovely full tone when flat and the EQ takes it into the Spectorish 'clank' I love....and you can hear on Faith No More's best known tracks. Preamp appears to be a Mighty Mite Hazlab clone or similar which is a wonderful surprise and explains the Spectorish tone...👍😎 A very satisfactory purchase and a bass I can highly recommend, especially if you see one at a competitive price!

  4. Despite the serious man-flu we managed to get through all the festive season gigs. XMas eve was at a nice club in Barton, a pleasant affair but a bit under populated - a trend I’ve noticed over the last couple of years….XMas eve isn’t what it used to be gig wise. Fortunately NYE was a paid party job at a local club so it was well attended but not lairy. Lots of dancing and we even managed Auld Langs Ayne on time. Unfortunately we had one old prat who over indulged and fell over one of the monitors smashing the connections’front panel….hey ho. So now a bit of a rest for the glam lads until the back end of January. Happy new year everyone.

  8. American Vintage II Bass in sea foam green with matching headstock and lollipop tuners. Have added Lindy Fralin 5% overwound pickups and had lacquer removed from the back of the neck which dramatically improved the feel of it. Also had the cavity insulated to help with interference with the single coil pickups. Sounds and feels great. Need to thin down my collection so looking for a new home for this one.

  9. Well, 2023 was pretty much a write off what with the band of 6yrs folding and illness on my part. So back to decent health and missing the gigs, I advertised my services on Bandmix and have a meeting / audition with an 80's cover band tomorrow. Looking forward to it. 👌

  11. Mad price drop or a sensible offer : £1800 OFFERS !!!!!!!! Selling my recently acquired SEI bass as having failed to sell my 77 Jazz I have decided to reduce the stable. it is a traditional P body style with a jazz neck and a very retro tele headstock. Every other aspect of the bass is modern though and is a great example of SEI boutique craftsmanship. Finish is burgendy mist with a matching headstock. Alder body, maple through neck Rosewood board, beautifully figured 24 fret, 34 scale with a slim fast playing jazz neck A very manageable 4kg and excellent balance. Satin chrome hipshot tunes, drop key on the E string. East preamp - vol/blend, passive tone w push/pull for passive, bass/treble stack with high frequency boost pull, mid/mid freq stack. Sexy White side LED on neck !!!!!! Nordstrand pickups which are incredibly responsive. Comes in snug old gig bag and can be securely packaged for shopping at buyers expense. Try out or collection from near York.

  12. Hello again groovers, Please excuse the delay in getting the pictures up. This is no longer a "feeler" post but a definite "for sale" now but I'm changing the price to £1500. I know this looks like bad form but I feel the initial £1350 was very hasty on my part, considering what an animal of a bass it is, it's lovely condition and the trends in USA prices these days. On top of this, I've had so many offers above the "feeler" price that I'd be a numpty to honour my initial "feeler" price. I hope you all understand. Anyway, here they are. Gorgeous Stingray. Makes my hairs stand up every time I play it but I'm playing less and less bass these days and am hooked on electric and acoustic six string. I'm thinking about busking in my 60's. The only marks on it are so hard to photograph. There's a tiny dent below the g string mute, and an even tinier one on the headstock but I can't find it now. The pickguard has some wear from me but there's hardly any swirling ty[ical on a black poly body. Birdseye maple neck which glows. Serial number on the bridge. Mutes. 4.36kg which equates to 9.6 lbs. Truss rod works perfectly. These basses need no introduction. Absolute animal tone. Needs to be gigged and NEVER has been. Absolutely welcome over at the Chewie residence but I've got a little Roland CUBE here so bring a worthy amp if you're coming. I've got a Gert big garage. Kind regards to you all.

  13. I've had a request for pics of my very recently acquired 4003. I didn't buy anything in 2023 (I completed the abstinence thread), the shop was shut on New Year's Day and it wasn't listed on the web site. So after trying it on New Year's Eve the 2nd Jan was my first purchasing opportunity - duly taken with a deposit down about 20 minutes after the shop opened, balance paid, bass collected and back home by 1:30pm. I went to the shop to try out a pre-owned Fender American Pro Jazz, but saw the Ric so tried it too. I've already got a white jazz (as you can see, albeit fretless) and the Ric interested me way more than the American Pro. It ticks a lot (my wife hopes all) of my remaining gas boxes: A natural finish A maple fretboard that isn't roasted (I have a short scale Ibanez that is beautifully roasted - not shown in the pics as it is headless) Fret markers that aren't dots (though I do have very pretty ones on my acoustic 6 string pictured next to the Ric) An iconic bass that wasn't designed by Leo Fender (there aren't many of them) A sound I don't really get with my other basses, particularly with a pick Although I didn't buy it for the Ric-o-sound, I'm starting to see possibilities which is making me think about affects again (which I didn't beyond those I already had at the start of my abstinence year). (Excuse the slippers - they aren't doing much for my street cred).

  18. From the POV of one who has been eased out - back in 2010, I'd been in a rock covers band for a year or so and things were looking quite good, gigs were coming in. Then they let me know no rehearsal next week, and the same the next week, and the week after that. Then the rhythm guitarist texted me to let me know I was being ditched. The politics were that the drummer and lead guitarist, who were brothers, had a mate who was a bassist, and now the band was starting to be successful, he wanted to join. The rhythm guitarist and the vocalist were rather trapped, as it was the brothers' band, and the rhythm guitarist didn't want to leave me in the dark, hence the text. All rather unpleasant for me. Self-indulgent bit follows - please feel free to skip it. As it happened, things turned out well for me after that, and the band I subsequently joined supported the other band at one gig. The guy who replaced me then got cancer, was himself replaced, and the replacement went on holiday just as a gig came in, so in 2016 I did a dep gig for them. And a few months ago they asked me to rejoin, and Mrs Zero ran into the wife of the lead guitarist who told her that I was the best bassist they'd ever had. However, I was settled in with the current band, and had no great desire to join a bunch of somewhat racist Leave voters as I could also see much potential for friction there.

  20. Sad news. John will be remembered as a legend of the industry, not just for making a splash with his own enduring designs at a time when the bass world was really taking off, but for continuing to work at the highest level for decades after. I was only just saying the other day that Jaydee remained surprisingly affordable for a handmade British instrument, constructed to the highest standards. My thoughts are with his family, who I hope will find some comfort in knowing how well thought of John was.

  21. As others have said, sad news. John was an old school gentleman who knew the value of customer service and brand reputation. I bought a single pickup model and after a very friendly conversation with John I sent it off to them for a pickup upgrade. Even though they were really busy with customer builds John managed to squeeze in the pickup upgrade and the bass was back with me in good time. I remember being surprised at the quality of the workmanship done in such a short time. He belongs in the Bass Builders Hall of Fame. A real loss. Email sent to the family.

  24. No band, no point 🤷‍♂️. This is one best looking/playing basses I have ever owned, on a par with a few Overwater’s over the last 15 years. It’s a dream to play, no discernible fret wear, a couple of blemish’s on the headstock, none on the body or neck. No case but a robust Gig Bag. 30. *SOLD* For sale (no trade offers please) is a 2016/17 right handed long scale Fender MIM Precision bass in Arctic White with rosewood fingerboard, with upgraded pickups and wiring. Before I go any further, as I know this is important to many of us, this bass weighs a reasonable 4.0kg (8.8 lbs) on my digital luggage scales - a touch more than the Player P’s I’ve had, but less than every USA P bass I’ve had. It balances well. It’s in excellent condition and has clearly been looked after. There are no dings, paint chips, chunks out of the back of the neck, etc, just a couple of tiny what I guess you’d call scuffs on the body which are nigh on impossible to see / photograph. It has a nice dark rosewood fingerboard on a ‘tinted satin urethane’ finished maple neck. The board was lemon oiled in September 2023. The neck has the usual 1.625” P nut width, but has a very slim neck front to back, measured with digital calipers as 0.802” at the 1st fret and 0.886” at the 12th fret. It’s the slimmest Fender P bass neck I’ve played, and is nice and fast with the satin urethane finish. It’s effectively a ‘Slim C’ neck profile though isn’t spec’d as such. The Arctic White colour is very nice, closer to the cool white of the Player ‘Polar White’ than a creamy ‘Olympic White’. Strung with 45-105 medium gauge GHS Boomers (M3045) nickel rounds with plenty of life left in them. Stock open gear tuners and bridge. Pickups have been upgraded to the excellent Fender Custom Shop CS62. Box included though it’s a bit tatty. Wiring upgraded to USA specs, to a KiOgon loom (CTS pots, Switchcraft Jack, 0.047uf capacitor), with 1/4” chrome knobs to fit the pots. It was a solderless loom, but has since had the bridge wires fully soldered on. Please note I no longer have the stock pickups and wiring. Not that you would need them as it sounds great as is. Fantastic full range of tones compared to the stock pots. Bought from a fellow Basschatter Summer 2023, this is a semi reluctant sale as this is a very nice bass. I just marginally prefer my Player P bass and think I’ll always favour a maple board, so am moving this on. It’s a great colour combo, with 3-ply BWB plate on, and a 3-ply WBW plate will be included too. Both are aftermarket ones as far as I can tell but fit ok. There is no bag or case included in this sale, but I have a good quality box and packing from when I received it. Collection is possible from Southport. I work near St Helens, so could meet in that area or somewhere in the North West within reason. Price is including postage, so there will be a discount if collected. Otherwise I will post to a mainland UK address only, using Parcelforce 24 hour next day, fully protected delivery, with live tracking available on day of delivery. I should be able to post within 1 working day of payment being received, depending on my work shifts. I would rather post it Mon to Thurs, so it’s not sat in a depot all weekend. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback & PM me if interested or wanting more photos. It is set up with a nice low to medium action and the truss rod turns as it should. It is sold as seen, with no tools or inspection tag. Serial number shows 2017, I have run it through the Fender serial number check and it shows as registered March 2017 - see photos. MIM basses moved over to Pau Ferro boards not long after this, so here is your chance to get a nice dark rosewood board. I paid £425 for this here a few months ago, and have spent £145 on upgrades (pickups £100, wiring loom, pots & knobs £45). It’s in exactly the same condition I bought it in and hasn’t been played much. I think £520 is a fair price for a great condition P bass with top upgrades.

  39. In order to persevere with going IE and zero backline I've just purchased the Sennheiser IE100 (wired) IEs via Amazon @ £83 and 'for my ear shape' these are proving a revelation over the Linsoul KZ10s. The seal/isolation is clearly improved even just with the standard foam bud that came fitted (I trialled 6 different buds with the K10s none sealed well or felt comfortable); the low profile and lighter weight also make them easier to wear. I'm aware that they are a 1 driver unit as opposed to the 5 driver of the KZ10 but the overall sound is more pleasing to me when using program music. A quick test with my bass (into the Mooer P1 and a Behringer P2) seems to indicate I'm getting smoother bass and less harsh top end. Oddly before the IE100s I didn't think the KZ10s had any harshness. I'll know better next weekend at the gig if the overall mix sounds better. Just my initial observations.

  44. You asked quite a specific question 'Best octaver pedal for 5 string fretless' and even more specifically about the MXR M288 for that use. It's a bit of an obscure/niche question to get in a huff about not getting a response in less than 3hrs! Even if someone was in that small niche and happened to read your question in that time perhaps they couldn't drop what they were doing to urgently tell you. Anyway, I don't know about on fretless but the M288 is a decent analogue octaver. Personally, I prefer the Octamizer though. No analogue ocatvers I've used have been very good on notes below the low A though so that B string didn't get used much with them.
