So our first rehearsal for a while last night at our usual spot. We use a village church and have done for years at reasonable rates with our fees being welcomed to the up keep of the building. After we finished our drummer had this on his car which I am temped to add to our posters and possibly a t-shirt. I also think "The Gospel of Salvation" could be a great future band name!21 points

I built this board. I had a top bar and sides left over after fitting a power bar to my 60cm board. So I added a couple of bits of batten some velcro and a couple of bolts for feet and presto! The Harmonic Booster is at the end, the comp and octaver are first everything else is in the loop of the X5.14 points

Great gig at 33 bar in Manchester. Despite feeling like death warmed up with a nasty bug, it was a lot of fun. The first outing for the TC rig…. Absolutely delighted with it, awesome sound, very loud (the sound guy made me turn it way down), very happy with it.12 points

Have now printed all pieces, I redid a few as I wasn't 100% happy with the results. Printing at 0.2mm does a lot better quality than 0.3mm but takes so much longer. Checked the measurements and the bridge is in the right position. Might like to move it back 5mm but thats a quick print of the bridge adapter and six bolts. So that seems to work (or appears to). Printed a couple of round plugs to hold the pickguard nuts. You can see the large round holes in the picture which are empty whilst the control panel has five of the plugs glued in. I'm becoming a big fan of FloPlast as its simple to use, doesn't ooze out, welds quickly, doesn't expand and is very, very strong. Aesthetically, it looks right. The proportions looks good, I know that @tauzero hates the headstock here, but it is what it is. Next steps are cutting the plywood backbone to the right size, and drilling the mounting holes in the right place. So to make it easy, I've printed a drill jig, I would have had the plywood cut accuratley using a table saw, but my neighbour has just broken his foot and can't get into his workshop, so I may have to pull out a saw or even worse, a circular saw, and do it myself. <gulp> Then, bolt the middle together, no glue, and see if the el-cheapo strings I have snap it into two pieces Plan B if they do snap, is an aluminium and ply backbone, Plan C an all aluminium and Plan D a Carbon Fibre backbone. Thats for the weekend. Rob8 points

Tomorrow I'm picking up a lovely looking lefty Lionel to borrow for a bit, and I'm really looking forward to it! It's being offered for sale local to me, and the seller kindly offered me to try it out for a little while - while he borrows my Fender MIJ 1975 Jazz Bass reissue that I LOVE but don't really use.7 points

Another bass up for sale, may be withdrawn if any of the others sell. This is a fairly unique Spector Coda, according to PJ Rubal, this one (#100) was originally made for Nick Beggs but ended up with Steven Wilson who I recently purchased it from. There’s video footage of Steven using the bass if interested, and Nick continues to use an identical one on recent tour. It has black mother of pearl inlays and badass bridge as additional upgrades. It has a transparent black finish which goes nicely with the inlays. The pickups are Aguilar NC with OBP2 preamp. Its a great playing and sounding bass. It has a gorgeous feeling neck with birdseye maple fingerboard. A top quality instrument all round. In great condition only a small ding on the headstock and a couple of small blemishes on the body. It comes with a Spector hard case. Happy to post at buyers expense. Collection from Cardiff would be preferred.5 points

All non-musical, but... Nestle, Coke and McDonalds because I'm old enough to remember the 1980s. Wetherspoons because the owner treated his worlers abysmally during the pandemic. Amazon because of their shameful tax arrangments. Once I've brought that lot to their knees, I'll make a start on Pepsico and Proctor & Gamble.5 points

So I've been contemplating this sale for a while and finally talked myself into it..for now. This is my lovely US jazz bass. It's a bit of an oddball in that it's a transitional 1978 spec and serial but with an '83 heel stamp. Towards the end of Fender's time at Fullerton, they started using left over parts (hence the 78 neck, bullet truss and three bolt). I got this bass with no electronics and so put an EMG J-Set in it. It's had a small route under the pickguard to facilitate a battery without having to route the back. For some reason, it has a walnut shim in the neck pocket. I don't know why, I've never bothered removing it and it works perfectly fine with a nice low action and super punchy 70s tone. It's had a small neck repair just behind the nut (pictured). I've seen 78s with this same repair sell for £2400+ so pricing it at £1300 which I think is fair given it's lack of originality. Stripes are just a decal and I can remove for the buyer (but they look rad). I honestly love this bass and will be really sad to see it go.4 points

I've got a 1960 CS Jazz, OW, tort guard and rosewood board. Best jazz going. I went to guitarguitar in Birmingham a year or so ago with the intention of getting either a pro 2 or Ultra. Tried the CS and the sound was leagues above the basses I'd originally gone to try. Ended up then trying a few CS jazz basses with a sunburst in mind but the OW 1960 one was the bees knees in both sound and feel. Lightly relic'd. Again, something I never thought Id buy. I even considered buying it and having it refinished but I've left it as is. I was pleasantly surprised.4 points

This is my latest pedal it’s one I’ve been wanting to try for a good while now. I have to say I’m not disappointed in the least with it. I already have the 3 Leaf Audio GR2 I’m not sure if the new one will replace the GR2. I think it will certainly give it a run for it’s money though.3 points

Thought this might be of interest here, first I've heard of it but looks pretty good to me, and it's free. Not sure how much bass related stuff they'll have there but the vendor list looks pretty intriguing, has anyone been to one of these before? https://delicious-audio.com/london-synth-pedal-expo-2024/3 points

NASA. That rejection letter really stung. I wouldn't go into space with them now even if they begged me.3 points

Thoroughly enjoyed that video. I discovered Tool when I was working in the States, back in 1999. I was driving around aimlessly one evening, since there was nothing much else to do in Santa Clara where I was stuck during the working week, when a song came on the radio. The station was KITS Live 105, which played alternative rock, often in back to back segments only broken by adverts. The song had this amazing bass intro and then built up to a massive crescendo over more than six minutes, but the lack of any DJ voiceover meant I was clueless as to who the band were. Cut to a few weeks later, and I'm again cruising around and another song comes on - different song, but clearly the same band and another fantastic bass part. I pulled over next to a phone booth, cranked the radio to maximum volume, and called a colleague who was more into heavy music than me. "What the hell is this band?" I ask him, and he tells me it's Tool. The first track I'd heard was "H", while the second one was "Forty Six & 2", both off their "Ænima" album.3 points

Thought I should add this comment from F-Bass manufacturer reference which is best. Does Neck-Through construction sound better than Bolt-On? “Better” is subjective to the player. We actually find that a wider range of players prefer Bolt-On. It has a quicker attack & an overall more lively tone, is more responsive to playing dynamics, doesn’t render the entire bass worthless if the neck is damaged beyond repair, and it’s standard to boot. The neck-through construction has always and will always be an option for those who want a little more compression and sustain. It’s a positively beautiful thing in the upper register.3 points

Yup, for pickups Tonerider. I’d also consider changing the electrics at the same time to a KiOgon (Basschat member) loom with Fender US specs. For one it makes the install of new pickups easier and secondly in many cases the reason Squiers sound twangier than Fenders is the pots, often 500s as oppose to the 250s that Fender use.3 points

Note that his distortion, not his more or less always on bi-amping Turbo RAT + Boss GEB-7 dirty chain, or the fuzz build into his wah pedal, but regular distortion in his main effects chain, actually is a Tech 21 GT2, guitar preamp/drive pedal. I own the dirt cheap, but great and pretty accurate, Behringer GDI21 clone of it, and I can attest that it works pretty amazing as a bass distortion. Here is a great demonstration of the Tech21 GT2 pedal's capabilities as a bass distortion:3 points

Just spotted this - I'm the unfortunate schmuck who runs thefretboard, and this particular set of scams (there were more than one) came down to accounts compromised through two vectors: one was a man-in-the-middle attack, and the other was simple password reuse from other sites that have been breached. The scammer would compromise an existing user account with good reputation, change the email address and then get scamming...thus bypassing all the in-community protections. Given that enforcing MFA would destroy the site's traffic, and forcing everybody to change their passwords would be...unpopular...the simple solution was to prevent users changing their email addresses (they have to come through admin requests now) until I can finish rewriting the forum software to actually not be junk. Just on this other point... There's a very good reason, and we had one scammer in the early days who took loads of people for a total of thousands - he'd do it across guitar forums, photography forums, even a Jack Daniels enthusiast forum. The point is that Action Fraud don't care unless there's a pattern of high-value crimes; even when presented with all the evidence they need to make an open-and-shut case, they won't touch it when the value's that low. His approach was depressingly simple...he'd just sell the same thing over and over again, and post an empty envelope via Royal Mail Signed For to another address on the same street. Because they only tracked stuff by postcode in those days, he could "prove" that it was signed for, but the buyer would never know that there was nothing sent and RM would back up his story.3 points

I have a CS Precision, I bought it second hand - it is great, I was playing it last night thinking 'this is a really good bass' and its as far from two badly bolted together pieces of wood, as you can get. That said, my £5k is going on a new central heating system.3 points

In my search for a left handed P bass with a thinner neck i finally took the plunge & ordered a Bruce Thomas Profile Bass from the Bass Centre last week. I know i've only had it a couple of days, so it's still the honeymoon period, but i'm seriously impressed by it for the price. The pickups are so hot compared to my US Fender Pro 1 that i had the house shaking when i first plugged it in. The acid test will be of course when i gig it, unfortunately we've got no gigs until mid March due to holidays.3 points

Lorna Shore is the only illegible logo there, and that's mainly because it's a nonsensical name. Anyone interested in going to that festival will be familiar with that kind of typography and have little trouble deciphering who's who. Much more difficult to read are these logos:3 points

First off - I'm not really a believer in alternative medicines/therapies etc, but, whatever works... works! About 10 years ago I started to get niggly twinges in my fingers that were gradually getting worse. A bit of online research pointed to the start of Arthritis. Before going to the doctor I mentioned it to my sister-in-law, who is a nurse. She suggested trying Glucosamine Sulphate or Omega 3. I bought 1000mg bottles of both (1 each daily). After 2 or 3 months there was definite improvement. For the last 10 years my fingers have been pain free. However, a couple of years ago, thinking that I was possibly wasting my money, I lapsed with the supplements - the twinges slowly returned. Needless to say, I was straight back to Holland and Barrett's. I'm now once again pain free. It may well all be in my head, but, if it works, it works.3 points

I have for sale my Sandberg California VS in Gloss Black, I am no longer playing 5 string and would like to give someone else a chance to play this amazing Bass. I purchased it from Bass Direct and have used it sparingly since new. It has a 5 string 35 inch neck with Pau Ferro fretted fingerboard with front faceing dots in abalone Chrome hardware with a Mint coloured pickguard. The 2 band eq also allows for a passive bypass and she sounds awesome. It comes with the original Sandberg gig bag.2 points
