To be honest, I am quite late for the New Bass Day. It's not new. I bought it weeks ago. But I did not know what to think until last week. Unlike many here, I am not necessarily a fan of Harley Benton. The ones I had, I sold, as their quirks (eg ridiculous weigh) more than offset the positives. And looking at comments on other basses, I am uninterested in most of their offering. But when this semihollow short scale came for sale here on Basschat, I could not resist the temptation to give it a go. At first, I thought it was another quirky bass, good "for the money" but not to be used in practice. The strings do not align with the pole pieces, and the output from the E was weak. In desperation, after trying three different sets of strings, I tried to align the E exactly with the pole piece, even though this leaves the G quite far away from it. Oddly this solved the problem completely. The E is nice and clear. And the G... is also nice and clear for some reason! I am confused, but happy. I am left with a bass that sounds good, has a good neck, good fretwork, and oddly stays in tune more than most cheap basses I have had. I was quite worried because the floating bridge but it is nothing to worry about. Losen the strings, move it, tune. Done. All doable, if my tuner is to be trusted. Despite the problem with the E, I have mostly been playing this bass since I bough it. I have discovered the magic of a semihollow. Getting enough volume to play over tracks even when I cannot be bothered to plug in to the amp. The strong initial attack and limited sustain. The short-scale string tension and thumpy sound, but in a long-scale body that does not make me feel cramped. The low weigh. And there is something to be said for a neck pickup in that position, though I am not sure it beats the P/Mustang position Just great!8 points

NBD Very nice, early 90s MIJ, quality thing. Surprisingly light, ash, passive, really great tone via an old set of Roto flats. I spent an hour polishing the frets, not much else to do with it, cracking bass.7 points

New things have been accidentally bought, @jimbobothy showed me how the pros use dual lock, and I had enough patch cables… tuner - oc10 - C4 - H9 - iron man - Omnicomp - L4 preamp - shallow water clone - Anadime - H9 - colourbox New are the valeton oc10 which is just amazing (and was an accident buying) and the H9max which can do so much and pushed the zoom ms70cdr off the board… lots of crossover with the C4 so we will see how that goes7 points

An almost reluctant but inevitably enjoyable NBD. I have a gig coming up in October that I need a 5 string for... I could have probably got away with a 4 tuned DGCF but... I thought it was time to get to grips with this. Of course I went to a nice store in Guildford where I tried all the 5s and the most comfortable and best sounding one was about 2K out of my budget so, after crying, I walked out the store kind of hurt inside and went home to ponder. I found that bass here second hand only 1K out of my budget but I still couldn't justify it... This time with less outside tears but more internal turmoil I went and bought the cheapest-good 5 string I could find in Europe and this morning it arrived. I have to say, I've been feeling pretty good about it so far. The plan is to learn and then, if it is that 5 strings is the way for me go I'll find myself in Guildford again with the holy grail of 5 that I'd tasted that day. Happy learning days Peace 🕊️6 points

Very sadly needing to sell some gear to pay for imminent car bill! Here is my Charvel (made by Fender) San Dimas JJ 5 String Bass in the best colour option in my opinion Lambo green, especially with the contrasting Dimarzio pickups. It's in very good condition, not perfect, as it has been gigged a little, you can see the condition in the pictures, but very presentable as a rule. I have removed the rubbish stock preamp, and replaced with a Glockenklang 3 band with push pull passive (volume knob), and in passive mode the treble knob acts like a traditional passive tone knob, essentially giving you true passive instrument controls if required. There is no perceivable difference in volume between Active or Passive modes. This Preamp cost me £150 from Germany. With all my basses I like to have zero neck dive, so most get tuners replaced for lighter versions, this was no exception. This bass now has matching Gold hipshot ultralites, and balances perfectly on a strap. The bass is setup very low with Ernie Ball 125 - 45 strings, still in good condition. This bass plays itself! the neck is in my opinion one of the fastest I have had my hands around, super comfy for a 5er, something you will hear many people remark on if you trail the forums for people giving opinions about this bass. It reminds me more of a Yamaha or Ibanez 5 string neck-wise if that helps. It also has Luminlay side dot markers for illumination on dark stages. Weight of the bass is 4.5kg (9.9lbs) I will include a brand new Markbass padded gig bag in the sale, and this will be placed in a guitar box for posting, should you want to do it that way. Postage is included in the sale, and will be tracked and Insured to the full amount via DPD, pickup can also be arranged should you wish. Any questions please feel free to get in touch. Kind regards Greg5 points

A while back I bought an ACG Salace shortie (352) from @binky_bass. And that was it. Once you’ve got one ….. Now as it happens, Alan found the rest of the same piece of camphor that’s on the back of 352. So the spec for my own build fell out pretty easily. Around 4 months to go if the bridge arrives on time. 🙏4 points

So, as a teenager starting out on bass I'd see the Marshall stuff in the local music shop and drool over it, safely knowing I could never afford it. Well, many years later, a cheeky eBay bid, I've got it. It fires up and it's working well, had a little noodle and everything is functional but I want to get it serviced before I trust it on a gig, the previous owner has had it in storage for ten years or more. Will try to get it to the amp tech ASAP along with some other stuff I want him to sort, then it may be unleashed soon!4 points

Little update - I can say for sure that having my music related stuff posted on a dedicated Instagram page linked to a Bandcamp page has been quite good financially for me over the last 10 months. An album I made at the end of last year sold all the CD, then all the vinyl on pre-order and it’s now on its third vinyl pressing. Sales-wise I’m never going to trouble Beyonce or Dua Lipa or any of them lot, but having the Instagram page linked to Bandcamp has made my music earn enough for me to live off so far this year. FB and all the rest might work better for other folks but I definitely wouldn’t discount Instagram as a social media platform to promote your stuff, whether it be music, art, small business, etc. Or biscuits 🤤4 points

Not 100% sure about this as this has a lot of sentimental value for me and I was intending to loan this out to someone as I’m unlikely to use it any more, but I have had some unexpected bills to cover. This is one of the original 100 units of the crowdfunded batch. It was also the unit I did all the v3.00-v3.61 development and testing work on since 2019. Has András’s signature on the base plate. No longer has rubber pads on the bottom. Comes with the original box. There’s a bit of lifting of the decal around the input sockets on the back. Otherwise in excellent condition. Running the latest v3.61 firmware and has a bunch of my custom sounds in there. I could return it to the stock presets if desired. (Might even be able to load it with some of your choosing from all those I’ve shared upon request.) I originally bought this from @Embra and so he can tell you whether he was the original owner or not. Price includes UK postage via Special Delivery.3 points

Full refund from PayPal received today. Unbelievably the seller messaged me and said he couldn't contact me before, because he (or she) had lost their phone while on holiday. Yes, of course. I left them scathing feedback and blocked them. Bought a nice Ibanez instead. Result.3 points

Both will be great. As I said before, buy a Barefaced cab and discover what your amp sounds like. If you don't like the sound it's not the fault of the cab. You need to buy a better amp. I used to own 2 Two10's and 2 Super Compacts. I had no issues with the sound of either, and after a year of gigging I settled for the SC's. . . . they were lighter and a better fit in the boot of the car.3 points

Something we can all agree on :). My first experience was a local covers band Blue Arsed Fly. I pulled up outside the pub and you could heara decent covers band going flat out. As I came in the pub down a corridor I looked into the room and couldn't see the band. they were right next to me and the only sound was the singer and the tap of the kit from the eDrums, the quietest bit of the room. The band sounded great and plenty loud enough out front, one of the best sounds I'd heard from a pub band in quite a while. It was quite a weird experience at the time. If I can take the 10 sugars analogy a bit further though it is like giving up sugar in your coffee. Not very nice at first but you get used to the taste of coffee and grow to like it, then when someone forgets and sugars your drink it tastes absolutely foul. I know @Al Krow only used the soul-less word to stimulate debate but the silent stage isn't silent for the band or the audience and the gigs go just as well as before except you can't hear the audience members who push their way onto stage to ask your rockabilly band if they do any ABBA3 points

I have a mezzo. Incredibly comfortable but IMO has nothing of the sound of the short scale - which should be fatter/more boomy than a long scale in theory. I play it with treble at minimum, 45-105 gauge, but it still sounds thinner than my P bass with tonerider pickup and 45-100 strings. To be honest, I now mostly play a short scale semihollow, but my instinct would not be to learn from scratch on a short scale unless there are specific reasons to do it. I would learn on the most commonly used type of bass and then change once you know with a bit more certainty what do you want from a bass3 points

Hi all Up for sale is a beautiful handmade Everson Caiman T4. This very bass was reviewed by Bass magazine, I'll include the magazine in the sale It's handbuild in the UK by Paul Everson, The body is Honduran mahogany with macassar ebony top, 3 piece walnut/maple neck, ebony fretboard, 24 frets (plus zero fret), Tesla single coil & humbucker with custom ebony covers, EMG 3EQ, Hipshot USA bridge and tuners. The condition is like new 9.5 /10, set is low action, it sounds and plays fantastic This is the lightest bass I've ever played at only 3.0kg / 6.6lbs ! I bought this bass some years ago when I was looking for a light bass after regular gigging left me with a painful left shoulder. Bandmates were often surprised to find my bass was lighter than their guitars... It comes with a padded case, as pictured I'm asking £1100.00, which is what I paid for it Thanks for reading2 points

For sale is my beautiful Modulus Bassstar with Koa body. These are pretty rare. The bass has been used a lot, which shows. The body has a lot of small damages and usermarks. The neck is in good condition. All hardware and electronics (vol, pickup select, bass/treble) work like they should. Playability is good. It’s quite a light instrument with its 3,8kg. Asking €1850 I am located in the Netherlands. Pickup is preferred, but I could ship at buyers risk. No trades.2 points

I'd say more that the 10s are 'this cab sounds great' and the 12s are 'my bass sounds great'.2 points

Wiring fixed, a couple of terminals on the blend pot had shorted out. It's quite possible that they weren't in contact before and the 140 mile journey along the goat tracks that pass for a motorway system in England had got them moving very slightly.2 points

Reverb is a nice place to sell as it's mostly musicians. It's generally slower than eBay and a little less user friendly, but I much prefer it, I've sold to US and EU there with no hassle2 points

Depending on what the instruments are, and their worth, or collectibility etc, wouldn’t Reverb be worth a go from Denmark? If I was still living in the UK then selling on commission through a shop or right here on BC would be my main options. But from outside the UK, I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of selling there tbh. Just sold a couple of pedals on Reverb today. All I have to do now is wait for the courier to collect them and that’s it done. No schlepping on planes, trains or automobiles. No hotels. Just uploading a few decent pics to a website and write a quick description, set my price, and job done. Easy. When I start putting some of my more expensive or rare items on Reverb, I’ll have a clearer picture of it goes. But so far, so good 👍2 points

I suspect you'll probably be happier with the SuperTwin if you want clarity. The 10s do sound fantastic but they are definitely coloured in tone which to be fair is what they are meant to be. When you get your SuperTwin be prepared to start again with your amp EQ. That TE1200 is unbelievably clear through a SuperTwin so the EQ settings you use with whichever cabs you currently have won't necessarily be the ones you'll use with the ST. Also, bare in mind that the speakers need to be broken in over about 6 hours of playing at reasonably loud volume, they will basically get clearer and clearer whilst being broken in and then you'll have the true sound of that awesome amp and the cab.2 points

I'm not sure that's a great idea. You will have to pay VAT and import duty on every instrument and the UK market isn't great at the moment. Have you thought about selling them throughout the rest of the EU, especially Germany? There must be a German (or French, or Italian) equivalent of the Bass Gallery or Bass Direct that could sell your gear on commission.2 points

Boom! By Jove I think you’ve cracked it! I was indeed running the effects loop in parallel. Just tried it now with my Lindy Fralin equipped Lakland P (a reasonably high output passive bass). In parallel mode, input gain was around 8 o’clock and still an occasional flash of the input peak light. In serial mode, I could crank the input gain to almost 12 o’clock before the input peak light flashed. The loop has the TC Plethora X3 and a Sansamp v2 (so EBS > TC Plethora > Sansamp > EBS) and all effects were off. I’ve a new toy arriving (hopefully) very soon that will require a rewire of my board, so I will do more extensive testing to work out the best signal path.2 points

How would you get the guitars here? I’d suggest the better approach, I’d you’re desperate to sell, is to lower the price to a level where someone will buy them.2 points

Same scale, pickups & pre. But 16mm spacing on ETS headless bridge. Battery low indicator no longer available. Rear upper scoops less severe. If you zoom in on the images, the illusion of the 3D ripples in the wood is quite clear.2 points

That's because a plucked violin sounds like someone dropping ball bearings in a tin bath, whereas a pizzicato bass sounds sublime.2 points

I'm shuffling my pack so here for sale is a Soloking MJ1 Classic in metallic black with matching headstock. It's an homage to the Fender Roscoe Beck signature bass. Basic specs: Alder body, roasted maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Spoke wheel truss rod adjustment at neck heel. 21 frets. 2 "double jazz" humbucking pickups. High mass bridge. 34" scale, 38mm nut, weight is 4.45kg/9.8lb Controls: Volume, Tone, 3 way pickup selector, series/single coil switch for each pickup This is a great bass for not much money, I have gigged it a couple of times and it has performed excellently. Currently strung with D'addario XL nickel rounds, dunno gauge, sorry. I am looking for £200 posted, it will come with a gig bag and a strap.2 points

That's one nice bass! Mid 70s Fenders and their CIJ descendants are my favourite sounding of all the periods they were made. But I've never owned one because they are so heavy!1 point
