Afternoon gig for Trentfest at Thoresby Park. It had been hosing down all day but, undaunted, the crowd were sticking it out and enjoying the bands. It's a closed event for Caravan Club members and they had provided a decent stage, PA and sound guy. We did an hour's set and it went down really well, particularly when the sun came out half way through. My usual gigrig of Mike Lull P4 through my Handbox R400 with matching cab. Some 'just before we started' pics12 points

Sterling effort with the Andy Wales Blues Band at the Diggle Band Club as part of the Diggle Blues Festival last night. A home town gig for the band leader who is from the neighbouring village. I don’t think we strictly met the criteria of “blues,” but it was entertaining and went down well to a good sized audience. Even managed to get to the local pub afterwards for last orders. We had to travel light to fit the PA, bass gear and guitar gear and two people all in my car, so ended up using my Markbass traveller rig and Yamaha BB604. I’d swapped one of the Yamaha’s to flats, but the one with rounds sounded way better (suited the natural sound of that bass more) so the flats are coming off as soon as I get a chance.8 points

We played a 6-8 acoustic gig at Reveredin Delafield last night. An hour commute one way. We played outside to a lovely dinner crowd. The weather was fantastic. Not a big payday. However all 4 of us walked away with a hundred bucks. 10:30am sound check tomorrow morning for the full Maple Road gig at the car show tomorrow. Daryl8 points

One of the great things about Basschat is that you can put up an advert for what you want and people with that item can contact you. Also Basschat is mostly a safe place with good people. However, it is still a public forum where people who aren't so great can join. Recently we have had a few notifications from members who were contacted by people who have been here ages, offering great deals with pictures. These messages have some things in common. * The user has been here a long time but hasn't posted in ages * The image is exactly what you asked for * The user wants paying only in Paypal Friends And Family (note, you shouldn't use this payment anyway if you don't 100% trust the person) The whole point of "Wanted" is to get things you want, but please be cautious. Check that if the person contacting you has been a member for a long time, they haven't had a large break in posting - If you click their name to see their history, did that history stop in say, 2014, with nothing until last week? If you have been provided with pictures, do the following: 1. Download one of the pictures 2. Go to google.com, click on the top right where it says 'images' 3. Click the icon in the search bar that is a bit like a camera, next to the magnifying glass. 4. Click 'Upload a file' and upload the image you downloaded in 1 5.. On the right there will be loads of similar images, but at the top of the left section there will be a button marked 'find image source' If that actual image (not just something like it) appears on the internet, there will be a link to where it was shown. Now if that image is on another site, it could well be that the user is also selling the item there, but as most of the links I have found tend to lead to Bassics.de or craigslist in California, you can be reasonably confident that they aren't the actual seller. If in doubt, you can always ask the user for another photo that they haven't provided such as 'can I see an image of the right side' or something, a genuine user selling something of many £100s shouldn't have an issue with that. And remember, like so many things in life, if it doesn't feel right, don't do it! Also if you do come across issues like this, just report the post and we can look into it, even if it is a message.5 points

Although it's not finished, I've strung this one up to see whether the top was going to implode. It's been a couple of days, so I'm definitely pretty relieved. There's still quite a bit to do - the bridge is a temporary one, the nut is just a piece of scrap, the heel cap needs to be glued on, everything needs to be sanded properly, and of course it needs some finish applied. There's still set up and fret leveling and installing the pickup etc etc. However, I know you lot haven't been sleeping with the anticipation of it all, so here's a sneak low-res preview.5 points

Circa 83/84 WAL custom lined fretless £740 with one of THE best bass heads ever produced and a custom 12" + 15" bass cab fitted with Peavey Black Widows. Both amp channels on with the top passive channel doing most of the low end and the bottom para EQ channel doing the mids. It was a very nice bass tone. With BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam band approx 2yrs ago i think. BLOCKBUSTARZ unmasked earlier this year 2024 at a photo shoot. We took this one for posterity. Back RHS being happy. With Emergency Exit Punk covers band 2023. Not the sharpest of pics i'm afraid.5 points

Dep went ok and I remembered most of it. A couple of moments where I was looking at the set list wondering how a song went and caught up after a bar, but survived. Not a huge crowd and it was a bit of a Wild West town but still fun playing different songs. Didn’t set up the IEM’s and probably should have done as I was right on top of the amp so everything was going past my knees. Had some nice compliments in one of the breaks so I must’ve been doing something right 🙂5 points

Played a birthday party tonight. The birthday girl saw us at our first Newport gig and liked us so much, she asked us to play. Quite flattering really! So, we were back in Newport, playing at The Cab this time. Seems to be a former 80s (?) shop converted into a venue. Decent stage, basic PA, but they do have cabs to use. I was going through a Marshall 810, which was supplying my bass sound to the whole venue. I'm pretty sure that's what an 810 is for! It was a fun gig. Felt like less pressure, and I could hear myself much more clearly than the previous gig. The only unfortunate thing was that we had to go on first. One of our guitarists probably shouldn't have OK'd a gig on the same weekend as his girlfriend's birthday, so we went on first and then he drove back to his house, and then on to Cornwall. It felt like a long night after that. Signal chain was: Combustion GX-100 Mojo Mojo Bass Big Muff ABM-600 810 And we are Hora: https://linktr.ee/horadoom Next gig is Swindon on the 13th of July, unless we get added to a bill at Moor Brewery.4 points

Finally broke the back of V3 of the headless bass. I know it looks very similar to the last one but every single piece has been purposefully redesigned. Changes are: 1. Everything hangs off a T-shaped backbone. This simplifies the top and bottom body. It's also a lot stronger. It's also a lot quicker to make, suspect I can print and make this in 50-60% of the time of the last one. 2. The body is no longer a Telecaster slab, but is contoured and rounded. This took a long time to design. It sounds simple but probably took five to six weeks just to get the curves right and then a new printer to work out how to print it. I probably went through ten rolls of filament to try and get it right. I can also print at 5% infill with no fears of bending. This makes it thinner and lighter, so it's 38mm rather than 45mm. I might also be able to get another 3mm off it as well. This should reduce pressure on the forearm. The only supports are around the edge for the bottom curve and thats it. As it's thinner and lighter, its quicker to print. 3. The Ventori are significantly larger. The strength is still there, I can't bend it, but it's quicker to print and looks nice (at least to me). The pictures below are the same size (ish), just different zoom settings. 4. The internal construction has changed to make it easier to print. I can now print it and leave it to print for 24 hours as opposed to having to do things to it. I use plastic dowels to ensure things line up now. This should make glueing things not quite the exciting venture into the unknown as it used to be. 5. The accuracy and quality is massively better with the new printer (which is still a pain in parts). I'm now printing down at 0.1mm which is 3x thinner than before. I don't actually need to sand anything now 6. A lot of prints were printed to test. This is all of the same sodding piece to test various wrong ideas out, there's a lot more of these as well. Now to order some more aluminium for the backbone. I really could do with a CNC pillar drill, but am not doing that. Need to finalise the electrics. @neepheid and @JohnH89 I might be picking your brains if thats OK? Good progress though Rob4 points

For sale is my gorgeous olive green American Pro I P bass. These seem pretty rare these days, especially this colour, which I think is one of the best Fender have done in years! I swapped out the stock pickups as I didn't get on with the way they were voiced differently, and installed an Aguilar AG4P60. I also swapped out the stock wiring for one of Kiogon's looms. Both of these things made the bass sound even better to my ears, however I will include the original parts with the sale. Only one notable flaw, which is shown in the pictures; I have no idea how this happened! The small scratches you see on the back of the body are surface level only - I think they look worse in the light of the camera. Any other marks are just where it might need a polish! The bass is light, weighing in at 3.9kg (8 1/2lbs) and is sold with a Fender hard case. Happy to ship at buyers expense, but prefer collection or reasonable meet up. No trades on this, as I need to balance the books! Happy to answer any questions! Dave4 points

Beautiful Fender 60s jazz bass, MIM, professionally refinished in a stunning surf colour. Fender vintage pickups. Extra mirror and off white pick guards. Minor abrasions on the heel as should be evident in the pix. Otherwise beautiful condition. Lovely action and recently Pro set up. Would benefit from fresh strings.. SN - MZ6238969 Guitar Info Your guitar was made at the Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico in 2006 - 2007 Production Number: 238969 Not getting enough use at present, hence the reluctant sale. No case I'm afraid.. Would prefer not to send, but can possibly oblige, at buyer's cost! Any questions, just ask.... I may even know the answer.....!3 points

And the Ritter! My phone's photo gallery app thought it was about time to remind me of a lovely weekend in Oldenburg, Germany, exactly 6 years ago today. It decided to do so with this pic that I had all but forgotten: There was a beer tasting festival in the city (by chance we happened to visit on that day, and my girlfriend and I love a good craft beer). This was clearly afterwards.3 points

Was playing some Rod Taylor yesterday, it’s a simple but really great Bassline so I explored it more and it’s known by quite a few riddims , one being He Prayed Riddim, there’s so many tracks , pablo, Dillinger, burning spear, big youth, and of course Scientist Extra time one and Ice cream love has a nice variation to it3 points

A Super Compact or possibly Super Twin will cover a lot of ground and be louder than your Ashdown. Their 12XN speaker is designed not to colour your sound, making it a blank slate (of sorts) to cover the variety of tones you'll need in that type of band. I used a Super Compact for about 10 years and its a great do it all cab, and very easy to move around. Note you'll need to get an amp too, which will have an impact on your tone.3 points

Wee pedal clearout of things not being used on my board... Zoom MS70-cdr £55 posted gone Picked up recently on here to play with reverb and delay and stuff... loaded it up with bass amps etc as you can using Zoom effects manager, . Fantastic compact multi effects and ability to chain things up is lots of fun. Only selling as picked up a H9 - which in some ways is more limited, and compare like for like there's not much distance between them. Value for money its unbeatable, and Not many pedals have their own reddit Bright onion loop switcher £25 posted gone I put the Zoom in this, it is a loop switcher, it switches a loop in an out with a passive switch. It's not like a looper that will turn you into Ed Sheeran. It just turns things on and off. Mosky Dyna compressor £20 posted It's a 1590a one knob compressor. It compresses things, sounds quite nice and actually through hole parts inside! Probably more useful on guitar than bass but I've had it sat on my shelf for ages now and it's not doing anything. Irn-Bru clone of a Fairfield Barbershop £80 posted Clone of a Barbershop MK1 (Ie the big box) but in a 1950b (MXR size) - I like this and built it a few years back on the PedalPCB PCB measuring and matching JFets to the spec wasn't fun, used at church a couple of times (ie not hard gigged) and then replaced with one of my clones of a Smallsound/Bigsound Mini which is the same Topology. SolidGold FX Beta is in same group of low gain overdrives that add a bit of hair to your sound. I like this and don't really mind if this stays sat on the shelf, but it's in the photo so available if anyone is interested. Trades, you can try me Multiple pedals and the postage gets cheaper, pickup in-between Leeds and Bradford if you'd like. Questions, just ask.2 points

This is my extremely lovely Candy Apple Red Jazz bass. The best colour combo in my opinion. It’s in really excellent condition with no bangs, dings, knocks or scrapes. It has: Vintage style CTS pots. A lovely PIO capacitor. I think Tonerider pickups. I’m not 100% but the sound and wiring suggest this. Weight on my bathroom scales 4kg. The bass has a lovely low action with no rattles or flat spots. It looks, sounds and plays amazingly. The bass balances really well on a strap. I really don’t want to sell this but I’m struggling with Osteoarthritis on my left thumb knuckle. I’m currently having to play a Mikro bass and even struggle with my short scale. I live in Catterick Village and would prefer cash on collecting. I’m happy to post and prefer it if the buyer can arrange their own courier. It’s more straightforward. I don’t want any trades thanks. I would like £300 ONO please.2 points

In my humble opinion, there's no such thing as an 'Amp for Metal' or an 'Amp for Funk'. It's a lot about how you play the instrument and a little bit about how you set up the amp (if at all, I personally set the EQ flat, or a dip at 300Hz). Getting one you like the sound of is more important. I would try to play as many amps as you can, and/or watch reviews/demos.2 points

I thought a "real custom shop" would mean being able to combine a trad pickup 2 band Eq with a contoured body and an ultralight body, but sadly not.2 points

Well, been playing my 5 string Mikro as my main for a while, equipped with 2 J pickups, but while it is a growly beast, the notes very rich, and it has amazing sustain, there is just something about my 4 string Mikro with the reverse EMG Geezer Butler P pickup that I prefer. While the 4 string doesn't really growl in the same way the 5 string does it does have more punch and snap, dirtier in a way too, and somewhat dryer, with a less rich but more focused and fat tone, that I just really like, and that makes it take effects really well. And also I do prefer the narrower fretboard of the 4 string. However the last part of the fretboard has been damaged by haphazard mods, a chip has gone off at the last fret, and has been glued back on again, and I drilled through the fretboard too, when drilling guide/pilot screw holes for the neck. Now the frets has luckily not been damaged by this, it does play perfectly, and sounds great, but it also doesn't have the best sustain. So the new 4 string Mikro is for getting an undamaged fretboard, and hopefully a bass that has a bit more sustain, and perhaps a bit cleaner tone as well. The old one will then function as backup, or perhaps I'll raise the nut and convert it to a 4 string slide guitar.2 points

This thread looks like the right place. I played one of these at BassDirect last year (which sold) and loved it. I have been drooling over this one at Andertons since, and when it went on clearance with nearly 40% off I had to go for it. Arrived and gigged on the same day, no setup required. Sounds 100% what you expect it to.2 points
