  1. Absolutely hilarious evening. Was asked on Friday night to stand in to play corporate drinks background music. Received set list, mostly standards or tunes I've played before, a few curveballs, but stuck them on Spotify and listened to them on my way to work on Saturday morning. Decided I could have a better look on Monday morning - which didn't happen for various reasons. Had a quick run through of a couple of songs at 4pm and started at 5. About 50 people turned up and were mostly gone by 6:30. Was good to meet new musicians who didn't take it all far too seriously, lots of interesting endings, missed bridges and extra choruses. Sounded great and they loved us.

  4. Circa 1994/95 I bought my first proper bass after learning on a POS for the previous year. It was a Washburn B-10 and being the age I was, I adorned it with many stickers. Around 1998 I decided that this bass thing wasn't a phase and I needed a better instrument, so I bought a Musicman Stingray, which I still have to this day. Soon after, an ex of mine said that her little sister wanted to learn bass, so I donated the Washburn. I certainly didn't want it now that I had a shiny new Stingray. Fast forward to last week, when that ex messaged me on FB (we're still on speaking terms and we both now live in the same town) to tell me that her sister never really took to bass, and that she still had it somewhere and did I want it back? Of course I did! So I collected it last night, still in the same gig bag and with the same stickers on it! I was instantly transported to my teenage bedroom where I learned many a metal tune on this very bass and composed some of my first pieces of original material. The bass is still playable but there are some problems. The scarf joint seems to be starting to split and I can't get the neck relief straight enough as the truss seems to be causing a crack in the neck if I tighten it too much. other than that nothing a soldering iron can't fix. Anyway, I think I'll leave it as is as a time capsule to mess about at home. Moral of the story, try and stay on good terms with your exes!

  5. 1997 Pro-M with an East preamp. Purchased this Saturday just gone. Colour is Almond Sunburst. After over a decade I finally return to owning a Warwick and bloody hell I’ve missed them.

  6. I thought i was done but I was not. Did some rearranging. Added the One Control Mosquito blender. I need to dial in some clean. Took off the red muck and the paraeq deluxe and was able to squeeze my favourite distortion back on. i think I'll keep the paraeq for recording.

  7. I would just play it. I like the feel of bits of laquer missing. It helps me know where I am on the fingerboard. My '73 P bass has loads missing

  12. Just posted in another thread as well, but wanted to report back on the Rootmaster rig after its first gig. Loads of power on tap, only went to the third notch I think. The 2x10 and 1x15 are a great combo, loads of top end for the slappy stuff and then loads of thud for the soul and rock stuff. One cab in each hand for load in is just heaven as well, and the footprint is small which is perfect when your in a 7 piece playing pubs and clubs. Got some compliments on the sound which was nice as well.

  13. Lovely local pub gig on Saturday. Good crowd and always well looked after by the pub staff. First gig with the Rootmaster setup and it was superb. Lightweight, powerful and cut through well. Got compliments from a drummer mate who was there and the brass section.

  14. That's its present state, after quite a lot of work done (walls rebuilt, roof put on, water, septic tank and electricity now available...) it's never looked batter than now; I've no photos of the state when we bought it; here's some of the chain gang helping out in 2009, just after we'd put a roof on, and I'd bought a camera. Electricity came later...

  15. Nice vid/recording.👍 I use a stand occasionally, when my back is really killing me but only for practices. I find I end up picking the whole thing up because I want to move when playing. It probably defeats the object of using it! I noticed you were moving it about a bit too. I worry that the bolts are going to undo and the thing will collapse when I step away from it. That hasn’t happened yet but it’s at the back of my mind when I use it. 😏

  16. I believe it's more that quality control was very hit or miss. Mine is a decent bass which definitely has some quirks, but it's also worth noting that they were made in different factories at different times so it's not that easy to say they're all awful. Mine was made in the Cort factory whereas the one above was from the Sunghan factory.

  18. My blues band has a gig this coming Friday in The Duke, Woodbridge Road, Ipswich. Formerly known as the Duke of York, I can see why rebranding to move away from that association is a good move!

  19. 1a. Nope. 1b. Yep, because it's lacquered. 2. Not a problem per se, and the price tag is a tad high for that year. 3. Nope. With Fender fully lacquered maple neck, it implies a lot of work. It's an old bass, so it can't be as new or it hasn't been played at all. 😉

  20. It's the whole dance I can't stand. Having to over price something just so someone can knock you down to the price you wanted in the first place. Utterly ridiculous. Just list at the price you want. Take it or leave it. Simple. I'm currently selling a few bits of gear here in Bulgaria which annoys me immensely because people won't pay asking price for anything (as said earlier, it's a cultural thing), and when they sell things it's always overpriced. I refuse to play that game. The gear is listed at the price I want because I refuse to inflate it for haggle room. I've already turned down a few offers. I don't really care how long it takes or whether it sells at all. It's not costing me anything to keep it.

  23. Pretty much as new - some minor marks on the pickguard from some stickers I think. Set up with a low action, sounds and plays very good imo. I've always had pretty good experience with Squiers tbh. Acquired in a trade with the idea of having a rounds P as well as a flats P. In reality I just don't think I'm going to use it though. There are two options here: 1) £250 for the bass as is 2) £350 and I will include a fralin pickup and a Babicz bridge (in chrome) Option 2 does not include me fitting them, I just don't have a lot of time at the moment to do that I can post and have packing materials, less sure about spare gigbags though. I'll cover postage in the price but you will need to add extra for insurance or any exotic courier services...

  27. Indeed. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it today, especially now a bunch of bugs I found have been squashed. Also been tweaking my factory patch to add in some more stuff now that certain functions are working. Unfortunately it’s too late to include the additions as some descriptive literature has already been done, however, I’ll upload it to Neuro as soon as the pedal is active on there. Can’t wait to share a few clips tomorrow.

  29. I think the answer is not. Firstly not all 4x10's are the same and there will be a lot of overlap with some 8ohm units being louder than some 4's, you'd have to try them next to each other to be sure. The increase in power is not going to give you much more sound. Going from 300W to 500W will only give you an extra 2db where 1db is the smallest change noticeable. I think your comment about ear level is a good insight into what is going on. 4x10's are usually very loud for the audience but are notoriously directional, like a torch beam, with your ears a long way from the 'spotlight' everyone else is hearing your sound better than you. If you like the sound of your 2x10 then a second identical one stacked vertically will significantly increase your sound levels and the top speaker will be pointing at your ears, not the back of your legs

  30. Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the input. The serial number for the bass is actually C008452, which would make this a 85-86’ bass, right? The seller seems to think it’s an 89 for some reason. I agree it’s a little overpriced, but I am located abroad in an expensive country. On the other hand, he’s delivering it for free as he happens to be passing through my town on Sunday. I like my instruments to have an interesting history. That matters as much to me as it being a good instrument. My other bass is a 90s Yamaha TRB6II, also Japanese made. I’ve wanted a MIJ p bass for such a long time, but they always get snatched up before I can get my hands on one. It’s my 30th birthday soon so this is really fortuitous timing that this popped up at this moment.

  31. Its very well built Konig & Meyer (german). Have given it some welly, to test, 2hr gig & 3hrs of rehearsals and the joints have remained tight critically the angle (neck up down) the joint has ratchet. Its a gig/pain saver. So I will keep using and checking

  32. you're allowed to take a personal instrument with you on holiday if you want. Afterall you can take others things can't you? The whole contents of your motor home are possesions aren't they. I've never been checked on the way out of the uk, either tunnel of ferry

  33. Not so much a technique tip, but I wasn’t aware of how much string noise I was generating until I started practicing through headphones. No amp-sim, no reverb, just a headphone amp. It highlights technique issues REALLY quickly!!

  34. I always thought newer G&L headstock was really cool looking. I think it only works on 4 strings, beyond that it's a little bloated looking. There's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse headstocks out there regardless.

  38. Not a problem here. It's impossible to lose because of the way the couriers operate. I post the goods. The buyer goes to his local office inspects and pays for the goods and the postage before the goods are released. The courier then pays me. It's a superb system which should operate on every country in the world and takes all the risk out of selling / buying anything.

  40. This is precisely what it is. As well as getting a kickback for arranging the loan, the car dealer can also add a percentage on top. (Let’s say you were approved for a loan at 5%, the dealer arranges it at 7% and can pocket a bigger commission.) This is going to be another mis-selling scandal. Which details here: https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/car-finance-fca-investigation-what-you-need-to-know-a4eXb5u8VeBy When I went to buy my car, I asked for a cash discount and I got £50 off a £9000 car. We had a good chat and the guy told me that was because the fuel was low, and when I checked, it was.

  42. Selling my Quad Cortex with Neural carry case and a Pedaltrain Metro 20 with gig bag. I have no complaints at all about the QC, I found it super easy to use, sounds just astounding and I've loved playing with it, but I do not play live anymore, so it is better to go to someone who will make the most of it. I'm including a Pedaltrain Metro 20 pedalboard set up for mounting the QC with dual lock, and pre-drilled for mounting a Cioks DC7 (not included). The QC has some very light scratches on the bottom of the unit (see pics), but the top is perfect. Includes original paperwork, and the original power supply plus with an extra one that is a bit more robust (see pics again). Price for this package as new: about £1700. Well packed with free shipping. Insurance at purchaser's expense.

  44. Hi Folks, Up for sale only is my Bass Centre Bruce Thomas Profile Bass, which is in very good condition, plays beautifully and sounds great! I'm looking for £350, which is what I paid for this bass back in March when I bought it from @Steve1967 Here's a link to Steve's original advert. Hopefully, the photos show that the bass is in very good cosmetic condition and as said above, it really does play like a dream! It's also pretty lightweight too.. Reason for selling....? Well, I've always wanted one of these, but despite it being every bit as good as the reviews have said it is, it's just not getting any playing time due to my other 3 main basses - G&L SB1, BC Rich Eagle and Fender Jazz - but they're all twice the price of this one, at least . So, hopefully, this superb value salmon pink beauty will find a new Basschat home soon, as it really is too good to be sitting around unused! Collection only please from Potton, Central Bedfordshire, or I'm happy to meet up within an hour's drive from me if that helps. Trials very welcome here with your amp/ cab of choice.. And plenty of tea/coffee /biscuits available as per standard Basschat rules & regs! 😁 Any questions, please ask here or send me a PM. Thanks for looking.. 👍 Cheers Nik

  45. If any Basschatter’s are at a loose end on Saturday 29th in the Newcastle upon Tyne area, I’ll be making an exhibition of myself fumbling around on fretless and EUB at the fabulous Billy Bootleggers in the Ouseburn Delta kicking off at 5pm. Female fronted Americana/Country type thing. Come say hi, I don’t bite (unless you ask me nicely) 😎

  46. Gig at The Donkey in Leicester (or The Donkeh in Lestah in the local vernacular) yesterday. An afternoon gig in lovely sunshine in the beer garden with a nice stage and sound man etc. Decent crowd in who listened appreciatively and did some dancing on some songs, although as Mrs Ricksterphil pointed out, a concrete floor isn't great to dance on. We had the resident air guitar specialist at the side of the stage - he's a lovely old fella who uses his walking stick as his axe and 'plays' along at the side with a big grin on his face ☺ We did two sets and they both went down really well and we threw in 2 or 3 of our originals for good measure. Ended the set on that old chestnut 'Sweet Home Alabama' as it was requested. I'd never played this live before joining this band last year, but it really is a great song with a decent bass lines....and a bit of dirt in the chain doesn't go amiss. Here's a vid of one of our originals 'End of the Line' Yee-Haw https://www.facebook.com/100009594104526/videos/1598251874288550/

  47. I fookin' hate that question. What's my best price? A million pounds, that's my best price, that would be awesome, thanks. It's the laziest way to enter a negotiation possible. If you're going to make an offer, make it, otherwise, bog off. I don't see people who enter the chat that way as serious buyers - they're opportunistic tyre kickers at best.
