  1. So, the last board layout lasted a week, and the Finally is now relocated to the end of my chain. Used it at my gig on Saturday and loved it, as did the sound guy.

  4. I doubt you'll get anything better than an estimate if anything - wood be woody. If you look at a site such as Sweetwater in the States which publishes the weight of the actual basses they're selling (and have multiples to instantly flick betweeen), you'll find wild differences (sometimes +/- 1lb) in weight between supposedly identical basses. It's really a question for the retailer, who can weigh the one(s) which are right there in front of them, not the manufacturer. And of course, for that to happen, you're going to have to wait for them to become available.

  7. Original 1978 Fender Musicmaster Bass, made in USA. Has some signs of wear to be expected for an instrument this old. Included in the sale are the original 70s pots/cap, and the original pickup (they actually used a strat pickup back in the day), but the bass has new CTS pots and an Orange Drop Capacitor and the pickup has been upgraded to an alnico V blade pickup, hand wound by The Creamery. I can reinstall the original pickup and/or pots/cap, should you want before sending out. Do feel free to ask any questions. Great bass and a cool piece of history sure to go up in value. Can package up professionally and post for £25

  8. It's been almost a quarter century since I used to play bass. Back then I had black Fender P-Bass and I have to say I really missed it. Hopped over to GuitarGuitar and picked up a new Player Series P-Bass in Buttercream. I'm so far out of practice that it'll be like starting all over, but it's sure good to have another of these beautiful instruments back in my life.

  9. This reminds me of the calamitous gig where Plan B and Mel C tried to cover the whole of Kid A. Let’s not even think about the time ABC preceded XTC at the BBC and poor old Jools needed an EKG. Sorry, Gasman. Carry on. W sounds like a bit of a four-letter type.

  12. People love complaining even more than they love Avril Lavigne. Next year they should have a big stage where people can complain things are not as good as the olden times, it'll sell out no problem.

  14. I went on Saturday night too. 3 of my (now adult) kids came with me (Mrs C isn't a fan) and they all enjoyed it, though they are all fans. It was just amazing hearing Dookie and American Idiot played in their entirety on the same night. Saviors has some good songs too. At the end of the show Billie Joe just sat down on stage and took it all in. He certainly gave the impression of having a connection with the fans. Maid of Ace were good (but F*****g sweary), and so were Anything But Thieves (less sweary) I think it's easy to say your best ever gig was the last one you went to. So I need to go to a couple of others and see if I still think the same. And the obligatory photo of me and the girls resplendent in our stadium acquired "Stash" (I'm the one in the foreground 😀)

  19. Latest version - I have no amp now, just IEMs and sometimes I use Headrush 112s. My helix does pretty much everything, but its synths and filters just can’t do what I need, so the zoom ms60b plus and DigiTech cover those, switched via the helix’s twin fx loops. The Mel9 is in front of the helix but switched via the blue foot switch. This layout keeps my cables well away from dancing feet, and avoids any cable strain, I’m very pleased. Power comes from the power bar built into the pedalboard. (Harley Benton 60xl with power).

  20. True. I used to work in a watch company of 500 people. Watch is in a very hostile environment when it is worn in wrist. Yes, if you could analyze the chemistry between a wrist and a watch, you'd be amazed. Leather strap has a lifetime of 6 months to three years depending on the sweat. Naturally the surrounding environment has its effects (humidity, temp etc.). Remember: a leather shoe has far longer lifetime. We received reports about Ni allergy something like 100 / year. As we wanted to analyze these incidents, we opened all reports of one full year. Many products did not contain any nickel at all. No Ni allergy possible from the product used. Excluded. Some products contained nickel in stainless steel (316L) i.e. not in very soluble form, and not in direct skin contact. Excluded. Some products contained nickel (316L) and could be in direct skin contact, some indirectly via sweat like flush screws. There we could see around 20 possible cases that might be Ni allergy. Fine. But. We also saw, that many of those reported units were really dirty. Some of the units were obviously uncleaned and had been like that for a long time. To be honest, some of the units were smelling really awful. I am saying that cleaning hands (skin) and the instrument is the key to lessen any possible contamination which could lead to allergic reaction. Sweat is so tough that it can react with 316L and its less noble alloys. As nickel is present in all common stainless steels, less contamination is always better - sure it is a reasonable start to not use nickel plated strings.

  23. I know this is coming from a point of personal preference - but Squier are doing something different and I think their base range has improved under the increase pressure from exactly those models you've mentioned. And those mentioned don't look like a Jazz bass, which is what shifts models for Squier. And after all this, it could be absolutely rubbish and be discontinued after the first run 😅

  27. Just seen some of the Avril Lavigne set on YouTube, excellent performance, top notch vocals and backing band, really rocking to a capacity 70k crowd. I agree with a lot of the comments directed at the festival organisers that she deserved the bigger stage, more worthy than a couple of the female performers who shall remain nameless, who’s performances were at best mediocre.

  29. I have had these pickups in my parts drawer for some time and never got around to using them again, having a clear out £45 posted in the UK Heres the blurp form an old catlogue Seymour Duncan Active EQ Jazz pups. These were made in the late '80s/early '90s and had three DIP switches on each pup. These allowed different voicings of the coils and here's the blurb from SD describing how they used to be:-'Functions of switches on old-style "Active EQ" bass pickups We stopped making the switch pickups ("Active EQ") in the mid-'90s. We replaced them with the Pro-Active series. The little rocker switches on the Active EQ pickups change the sound. Switch #1 shifts the coil resonance. On a Jazz Bass neck pickup and a P Bass pickup, the resonance moves downward from 22 KHz to 6.4 KHz. On a Jazz Bass bridge pickup, it move downwards from 17 KHz to 4.9 KHz. The effect is to give a more focused sound with a harder attack. Switch #2 gives a broad band bass boost of 4 dB for the Jazz Bass neck and P Bass pickups, and 5 dB for the Jazz Bass bridge. The switches can be a very effective tool for changing the tonal "character" of your instrument.' The pups are used in conjunction with 100k pots, a 100uf cap and a stereo jack socket to activate the battery and this harness will be supplied as well.

  32. Came here to say this I was just looking up the story on that bass and stumbled upon a story by someone who claimed to be a friend of Tye, who says it never evolved past the two or three prototypes (one was a fretless apparently) because the involved Fender custom shop Master Builder got caught with porn on his work computer and was subsequently fired (?). There were also the Fender Heartfield DR-6 and DR-6C (the latter is a neck-through version) which have a reasonably goodlooking 3+3 headstock - though one could argue they're not true Fenders.

  37. My old man has been going as a steward for the last 15 years or so - albeit staying in a camper rather than a tent now he's the wrong side of 70. He just wanders around to catch random stages if not given guidance so I usually send him a few things to check out. Sent him off to Heilung this year and got a "what the hell was all that?" message back. I thought they were a weird lineup pick at first, but actually I've realised they're perfect - you want to wander round a stage you've never seen before, slightly wobbly on cider, and find a tribe of Scandinavians leathering drums with human bones over a drone backing. Glasto moment. He set off at 10PM last night and got back to Yorkshire at 5AM this morning, which isn't bad. Last time I went with him the flooding meant we spent 5 hours queuing to even get out of the car park.

  40. A fairly quiet one at a social club on the outskirts of Huddersfield last night, a bit of a come down after last weeks bikers rally. Our singist really had to work it to get them up an running and even more to keep em up. Still nowt wrong with the odd paid practice. First outing with the new Sandberg Lionel, didn’t have chance to change the stock strings to my short scale slinkies but they did the job. Amazing how much difference they can make the sound on identical basses in a gig setting…first time I’ve done a direct comparison at a gig.

  41. Today's gig, I'm on the left playing my shiny new mandocello, our new bass player on the right. He's actually very good - better than me. But I'm still playing bass elsewhere, and enjoying the change today on rhythm and backing vocals.

  46. The breakup sound on this new Ebs black haze 2 is incredible, my new favourite drive. Used it at practice and it sounds superb in the mix. Kind of reminds me of the Ashdown hyperdrive when dialed in ...but way more beef (not as thin as the HD) it does something great to the mids .highly recommend 👌
