  1. Just got this - but sat down and had a think, this will overpower the band. I’m realising that the Ripper just does what my band does. ive also just bought back my old Casady - with a view to getting a fretless version when they arrive so, this will just sit around looking ace. its a 1999 - no hard case, but Warwick bag. it came with 2 pickguards. The black one is better… it’s got some knocks…it’s well played. it plays better than any other musicman I’ve had though - I will say that. The blue pearl has a greenish hue now - more like an ocean turquoise…or teal. brand new 40-100 Ernie Ball “hyper Slinkies” i can ship - would rather have collected. Love it - but I’ve got to keep basses and costs down. so Offers around £1000 I’ve got in the bass. i can offer PayPal invoicing for splitting the cost. I’d have to factor in costs/fees for this.

  4. For sale, Euphonic Audio bass rig consisting of: EA iAmp 350 head. £195 350W into a 4Ohm load. In generally good physical condition with one or two signs of age. Extensive tone shaping, with 4 useable tone-shaping pre-sets and 4-band parametric EQ with boost cut and adjustable range centring. Excellent for bass guitar and double bass. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice a couple of extra holes in the top. These were drilled and tapped by a previous owner in order to fix it into a purpose-made carpet-covered wooden sleeve, which I also have somewhere in the garage if anyone is interested. They don't cause any issues with the operation of the amp and may even add a bit of ventilation. Supplied with a battered but serviceable GigSkinz mixer bag which is a perfect fit. 2 x VL110 transmission line cabinets. £150 each. These cabs were originally designed for bass guitar, to provide crystal-clear on-stage monitoring for Lee Sklar. They also work very well for double bass. They are 3-way cabs, with a 10" woofer, mid-range driver (2" i think) and tweeter. The tweeter and mid-range driver have separate level controls. The weight is a scarecely believeable 19Kg - I guess the transmission line porting adds some weight and they are very substantially built. Both cabs are in very good condition. I didn't buy them as a pair: the one with the red label is a very early one, the white label more recent and has a hand-made cover. The 10" driver in the red one was reconed using a kit supplied by Euphonic Audio in 2010 by a local amp technician and has been perfect ever since. The white one is unmolested and also works perfectly. Prices: The whole rig: £450 The iAmp 350 : £195 VL110: £150 each or £250 for the pair Collection from Ipswich is preferred, or a meetup within a reasonable distance. I can courier these at your expense but it will take me a while to find suitable carboard to package them.

  5. Late report on two gigs last Friday and Sunday for Mustang Sally, using our fourth dep guitarist who was actually very good and a nice chap with it. Friday was a closed pre-event gig for the exhibitors only at a steam fair near Taunton. Big beer and food tent, a stage made of pallets and a good number of farmers, traction-engine owners and general hangers-on made for an excellent gig. It was helped by a short sharp shower at half-time, driving even more punters into the tent – total about 150. Our native Dorset lady singist did a great job of calling the numbers that the generally rustic crowd wanted, they loved it and we got paid so that we can call that evening a success. Pix are of our setup in the tent and a showman’s engine all lit up (uh-huh-huh!) just outside. The Sunday gig was in my home town of West Bay in Dorset; my being on the event committee was always a good way to get a booking here! We played 15:30-17:00 straight through, including some new numbers. The stages are set up right on the seafront so we had a fantastic sea view the whole time. Sound was surprisingly good given that the nearest land in front of us was Guernsey (60 miles). About 200 people watched us as they ate and drank copiously under the sunshine, so a good time was had by everyone. And another success for our #4 guitar dep. – shame he’s already in two other bands… Next gig is in a seven day's time at a mid-week North Dorset county show; we’re back to dep #2 who is also pretty darn good, so hopefully more to enjoy

  6. After a lot of fiddling about with small wires, tinning, trimming, soldering, frustration with all the previous, I finally got the electrics finished and in. Blow me down with a feather but it worked first time. Volume on two pots and tone (well some version of tone) on the third pot. Pull out the first pot and it puts the two pickups into series mode and turns off the 2nd volume pot,the volume goes down though, which is a bit of a surprise, I wonder if I have the two pickups out of sync. Now one advantage of the way I've wired it, is that its a 10 min job to change what is the bridge wire and which is the hot wire for each pickup. That may be the solution (or not). Anyway, I originally used a NUIX headphone amp plugged into the guitar to check it works. Thats a mistake as the NUIX bass amps simulators leave a lot to be desired and it wasn't clear where the tone was. Plugging back into Logic Pro tidied everything up and I could breathe a sigh of relief as it sounded well. The differences are subtle though, the neck pickup isn't vastly different to the bridge and the tone control has a simple 0.047uF capacitor and the change in tone is there, but is very small. Something to look and think about. Strap buttons are on. It plays quite well (given that there are suspension bridge cables in use for strings). Needs some careful setup now. Next steps are dismantle it all, glue to the major sections together for a more strength, copper tape all of the insides to reduce hum, tidy up the wiring inside the control panel, take a Dremel to little bits of the aluminium backbone to get them flush to the body, polish and lacquer the aluminium, reassemble and then learn how to really set it up.

  8. Gone from the board: Source Audio Ultrawave Bass, Joyo Tidal Wave New on the board: Dirty Haggard Audio Broken The ultrawave was great (for digital) and the Tidal Wave is also an awesome bit of kit, bit for what I do it was too dark and the ultrawave too much effort to program. I'll reserve judgement until I gig the "Broken" but through headphones it sounds FILTHY! JPTR FX Jive as an always on sweetener, call76 always on, and drive duties now handled by the Joyo Monomyth.

  16. I bought a Sadowsky MV5, Japanese one that was superbly built - as they all are/were, but after the initial excitement of having a Sadowsky subsided, on gigging it, it just wasn’t for me. I bought a Sire V7 as backup and preferred mostly everything about it. So while I agree the Sadowsky was objectively “better”, I didn’t prefer it and it wasn’t a better gigging tool, for me. These “what’s better” threads are a great way to build a shortlist of stuff to try - but if you’re like I was at the time and just trying things on a whim based on internet praise and appreciation, it may not be a keeper, even though it is the “best”.

  20. I've been amazed too! Dep #4 was playing in another band at a mini-fest we gigged at. Our singist isn't backward in coming forward so just went up after he'd finished playing and asked him whether he would like to dep two gigs for us. He said he'd never depped before but would love to try! She sent him our generic setlists, he learned the ones he'd never played before in a couple of weeks, turned up and did a great job on two gigs for us - even helped carry the PA in! Solid gold, that guy... would love to have him permanently.

  25. I think that they're a Drum-Tec electronic kit, which use acoustic shells, but are a full-fat e-drum kit. The giveaway for the non-drum-nerds would be the black cymbals. Drum-Tec are very high-end; the sound in that video are proof enough. Splendid performance shown; well done all.

  28. Sideways pedals are wrong. a classic junior would do it and leave room for another. Lot of options to fit a power supply underneath too. However - you do not have to have on the board in the same order as the signal chain. So if the BDDI and the LMB3 are always on you can put them on the top row with the tuner leaving the ones you do have to switch a lot on the bottom. You just need longer patch cables to keep the same signal path.

  31. OP, I don't know where you are geographically, but with that sort of hefty budget I would definitely consider a day off & a road trip to a specialist stockist such as Bass Direct or the Bass Gallery. If you can't find it in either of those places, it doesn't exist.

  32. So I’ll put this thread to bed, after playing about with placement, buffer & powering options, the Heaby, as good as it sounds, was still thumping when switched. It would resolve when switched a few times, discharging that DC build up it seems, but then would build up again after a few minutes, which is a non-starter for me. Put my Fuzzdog Green Russian Fuzz back on the board and its switch is always super quiet, only a very mild click when switched. So yeah, done and done 🙂 Cheers Si

  35. I'm always claiming great things for the classic rock band... so in the interests of full disclosure... In our defence this was third encore after about an hour's second set so we were cream crackered. Sound isn't great on my phone. VID-20240804-WA0001.mp4

  36. One of my bands has a ridiculously talented blues guitarist, and he's only 22. But he's a modest and self-effacing as you can imagine. His other, indie band, were at number 3 in the UK physical singles chart and he's almost embarrassed by that. For me and his long standing drummer the only frustration is his reluctance to push the band as hard as he could despite much encouragement from working musicians. Hexs more likely to tell you how he's working on his vocals in response to praise. As the 'rhythm section' it's insanely easy to play with him as he can telegraph what's happening so we stick in a fair bit of improv, yet my ear and playing individually and as a unit has come on in leaps and bounds. I know I'm still way short of his standard - I'm so used to it, then sometimes I'll realise he's kicked up a gear... So yes, it's horrible to be stuck with a prima donna frontman, but if you find someone good who puts the band first, it really will lift you all up.

  37. I'm wondering if the idiot AI description's becoming so ubiquitous (even for fairly uncommon/sought-after instruments like this) so no-one can accuse the seller of being wilfully misleading in their ad. Nah.They're just lazy b@st@rds.

  38. Never been a fan of Aerosmith, except for the single they did with RUN DMC, but just because Steven Tyler’s voice is shot shouldn’t mean they have to pack up for good. They should get Brian Blessed in on lead vocals and continue touring and making albums. Then I might get into them. 👍

  41. Update. You may or may not know that I had a Monaco, the 12" version for a while and as I am getting a bit older and mor feeble and traded it for the lighter 10" Monza. The smaller size also makes it easier to load the car when I have the full PA loaded. I knew that I would sacrifice a small amount but as I never pushed them too hard. I did not worry. Yesterday we played The Greyhound in Blandford, Dorset. It was an open air gig and we usually play there twice each summer. However this was the first time I used the Monza there. I knew I would have to turn up the volume and I expected to have to tweak the low end a bit. I started to play and turned up and this lovely sound come out with plenty of usable low end came out. I had the feeling that it would have taken much more without breaking a sweat. I use it with my Bugera Veyron, and amp that gets seriously loud. However I am sure that the Monza would handle everything I could through at it. I am not on commission although I do get a nice cup of coffee when I drop in to LFSys World HQ in Casterbridge. Suffice to say that the Monza is a Hardy cabinet and it will not let you down.

  45. Being a tuned port I don't think it'd work very well. For live use I'd stick with what you're doing. I guess they might have heard that some old reggae recording studios mic'd the back of cabs and might be assuming it's the same.
