I received my Monza cab the other day after a short wait of only 3 weeks ,I am very impressed with the Cab and it pairs very well with my Ashdown RM 500 Evo II. So looking to forward to giving it a run out in our Party /Disco act which is slowly coming to fruition. Thanks Stephen for the great communication. Here she is taking pride of place in my LR for now.

I've been amazed too! Dep #4 was playing in another band at a mini-fest we gigged at. Our singist isn't backward in coming forward so just went up after he'd finished playing and asked him whether he would like to dep two gigs for us. He said he'd never depped before but would love to try! She sent him our generic setlists, he learned the ones he'd never played before in a couple of weeks, turned up and did a great job on two gigs for us - even helped carry the PA in! Solid gold, that guy... would love to have him permanently.

So I bought one….. Initial reports are good…. it feels good, but…. two loose pots caused me to open it up and have a look…. Christ! What a dogs dinner under there…. Scary stuff, but thankfully it was just a couple of loose nuts that needed tightening, all good now. I like the top hat knobs the previous owner put on it, so I’ll leave those on for now. All re-strung and ready to go, I’ll see how it performs in rehearsal.

Late report on two gigs last Friday and Sunday for Mustang Sally, using our fourth dep guitarist who was actually very good and a nice chap with it. Friday was a closed pre-event gig for the exhibitors only at a steam fair near Taunton. Big beer and food tent, a stage made of pallets and a good number of farmers, traction-engine owners and general hangers-on made for an excellent gig. It was helped by a short sharp shower at half-time, driving even more punters into the tent – total about 150. Our native Dorset lady singist did a great job of calling the numbers that the generally rustic crowd wanted, they loved it and we got paid so that we can call that evening a success. Pix are of our setup in the tent and a showman’s engine all lit up (uh-huh-huh!) just outside. The Sunday gig was in my home town of West Bay in Dorset; my being on the event committee was always a good way to get a booking here! We played 15:30-17:00 straight through, including some new numbers. The stages are set up right on the seafront so we had a fantastic sea view the whole time. Sound was surprisingly good given that the nearest land in front of us was Guernsey (60 miles). About 200 people watched us as they ate and drank copiously under the sunshine, so a good time was had by everyone. And another success for our #4 guitar dep. – shame he’s already in two other bands… Next gig is in a seven day's time at a mid-week North Dorset county show; we’re back to dep #2 who is also pretty darn good, so hopefully more to enjoy

I bought this from the classifieds here. My old friend @shug has one of these, and, despite being a remarkable human being, and probably the best bass player in the north west, he also sounds very good. At a festival gig a couple of months ago, his band were on after mine. My wife Jan and I stayed for the evening and enjoyed the show. This amp, through Barefaced 10's, and Shugs playing, combined to be simply sublime. So, I have to try one don't I? Anyway, it's here. It's not the best example you might find. It had loose DIY rack ears mounted with pop rivets which have now been removed, and the case is a bit battered and scratched. But it's functional, and I've spent a bit of time with it over the last couple of days. I have other splendid amps, some quite expensive, but this thing has me scratching my head. It sounds bloody marvelous! It's so present, so right here in the room, so hefty, weighty and toneful. It's got me wondering that modern amp manufacture has taken a wrong turn somewhere. Why didn't they just stop here? I actually can't believe that tomorrow night I'm choosing to take the cheapest bit of kit I own out for a gig, and I'm really looking forward to using it. Not sure where to post this... I've just built a sansamp clone. It works. I have a couple of spare boards, free to good homes. You'll need to be OK with surface mount, but nothing too tiny; passives are mostly 0805 with a few 0603. I got the pots from Tayda and most everything else from Mouser. Can provide full documentation and a reasonable amount of hand-holding.

Last hole cutting job for the plate was the trussrod access. I used the same method as with the tuner holes: And then back to the trials. Well, I reckon that scotchbrite is indeed the way to go @Aidan63 This is the Dremel disc I was using for the previous trial, and pictured with it the 'hi-tech modification kit' : And modded: And..in action!!! As the saying goes...'that will do nicely' So - plate is now glued to the headstock (using the same impact adhesive) and, after a cup of tea, we shall see where we get to

So my mate has this Warmoth Strat neck, and wanted a body with just 1 neck pickup and hardtail bridge. Needs to be light, just wants an oil finish …… and importantly wants to do all the sanding and finishing himself. Those happen to be my least favourite activities…. So said sure… I ordered some White Limba, I quite like that as a body wood. Very close to alder in tone (also relatively soft) but with nicer grain. The entire process only took a few hours, so just posting a few pics of “my bit”, and will post once my mate has finished things.

Was in a rock band during late 80's where drummer had a Simmonds kit altho he preferred the traditional snare but we regularly got comments from landlords about how we can turn the drums down and reducing overall band noise. Have to admit it did have a very full drum sound especially when doing a Phil Collins sound. He also had a sampling system attached to it somehow and was able to do the clocks from Pink Floyd Time. Great band and had a lot of fun with it. Dave

I don't know what you are doing with such a big cab when getting PA support. You may as well DI it as the cab reproduces flat enough that the DI would likely be closer to the cab sound than best mic job you could do.

I'd like to see a new Marshall bass head with a Class D power section, at least 800W of grunt, and the hybrid preamp section from the DBS heads (although maybe without the graphic, since they're "out" right now). In black and gold, with matching lightweight cabs with the Marshall logo prominently displayed. Do what Trace did with the TE-1200 - retain the classic tone, but modernise and simplify. They're iconic as a brand. I'd be more than happy to use one, assuming it sounded good and didn't break down like the MB amps used to. Chris Wolstenholme swore by DBS gear for years, and apparently bought up almost every used one he could find. I think he's switched to Markbass now, but those old Muse albums were all Marshall DBS.

GK800RB - The classic amp. Loud, punchy, authoritative and the most solid workhorse ever GK400RB - As above, just not quite as powerful (but still super loud!) GK Legacy800 - Fantastic tones in a small class D head Ampeg SVT II - 80's rock behemoth. Far too heavy and unreliable but what a sound...
