1988 PRS active bass in excellent condition - never gigged, studio use only. A few tiny marks on the body finish as you'd expect (see photos). With soft gig bag. Recently set up and sounding/playing lovely! Bought second hand in Antwerp in 2004 (receipt included) Collection only from Crystal Palace South London - Happy to arrange viewings/playings for interested buyers. Give me a shout with any questions, happy to help and thanks for checking it out!10 points

Well, no-one could accuse me of lacking in self-confidence but, word-not-allowed me, I was not expecting that! Just got to trim the excess round the sides and that bit is pretty much done10 points

Got this not too long ago - used only in studio for recording in comfort. As new. No dents. No scratches. Case queen. Super lightweight for a stingray. Mint case and all candy. Still smells new 😄 Nowt wrong with it - just reaching for my 02 old stingray more. Putting this out there to see if anyone wants a trade for a stingray 5 or maybe a classic. paid £1900 on wills site + added 100 for a fret stone and dress from Chris mcentyer (sei bass, who’s now in Edinburgh, used to be London based and is a renowned luthier) which means you can slam the action down to as low as the saddle will let you. I promise. price is a guide as id rather trade. But I think it’s fair. I think. I have two stingrays (a 2002 which I prefer) as you may know these are technically superior to the pre special stingrays. Extremely light, a much more refined pre, and roasted neck with perfect balance, SS frets the list goes on. hoping if anyone have an older stingray 5 to trade. Cash adjustment depending on condition etc. ideally after one of the 00’s builds (the ones with the tapered fret ends - if you know you know) using wills photos at the moment but I’ll get my own stunning photography up later lol. gimme a shout for more details. Come over for a tea and neerd out gear session I have years of feedback on BC. all the best guys!7 points

I received my Monza cab the other day after a short wait of only 3 weeks ,I am very impressed with the Cab and it pairs very well with my Ashdown RM 500 Evo II. So looking to forward to giving it a run out in our Party /Disco act which is slowly coming to fruition. Thanks Stephen for the great communication. Here she is taking pride of place in my LR for now.5 points

I've been amazed too! Dep #4 was playing in another band at a mini-fest we gigged at. Our singist isn't backward in coming forward so just went up after he'd finished playing and asked him whether he would like to dep two gigs for us. He said he'd never depped before but would love to try! She sent him our generic setlists, he learned the ones he'd never played before in a couple of weeks, turned up and did a great job on two gigs for us - even helped carry the PA in! Solid gold, that guy... would love to have him permanently.5 points

When you're done with that, I've got a stainless steel pot that I've burned apple onto ... could you have a crack at that too?4 points

So I bought one….. Initial reports are good…. it feels good, but…. two loose pots caused me to open it up and have a look…. Christ! What a dogs dinner under there…. Scary stuff, but thankfully it was just a couple of loose nuts that needed tightening, all good now. I like the top hat knobs the previous owner put on it, so I’ll leave those on for now. All re-strung and ready to go, I’ll see how it performs in rehearsal.4 points

Late report on two gigs last Friday and Sunday for Mustang Sally, using our fourth dep guitarist who was actually very good and a nice chap with it. Friday was a closed pre-event gig for the exhibitors only at a steam fair near Taunton. Big beer and food tent, a stage made of pallets and a good number of farmers, traction-engine owners and general hangers-on made for an excellent gig. It was helped by a short sharp shower at half-time, driving even more punters into the tent – total about 150. Our native Dorset lady singist did a great job of calling the numbers that the generally rustic crowd wanted, they loved it and we got paid so that we can call that evening a success. Pix are of our setup in the tent and a showman’s engine all lit up (uh-huh-huh!) just outside. The Sunday gig was in my home town of West Bay in Dorset; my being on the event committee was always a good way to get a booking here! We played 15:30-17:00 straight through, including some new numbers. The stages are set up right on the seafront so we had a fantastic sea view the whole time. Sound was surprisingly good given that the nearest land in front of us was Guernsey (60 miles). About 200 people watched us as they ate and drank copiously under the sunshine, so a good time was had by everyone. And another success for our #4 guitar dep. – shame he’s already in two other bands… Next gig is in a seven day's time at a mid-week North Dorset county show; we’re back to dep #2 who is also pretty darn good, so hopefully more to enjoy4 points

I bought this from the classifieds here. My old friend @shug has one of these, and, despite being a remarkable human being, and probably the best bass player in the north west, he also sounds very good. At a festival gig a couple of months ago, his band were on after mine. My wife Jan and I stayed for the evening and enjoyed the show. This amp, through Barefaced 10's, and Shugs playing, combined to be simply sublime. So, I have to try one don't I? Anyway, it's here. It's not the best example you might find. It had loose DIY rack ears mounted with pop rivets which have now been removed, and the case is a bit battered and scratched. But it's functional, and I've spent a bit of time with it over the last couple of days. I have other splendid amps, some quite expensive, but this thing has me scratching my head. It sounds bloody marvelous! It's so present, so right here in the room, so hefty, weighty and toneful. It's got me wondering that modern amp manufacture has taken a wrong turn somewhere. Why didn't they just stop here? I actually can't believe that tomorrow night I'm choosing to take the cheapest bit of kit I own out for a gig, and I'm really looking forward to using it. Yours, puzzled, Rob3 points

Not sure where to post this... I've just built a sansamp clone. It works. I have a couple of spare boards, free to good homes. You'll need to be OK with surface mount, but nothing too tiny; passives are mostly 0805 with a few 0603. I got the pots from Tayda and most everything else from Mouser. Can provide full documentation and a reasonable amount of hand-holding.3 points

Last hole cutting job for the plate was the trussrod access. I used the same method as with the tuner holes: And then back to the trials. Well, I reckon that scotchbrite is indeed the way to go @Aidan63 This is the Dremel disc I was using for the previous trial, and pictured with it the 'hi-tech modification kit' : And modded: And..in action!!! As the saying goes...'that will do nicely' So - plate is now glued to the headstock (using the same impact adhesive) and, after a cup of tea, we shall see where we get to3 points

For sale, Euphonic Audio bass rig consisting of: EA iAmp 350 head. £195 350W into a 4Ohm load. In generally good physical condition with one or two signs of age. Extensive tone shaping, with 4 useable tone-shaping pre-sets and 4-band parametric EQ with boost cut and adjustable range centring. Excellent for bass guitar and double bass. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice a couple of extra holes in the top. These were drilled and tapped by a previous owner in order to fix it into a purpose-made carpet-covered wooden sleeve, which I also have somewhere in the garage if anyone is interested. They don't cause any issues with the operation of the amp and may even add a bit of ventilation. Supplied with a battered but serviceable GigSkinz mixer bag which is a perfect fit. 2 x VL110 transmission line cabinets. £150 each. These cabs were originally designed for bass guitar, to provide crystal-clear on-stage monitoring for Lee Sklar. They also work very well for double bass. They are 3-way cabs, with a 10" woofer, mid-range driver (2" i think) and tweeter. The tweeter and mid-range driver have separate level controls. The weight is a scarecely believeable 19Kg - I guess the transmission line porting adds some weight and they are very substantially built. Both cabs are in very good condition. I didn't buy them as a pair: the one with the red label is a very early one, the white label more recent and has a hand-made cover. The 10" driver in the red one was reconed using a kit supplied by Euphonic Audio in 2010 by a local amp technician and has been perfect ever since. The white one is unmolested and also works perfectly. Prices: The whole rig: £450 The iAmp 350 : £195 VL110: £150 each or £250 for the pair Collection from Ipswich is preferred, or a meetup within a reasonable distance. I can courier these at your expense but it will take me a while to find suitable carboard to package them.2 points

It's why Spinal Tap continues to be relevant. There's common themes and people doing stupid stuff at every level! It doesn't matter the genre or location.2 points

The Stylophone Theramin is theoretically available for pre-order as of today. Theoretically because the pre order page on the website has crashed and they've sent out an email to apologise but there should be a chance in the next day or so for anyone interested to put a pre order in. https://stylophone.com/product/theremin/2 points

Not so long ago, bass players had to get used to the differences between acoustic double basses and electric Precision basses (with their amplifiers...); the wheel turns, and it's now the drummer's turn. No-one will bat an eyelid at the 'scaffolding' in a couple of generations from now; acoustic kits will be treasured 'retro' novelties for Grandads, playing that (very...) old-school 'rock' music.2 points

I'm pretty much doing as you've outlined and I could easily set input levels etc. but the feedback suppression seemed a good idea... so long as you lock it after initial setting. I've done mixes for my 2 bands in 3 locations (S/M/L venues) and using these as reference. If I know I'm playing somewhere that I anticipate returning to I'll save that as another 'scene'.2 points

Thats correct...our drummer has a number of acoustic shells with Roland or Drum Tec skins...+ the various Brains....they are so consistent and easy to mix and as you say a very full powerful sound...and no noise on stage. Ha2 points

Thanks. I actually put a strap on it for the first time yesterday and its very well balanced. I'd like to say its through careful design, extensive use of complex maths and constant iteration of various materials... but lets be honest, I guessed. Sadly its all going to be dismantled over the weekend, tidied up and glued (where appropriate). Its currently held together by screws and pins. Thats by design, and is significantly stronger than I expected. You could gig with it as is, but I do need to do the finishing bits that will annoy me, making sure the aluminium backbone curves perfectly match the printed curves, copper lining to ensure no hum. Surprisingly in my home office, it doesn't hum, no idea why as the amount of electronics here is approaching black hole density. So thats a nice bonus, but lets do the job properly, sort out the little bits, as I want to be able to say "its finished". Rob2 points

I don't know what you are doing with such a big cab when getting PA support. You may as well DI it as the cab reproduces flat enough that the DI would likely be closer to the cab sound than best mic job you could do.2 points

I'd like to see a new Marshall bass head with a Class D power section, at least 800W of grunt, and the hybrid preamp section from the DBS heads (although maybe without the graphic, since they're "out" right now). In black and gold, with matching lightweight cabs with the Marshall logo prominently displayed. Do what Trace did with the TE-1200 - retain the classic tone, but modernise and simplify. They're iconic as a brand. I'd be more than happy to use one, assuming it sounded good and didn't break down like the MB amps used to. Chris Wolstenholme swore by DBS gear for years, and apparently bought up almost every used one he could find. I think he's switched to Markbass now, but those old Muse albums were all Marshall DBS.2 points

Well, MrsAndjr1515 tells me that I am out of time for the rest of the day (as @Aidan63 guessed I might be ) , but it's been quite a productive afternoon. I set out just to experiment how best to cut the aluminium sheet but it went a bit better than that. And so - this is 0.2mm aluminium sheet. And it is proper strong and resilient sheet. But - it's actually just thin enough to be able to cut at least the outline with some decent scissors - and without deforming! Ignore the swirly bits, I was just experimenting. Hmmm...it's a long shot, but I might be able to use this as a real version rather than just a trial... But how to cut out the tuner holes. Clearly scissors can't be used and it's too thick for a Stanley knife. But maybe a curved chisel? I tapped both sides round the circle and then stuck the Stanley knife in every mm or so round the work-hardened punch line and, with a little bit of wiggling, the bonds snapped and the centre came out fine: Then, a clean-up with the Stanley knife to the pen line: And I just have the truss rod access and final external shape trimming to do...which will have to wait until I've served my penance helped round the house a bit, starting with hoovering the little bits of sharp aluminium stuck in the spare bedroom carpet Oh...and the weight? 8 grammes - exactly half way between the weight of a gnat's whatsit and a smidgen! Who'd have thought?!!2 points
