Have been on the lookout for a while for a Fender US Standard 2013-16 Precision in Olympic White with maple neck, weighing less than 4kg. I’ve found recently that on brightly lit stages I can’t see where I am on a rosewood fretboard. Having a bad back basses under 4kg are my limit and for some reason even though I’ve arthritis in my left thumb playing a big fat neck doesn’t cause me pain. I’d decided to seek one out as Precisions are my fave basses so I’m going to play them until I physically can’t anymore. This one, a 2014 turned up so I bought it. Has a set of 45-100 Chromes on it and they sound & play really nice.20 points

Well the great swap-out continues. Been on a major Jazz kick since the start of the year. I started off with a Jazz, 25 odd years ago and moved on to Precisions within a year or two.. Aside from the odd Ray or Tbird here and there, it's been mostly P Bass all the way. I did have a lovely 2011 US Standard Jazz with a maple fretboard and absolutely loved the look and feel of it, but there was a big gap where a rosewood board Jazz should have been. I've always preferred rosewood boards on Jazz basses. Not sure why. Look? Sound? maybe both? Earlier this year I picked up a QMT Deluxe Jazz in Amber and a 60th Anniversary RW Jazz in Firemist Silver. Both those instruments are absolutely stellar and they just made me hungry for more. So out went the lovely sunburst and maple Jazz and in came... A beautiful 2020 American Pro II in Mercury. God I love thing!!! The neck is incredible!!! And the finish is glorious. Needs a set of new strings, a setup and I'll probably stick a Hipshot Xtender on it, but yeah, I think this is going to be Numero Uno for a few live projects for a while...8 points

Update: my mate sold me a Squier Sonic Precision for £100, and I put the neck from my Squier Jazz on it, and it was a dead-on fit. Put a set of La Bella flats on, added a tugbar and a 3-ply pickguard, and it's just an amazing bass, I had no idea a Precision with a Jazz neck would be the perfect bass for me but I have a feeling that this is. Blown away at how great a bass can be for Harley Benton money. And, it's blue 👍7 points

Here is my very recently purchased Spector Ethos 4 in the most beautiful colour, Plum Crazy. This has only been used a handful of times at home. Only selling as I have bought another bass from a member of this shire and I have a strict policy of one in, one out. This is setup beautifully with a brand new set of LaBella stainless steel strings (45-105), plays like a dream, sounds amazing, and feels incredible. Thru neck design, brass nut, Ebony board, 12th fret inlay, Luminlay side dot markers, Darkglass Tone Capsule preamp, EMG pickups, and super low action. No scratches, dinks or dents. Comes with the original box as these don’t come with a gig bag. I have a new Gator Pro gig bag that I will sell for an additional £75.00 This bass is in brand new condition. It came direct from the distributor and has never spent anytime in a shop for others to play. It cost me £1575.00, so this is a real deal/bargain. Can post at buyers expense and risk, or will meet within a reasonable distance. Collection from Cowbridge, near Cardiff/Bridgend/Swansea, available. Bank transfer or cash on collection only, please ☺️ PS - Please don’t ask me what it weighs as I have no idea, and I have no way of weighing it, but it doesn’t feel massively heavy to me 🫡6 points

I have a green sparkly Dingwall D-Roc 5 string. It is not for me. I spent a happy hour playing more basses than I need tonight and several are going on manoeuvres to other locations. It is in as new condition. Fanned frets? Not a problem. I just have too many basses, and am feeling other ones more than this. Obv, in a perfect world I would keep everything, but I do not need to be owning basses in double figures. I have taken shots with flash and without flash so you too can enjoy that sparkly goodness. I did a video but it was too big. Which is a shame, it was sparkly. There is no denying it, they do a lovely metal flake. It comes with the Dingwall gig bag which is really rather nice. The price is posted to your door.5 points

Thanks to @Sonic_Groove I am now the proud owner of an early 2000s Eden WT1205 with an EDEN 610XLT cab and a 500w Eden Time Traveller combo... All the proper USA built stuff. Just got it all home and given it a very quick test run, I forgot how much I genuinely like Eden gear! I used to have a WT800 with two 410XLT cabs and it sounded epic with a USA Spector NS6XL - playing my ACG through this rig makes for a very similar tone. Very happy indeed!4 points

Update - Now £875 and for sale, was previously just for trade. Made in USA in 2013. It was blue, and then had a DIY strip, then oiled, not a pro job by any stretch, just fun and functional. The back of the neck was sanded to get the lacquer off, this gave it a vintage vibe / blend to where the lacquer remains at either end, which I tried to photo. Lindy Fralin pickup, regular wind 👌 Matt black single ply guard, from same maker/material as the 90s EBMM guards. Marks from truss rod adjustment are pictured. Weight is approx 3.9kg / 8.7lb Wearing TIs in photo, but is now string with Fender flats. Great bass, but oddly for me my CS Jazz is getting much more love and attention, so this advert scratches an itch as I don’t like seeing a bass just sit there. Sorry, I’m not into trading by post, and collection from Chesham, Bucks please.4 points

As a delivery driver back in the 70's that's why I got stopped by the police for speeding - pouring with rain and the only way I could get the wipers to clear the windscreen was to drop a gear (column change, only had 3 gears plus reverse if I remember) and speed up! When I explained how the wipers worked the young policeman seemed to understand, and told me I was lucky to get off with just a warning.4 points

Thanks for the advice concerning the Yamaha, it checked out well, nice guy, gave it a thorough demo. I would describe it as, “very good used condition” very slight scratches and one or two small chips, gives the impression of having been used, but not abused, but not so pristine that one is afraid to make the first mark on it. now looking for decent used case or bag for it, my first thought is a hard case, but interested to hear opinions on bag v case. thanks again.4 points

YAMAHA BBP34 MIDNIGHT BLUE PRO SERIES MADE IN JAPAN - TRADES I got a BBP34 this year and was so impressed I ended up buying two ( I do prefer the sunburst though only slightly ) - one for flats one for wounds. I will always have one in the stable as I believe they are the one of the finest traditional sounding basses ive played but having two is maybe a bit excessive. Used it only for studio work; no dents on the body some signs of use though and a small nick on headstock (pictured) perfectly balanced with I.R.A. treated wood. build quality is second to none and overall precision is next or higher than Fender custom shop/ new special musicman etc which you can see when you closely inspect it. These have a really hefty retail; and don't come up for sale much. dual action truss rod that is really easy to dial in and makes achieving perfect flatness with no fuss (used labella heavy and ultralights elixirs on this and setting the neck was insanely easy and quick) So i'm considering letting this go in favour for a trade and see if there's anything out there to expand the collection. Trades: of equal or higher value (I have cash to add if needed) show me what you got, wouldn't mind something modern, fretless or even a bit wacky. Comes with the premium Yamaha mega case and with all manuals, ownership certificate and tools et. IMG_8784.psd3 points

Up for grabs, sadly (as we all say) is my 2010 Musicman Stingray. It’s a 2-band, black/roaewood combo - the best IMHO. It’s in excellent condition - few indentations, nothing major at all. Pickguard has some wear, but I’ve left is as it’s what it came with. You may be aware of Stingrays with the weak D/G string issue - it’s real, and mine had it. I had the pickup replaced by my Luthier with a Nordstrand - and the problem was fixed. The strings are now equal volume. Original is not included - there really is no need for it. I do genuinely love this bass - some sentimental reasons - but I never use it. My band hate it, so it never gets played. I plan to get something passive instead, as my main bass is my Ricky. As a result, this needs to be used and played. I bought it from Will at Bass Bros. It had an old gig bag, which I dumped (always use my own hard case). I’ll supply a new gig bag with it if necessary. According to the original listing, it comes in at 9lbs11oz, or 4.4kg. Quite light in Stingray terms! 😉 I’m asking £1350 for this, included a courier (at buyers risk) within the UK. I’ve bought, sold, and sent many basses on here over the years, so please buy with confidence. Not really looking for a trade, although I would consider anything ‘R’ related, as that’s where I always end up! 😀 Paypal ‘gift’ or bank transfer, please. Please PM with any questions - thanks for looking! SB 😀3 points

This is new today! A mandolin from Thomann for £50. I did a bit of research before buying and the consensus seemed to be that if you could: fit decent strings sand the bridge to fit the arch top properly set the action set the intonation then it was a pretty good instrument for the money - and so it has turned out! It has an adjustable bridge so setting the action is straighforward. The reviews were right - the bridge isn't bad quality but on arrival doesn't fit the profile of the arch-top:3 points

Ok, I've got them to sound almost alike tonight. All it took was a slight increase in low mid and bass on the MK-III, about 1 o'clock as opposed to flat. The Mk-III also needs to be higher on the input Volume to achieve the same level in the room, with both Masters set at noon. This could simply be differences in pot tapers as the MK-III is actually supposed to be louder in terms of wattage. I'm very happy with these. Who'da thunk it? Rob3 points

My mate sold me his Squier Sonic Precision in California Blue for £100. I put the neck from my Squier Jazz on it, and added a tugbar, and it's amazing, it weighs about 2kg, sounds better than a £100 bass has any right to, and it's California Blue. With La Bella flats on 👍3 points

So, the GK's are multiplying. This arrived today, a MK-III. All working well and sounding good. I actually downloaded the manual for this one, and I'm thinking now that I was using the MK-II in a way not intended. I have been setting the Volume around noon, the boost around noon, and bringing up the Master to suit for volume in the room. The manual on the other hand says to set the Master and Boost at noon, and then bring up the Volume to set the levels. This kind of goes against anything I've heard of before and I would be interested to know how you guys use them. I know @shug sets the Master and Boost high and uses the Volume to set the level. I've had about 10 minutes with them this afternoon, just to make sure everything is working. I'm going to do some more comparisons tonight or tomorrow. My first impressions are that the MK-III does not sound exactly like the MK-II, but it's really close. It may have a softer attack and be ever so slightly brighter, but it's still very very good, and I'd prefer it over the other amps I have. This exercise has also made me wonder if the MK-II needs a service, as setting the Master volume higher, (ie at noon) introduces a noticeable but not unreasonable 50hz hum. The MK-III which arrived to day is almost silent even at high Master settings. Anyway, all good fun! Rob3 points

The thing that always puts me off these is that they use that same awful massive bridge that all of the Chingrays had before SBMM was a thing. It makes a really good looking bass seem cheap and nasty looking. Even Ali Express sell the smaller EBMM style ones so it's not like they can't have them made https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32845656954.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.71.5f643IOS3IOSc7&algo_pvid=6d261ab9-c8db-4a8a-8d1f-a967595361df&algo_exp_id=6d261ab9-c8db-4a8a-8d1f-a967595361df-35&pdp_npi=4%40dis!GBP!10.14!6.69!!!12.82!8.46!%4021039e0c17242193480226654e3082!65171794813!sea!GB!2087865099!X&curPageLogUid=XvmOUqe9F450&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A3 points

Selling my trusty JMJ Mustang bass after several years of excellent, if infrequent, service. Bought it used a few years ago from here and mainly used it for recording. It’s in great condition and comes with the extra black scratch plate and tags. Currently strung with some well played-in La Bella 760F-MUS strings and there’s also a set of some used D'Addario nickel rounds in there that I would swap over occasionally depending on the gig. It’s a fantastic sounding bass. Only selling as I’ve just bought a Wilcock bass that will cover the same ground. It’s in the Fender gig bag it came in which is looking rather sorry for itself (thanks to my three cats) but still does the job. Collection from Peckham SE15 preferred or could possibly meet up somewhere in London if necessary. Not after any trades thanks. Simon2 points

Didn’t ever expect to be selling this.. ever. But Car and personal stuff means it has to go. The pics do most of the talking! These were very expensive new and this has had a lot of work done to it over the past year. It had a pro set up at ATB guitars and sports a customised Bartolini preamp from Dex audio with a very narrow range that just keeps it all super useable in the real world. Controls are: volume, bass, treble, with a pull for low mid boost and a switch for each pickup to toggle between series/parallel/single coil It has an almost Stingray ish sound from the humbuckers and is surprisingly warm and rich. Neck is slim and flat, like a jazz bass meets a status, the most comfy neck I’ve ever owned. (In Over 300 basses!!) The balance is spot on and the truss works fine etc. its collection only from Cheltenham, no postage possible at all I’m afraid. £700 or offers There are minor marks, mostly on the back and the weight is super light, just shy of 7lbs2 points

Since getting my Ibanez headless bass I have keeping it in a floor stand - this created constant anxiety due to me being the owner of a couple of excitable dogs, so I decided to try a wall mount, bought one of these : https://www.dangleberrymusic.co.uk/products/nordell-horizontal-guitar-wall-hanger I actually got mine from their Amazon store at £23 ish but note they are actually cheaper elsewhere - delivery was very prompt. It is designed in the UK, but of course manufactured in PRC, I would actually describe it as 'okay', reasonably sturdy, fairly simple to install, averagely made - it didn't come with a wall fixing kit i.e. rawl plugs / screws - you will need to buy those and be prepared to drill and screw it to your wall. It doesn't fit a bass particularly well but does work, even the small brackets are a little too wide for an electric bass. My guess is that they have tried to make it fit everything, including acoustics, which had compromised it a bit. It also remains to be seen whether the allen key bolts which hold it in position will hold firm with time. I thought people might be interested to see pictures and I am also curious about any better alternatives - any suggestions? J2 points

TRACE ELLIOT GP12 SMX 1X15 COMBO 280 rms, 12 band graphic and dual compressors. Adding a 2nd 8 ohm cab no problem. Combo is in immaculate condition considering its nearly 40 years old. No rips / tears, no faults, all working beautifully. Castors fitted for easy transport. By the way, its LOUD Collection only, sadly.2 points

Up for sale is my Jim Deacon short scale Precision bass. Cool 30” scale P bass that I had intended to mod but I’m so happy with my Guild Starfire I’m not going to bother so may as well move it on. Fitted with DR Sunbeam strings and comes with a Fender short scale gig bag. £120. I’m pretty sure I have a box in the loft so can be posted if necessary.2 points

Your name is Smalls and your band is playing jazz blues or blues jazz. Obvious name: Isle of Lucy. Named after the famous "The Isle of Lucy jazz and blues festival". I've got one. It's compact but not really tiny - maybe he's a big lad in the pic! Replaced the (very) bendy original bridge on mine with a less bendy 80s MIJ 3-point, but otherwise it's stock. That's a DiMarzio Model P on mine - but some (probably later ones) had generic MIJ pickups. Gotoh tuners (doubt any had Schallers from new) & weighs 8.8lbs/4kg, but maybe slightly less without all the dust. Would definitely trade up to a Track IV - always fancied a 2xP but (somehow) never had one. Yet!2 points

Go for it. AFAICS, they were well-made and less of a risk to buy than the Squier Affinity or even the more expensive Squier Vintage Modified from the same era. Only the Squier Classic Vibe was as secure a buy as the RBX, but the CV was a lot more expensive. I tested all of these against each other between 2011 and 2014, and to me the RBX and the CV came out on top.2 points

Yes, Chris and I had this conversation. It’s based around the Czech Ease bass I own. I bought it as a lightweight and easy to carry bass for gigs when the metal one was too heavy. Now the metal one has been replaced with a wood one, I now longer need two. Solves a problem I don’t have. So that’ll be up for the cull after my holiday as it’s currently used as a cat bed.2 points
