I'm reluctantly selling this lovely early original sei bass no 17, unsure what those pick ups are but it sounds awesome, very lively & has a kind of wal thickness to it, excellent condition with a super low action, bartolini preamp, green & red side led's & hardly any fretware, ebony fretboard, any questions please ask, Thanks for looking Allan11 points

Never paid to play but I have given my fee back a few times on gigs where there was a charity involved and there was a payment involved. Being a Yorkshireman I think it's illegal for me to pay to play.......almost a hanging offence, at the very least I'd expect to have my black pudding ration halved.7 points

Been using this chopped carbon wrap on scratchplates.. the one on my z7 fits well enough to not need screws..really pleased with look without the screws. Swapped out the neck pickup for a slightly punchier big poled version. Better volume balance and a more cohesive look.7 points

No. Never. One of the reasons why The Terrortones only once played in Manchester, because every other venue we contacted wanted us to guarantee the sales of x number of tickets. We always told them that they're not London in the 80s anymore and even London venues now were paying us as well as supplying food and drink. If Manchester didn't want us that was their loss and we'd play Liverpool instead where again we'd be paid and treated properly.6 points

Gig last Saturday at a festival called Nashville Days in Swinford, Leicester. Headliner was Luke Combs UK Tribute and we were one of the support bands. Decent crowd, it was a ticketed event and had sold out so they were all up for it. The sound on stage was a bit meh as we were in a marquee but as backline was provided it was an easy set up. My Mike Lull P4 did the business as usual, not sure what make the rig was but it sounded ok. Some ladies did some line dancing while we were playing which added to the atmosphere, particularly when we played one of our own songs called 'End of the Line'5 points

Likewise, on re-starting studies at the Open University I received a Playmobile lookalike folk musician (right hand side, playing 'recorder'). Henceforth any item I advertise without my mini-me in the photo will be FAKE!5 points

Here it is! The long-awaited and repeatedly promised mega-update to Tomreadbass Transcriptions! Every time I was getting close to finding the time to upload the new charts, I suddenly found myself with a new gig to prepare for, a website order, preparation of teaching materials etc. These all resulted in EVEN MORE NEW CHARTS being transcribed, so all the update has been delayed - it is even bigger! Today, no fewer than 90 new charts have gone on the website. Some of these are enhanced versions of existing charts, but most are brand new, and the site now houses no less than 1396 accurate FREE bass transcriptions. Yes, free (but thank you to those that have kindly clicked on the "Buy Me A Beer" button which has contributed to the hosting fees - and the occasional end-of-transcribing-session beer!) OK, highlights of the new stuff with direct links (but everything is searchable from the main website): Some corrections and enhancements to this brilliant original bass-featured compostion by U.S. bassist Gary Gould - That's my fave line to use. I also use it with bassists in support bands who turn up at a gig but conveniently have forgotten their bass/amp or cab. When I was in the KISS tribute band we had pyro on stage and put notices on the PA cab to stay away from the edge of the stage. Once, at a gig in South Shields, two numpties decided they wanted to sing on the chorus of a song so clambered up onto the stage just as some pyro went off behind us (luckily nowhere near them). That was enough for me and I downed bass and headed to the dressing room while my bandmates stood there perplexed. I refused to perform until the in-house Promoter came and saw me and got his act together/sorted security.... It was a tense half hour of no band onstage but I'd do it again every time. The stage area is sacred ground and NO punter shall enter it without permission.4 points

My new bass arrived this morning, and I was pleasantly surprised to see DHL delivering on a bank holiday. After a quick inspection, I started customising it to my liking. It’s a 2022 Sienna Sunburst Player Mustang Bass. I played around with my SS Squier PJ Jaguar bass, which already has short-scale cobalt flats. However, I realised I don’t enjoy the cobalts on a short scale as much as I do on my Thunderbirds. So, after installing the hi-mass bridge, I rummaged through my box of ‘worn-in’ strings and found a set of short-scale LaBella flats with orange silks. I put these on and set up the bass. My initial impression is that it’s a keeper. I made a template to position the thumbrest using my spare JMJ pickguard and carefully drilled some holes with a miniature hand drill. I’m very pleased with this bass. It offers something slightly different from my JMJs and feels and sounds great with the flatwounds. I was considering removing the switch and wiring it like a jazz bass, but I’ve decided against it. The switch provides three easily selectable sounds, including the bridge pickup soloed, which surprisingly is my favorite — at least through my practice setup.4 points

Woof what a looker - yeah nice bass. Can’t plug it in till Thursday but a short scale that doesn’t feel small - string spacing is key when you have King Charles sausage hands - 42mm nut width has feel of a violin bass. Also it’s light thankfully- just need some nice flats. I usually use TIs on long scale - but had the on a mustang and was too floppy - was thinking La Bella Mustangs - I’ve used them before but can’t remember if I liked them, but wondering what Pyramid golds are like and if you can string through - any recommendations? I don’t like them to stiff ..oh er.. or heavy3 points

It's a great tuner, for sure, and LEDs perfect for dark stages. Best? No idea! But as a super easy to use bolt on to a compact and cheap multi-fx, what's not to like?3 points

Now I have had a chance to get used to the player mustang, there are a couple of issues/niggles with the electronics. Nothing major but enough that I'm going to attempt to fix them. First, when switching to the jazz/bridge pickup soloed, sometimes this results in no sound whatsoever. The neck pickup and middle position are fine. After considering whether to replace the switch with a blend pot or another switch, I decided that I'd prefer a better switch, so I have ordered a short switchcraft one. I'm thinking that it might have been better to order a right-andled switchcraft, but I'll see how the short one is when it arrives. Cleaning or messing about with the existing switch wasn't an option as in my experience any fix will only be temporary. The second issue seems to be a widespread issue with the player mustangs due to how they are wired. When the volume is at any position other than full, turning down the tone results in a big loss of volume. The best explanation for this I have been able to find is that these basses use a 50s style of wiring where the volume control is wired back to front, and the fix for this is to swap around the two wires at the volume pot: 1. from the output of the switch, and 2. to the tip of the output socket. I will try this mod, and replace the switch when the new one arrives, and report back on whether this fixes the issue. Factory wiring: Proposed modification - desolder the two wires marked red at the volume pot and swap their positions:3 points

Just do your due diligence - this place is not immune from bad actors, cosy and friendly though it is. Check for a feedback thread, check the person's posting history. If something feels off, walk away - it's only a bass/amp/whatever. Report concerns. BC as an entity should not be held responsible for what a few bad apples do (or try to do). You need to take personal responsibility for your own online safety.3 points

NBD.... Following a short scale transformation with a Serek "the Grand" I just HAD to get a matching 5 string Serek....... Both are incredible basses, the build quality, workmanship and sound are just what I was looking for. The Grand is strung with LaBella low tension flats and the Midwestern 2 is strung with Newtone Shorties.3 points

The Quad IV is a valve preamp married to a full bodied MOSFET power section. The "Quadrumatrix" selector switch allows you to radically change the preamp configurations. This special switch does more than just select preset sounds; it actually switches the center frequencies of the EQ, creating warm and smooth sounds (setting 1), straight sounds (setting 2), edgier hard sounds (setting 3) or beastly heavy lows (setting 4). All of the Quad IV``s features combine to create the ultimate 4-in-1 sound chameleon. 400 watts, 19", 2U. Three ECC83 valves Quadrumatrix dial to alter basic tube characteristics. Rotary controls for gain, bass, mid 1, mid 2, treble & master out. Separate low & high boost, mid shift 1 & 2 switches. Phones jack, mute switch. Rear panel: groundlift switch, DI out (switchable pre/post), parallel effects loop, tuner out. Fan cooling (temperature controlled). Weight: 33 lbs. / 15 kg Depth: 16.93 in. / 430 mm2 points

Has a few chips here and there and the black is a nightmare for showing marks. It's been used and enjoyed! No fret wear. Always had flats on tbh. Been a fantastic bass, but resent Jazz bass has made me realised I'm not a P guy after all. Pick up welcome (drop £50 off the list price). Delivery included in the price via Overland Express insured included in the price. Price assumes PP Gift or bank transfer or plus fees. Have feedback on here for bass sales and over on The Fretboard and eBay under the same username. Not looking for trades I’m afraid.2 points

For sale, GK 2x10 combo, a workhorse with a belting sound and lots of tone shaping. Tilt back design for better monitoring on stage and a lift up handle to roll away after the gig/rehearsal. A heavy amp but quality and oomph guaranteed. In 6/10 cosmetic condition but no scratchy pots or electrical issues to report. Collection or meet up preferred for the bulk reasons, can drive a reasonable distance for meet up. Cheers Craig.2 points

Cool interview with one of my heroes. Check out Jerry's answer to "how many guitars do you own, Jerry?" (44:09). Priceless 😁2 points

I saw the Neville Brothers live once, having been turned onto them by a Jools Holland program; they were marvellous.2 points

All the more reason to not use heating; very little of our cottage is heated, and even then, very little. The house is completely damp-free, however, being very well ventilated, with little or no real insulation, double-glazing etc. The doors are open much of the time, for most of the year. None of our instruments, amps or cabs suffer from condensation. So...... Don't over-heat (there's an economy to be had, there...) and have the doors and windows open often. Ventilation is the key, as long as there's no other ingress of water (from the ground wicking upwards...) or from above (leaking downwards...).2 points

I agree - second hand everytime at this price point - I'm desperately trying not to be a dick and buy this Elf cab and TC head - absolute bargain and very giggable if combined. Would wipe the floor compared to the three amps the OP mentioned!2 points

1961 Jazz that was previously owned by Pino, for sale at French vintage guitar and bass dealer. Great patina/ageing (as opposed to relic'ing!) But €29,500 seems one heck of a price to pay https://www.mattsguitar.shop/fr/guitares-stock/fender-jazz-bass-1961-ex-pino-palladino2 points

Every time I see this topic, I have to resist saying "seems like a reasonable swap if he's house-trained". Oh, did I actually type that?2 points

Yes, that was indeed one, in fact here is my band playing said salubrious establishment in 1987. I'm behind the keys player on the left, you can just see my left hand and the neck of my Wal, and the SH-09 I used for synth basslines. The stage was microscopic.2 points

Somewhere in Covent Garden springs to mind, was it called the Rock Garden? I remember in the late 80's our label at the time getting a promo mailout from them saying we could play in their actual central London șhïthole if we bought £35 worth of tickets and could guarantee a 150 punters on the night. I think the label replied but with the caveat that a champagne and 7 course meal rider would be provided otherwise the venue would have to pay them £5000 or something daft like that. Still waiting to hear back from them 🤔2 points

Just Eat. The uk has a thriving independent takeaway industry, call direct get a delivery, maybe a small charge. Then this uneeded middle man comes along and tries to stifle the industry and whack an admin fee for their unwanted service. People use it unbelievable.2 points

Similar vocal range . Throws the odd tantrum here and there ,and not as precious 🤔2 points

The only trouble I've encountered in years of gigging is the inappropriate physical contact - basically getting dry humped by some woman who thought it would be hilarious while her friend videoed it. HOW EFFIN' HILARIOUS (not). I could have done without it, personally. What can you do though? She's behind me. Can't bump her out of the way with my backside, don't want to give her any encouragement. I just tried to concentrate on what I was doing and hoped she'd get bored and eff off. Eventually, she did bog off when she didn't get a rise or reaction out of me but damn. So funny isn't it? Now what do you think would have happened if I had suddenly started grinding myself against a female performer? I'd be out on my ear within seconds, I reckon. But because it's the other way round, it's "funny" and I should be grateful for the attention, right? Well, no, it sucked and I'd rather it hadn't happened at all, thanks. I don't know what I could have done differently - compromise my musical performance to channel some brain power into my spacial awareness perhaps? Thankfully, it's a super rare occurrence.2 points

Been looking into Trevor castell also known as Trevor Junior, there’s some nice bass on his tracks which I’ve narrowed down to 3 players , Chris Meredith, Robbie Shakespeare and George Fully Fullwood, one of those artists that’s been around a long time but not overly well known, here’s a few nice version on this from around 1984 and from the rub a dub album2 points

Actually, that’s not a bad idea! I was once gifted a Lego ‘Dood’. I might add him to all of my sale posts too. (The likeness is uncanny 🤦🏻😂 )2 points
