This week I welcomed this absolute stunner to the stable! A 2016 PDN StingRay, key features of this one being the stunning Starry Night finish, roasted Birdseye Maple neck and an unmarked Ebony fingerboard, apparently the first run of 'Rays to not have inlays! I've wanted one of these since they were released, I grabbed a Charcoal Sparkle a couple of years ago but it just wasn't the same. It's a beauty, and transforms depending on what light is on it! HUGE thanks to Mick (@MM Stingray 62) for his patience with me over this, kept him waiting for two months whilst I scrambled the cash, all without a grumble. Cheers buddy!12 points

-SOLD- I am selling this magnificent '65 bass, L series. Making a description of the Jazz Bass seems repetitive and boring to me. You can draw your own conclusions from the photos. I add some details to complete the information. It weighs about 3,850 kg. It is not exact but it is very approximate. Everything is original and sounds like a '65 jazz bass should sound. The truss works correctly. The body has the normal bumps of a 60 year old bass. Very few if you look closely. The paint wear is very moderate. The truth is that the state of conservation is wonderful. It has another ding on the neck that is purely cosmetic. It's not noticeable when you're playing and you run your thumb over it. For this reason and for the normal wear and tear of the instrument, I propose a more interesting price than the '65 jazz basses offered on other platforms or stores. If you want an authentic bass at a more reasonable price and save money, this is your bass. Comes with an original vintage Fender logo case. 9200GBP / 11000 €7 points

Yes, this is me in 1971 with an original Danelectro Longhorn bass, with the wooden toggle switches. I would guess this would have been made about 1967. Not necessarily of massive value, but incredibly rare now.7 points

First pass at redoing my second board onto a PT Nano rather than a Nano+, tighter spacing, but I wanted the smaller footprint. The trickier 3 switches in the middle of the board (Tuner/Drive/Chorus) should be much more accessible with he addition of some Barefoot Button ‘Tallboy’ switch toppers (yet to arrive, the standard Mooer ones pictured). Corona Chorus and the 66 are getting swapped out in the next month or so, watch this space. All powered with a Cioks Sol smartly fixed in place with their clamp, very neat setup that! Went to Wunjo just for a browse, the bass guy said "please feel free to take anything off the rack and have a go". Even with this, I felt compelled to ask him if it was OK to try the 1958 Fender Precision bass they had - I was up front and said I wouldn't be a buyer but would love to give it a go, he said that was absolutely fine and told me a bit about the history. I gave it a play for 10 minutes or so, thanked him for being a gentleman and went about my day. Great service from Wunjo - even though I was there only to browse, I'm now probably going to look to them for sundries in the future purely because the guy was a gent and was happy to oblige a tyre kicker that admitted upfront about being a tyre kicker! Good show Wunjo. Good show. 👍6 points

Wow, just wow. I was looking for a Modulus Flea for a specific project, ended up buying a Jazz with graphite neck that was coming close but not quite, and then saw this. I owned one in the mid 2000s and it was a cracker, frankly this is even better. Still getting to grips with it, but there's something magical about the whole Stingray shape and orientation that really does help me do the Flea/RHCP thing 👍 And the board is so dark it could be ebony, on which basis a black pickguard is also going on at the earliest opportunity5 points

Oof Chris, that LPB Precision 😢 I’ve let go of far too many nice basses, though either to pay for my first flat, or for other of life’s demands, or just as they weren’t for me. Of all my (many) vintage Fenders (57-69), a beaten up 66 P is the only one i’d like back. I sold it for a lovely 64 P that then got sold to pay towards my first flat. But I wouldn’t pay today’s crazy money for that ‘66. I’d ’maybe’ go into debt to get back ‘79 Sabre that I sold to fund a 64 Jazz - great Jazz, but the Sabre was special and long term was the wrong move. But the main one I’d love back, and definitely hit the credit card on, is a Modulus FB4 - sold to @hiram.k.hackenbacker when we needed a new floor and couch and I got my priories completely wrong 😂 big mistake. Got another FB4 a few years later but it wasn’t the same.5 points

I couldn't resist it. I'll be going along to the Birmingham O2 Academy tonight to see the snappily titled Frank Carter and Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols. And I'll have a bloody good time too.5 points

I thought that every other post on marketplace was someone trying to sell a JMJ Mustang! 😂 But yes I'm keeping my shorties and playing s-s almost exclusively now. My 34" basses are feeling very sorry for themselves these days. I've just bought myself another Vox Starstream A1H! (directly from Vox, not from marketplace). I was strongly considering one of the new Sterling Stingrays with the roasted maple necks as a 'cheaper' s-s Stingray for taking to pubs and open mics, but they're £700 and at that level arguably overpriced. I noticed that Vox had some refurbished black Starstreams available for the same price. I reasoned if I'm going to spend £700 on a bass that sounds like a Stingray I may as well get something made in Japan with Aguilar electronics and Gotoh hardware. I love my red Starstream but it's almost irreplaceable now, I wouldn't want to risk taking it outside and damaging it. So I ordered a black one with the intention that if it gets knocked it won't bother me so much knowing my main red one is safe at home. This is the first time I've ever bought two of the same instrument. Surely that unlocks some kind of Basschat achievement? 😁5 points

Currently strung with TI Jazz Flats, which I think really work with this bass. Good condition - there are a couple of dinks to the back, as per the photos, and some very minor blemishes to the front (I think these are marks rather than dinks). The paint is also slightly chipped on the headstock. I've really enjoyed playing this for the last few months, but fundamentally I'm a P bass person, and I have my eye on something else. Collection only from near Ross-on-Wye, or willing to meet within a reasonable distance. Will be at the SW Bass Bash in October so that's another possibility. Sorry but I won't post. No case, and strap not included.4 points

Just a note of caution, and I think I’ve done a similar thread before….. Basically, when you buy used stuff, guitars, amps whatever…. never trust anyone . Check the item over, take your time, make sure it works, plug it in and try it, and just be sure that it is as advertised. I Say this, because a couple of months ago I bought an Ashdown ABM 500 head. I specifically asked the seller to test it and be sure that it was all good. I picked it up, he was a lovely chap, we talked about gear, life etc…. and I totally trusted him to be genuine. More fool me, because he was a lying t@#t. It was knackered I was told yesterday by Ashdown, who were just servicing it for me. Thankfully Dave Green worked his magic, and it’s now as good as new, after many new parts and some added expense. It’s the third item I’ve bought recently, where I discovered down the line that it was not as described by the seller. Often, people sell stuff, not because they’re just moving it on, but because there’s something wrong with it, and they’re going to hide that issue from you. My point, don’t trust anyone. At all. Thankfully BC has been a pretty safe place for buying and selling, as most (not all it must be said) of us are good people. Just be careful, that’s all.4 points

1996 with non original neck. Great fretless, lovely "mwah", currently strung with rounds, the board is good though as it's had chromes on most of the time. Has the very useful 3 way switch which gives you series/single coil/parallel pickup options. Would prefer collection, can meet up in Dorset/Devon/Somerset. Otherwise can be boxed if you arrange a courier. Cheers, Simon4 points

That's it for now, folks. All the pre digital photography are missing as well as some that I forgot to photograph like some 1964 Fender Precision Basses... Told ya!4 points

I must admit my preference in selling is people collect so I can demonstrate the item is working, likewise with buying I prefer a demo if at all possible. I’m not fussed with driving a few hours, makes for a day out and peace of mind.4 points

During my Musicman phase I owned a couple of these and (like another person above) shouldn’t have sold them. Actually preferred the sound of the Subs over my other 2 band and 3 band Rays. Only issue I had was their weight, both being quite chunky ( no body contours ) but that may have just me being unlucky. Never felt the need to mess with the EQ, the standard set up worked so well. I didn’t mind the painted neck either. All they needed was a different scratchplate and then were good to go. Like all MM stuff, their prices do seem to have rocketed, but still a great buy compared to a regular US Ray.4 points

Again, thanks for all the input, I found an Ampeg RB 108 that was bought new 2 months ago and only used a couple of times, indistinguishable from new for £90, so very happy with the result. 👍4 points

This gig was not a match for Maple Road. A jazz trio for background music would have been more appropriate. Nobody was interested in us.We played an 1.5 hour set then took an 1.5 hour break while the big $$ auction took place. We came back an played for another painful hour. On the plus side we strengthened our relationship with The Thelma Performing Arts Center and the "green room" was top notch. Daryl4 points

Going to keep it for now and lend it to a friend who's just starting out on bass. Fender Player in Capri Orange which is rather difficult to get hold of these days. Scratchplate, control knobs and pickup covers changed - originals included in sale. Schaller straplock buttons added, but don't have the bits that go on the strap. Bought from Fair Deal Music a little while ago, another mistaken Jazz adventure for me... I buy 'em, I sell 'em. One day I'll learn. Collection from Frome in Somerset with cash on collection. Not looking for any trades.3 points

Fender Flea Artist Series Roadworn Signature Jazz Bass, faded shell pink, comes with chrome covers (not fitted) and a basic gig bag. Factory roadworn in great condition. Would prefer it if you come and try it out (I am in Ipswich) but a meet up may be possible. I can now box this up if you wish to arrange your own courier.3 points

So I bought another short scale bass, because well look at it -woof yeah, but i'm tall and big and it just feels that tad small for me - and it would've been perfect for my old Americana band, but not for what I'm currently doing, it was a toss up between this and the Triad. My band all said oooh at rehearsal. The bass end you can get out of this is huge - i could feel it vibrating my legs at rehearsal, the drummer was very impressed - great for palm muting due to comfortable bridge, Macca stuff all day. Jamerson too. Not so good if you're a Jaco head (maybe if you had zingy rounds on it), which I'm not. But loads of old school mojo but modern touches - if this was 34 inch then it'd be perfect. Lightweight, with nice glassy neck, very very comfortable to play, zero frets sticking out, balances on a strap great. Noiseless pups, which are responsive with a great blend knob. Brand new La Bella LFTs on it - and the rounds it came with in bag. Comes with deluxe padded Fender bag - which is worth it for the carrying handle alone, very nice - will be getting another of these for next bass. Comes with case candy, inspection list, and all that good stuff. Really well made, well done Reverend - just tad too small for me - when you know, you know - so would like to put the money towards the periwinkle Triad that keeps taunting me. This will easily become their go to bass. Priced to sell. Pick up in Clitheroe or can meet up to an hours drive - or £20 for P&P to UK mainland - will be very well packaged3 points

Hi everybody. Here it is! I’ve owned this beauty since March 2021 having bought it from Basschatter Gilly. He got it from nord1 who had the gorgeous refinish and luminlay side dots added. It’s stock ( Made September 2010 HQP 063070 ) apart from that ( Perhaps the chrome knobs with numbers too ) it’s stock and does it’s BB powerful pickups versatile monster tone job tremendously with Vol, Tone , Pickup selector switch. The Tone control pot really has a big and full range of useful tones, unlike some. Nickel-Silver nut , strings through body are Rotosound RB45 105-45. Body refinish was expensive so you’re still getting a good deal and a unique bass that will be much admired and coveted. Capturing the precise Mintiness of the body isnt easy it seems but in the photos below the first one and the last two are the closest to the colour. We only live once and I would be selfish to have and to hold ( and play! ) this for any longer. The main reason for selling is that I got a BB614 with an active passive switch. A pity to lose this stunning finish but I need to thin the herd too, so watch out for other basses for sale soonish. (ESP LTD J-1004 up already as you might have seen. Open to offers.) Some of the photos are from previous owners. The white pearl guard didnt do it for me so I had a black one made by Tiny Tone. I’ll include the white one and a UV light torch I bought to power up the cool Luminlay side dots for your dark stage gigs. Hard case shown ( strap not included ). The pickup bobbins had lost their blackness so I’ve used indelible ink to revitalise them. ( Checked with my guitar tech first ).Lovely dark rosewood board on this. Well balanced and 10lbs 9oz , 4.8kg using my accurate digital scales for clarity. With my strap it feels fine. Good luck , don’t fight over it and let your Yamma mates know it’s up please. 👍 Cheers. Up for sale is my Pedulla Rapture RB4. From the serial number I believe this is a 1996 model, and as such it does have some dings in the body and a bit of wear and tear - I've tried to capture these in the photos but please let me know if you want any specific shots. Features a single Bartolini pick up with active electronics. Controls for volume, bass and treble (+ or – 15dB) and a mid toggle switch. This bass is nice and light and has a slim neck with a fast action, so easy to play. Also comes with the original hard case. Please note the bass looks teal in the photos but it's actually a bit more green looking in person. Only selling as I've barely played for years now and I've unfortunately been made redundant recently. I spent years and years trying to get this bass and that's why I've held onto it for so long, but this thing deserves to be played rather than hanging on a wall 'just incase'. Collection is preferred from Derby, but I'm happy to drive a reasonable distance to deliver/meet in the middle. Thanks.3 points

Today, I came across this nice long interview with Stuart and PJ. Great to see them again. They talk about their new line of acoustic guitars and basses (Esopus), but also about the history of the Spector brand, share some anecdotes (incl. skull shaped inlays made out of the bones of Tibetan monks!) and show some cool basses (including the March 77 prototype of the NS-1, the 75 SB-1 that preceded the NS-1 and the first NS 5 string (look at the pickups!). Cool stuff 👍 https://www.fugu.com/Pages/Players/VideoPlayerFull?enc=kGmw4xfyQX4VbI%2fOEJzlA%2flA1nLJbSTYiIQgXDtnwaE%3d3 points

These are absolute killer basses! I've got the A2S in black the build quality is faultless. I'll be likely to add an A1H to the collection if I see a used one. The Aguilar pickups are amazing.3 points

The SUB was easily one of the best value for money instruments ever made! I've owned two, still have one and I ADORE them. I wish i had never sold the first one but super lucky to have found my current one for a bargain price. Solid piece of kit that I cant fault. Hard working and hard-wearing, it's an easy choice for live work.3 points

We played an intimate acoustic set, mostly on two mandocellos last night in Old Town, Swindon. We supported Canute's Plastic Army who were both talented and very personable. Lots of peop!e came who had seen us before at Swindon Shuffle last year. I am 5 1/2 months alcohol free now and I think it was a strong contender for my personal favourite show of 2024.3 points

I had a reissue Rivoli. The classic British Invasion bass. It had a DiMarzio Model 1 pickup in place of the reissue Mudbucker. The Mudbucker apparently sounded awful. It had a big middy thump. It wasn’t one I played that much but I loved to look at it. Still miss it.2 points
