Just having a cuppa having made it home from my Thursday Bandeoke in Bristol. Chaotic drunken night but no knob-heads so that was good. Been playing my Epiphone Embassy lately. It's a hard bass to put down. Sits in the mix, light on the shoulder and easy on the hands.10 points

Latest (and last..?) Update : The Eagle Has Landed; I repeat, The Eagle Has Landed..! I drove over to a nearby bar to meet my 'mule', who handed over a very large cardboard box which, once unpacked at home, revealed my new (to me...) HB50 bass guitar, in a splendid, and very well padded, soft case/gig bag. It's as new, plus the improvements made by the Seller, and it certainly packs a punch when plugged into my Fender Bassman 50w valve amp. The whole journey has taken three months, with the splendid cooperation of BC members (you know who you are...), family and friends. My thanks to all involved; I'll post a couple of NBD photos once I sort out my camera and stuff. Yippee..!7 points

Evening all!! I used to be a regular around these parts with various incarnations of my enormous and underutilised synth/funk pedalboard. But I haven't played much and therefore haven't had a board in a few years.... but that changed today.7 points

Couple of days in, but man alive this cab is incredible! So much slam, punch, and the sound pressure this thing produces is incredible, I was actually quite shocked, it was like standing too close to a proper PA rig. The build quality is impeccable. It's a lightweight cab, but extremely solid, reassuringly so. I purposely left my amp set as I last used it at home with 2 x Barefaced One10s which had a combined load of 4 Ohms, the Monza on it's own, at 8 Ohms was so loud I had to turn it down. The Monza also reproduces the low B on my 6ers much more effectively, which i was really looking for. I don't mean to poo poo the One10s, they're great cabs, especially given the size and weight, but they're just too vintagey for me. The Monza definitely hits everything I was looking for, and then some I imagine. I hope to get out to jam soon, so I can test it at proper volumes, but I'm extremely confident it will deliver I should also add how great Stevie was to deal with, an absolute gent and clearly exceptionally talented! Hurtsfall played at The Chapel in Nottingham last night supporting Byronic Sex & Exile with Jan Doyle Band also. There was a decent turn-out for a Thursday night and a sizeable portion of the audience dancing during our set including some people who I didn't know from other bands or previous gigs. Sound on stage was probably the best that we've had at the venue. It's always difficult judging how much an audience is going to damp down the bounce back of the FoH speakers which has a tendency to change the on-stage mix from the one we have painstakingly set up at the soundcheck. This time the mix was reasonably similar to what we had set up earlier which definitely helped us produce a good performance. We played a lot better than we did on Saturday when we only had enough time to set up and play which is always a bit more nerve-wracking than it should be. It helped that none of the bands playing had drummers and only Byronic Sex & Exile were using backline which meant there was plenty of room on stage, still there were a couple of close calls when our singer nearly trod on the footswitch that controls our drums and second synth backing parts. I had to quickly move them out of the way in a suitable moment between songs. Sold CD copies of our new single, but unfortunately no T-shirts after I spent 2 evenings getting the new designs sorted and ready for sale. But overall it was a great gig. We have a break while we're working on recording our album and getting two new songs ready to perform, and will be back for our next gig on 5th November again at The Chapel when we will be opening for gothic icon Aurelio Voltaire. Apparently the show is nearly sold out so if anyone here is interested in going I suggest that you get tickets ASAP. Photos hopefully coming soon...7 points

Just in from a very enjoyable evening at the Harbour View Speakeasy in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. This is a very popular buskers type night with a featured player or band given 45 mins at the end to close out the night. I played tonight with our acoustic’ish trio doing a set of country & Americana tunes to an appreciative audience. Only my second gig entirely on EUB and i just about got away with it. Lovely to see a pub full of music lovers on a Thursday night.6 points

Latest iteration of my board. Gone are all the effects - I just don’t use them. This board is now purely about the tone, and covers my doubling gigs on EUB/fretless/acoustic/electric bass. The SushiboxFX Finally is really my secret sauce ‘always on’ pedal that just adds a lovely warmth in front of my amps and has a great FOH DI out. The TC Impulse loader is for my NS EUB and I am running the 3Sigma German bass and Czech bass impulses. Combined with the ninomute I’m getting a pretty convincing DB sound live.6 points

Up for sale is my gorgeous Atelier Z DAL 5 in natural finish with clear scratch plate and bell cover (the preamp is not attached to the clear bell cover so can be removed). Something has come up that has made me go into bass buying convulsions so to make up some of the shortfall, this has to go... plus the bass I'm after is similar in looks and style so I don't need two similar basses. If the bass I'm after goes I will be withdrawing this from sale. This is in amazing condition, no noticeable dings or marks and the neck is lovely - it's amazing to play and sounds great. When I got it it was a standard preamp with volume, blend, bass and treble. I have always liked a passive option so I upgraded the preamp to the Glockenklang 2 band preamp with passive tone control on the treble pot - this one: https://www.glockenklang.de/en/products/bass_systems/onboard_2-band.htm From the website: The GLOCKENKLANG 2-band onboard preamp is active/passive switchable (at the volume push/pull), has a balance-pot with no volume dip in center-position, a treble-pot with +/- 18 dB@18 KHz in active mode, acting as classical highcut in passive mode and a bass-pot with +/- 14 dB@40 Hz. Battery-connection is 9 / 18 volts. Due to the high performance electronic, in flat position of the eq you can hear no difference between active and passive mode! Comes with the Atelier branded soft case (between a gig bag and hard case) and I have also added Sadowsky style knobs as I thought they look a lot better than the Jazz style knobs. I will include the original knobs and pup cover in the sale. I don't have the old preamp I'm afraid. I know these come with an Atelier Z sticker on the scratch plate - I sourced a replacement from Danny at Bass Japan Direct which I will of course include as well. No trades I'm afraid as I need the cash for the new bass, I have a box and can organise postage with costs covered by the buyer. Will need insurance as I won't send it without. Will probably be £30-£40 to post. Will get some quotes on postage if there looks to be a sale. Hit me with any questions! Recently played as part of a scratch party band for the local cricket club end of season bash. It’s a bit of a collective of musicians and vocalists with some loose connection to the club (players, parents, wife’s etc). All very friendly and sociable. Two rehearsals only but came together nicely. The drummer was my neighbour who plays in loads of function bands. I had to play this one sitting down as I’m 4 weeks post pituitary surgery (don’t tell my doctor I played this!) and was feeling very fatigued by the end of it. It really made me concentrate on my playing rather than trying to “perform” if you know what I mean. Venue was Sandmartins, a local golf club function room, lovely acoustic, nicely dampened room, no shrill surfaces. Very welcoming and helpful staff, easy load in. Backline is owned/borrowed from club members and to my delight they have an Ashdown abm 4x10 and tc head to play through. Wonderful! Very fun hour set after the audience had got their awards (best bowler, batsman etc) and had been sufficiently lubricated at the bar. Mostly party stuff with a few band choices thrown in. I will survive, love shack, there is a light, summer of 69, easy, respect, lean on me etc. Singers great, audience appreciative, and a short trip home. Just what I needed actually! Music is a healer!4 points

Made in the legendary Matsumoku factory of Japan in 1984 this amazing bass features a stunning thru neck in maple with walnut stripes, rosewood fingerboard with snowflake inlays, Canadian ash body, brass nut and fully adjustable brass bridge, a plethora of tone options thanks to active/passive, dual sound, in phase/ out phase, series/parallel switches, 3 way pickup selector, and active and passive tone knobs. In excellent condition, especially for a 40 year old vintage bass, very minor wear to body, the neck is in beautiful condition and the electrics all work. Sadly selling this but I've got to stick to the one-in-one-out policy (bass corner getting a bit busy). Professionally set up, frets dressed and strung with LaBella Mustang flatwound strings (£65 alone). It plays very well, nice low/medium action and cleanly frets all the way up the neck and no sharp fret ends (thanks to aforementioned work I had done). Has great thump -sounds super in a live setting - and thanks to it's diminutive size it's easy on the back for long gigs. Includes Fender gig bag. Excellent condition apart from a teeny lacquer chip at the neck pocket (pictured with a 5p for scale). No trades thanks. I'd rather meet up Central belt between Edinburgh and Glasgow as I don't currently have a case in which to courier this. I'd never heard of Geordie Greep until a couple of weeks ago. He was the guitarist/frontman with a band called Black Midi. His first album has just been released, and it's the most interesting new material I've heard for a good while. Difficult to pick one track - (it's all on YouTube) - as each track is so different. Here's a track called 'Blues' which maybe gives you a taste. You'll have to watch it on YouTube as it has the dreaded f-word in the lyrics (just once, I think)3 points

@Richard R Thats such a generous offer. I'll certainly swap my two, almost but not quite feral, cats who are at this point in time doing their best to decimate the mice, rat, and bird population of the village. The cats have no fear of anything and so rabbits and pheasants are also their targets. Its such a joy when they try to bring in a butchered and half eaten rabbit through the cat flap. I have a strong stomach, but not that strong. The only reason there are no foxes is that every fox, as far as I know, has emigrated to the local towns and cities as it's easy food there and because my two ninja cats aren't there. The cats also smell really badly and love dribbling on you at 04:30 in the morning if they can get in the bedroom and the dog hasn't noticed them. The dog classes the bedroom as his turf and tries to chase them out. They also throw up anywhere they can, and their litter tray and the 100,000 acres of Yorkshire Dales literally outside the door,is ignored if they can find a corner of the house to poop in. The vet bills are enormous as well. So I accept your offer to swap cats. I'll be there in around 15 mins. Thanks Rob3 points

Hello, all. Here we have a Spector NS Pulse 5 in Cinder Red. Lovely bass, excellent condition (can't find a mark on it). I recently traded another bass for this and although it's superb, it doesn't really fit with my style of playing so I'm moving it on. So - swamp ash body, bolt on roasted maple neck, macassar ebony fingerboard, what's not to like?! It sounds immense & superb, able to cut through any mix. 35" scale so the low B is pretty tight. New strings fitted (Ernie Ball cobalts (45-100), with a D'Addario 120 B string, new battery. Pick up from Bath, or I'm often up in Hertfordshire & am willing to deliver anywhere between the two, and as I like driving I'll deliver within 100 miles of Bath for free. I won't post unless I have absolutely no option, & I won't send overseas.3 points -
The next Hurtsfall gig is on 5th November opening for the brilliant Aurelio Voltaire with Lesbian Bed Death also playing. Normally I'd post this up about a week before the gig, but we've been informed that there are only a small number of tickets left so if you would like to go to this you need to get them now. Should be a great gig although based on my experiences of previously sold out gigs at The Chapel getting the gear off the stage and into the dressing room after we have played will be challenging!3 points

Just wanted to share in case someone's on the fence about these. IMHO it sounds great, feels great and seems to have been a serious project for that unnameable B company. From first impressions: melurves its lush sound, great depth and quirkiness. Well-recommended! I went for the Blue Marvin variety, with the spring reverb that is often regarded as being of lesser quality than the digital reverb in the standard 2600, and I have to say I don't mind its noise and quirks; its sound brings me back 50 years, and of course I could always add another reverb. Edit: New (slightly) better pics added. Selling my 55-01 that I got on here a few months ago. It sounds and plays amazingly, and the low B is the best I've ever played. It's extremely versatile due to the John East pre, I've used it in a country rock band and a Pantera tribute band and it was equally at home in both. I just don't have much use for a 5 string at the moment. Weighs 4.1kg (9lbs), it's actually lighter than most of my 4 strings. Collection/meetup preferred, but I can look in to shipping at the buyers cost. I have a box and packaging.2 points -

Evidence of what please? From CBS ownership onwards, Fender ran a mass production line for all components including necks. Whoever finished the neck, there was no process that guaranteed the best necks were matched to the best of the other parts. There are good and bad examples from all eras, and I cannot believe basses with Sr Torres finished necks are significantly statistically better than others of the same period. Is there evidence of that I wonder?2 points

You'll be grand, but that low A might be a teeny tiny bit big. I use .60, .80, .107, .145 tuned AEAD on my 34" ESP Jazz. The low A is super-solid at that gauge but you are getting close to being able to tie ships to the dock with it 😀2 points

Thanks guys, I have just ordered a custom case from Swan Flight Cases. The trouble I was having was that a typical 'pedalboard' case wouldn't work as my dimensions were outside the minimum required. Instead I've gone for a hinged box which I can lift the board out of which will be perfect. It came to only £230 posted which I didn't think was half bad. It needed to be fairly wide and tall, but not very deep, to house this lot (obvs not the bass too) I'll update when it arrives, hopefully I measured properly 😃2 points

Thomann (non) update - they're still chewing it over and it's been passed over to their technical department for their 2c on the matter. I really hope I get to keep it now - wanna see what the LPB looks like with the dark fingerboard but daren't do the swap until this has all been resolved.2 points

Another vote for LFSys here. I've just replaced two Barefaced One10s with a single LFSys Monza, the 1x10 cab. It's only been a couple of days, but leaving all the settings as they were using the two One10s, the single Monza cab, at 8 ohms, was actually louder and had so much more punch. It's light but solidly built, impressively so. I always find the Barefaced stuff feels a little flimsy, although they are actually pretty darned solid. I imagine an LFSys Monaco would do the job perfectly!2 points

Latest version of my board, the Rodenberg LDP Deluxe I was using developed a fault so I'm waiting on a replacement under warrenty, stumbled on a EBS Valve Drive secondhand the other day so that it is in its place for now.2 points

It's a good job I like the number and enjoy playing a slightly funky bass line to it - my band is named... Mustang Sally! We kick off every gig with "Hi folks, great to be back here in the [insert name] Club, we're Mustang Sally, let's start the party with our theme tune!" Cheesy, yes, but we're guaranteed some dance floor action right from the get-go.2 points
