  1. Had three gigs with the acoustic duo this week. First was at the local pub in my village, which we do a couple of times a year. Despite advertising it well, not quite as many punters in as usual. It’s been Hull Fair week though, which is a big event around here so maybe some people were there instead. Anyway, the gig went okay with the bonus of home being only 2 mins away. Last night we played at a nice hotel just outside Scarborough. The event was for a 60th birthday and there were about 80 guests who unfortunately were spread out over 3 rooms, making it hard to connect with them collectively. We set up in a conservatory which ran alongside the bar and the dining areas, and just tried our best to entertain them. Didn’t help having a few kids running around , and even a couple of dogs too! Played all their requests, but had to concede defeat at really winning them over. Turned out many were doctors, who just wanted to talk shop I think. Finished by 10.15, quick pack down and home by 11.30pm. Complete contrast today though - a return to The Sun Inn in Beverley. Arrived at 4.30pm and by the time we’d set up the PA it was full of punters all out for a good time. Inundated with requests, notable ones being ‘Crazy horses’ , ‘Dead flowers’ and ‘Babylon’. Had to skip some stuff by Eminem and Beastie Boys for obvious reasons, but overall a cracking afternoon/ early evening session to a rammed pub. Next visit there is December 22nd when as well as our usual request format we are asking a few local singers to come in and maybe do a few festive classics with us. Got four lined up already, and Paul the landlord is also keen too so should be great fun. (No pics taken today but the pub is opposite Beverley Minster which looked incredible tonight.)

  2. The Sunday 4-7 Maple Road gig at The Baaree turned out pretty good. Decent size engaged crowd, low stage volume and we were good. Not much for pictures. Check out the guidelines for bands. I'd say it's pretty fair. Daryl

  3. Added the new (to me) Longsword v2 and absolutely love it 🔥🔥🔥 The Model Fet and the Longsword are such a good pairing. The Halberd gets used to adding some clank to guitar when needed. Lots of switches and settings to play around with.

  4. A little late, but we played a multi-band gig at Legends in Edinburgh on Saturday for a fundraiser for Gazan families. Great atmos and a seriously pumped crowd. My friendly and approachable stage persona was in full swing.

  5. We had an afternoon gig that kind of turned into an early evening gig. The last spot went in a flash, but was actually over an hour and a half. It's a great pub and sounded fantastic. The landlord has spent a lot of time and effort setting up a proper stage, and it really makes a difference. It was a little disturbing to hear that they only had 19 people in on Friday though. That sort of thing makes it really hard to keep putting on bands 3 times a week. Luckily we managed to draw a decent crowd, so played for a bit longer than we normally would (to keep them spending over the bar - that's what it's all about) At the end of the gig it took me about 20 minutes to make my way to the back of the pub to where the loos are, because it seemed that everyone wanted to stop and talk about how great it sounded, how well we played, etc. It's not easy to tear yourself away even with a full bladder when you're being showered with compliments 😁. Anyway it continued while we packed up meaning that we took ages. We have next weekend off, but are going to have an "extraordinary general rehearsal" next week (we very rarely rehearse) to polish up a few songs for the Donkey the week after - probably our last there ☹️

  6. Played a 60th Birthday Party at the Shooters Arms in Burnley last night. Rammed. Debuted my new (to me) 69 Precision Bass. Sounded perfect in some of the Jam / Clash numbers we play 👍

  7. Serial 009474 so likely date of manufacture 1978/9? 40mm at nut, 20 frets, 4kg, spring spacing 19mm. Strung with heavy flats. A number of dings, the worst of which (by far) is indicated. The light blue is a reflection! All original. All in working order including the truss rod. Very little fret wear. The neck is in super condition although there are a few marks on the headstock. Unbelievable neck on these, as others on this forum have said. No case pick only. No trades.

  8. I am bloody buzzing still after last night's gig - what a difference compared to Friday night's debacle. Played with Nine Lives at Wilsons in Aberdeen. Where to start? There were people there for a start, a decent crowd and they were up for a good night out. Loads of dancers, some decent singalongs, hearty chants of "ANGUS!" during the intro to "Whole Lotta Rosie", you could say this gig had it all. Even the ar$ehole who got thrown out by the bouncer couldn't dampen my spirits. He was a total weapons grade idiot - came up to the singer and grabbed the mic to shout out to his mates - I mean it's never funny but OK, do it once, have your fun then p!ss off, but he got drunker and drunker and ended up doing it three times. The third time, I stepped in and rapped his knuckles to try and get his hand off the mic, then as he relinquished his grip and stepped back he stepped on one of the guitarists pedals, to which the guitarist obviously objected, to which the guy started to square up to the guitarist, but by that time the bouncer was there and got him out of there. Of course, the knobber fought against his removal and ended up brawling with the bouncer, knocking over an older lady in the process. We had to stop the music while she was checked over. Being wireless, I went over and enquired as to her wellbeing. I heard she ended up with a lump on her head, they got some ice on it but apparently she said she'd rather just have more alcohol. What a trooper! Anyhoo, doofus ejected from the pub, we continued the gig, and it went great right up to the end. I got up to no good being wireless and went for a walkabout round the whole pub Fantastic night, despite someone's worst efforts to spoil it, and it's like Friday night never happened. Now for a well deserved weekend off next week, then another Fri/Sat the weekend after. Rock 'n' roll! It was Sire night on the gear front - played my D5 then my Z7 into the usual Markbass tone cubes.

  12. If you like the neck, put together a bass around it rather than get a completely different bass which might not have as nice a neck. Here is my bass. The neck is lovely to play and is from a Classic Vibe Late 60s jazz. The body is from a Vintage Modified PJ; it's agathis and is particularly light. With Hipshot Ultralites the complete bass is 3.1kg and balances fine.

  13. Nice function for Pop Rock Riot last night, playing in The Exchange in North Shields. Knowing it was a good-looking venue I borrowed some camera stuff from work and I've now got 431GB of footage to go through for our next showreel. Joy! 🫣 The setup: The filming: (not as fuzzy as it looks, these are screen captures of the video payback not proper exported stills but it's Sunday and I'm lazy)

  14. A pretty good night last night. Drummer back from hols but one guitarist down however the other guitarist and I have worked for years as me him, drummer and a vocalist so really not a problem. Using a different sound guy, who works with our usual guy, and the usual PA but despite him having checked all the connections during the week nothing he did would connect his iPad to the mixer, I had forgotten my iPad, but the connection from my phone was intermittent so in the end he brought his XAir in and re plugged everything from the usual one and we managed a quick last minute soundcheck but without my IEM connected, so I had to tweak that on the fly in the set. Still non weight bearing on my ankle and using the iWalk to stand - let’s gloss over the fact that earlier in the day walking through the village I got overconfident, stubbed the ‘toe’ and with nothing to grab onto and unable to do the ‘skip, yes I meant to do that’ thing when you catch your foot, and went down in a heap (I’ve not admitted that to wifey as I’d never hear the end of it). It’s fine for gigging, though does mean I can’t really move about and the opposite foot has gone to sleep by the end of each set. First set went pretty well. A few flubs from everyone, particularly the drummer who dropped a couple of beats but we caught it and I doubt anyone in the audience noticed. Crowd were ok and singing along so that was good. Second set everything gelled much better, the sound felt better and the punters got into it and were singing and dancing so it ended as a stormer. Landlady well pleased and stuck a load in the diary for next year.

  17. We played a lovely little venue in Leeds last night. Crank Studios - it’s kind of a music school with a venue/bar. The whole venture is great - set up by a pair of musicians, they do music lessons and dance classes, and even a ‘rock school’ where a cohort of kids between 6-16 get out into bands and after twelve weeks they do a gig. I think that’s amazing and if I lived nearer I’d love to support that. We played as part of a ‘showcase’ to help promote the new venue and only had 30 mins, and a 7 piece band in a small area - but we had fun and the sound was OK. I bought my full rig but ended up only using the 2x10 because I felt a bit silly having the 15 as well. I wish I did though just to raise the 2x10 because it was pointing at my ankles but it sounded good out front. I don’t think I played particularly well, partly because I couldn’t hear myself that well, but nobody noticed and we had some great feedback after our brief set. Next gig is in 2 weeks at ‘platform 1’ in Bedlington, looks like a good venue and we are headlining so we can do our full set. Pics of sound check - we had an audience of about 30, place was pretty full, which was nice. So a small but fun and relatively local gig. Mustang sounded spot on again. Got home quite early and had three Crunch Corner yogs.

I shall book the fortnight before off work and spend it in isolation to avoid catching lurgis, getting hit by a bus, or anything else that would possibly prevent me from getting there. I shall also persuade my better half that we should move to the village so I can walk to the bash in case of roadworks on the M6.

  24. Up for sale is my gorgeous Atelier Z DAL 5 in natural finish with clear scratch plate and bell cover (the preamp is not attached to the clear bell cover so can be removed). Something has come up that has made me go into bass buying convulsions so to make up some of the shortfall, this has to go... plus the bass I'm after is similar in looks and style so I don't need two similar basses. If the bass I'm after goes I will be withdrawing this from sale. This is in amazing condition, no noticeable dings or marks and the neck is lovely - it's amazing to play and sounds great. When I got it it was a standard preamp with volume, blend, bass and treble. I have always liked a passive option so I upgraded the preamp to the Glockenklang 2 band preamp with passive tone control on the treble pot - this one: https://www.glockenklang.de/en/products/bass_systems/onboard_2-band.htm From the website: The GLOCKENKLANG 2-band onboard preamp is active/passive switchable (at the volume push/pull), has a balance-pot with no volume dip in center-position, a treble-pot with +/- 18 dB@18 KHz in active mode, acting as classical highcut in passive mode and a bass-pot with +/- 14 dB@40 Hz. Battery-connection is 9 / 18 volts. Due to the high performance electronic, in flat position of the eq you can hear no difference between active and passive mode! Comes with the Atelier branded soft case (between a gig bag and hard case) and I have also added Sadowsky style knobs as I thought they look a lot better than the Jazz style knobs. I will include the original knobs and pup cover in the sale. I don't have the old preamp I'm afraid. I know these come with an Atelier Z sticker on the scratch plate - I sourced a replacement from Danny at Bass Japan Direct which I will of course include as well. No trades I'm afraid as I need the cash for the new bass, I have a box and can organise postage with costs covered by the buyer. Will need insurance as I won't send it without. Will probably be £30-£40 to post. Will get some quotes on postage if there looks to be a sale. Hit me with any questions! I got this from Bass Direct and have included their original pictures.

  26. Lovely Sterling Musicman Ray35 in very good condition. Beautiful quilted top and roasted maple neck. Has been gigged and has minor signs of use - the worst of which are two minor dinks on the back (pictured). Comes with its original padded gig bag. The roasted maple neck feels great and to be honest, I sold a stingray special a while back and I would be hard pressed to tell any massive differences! Certainly not £1ks worth when you look at second hand values. I'm sure I will start a barrage of Stingray lovers spewing some hate here, but that's my opinion! frankly, a while back I was firmly in their camp... now, I'm not so sure of the value of premium basses like Stingrays when you compare them to their far eastern counterparts. I think the quality of these far east instruments has sky rocketed over the years. I got this a while back on here and to be honest, I'm not using it very much and a new kitchen and home extension means I need to recoup some funds. Its a great bass, I just find myself picking up my Sadowsky and nowt else gets a look in! Currently sporting a clear scratch plate, which I had made as it shows off the lovely top, plus the control PCB on display looks pretty cool as well. I have included a picture of it with the original black one which I will include in the sale so the buyer can make up their own mind. Will included postage in the asking price, any haggling will incur postage costs, collection obviously welcome! Any questions, please do get in touch!

  32. Great sold out home town gig at the Capitol theatre in Horsham tonight ( ok last night now🤣) with the Phil Collins tribute. My set up really inspires my confidence, my trusty Wal, Tecamp puma 900 and and the fabulous LFsys monza cab, an amazing little monitor. Thought we may be a bit rusty as it’s been a while since the last one but pleased to say everyone was’on it ‘ an the audience were amazing! We collect money for a homeless charity by selling t shirts etc. we don’t put a price on things, we just ask people to give what they feel is manageable for them and tonight we collected over a £1000 for the bridge house trust, based in Tunbridge wells. Peoples generosity is very humbling sometimes x

  33. Rather torn about this and certainly not overly keen to sell, but I bought it recently to do a better job than a Status Jazz in an RHCP project but I think I prefer the Jazz. I'm selling for slightly less than I paid, c'est la vie. Trade-wise I'd like a decently large amp, Boogie, Ampeg, WHYG? This has a forearm contour that I assume is a modification (as opposed to factory), but as you can see, has been very well done. I can get to London or most of SE (or beyond) for a handover, I'd really prefer not to post, especially for we're doing a trade. More details here

  39. Okay, now YES. The bass should have been exchanged on Friday but of course it didn't happen - delay on DPD or Andertons, I don't know anymore. Either way, I've just taken delivery of the new unit and swap. HAPPY. This bass is what it's meant to be, and coming in at 4.15kg. Well adjusted right out of the box and loving it. Will still swap the knobs mind you (that shaft cover in plastic where the aluminium knob seats is a kinda whacky design I feel). Interestingly, this box did come with a stamp and a card for the checks done - kinda generic but all works: I'm removing the cling film protectors, I'm keeping this! Ander.

  46. Much posher pub (well, we were in South Manchester, dahlink) last night, although another where the band seem to be pretty much surplus to requirements (seating/tables all over, no-one standing - it's clearly a big food pub during the day/early evening), and applauding might be seen as a bit passe...half a dozen ladies got up to dance in the second set, tho, and we got a woman whose 60th was being held there (sparkly dress, big sash, balloons, etc) jump on a mic...and blew us away with one of the best voices I've heard in a while. I surrendered my mic to her, and she did a couple of numbers (Good Times and Proud Mary), which made a very pleasant change from the usual Give Us A Go pish heads...oh, and she knew when to stop, too, voluntarily putting the mic back and buggering off while she was ahead...again, making a pleasant change. Oh, and one Karen type walked up to me mid song demanding something or other - I pointed at my inears (the fact that we were mid-song had apparently eluded her, too) and shrugged several times, she just persisted in that Talking Louder And Louder To Foreigners Means They'll Suddenly Understand You way. She then strode into the band space (always disconcerting when that happens, no?) and walked up behind(!) the singer to repeat her request/demands...for Oasis. Luv, we're in Timperley, it's not like we weren't going to play any...in fact we'd already done one in the first set before she arrived. We should've charged her £50...no, £75...actually it's now £125... Normal hours for once, home for oneish. Cheapo light Sonic P, Stomp, inears. Bliss.

  47. Just got in from a great gig at Moor Brewery in Bristol. I've had to run home after our set because my daughter has chickenpox so there is no guarantee that I'll get much sleep tonight. Strange but cool venue. It's literally in the warehouse. There are tanks brewing things next to where you play. The sound guy also just wanted the amps to do the work in the room, so we got to turn up LOUD 😬 But, it was the most engaged crowd of the night (so far). Lots of people headbanging, which is great. A mate said lots of people were pointing at my Dingwall too. I think we're really honing in on our live sound now after 8 or so gigs. Love, love, love the Digbeth too. It was an 8Ohm cab, so I was putting half power into it, but I still filled the space at about 6/7 on the volume controls. Didn't manage to get a pic of the stage, but I was playing my Combustion into my pedalboard, then Digbeth head and another band's Matamp 610. We've curated a night there for December, and I'm really looking forward to it now!

  48. Pile o' sh!te last night. Played with Nine Lives last night at the Balaclava in Fraserburgh. First half was dire - about 10 folk in the bar and absolutely none of them gave a flying f hole if we were there or not - in fact they would have prefered we weren't there as they got one of the bar staff to come over and tell us that we were a bit loud and they couldn't talk at the bar - cheeky bar stewards! I was quite hacked off by that, angry enough that at half time I postulated to the rest of the band that we offer to end it now and take half pay. The drummer sorta half agreed with me but the other two wanted to carry on and see if things improve. Thankfully, some extra folk came in during the break who were actually up for a boogie and improved things immeasurably and I ended up having an OK night, but it was very much a case of the second half cancelling out the first. Hey ho, got paid, packed up, went home. Gear - Squier Affinity Jaguar H then Yamaha BB1200 into the usual Markbass tone cubes.
