  1. Deadlight Dance did a quick turn at one of the local open mic nights, as we have been a bit light on bookings. We played two off of our new EP, one of the singles off of the debut album and ended on Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. I got a genuine laugh for describing us as "Wiltshire's darkest boy band". The low point was a very drunken lady congratulating me on my Halloween costume that I had to explain was actually just how I look. A good standard of acts last night and we are both experienced enough to pay the other acts the courtesy of watching and supporting them.

  2. A little late, but we played a multi-band gig at Legends in Edinburgh on Saturday for a fundraiser for Gazan families. Great atmos and a seriously pumped crowd. My friendly and approachable stage persona was in full swing.

  3. Phew. After all that, I'd let Innovation at least have the rest of the afternoon off.

  4. After a long time of wanting a BB, I've finally joined the club with a BBP34. I've tried a couple of 734s and enjoyed them, but have been waiting for a used P34 to come up the right price. Glad I waited.

  5. Aye, they had actually started to leave, but it took them the length of your set to make it to the door...

  6. I've had some decent board set ups in my time, but I think this is the one 👌 eventually a small midi controller will be added to the C4 as I like an envelope filter but my 6 presets are filled with dancy synths. Replaced the Bass Zio with a Tone Hammer. I feel late to the party with this one but I think there's a reason they've not changed it in 15 years, what a sound! Briefly had an IK ToneX one infront of the aforementioned Bass Zio, but gravitated to the Tone Hammer captures so thought "Why not just get a Tone Hammer?" (Side note, the ToneX One is a scary good piece of kit, AI frightens me). Also put the Sovtek Deluxe back on as I just love it, and the one patch I was using on the Ultrawave is easily approximated on the C4. I'll likely keep the Ultrawave all the same just for the poor resale on them - cracking bit of kit that will likely come in handy somewhere down the line. Brilliant utility pedal, that seems vastly misunderstood - most likely due to all of the sponsored reviews leaning on the crazy trem stuff... anyway, I digress.

  7. £525 The much sought after Japanese FujGen factory era sting ray killer. The three position switch when to the right is the stingray tone, in the middle a jazz bass, and to the left you get the P bass clank. The condition of the bass is MINT. The electronics are all original and there is no crackles, no buzz, it all works perfectly. The frets have no wear - it almost looks unplayed. Truss rod moves freely and smoothly. The fret inlays are just stickers that can be removed. This is NOT a light bass with a typical Ibanez neck, it’s probably about 4.2kg with a chunky P neck. It will come with a hardcase. It is currently set up in drop C. Impossible to find in this colour, let alone in this condition. I had to import it when I bought it. Already having sellers regret so don’t be disappointed if this advert disappears.

  8. Lovely Sterling Musicman Ray35 in very good condition. Beautiful quilted top and roasted maple neck. Has been gigged and has minor signs of use - the worst of which are two minor dinks on the back (pictured). Comes with its original padded gig bag. The roasted maple neck feels great and to be honest, I sold a stingray special a while back and I would be hard pressed to tell any massive differences! Certainly not £1ks worth when you look at second hand values. I'm sure I will start a barrage of Stingray lovers spewing some hate here, but that's my opinion! frankly, a while back I was firmly in their camp... now, I'm not so sure of the value of premium basses like Stingrays when you compare them to their far eastern counterparts. I think the quality of these far east instruments has sky rocketed over the years. I got this a while back on here and to be honest, I'm not using it very much and a new kitchen and home extension means I need to recoup some funds. Its a great bass, I just find myself picking up my Sadowsky and nowt else gets a look in! Currently sporting a clear scratch plate, which I had made as it shows off the lovely top, plus the control PCB on display looks pretty cool as well. I have included a picture of it with the original black one which I will include in the sale so the buyer can make up their own mind. Will included postage in the asking price, any haggling will incur postage costs, collection obviously welcome! Any questions, please do get in touch!

  9. I reached out to the Spector about this and it is a USA built prototype that he has been playing alongside several Euro CST and Classic basses. They are expecting this to be a Euro or Korea Spector in the end. Watch this space I guess? :)

  11. The Bonzo Bills Band (a confection of The BonzoDog Band, Three Bonzos and a Piano and the Bill Posters Will Be Band) were playing at CryerArts Theatre near me in Carshalton in South London on Sunday evening. It's been a while since I've seen any of the Bonzos perform, so a seat was secured in the front row and I was not disappointed God knows where Roger Ruskin Spear gets his energy, channelling Sally Bowles perched on the back of a chair, wearing heels; he's 81 now!

  12. Just gotta say, someone (not me!) dropped my 800 and damaged the volume pot. I emailed Pat Quilter to buy a new pot and he sent me a replacement pot free of charge. I live in New Zealand and he sent it priority! Customer service... top notch!

  13. Rather torn about this and certainly not overly keen to sell, but I bought it recently to do a better job than a Status Jazz in an RHCP project but I think I prefer the Jazz. I'm selling for slightly less than I paid, c'est la vie. Trade-wise I'd like a decently large amp, Boogie, Ampeg, WHYG? This has a forearm contour that I assume is a modification (as opposed to factory), but as you can see, has been very well done. I can get to London or most of SE (or beyond) for a handover, I'd really prefer not to post, especially for we're doing a trade. More details here

  14. Not last night - Saturday weird one - but got to see @Dankology and his ace band Dead Tenant We had a mix of our punters and some of the regulars of the venue… We got paid, played well…bit of a weirdness with the venue owner (put it this way, we got a 3 text apology) but not bad.

  19. Thanks John, though I don't think anyone wants to live through that again I think we need a bass filter though, the bass is definitely too far forward in the mix 🤣🎵😂

  27. Moving the cable may reveal if it is defect. Zero resistance is doable with a single strain, therefore the reading is not telling you anything else than that some part of the cable or the connectors are making contact. 300 W through a defective cable may ruin your amp. I think a new cable wouldn't be a mission impossible. You can use a 9 V battery to try the cab (and find its phase). Other than that you should open the cab and check if all cables are firmly attached.

  30. No need, ever, for a sub with an acoustic kit. For an e-kit, I use 'sport' earphones, which are lightweight and allow all ambient sound (they're not really 'in ears'...), so I get the full benefit of my drums, mixed how I like it, whatever the FOH or Monitoring for the band, whilst still hearing what's going on on stage from the foldback monitors and backline amps.. This solution works in every case, whether practicing alone, rehearsing, in a pub or a stadium, and it costs next to nothing. I take the feed from my Tascam audio interface (two headphone sockets...) which send the audio from my Superior Drummer laptop to FOH and foldback. It would work in exactly the same manner if I was using only the e-drum 'brain' for the sound, as they all have an independent headphone 'out'. Here's the type of headset I use; no issues hearing bass drum, snare, hi-hat... whatever... Much lighter, better, controlled sound, and less messing about than any 'sub' solution, if it's only for the drummer.

  34. Having played @spyder's Serek Midwestern 5 with Newtone strings at the weekend, I'm very excited to get them. They were lovely on that bass - as was the bass itself. Might need to get a set of the shorties for my Mustang.

  35. Actually, I have had those too. I've found in the doom scene, bands seem to be nicer than they were in the post-rock scene from that perspective. Might be the high (pun intended) number of stoners the genre attracts?

  37. We did similar, doing a few numbers at Bargoed folk club - the high points being my partner, usually our band's percussionist, singing lead vocal on "Help Me Make it through the Night", and (having forgotten my treble recorder) me playing a bit of John Playford melody on octave mandolin.

  41. Okay, now YES. The bass should have been exchanged on Friday but of course it didn't happen - delay on DPD or Andertons, I don't know anymore. Either way, I've just taken delivery of the new unit and swap. HAPPY. This bass is what it's meant to be, and coming in at 4.15kg. Well adjusted right out of the box and loving it. Will still swap the knobs mind you (that shaft cover in plastic where the aluminium knob seats is a kinda whacky design I feel). Interestingly, this box did come with a stamp and a card for the checks done - kinda generic but all works: I'm removing the cling film protectors, I'm keeping this! Ander.

  42. (Un😉)surprisingly @AndyTravis didn't hang on to the Marathon long so it now resides with me, keeping it's younger nephew, the Eastwood, company. These Marathons really are fantastic basses. I've put 55-110 D'Addario NYXLs on and it is sooooo punchy. It really cuts through. 😎 Most of the pictures in this thread have been lost so it would be great to see any members Shergolds, or Haymans again.

  44. We played a lovely little venue in Leeds last night. Crank Studios - it’s kind of a music school with a venue/bar. The whole venture is great - set up by a pair of musicians, they do music lessons and dance classes, and even a ‘rock school’ where a cohort of kids between 6-16 get out into bands and after twelve weeks they do a gig. I think that’s amazing and if I lived nearer I’d love to support that. We played as part of a ‘showcase’ to help promote the new venue and only had 30 mins, and a 7 piece band in a small area - but we had fun and the sound was OK. I bought my full rig but ended up only using the 2x10 because I felt a bit silly having the 15 as well. I wish I did though just to raise the 2x10 because it was pointing at my ankles but it sounded good out front. I don’t think I played particularly well, partly because I couldn’t hear myself that well, but nobody noticed and we had some great feedback after our brief set. Next gig is in 2 weeks at ‘platform 1’ in Bedlington, looks like a good venue and we are headlining so we can do our full set. Pics of sound check - we had an audience of about 30, place was pretty full, which was nice. So a small but fun and relatively local gig. Mustang sounded spot on again. Got home quite early and had three Crunch Corner yogs.

  45. Undoubtedly i would expect it to be better, but I have used the x18 at many hundreds of gigs over the last 7 years, its been thrown around, stood on, had drinks drop on it and been yanked around by its cables, and in that time hasn't missed a beat once, so I trust it. If I had nothing now I would probably get the CQ18, but there is nothing that I would really gain from it at the moment, and who needs better mic preamps when your singer sounds muffled at source!
