I've been playing with alternatives to Barefoot Buttons for my pedalboard and have this design which I shamelessly stole off Thingiverse. These work really well, they are plastic rather than metal and fit 10mm foot switches. They do not fit the smaller foot switches yet, e.g. my own Mod Dwarf, but I'll adapt the design when I have time. These are in sparkly blue as thats whats on both my printers at the moment. but I can do red, black, white, Prusa Orange (thats the orange you see on Prusa printers), yellow and any other colour that I have lying around. I'll do these for a £1 each, you tell me the colours and I'll pay the cheap postage in the UK, you simply make a donation to this fund for Iris. So if you want 10, make a £10 donation and let me know and I'll print them up and send them to you. Any special requirements drop me a message and I'll see what I can do.17 points

After getting no response from people selling a Sadowsky Metro and lovely 1984 Tokai Sound, I spotted a MIM Fender Player II which I don't think has been played, its still got the cellophane on the pickups, tuners, pickguard and control plate and its £250 less than rrp sp I bought it.13 points

Bendricks Rock played the Railway in Llandaff last night. Quite a compact space! I left the setlists on my printer plus we had to add in several songs to compensate for an 8:30 start. This meant some conferring between songs which affected the flow a bit, plus a couple of false starts (no the guitar starts paranoid not the drums...) We had a modest but highly appreciative audience and went down well. Manager very pleased and we got booked again for next year, but outside in the summer. Plus the owner got in touch and has asked us to play a bigger venue he's opening in the valleys where our rock set should go down well.12 points

due to not having done a gig for two years now - and having no inlination to do any - I guess I can say I'm retired from gigs now so, it's time to let go of a few of my basses. also for sale on this site are: Rickenbacker fireglo 4001 bass - 1980 Chowny SWB-1 short scale bass Markbass tube headMarkbass transporter 2x10. I bought this in 2012 and it's done hunbdreds of gigs and recordings. if you are looking for a 'showroom quality finish' bass...stop here. 1989 stingray. 4 string, 4 bolt neck, 3 band eq, older style bridge with mutes (minus foam) A Superb bass but has a couple of modifications. At first when shipped from the factory the bass was fretless. the fretless board has been replaced with a birdseye maple flamed one by Martin Peterson at the Gallery in London and the workmanship is flawless as you would expect. The neck is visually stunning both front and rear. The body has been refinished. The bass previously was trans red. The bass has been refinished in white however this has not been done professionally but looks well. Sound wise, that big fat stingray tone is there. Plentry of growl. £1595 in ABS case prefer pick up or meet up but can ship, at buyer's expense, in case and I have a box. cab be tried out with my MB rig (unless it sells first) Any questions please ask. The bass is all original aside from the fretboard, finish and pickguard but the workmanship is superb. The finish is far from perfect but the bass sounds, feels and plays awesome.10 points

Yeah… I had a reluctant NBD some months ago as I bought a Sire P5 for an upcoming tour… I had never played a 5 string before so I bought the Sire to get my shit together. I went cheap because : A. I wasn’t sure I’d want to play one after (used to be stupidly anti-5-string for reason’s i now cannot comprehend) and B. wasn’t sure the tracks from the album that were played on 5 string would be in the setlist... So here we are, 6/7 months later… I’ve been playing the 5 string tracks on the tour and I love playing 5 string. Makes total sense to me. Sold my Sire P5 to a friend that was on the market for a good deal and found myself in a beautiful setting at Bass Budda in Aarhus, Denmark yesterday trying all the 5 strings. I can’t recommend visiting Morten at Bass Budda enough if you’re ever there. My most enjoyable bass shopping experience ever! Here’s my new axe then. So happy with it, it’s high end, particular, gorgeous, rowdy, light and full of character. We’ve been getting on like a house on fire, all night long A couple of short clips here if you’re interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT7jqRgalYI&list=PLP9ULvzEKH65apzKw4jibInwHdlbLjF7i9 points

We organised Islamabad's biggest (and only!) open air music festival this weekend. Actually a very modest affair, I got 5 bands to play (there's only 6 bands here!), food vendors and fireworks although we couldn't do a bonfire as the pollution is so bad at the moment we were told we couldn't add to it. We held it on our football pitch and sold 300 tickets, for here not a bad turn out. Plus we put out bouncy castles and stuff for the kids, so quite chilled out. I'm in three of the bands, only hiccup was our punk band had to drop out at the very minute as our guitarist ended up in hospital with an IV for fluids... a bad case of 'pak-attack' that left him dangerously dehydrated. The Hendrix band went down particularly well as did our soul-blues band, had loads of fun playing those sets. Finished off the night with a band that uses backing tracks and plays all the disco hits. A great way to finish the evening with plenty of dancing and went for two and half hours straight. They're real pros, they get the audience going and keeping the energy there.9 points

Updated my mini board already having built it about two weeks ago and haven't taken it anywhere ... Couldn't resist grabbing the cog hellraiser so will now see what this is like at volume over the next few weeks. Bedroom levels it sounds wicked. The cog is a monster of a pedal ✌️9 points

Shakespeare North with the Mighty Wah last night - spectacular venue, lovely staff, amazing audience and we (primed by a run of support slots) played a blinder. Eldest daughter brought her German exchange partner with her - Christ knows what she made of it all. I had a bit of revelation re my always reticent bvs - whack the monitor volume up an just go for it seems to be the way forward. I used the lovely Jap P bass I bought through here a couple of months back and rather than doing my usual swapping between pick and fingers depending on the song, just used a plectrum throughout. I expect my tone was admirably consistent but I've inflicted a couple of areas of bass burn on my right hand in the process. I only want to do gigs in posh theatres from now on.6 points

due to not having done a gig for two years now - and having no inlination to do any - I guess I can say I'm retired from gigs now so, it's time to let go of a few of my basses. also for sale on this site are: Musicm`n Stingray 1989 Chowny SWB-1 short scale bass Markbass tube head Markbass transporter 2x10. 1980 Rickenbacker 4001 Fireglo. All original, except for a couple of the screws/washers for the machine heads Near mint condition for a 44 year old bass. Currently strung with round wound strings but can supply the flats that came with it too. Selling because am not planning to do any more live gigs. Hard Case is slightly tatty but closes fine, no key. Some tarnishing on the tuner heads and a bit of rust on the input jack but all other metal parts are pristine. Serial number TK4667 dates it to November 1980. Neck is straight, action is great Everything works as it should, including the Rick-o-Sound stereo outputs. I'm not desperate to sell quickly, but will negotiate if you have a very close offer in mind. Would rather not post, but can do that fully insured and packed up tight in the hard case. Hi everybody. This Fender American Elite Jazz V ( made 2016 ) is in excellent / V Good condition overall for an 8+ year old bass. The original owner gigged it occasionally before I bought it in July 2019. Since then it has only had limited Home use only as it competes to get played with my other basses. There’s some very slight fret wear under the D string from frets 2 to 7 , hardly visible, which I noticed when polishing the frets this week. The black gloss body gleams. One small dink near the chrome control plate , top side, and one on the back face close to the jack. Some other mini pits but please see the photos to see how minor they are. The finish is not broken. Still no sun here so took the photos today in the conservatory. Hence reflections of roof panel parallel lines, moss lumps and palm leaves. I’ve also had a 4 string Elite Jazz since 2016 and will keep that, so now it’s time to let someone else have the pleasure of this superb Fiver. Fender’s top of the range, with it’s Noiseless pickups, powerful pre amp and excellent build quality. Many consider the Elite series Fenders ( 2016-2020) their best. Played it this morning. No issues whatsoever. It’s so impressive in Passive mode and truly exciting in Active mode. The bass really does look stunning and is in perfect working order. All original apart from an identical WD Music pickguard I bought. Truss rod lever, saddle key and Schaller strap Locks are included and the original Fender Tag. Both batteries read 9.36v today, so it’s ready to leap out of your cabs! Well balanced whether standing or sitting at 4.56kg 10lbs 1oz. Alder body, maple neck with gloss finish , pearloid black blocks and black binding. Delicious! 34 inch scale. 46.7mm nut. 17.5mm string spacing at saddles currently - adjustable , via the grooved saddles. Price for this much sort after and currently very rare Black/Maple stunner includes insured UK mainland delivery in the original Fender Elite Moulded hardshell case, then a large outer box. I’ve searched and can’t find another Black/ Maple Elite Jazz V so you might have to act quickly to secure this. Thank you for looking. More detail below specific to this bass. So, when I’m not writing about basses and licking various Flatwounds to decide on my favourite flavour… I actually do play bass. I have a band called Fiasco Jam - I actually joined them a year ago to the day. They’re a great band and I love the guys, they’re fun to be around and it allows my inner Indie Boy to play out. I make no bones about my love of funky, Jazz stuff. But it’s not their thing and they chuckle when I whip into my Mancunian Marcus Miller stylings during breaks in practice. Prior to this band, I was in a very good Funk/Rock/Blues type outfit called Flying Oceans… I loved the music we did, but as these things do…it fell apart when money, albums, creative tensions and ultimately Egos got in the way. We only ever managed one gig… The singer and I clashed regularly…we’re not fast learners…it was our third project together. I absolutely love him as a friend, he’s a great singer and like any toxic coupling we are inexplicably drawn to one another. We just cannot get rid of one another. Some of you may know that I generate musical ideas with alarming regularity…like a reverse writers block. It causes me to stockpile ridiculous amounts of Demos. My current band take on these ideas, and as of writing this - 5 out of 10 songs in the set are mine, another 7 are going onto the album… So they’re not wasted follies. What to do with the other stuff though? Out of the blue, I asked for the Masters from “Circles” to do a video for Iris’ Wheelchair ramp jumping (she’s entered an online competition). The Flying Oceans singer duly sent them over. ”you got any new gear, new songs” etc. So I sent him A few demos. He’s spent a week writing and demoing vocals. Hes about to send the first one over. I shall return with the results. The band is done, as far as I’m aware as drummer and guitarist left Manchester between the band ending and now… But they’re fine if we record and release as Flying Oceans As a point…I’ve no clue what he’s recorded so I might not be so positive this evening 🤣 Has anyone else got an ex band mate or band they keep going back to? Matt is mine - this is now our 4th run at working together…5 points

I thought I was building a mini board for mainly Bass VI, but I can fit on more mini pedals than I thought I could. On the way, it's turned in to an "affordaboard" where I'm trying out cheap mini pedals: Changes since the previous iteration: Boss MD-200 replaced by my Lekato Loop Auto and a new Donner Mod Square II. Not the greatest modulation effects but I'm not a heavy modulation user. I've never had a Flanger before, and am trying that at the moment: Flanger I is milder than Flanger II etc. The legends don't align with the knob and it's more "set & forget" for a bit of flavour. I did a NBD post about the NUX Sculpture, which I quite like so far. Very clean in Normal Mode, definitely provides smooth sustain. I haven't felt the need to dial back the Blend, on full it's not taking anything away. The Clip mode is mild and wouldn't even be called "overdrive": it colours the sound slightly, at least the way I have it all set. Could be handy in combination with the Mosky Silver Horse also doing a mild overdrive. The ToneX One pedal is still great, I currently have The Fridge (Ampeg SVT) and a Fender Bassman into 1x15" as the two switchable preset models. I won't use this if hook the board to an amp. I'm having problems with my IK Product Manager account, though: it's lost the pedal registration and so won't let me use the Librarian any more to load the pedal. I'm on to support, will see what they say. What next? I might put the Mooer Soul Shiver back on as a second modulation stage. Or I might look for a mini octaver for the space up front, though I don't think octave works as well on Bass VI. I might put the larger T-Rex Diva Drive on this board in place of the Fuzz. The Marks & Spencer Curiously Strong Mints tin for plectrums doesn't really fit. How am I supposed to show off my middle class credentials if I can't have that?5 points

I am in the process of having a new ACG 5 string being built, and when that arrives in 2025 I’ll need at least one, if not both my existing 5 strings to make way. Therefore both this and my gorgeous Zoot Funkmeister are up for sale. Ultimately I’m not 100% sure which bass I want to sell but I am sure at least one has to go. So I will let the market decide. If the Zoot goes first, this stays, or if this goes first, the Zoot stays. Or if someone wants a deal on both, we can sort something out! This was commissioned in 2018 and arrived in 2019, on the back of learning a lot from a previous Finn 5 and Finn 4 commission, and was designed to be a clean hi fi bass for a function band. It absolutely nails that brief, and the neck profile along with the smooth satin-esque polymer oil finish is a delight. It’s lightweight and easy to play and has led me to finally cave and create my “ultimate” Finn 5 spec with a holly top. Specs: 5 string, 32” scale 2-piece swamp ash body 5-piece maple/bubinga neck Acrylic impregnated maple board 4+1 headstock with maple veneer ACG FB pickups East Uni Pre 4K circuit with passive tone Hipshot A-type bridge with 16.5mm string spacing 45mm nut Gotoh resolite tuners Neutrik locking jack Schaller strap locks https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0343finn5/ It’s been cosseted its whole life, so is in pretty close to perfect nick. It does have a couple of natural imperfections in the woods which I mention for full disclosure, but they are natural rather than caused by me being a clumsy oaf. There is a small nick in the top of the bridge pickup cover too, which has been there since birth and in no way affects anything. I presume it was just a slightly dodgy moulding of the plastic case. Will be supplied with a Fusion gig bag, or possibly a Mono dual bass bag if sold with the Zoot and preferred. Collection only, or could arrange a convenient place to meet within around 45-60 mins max from me. Bank transfer upon meeting is preferred method of payment. No trades for the reasons explained above.4 points

I’m having a big clear-out, so up for grabs is my 2021 Status S2 Classic 5-string, in pristine condition. I bought it last year from the original owner, who received it from Status at the tail end of the pandemic, and thinking he wasn't going to get out to play it, put it straight into storage, so it’s pretty much factory-fresh. As lovely as it is, I just find myself gravitating back to my extra-long scale Laklands, so I’ve decided to move it on. As you may know, although Status are now back in limited production, Rob isn’t working with carbon graphite anymore, so these basses are only going to become harder to come by, especially in near-new condition like this one. Mahogany wings, walnut tone block, flame maple top with a black pinstripe, bolt-on neck fitted with blue neck-edge LEDs, Gotoh 350 tuners, standard 18mm bridge spacing, 4.1kg. Complete with a Status-branded Hiscox case and all the original paperwork. Collection is preferred from near Woking in Surrey (GU23), but I can ship within the UK at the buyer's risk. £2500 + shipping. Sorry, no trades please.4 points

We played the Apple and Parrott in Torquay last night. They have their own PA, lights and sound guy which is great. I also park at work which is a 1 minute walk away. It started off a bit quieter than usual but really kicked off in the second set with the audience getting right into it. It was mostly the guys going for it, and a couple of them had some nice words to say afterwards. The sound out front is great, but the stage sound is aways odd. They were a monitor down and it was difficult hear the guitar. Even he was struggling to hear himself. I could hear myself ok but not so much through my rig, but the PA itself, which was pretty epic. At the end of the night I took some of the audience. Another fun night.3 points

I had loads of cables over my pedalboard, not everything is the right length. One of the nice things about 2040 aluminium is that it's in use in CNC machines and 3d printers, so somebody somewhere has probably had a similar problem to you, in my case cable clips for too long cables. Found this on Printables.com https://www.printables.com/model/15228-yacc-yet-another-cable-clip-for-openbuilds-v-slot-/files Lots of different clips that simply <ahem> clip into the aluminium. Push cables through and that's it. No cable ties, dead easy and dirt cheap.3 points

Converting a right hand stick EUB like the Stagg, Aria, Harley Benton etc isn’t a huge challenge, but be prepared to be underwhelmed. I started on the Stagg, quickly moved on to a KK Baby Bass, and most recently an NS NXT. Each step has taken me closer to an upright sound (especially as I am now running double bass impulses from 3Sigma) but it’s still not a true upright bass sound. So much so that I have just today taken a loan of a real db which I think is probably coming home to stay with me.3 points

For no obvious, defensible, or even remotely sensible reason I decided to haul my Bugera Nuke to my Bandeoke gig last night. The venue is big enough but not huge, there's a full PA in situ. As it transpired the decision was fully justified. Sound engineer didn't show, we managed to get some mics working but the backline didn't go through front of house. So I got to enjoy playing at a decent volume and really feel the bass going through me. It was joyful. I used the Nuke biamped with the higher end going to two 2x8s and the low to two 1x10s. There's a control which operates like a tilt shift, once the equipment is sorted it's so simple to bias in favour of the upper or lower frequencies, and the crossover point can also be moved to suit. As usual the place was packed with semi clad nubiles all having a great time. I however had my eyes firmly fixed on the music so headed home with a clear conscience.3 points

Added some Barefoot Buttons last week, should have done this a long time ago, excellent comfort for at home whilst in socks and so much easier to select at practice and gig situation. I'm having to have a go at backing vocals whilst switching and was struggling at times. At home practice I tended to switch pedals by hand or have to put me trainers on, SWMBO was never happy about that 😆3 points

Hey guys, I'm selling a stunning MM V5 5 String passive bass. I purchased this brand new in September 24 for £468, and spent £35 on lighter gage strings. I still have the box so can be packaged up if you want to arrange a courier or I'm based in Swindon for collection. Will consider trades. Still in brand new condition, and plays and sounds beautifully. You're very welcome to pop over to try it. Priced at £390. Thanks Freddie2 points

Bass players are supposed to like octave right? but through the old zoom multifx I had I was always non plusesed, I liked it even less when I had a hx stomp… and my idea of a SA C4 synth pedal as the be all and end all of effects on my board came unstuck when I couldn’t get a oc2 sound I liked out of it. Don’t get me wrong, recorded and listening back it sounded great - but it felt wrong, it was something about the attack and maybe a slight latency that made things feel really staccato or something. which is fine, I don’t like octaves. I’m not mad on jazz basses either - but we are all different and like different things and that’s ok. then my friend @jimbobothy admits to being a pedal addict. Now maybe there is support groups for this but the nice thing is he’s let me try a ton of analogue octaves over the years from the first markbass raw I tried which seemed nicer than what I was getting with the C4 … and mxr vintage bass octave which I hated- but they sounded different to the digital versions… then unexpectedly won this on eBay - and it’s amazing, it sounds pretty much the same but I prefer it to the oc2 I’ve tried, it’s maybe more low mids focused, warm sounding, tracks to low D on a 5 string (!) and just lovely. and like an OC-2 - just not quite loud enough - so treating it like an oc2 I took the -2 pot off, and tied the output to ground [note if you try this the input is on the wiper, not the output like a oc2) and it’s awesome - mid point on the direct level is now unity, the -1 is louder and … well who ever uses -2 with bass anyway?! these things are mint!2 points

...or six. But finally done. Could have played a bit better, so umm "tone was my point" yeah 😅 This was recorded back in July so my mistakes are even more obvious to me after a couple months of additional practice since. But always short on time, so compromises have to be made... 😅 Planning to use all 3 in a proper full mix setting too, working on a cover.2 points

Debut gig/1st album launch party by 'Big Horizon' (which is 5 of the guys from Jeff Lynne's ELO and Take That live bands) at Pizza Express Live in Holborn, London. Great original music in the Hall & Oates, Doobie Bros, Ambrosia etc 'yacht rock' style played by some of the finest musicians and singers on the live circuit. Had a nice chat with frontman Iain Hornal (who also appears with 10CC) and bassman extraordinaire Lee Pomeroy afterwards too. Fantastic stuff!2 points

Join a band, and learn how to play with people who won't play exactly like the record (deliberately or by making mistakes, speed variations etc). That's a real skill often overlooked to learn.2 points

2004 (I think...) Gibson SG Special. Bought this recently but have come to the conclusion I'm more of a PRS man (ugh) so it has to go. Points to note: After it came to me I replace the dusty old Gibson tuners with Gotoh locking tuners - much nicer. Still have the originals. Whoever did the wiring job was having an off day, so I replaced the pots, jack, and wiring with a "modern wiring" loom from Jame's Home of Tone --- CTS pots, switchcraft jack, and a solderless connector so changing pickups is easy if you want to. Pickups are non-original. I don't know what they are and neither did the previous owner but they 1) sound good to me 2) sound a bit PAF-fy (but I am definitely not an expert...) Guitar has definitely been played (personally I think this is a good sign). There are dings, swirls, paint chips, scratches etc to the body, headstock, etc. I've tried to photograph the worst of them. Its not a case queen! I'm looking for £799 collected from Burntisland, Fife or can meet in Haymarket in Edinburgh during the working week. Not really looking for trades but you can ask. A Squier P-bass, perhaps? I'm also interested in Boss stomps or interesting amps... Gallery of lots and lots of pics here: https://imgur.com/a/sg-special-VM7Fwcd Selected highlights below:2 points

I now own both the Lekato WS-50 (5.8GHz) and Nux C-5RC (5.8GHz). The Lekato was bought as a 5.8GHz upgrade to my Line 6 2.4GHz unit (which was good but suffering 'occasional' drop out, probably due to the bands I was in moving to digital mixers) and I was very happy and have zero complaints. I've recently however, joined a new band (and resurrected an old band), so felt that the NUX's ability to recharge on the fly if needed, was useful; added to which the NUX seemed a better quality unit (inc the on/off switch). A/B there is nothing in it between the units... literally nothing. I tried them with passive basses, actives (inc 18v), piezo loaded bridges and a bug on a Double Bass; no difference between either unit. I will say that there is a tiny bit of difference (through quality headphones) between the 2 units and a regular 1/4" lead BUT that could simply be that the lead had no boost which the electronic devices must have been giving (they were slightly louder cleaner/toppier). If I could put them on a scope maybe I'd find detail but in everyday use 'nadda'! The NUX certainly feels more premium but on a budget, the Lekato would suit many. However, I appreciate in some situations, certain basses/equipment appear to not work as well with some units but I couldn't replicate any issues that others had. £50 v £150 (approx) you pays your money...2 points
