Well, this arrived via FedEx today. Sorry there's only one fairly mediocre pic, I'll update with more and more detailed views later. All I've done so far is tune her up, but first impressions are really good, which is just as well, because I had to bite the bullet of £200 to get it shipped to the UK. Everything from the neck joint to the fret ends seems great - quality control must have been on their game; and the satin finish neck aches to be played fast (that won't happen!). I've yet to weigh her, but I'm guessing under 8lb - again, more exact info later. The hardest thing has been explaining to my other half why I need yet another bass 🤣 So far, I'm well chuffed.12 points

Hurtsfall played at a private party in Wolverhampton which was more like a mini goth festival. It was the 50th birthday of a well-know person on the "scene" and she had asked us and 5 other great bands if we would play. We were on first and tasked with getting the event started, which I think we managed although the room didn't really fill up until a couple of hours later. Didn't play as well as we did on Tuesday (but I think that was an exceptional performance) but no-one in the audience seemed to notice and that included several people who are now very familiar with our music. Sold a ton of merch and then were able to relax and enjoy the other bands. Because we were staying until the end, we'd booked a hotel which turned out to be less than salubrious. I don't know what else was happening in Wolverhampton but even 6 months before the gig it was impossible to get anywhere decent and close to the city centre for what I would call typical "Premier Inn" hotel rates. Everywhere with rooms was either miles away, crap or stupidly expensive. However that was the only downer of the weekend. Obligatory live pics (there may be more later): Next gigs are in two week's time in Sheffield on 23rd November as part of the In The Bl4ck Mid-Winter Festival and then on the Sunday in Nottingham playing a Rock Against Racism weekender.12 points

Today is my birthday (round one) and to celebrate it, I am selling this lovely 2010 Ernie Ball Music Man 4H 2EQ bass in candy red for £1111. It is only available today! I bought it from BassBros earlier this year. I cleaned it thoroughly and touched up the little dings on the upper horn and near the bridge. See photos below. The bass is in great condition – comfortable neck, good balance, no fret buzz, and the tuners and knobs are sturdy and move smoothly. Everything feels like great quality. The bass weighs 4.4 kg and comes with the original EBMM gig bag. Speaking of costs, we all know how much new Stingrays go for nowadays (£3k!). BB had the bass for £1499 and recently sold the same model with a rosewood fretboard again for £1499. So, I think that £1111 is a great price. See it as my birthday gift to you 🎂 Collection would be recommended but I can also ship it (UK mainland only, sorry!) using a decent courier. Shipping would of course add some costs (approx. £30/40).5 points

Hi. Here is my mint condition Sire P7 2nd generation 5 string bass which I bought new in Jan 2019 ( Made in 2018 ). It’s only had occasional home use here due to competition from my other 5 and 4 string basses. Hence the Mint condition with no blemishes, swirls or dents. Just as it came out of the Sire box. Selling because………….I bought a white one the same. ( I know. Couldn’t stop myself! ) The gloss black finish is superb and the pickups pre amp, truss rod , bridge and tuners all function perfectly. The bass has an Alder body, beautiful Ebony fingerboard with pearloid block markers, rolled edges and classy white binding. The maple neck has a satin urethane finish for a non stick, fast feel. A superb rocking powerhouse of a bass which can also cover a variety of subtle tones. Passive or Active with the awesome 18v powered 3 Band onboard Preamp. Both batteries checked this week, both reading 9.37v , not new but still on full output. Well balanced at 4.5kg , 9lbs 15oz whether standing or sitting. Strung with D’Addario 130 - 45 nickel plated roundwounds. 34 inch scale, 46mm nut width and 18mm string spacing at the saddles. More specification detail in the photos (screenshots) below. Truss rod and saddles allen keys included and I’ve taken off the body end strap button for the journey , it’s wrapped up and in the pouch with the allen keys safely away from the bass. This is a 2nd Generation Sire P7 in Perfect condition and please bear in mind I’ve included UK mainland Fedex insured delivery ( It’s £20 extra to N.I and islands , so I’ve discovered so you’ll need to cover that. Thanks.) It’ll be double boxed (Sire Marcus Miller inner box )and padded well. Thanks for looking.4 points

Had a few messages re more Pics and info on this one. Built by the late Paul McNabb it’s a copy of a 1960 precision with nitro neck and body finish. Reverse tuners and hootenanny button. I have the original pick up and wiring, although the Monty’s pickup and loom is far better imho. I’ve been in touch with Paul’s daughter on the Facebook group for these instruments and she’s provided me with a copy of the order book the include this particular instrument. Pauls work is pretty legendary and this is an excellent example that I should probably hang onto!3 points

Sounds and looks great to me. Updating the pots next with CTS 500k ones on the neck p/u and tone control (new bridge pickup doesnt need to be any brighter) then I'm done.3 points

Trade options: I'm honestly not good enough of a fretless player to justify such a high level fretless bass (current models sell for >4k), so I would prefer a downtrade with a cheaper 5-string fretless + some cash my way. Other trade options are: Eich 12", 8Ohm cab, Genzler 4 on the floor, TC Electronic Ditto+, 5string P-bass, synthy bass fuzz, expression pedal for moog mf101, interesting fx-pedals. W.h.y.g.? 🙂 Up for sale/trade is this beautiful custom Manne Guitars Fretless 5-string bass. Everyone who has ever played this have said that this is one of the best sounding fretless basses they'vd ever heard and I can only agree with that sentiment. The passive single coil and humbucker offer a very wide range of quality tones and really allow you to dial in your own sound. The fact that it has both a normal (Jack/TRS) output as well as a direct out (XLR) means you have loads of optons for splitting your signal both on stage and in the studio. A specially designed onboard transformer provides an extremely clean extended range signal; you can plug straight into a board or your amp. The body is made of mahogany with a maple/mahogany core and a beautiful poplar burl top. The neck is super stable and made out of multi-layered maple and mahogany. The board is made out of a very dark phenolic resin and is equiped with 24 fretlines. The 5-way switch switches between different pickup combinations and the knobs are overall volume + an active tone control (bass boost). The bass has a 34" scale super comfortable neck and the total weight comes in at around 4kg. The bass just had a complete check-up and both the scratchy volume pot and output jack were replaced with new, quality parts. The pickup cavities were shielded, I've put new foam under the pickups ,redid a part of the wiring and installed a fresh battery for the onboard transformer and active tone control. The bass also got a detailed set-up with a fresh set of d'Addario 40-125 gauge nickel roundwounds and now she sounds and plays as new again, so you can basically plug and play straight out of the box. The bass comes with a Warwick gigbag that fits it perfectly. As you can see on the extra pictures (see link: https://link.2dehands.be/m2196629500 ) there's quite a few superficial blemishes on the body and some superficial wear on the fingerboard which I highlighted in the pictures. However, unless you really start looking for them these are not really visible to the naked eye. (Please check the 2dehands.be link above for more pictures as I couldn't add them all here.) The bass will be safely packed and well padded to ensure safe shipping. Price in Euro: 1500€ o.n.o. Any questions? Please ask! Greets & Grooves!3 points

Genz Benz NEOX-112T 1x12” 300W 8 ohm I’m selling my Genz Benz NEOX-112T cab – this is the Mk1 version with the dark grey carpet covering and Eminence neo driver (& adjustable tweeter). I bought this several years ago from a fellow Basschatter , since when it has been used for a moderate number of gigs and rehearsals – it’s perfect on its own for small to medium gigs , plenty of volume and depth , with added clarity/dispersion from the tweeter. The tilt-up stand on the bottom definitely helps you hear yourself more clearly on small stages. For anyone familiar with such things it’s roughly the same internal volume as a Barefaced Big Baby but a slightly different shape and (to my ageing ears at least) the two cabs sound broadly similar. It's all in good working condition and cosmetically fine, there are a few scuffs on the corners/connector panel etc. but the grille is undamaged and the carpet covering is in good clean condition. It has always been transported with the fitted Roqsolid cover which is included in the sale. I’m only selling now as I have acquired too many cabs over the last few years and don’t really have the space for them all so reluctantly something needs to give. I’m based in Brentford (near J1 of the M4) if you’d like to come along and see it / try it out, or I could probably meet up/deliver if reasonably close. Any questions please say. Pete. Here are some specs from Genz : - Power Handling RMS: 300 Watts - Frequency +/- 3db: 45-18K Hz - Sensitivity 1W/1M: 98 dB - Nominal Impedance: 8 ohm - Crossover Point: 4 KHz - Connections: ¼” & Speakon - Weight : 16kg - fold-away tilt stand on bottom - Approx dimensions (H x W x D): 457 x 535 x 410 mm (18 x 21 1/4 x 16 1/2 in).3 points

As above - I am big Vulfpeck and all surrounding projects fan, but couldn't stomach those costs. As basic as they are, they do look cool. However, should you find it's not for you I'll politely take my spot at the front of the queue for first dibs 😂3 points

I would have thought that the best approach was both. Learning by ear to survive real life and also notation / theory to learn things that you cannot directly listen to, and to communicate with others3 points

This is great advice for somebody who might not have the confidence to join a band or play with other musicians yet. I remember spending between 30 mins and a hour a day, playing along to Radio 1 in the early 80's. It didn't matter what the song was, or even if you liked it. It was about reacting to music and finding the key and the structure purely by ear. A musician with " a good ear" is a valuable commodity indeed.3 points

Actually I’m with @diskwaveon this one. Not because you’ll always be stuck in pub bands or can’t play jazz, because I don’t think that’s the case, but because knowing how to read dots opens up a lot of learning opportunities and also because it’s the language of what we do, so seems like an appropriate thing to do. Also, not that hard to learn, like anything you’re doing it just takes practice and although frustrating at first, is rewarding when you get there. I’ve just picked up some etudes and classical pieces to study purely to learn and expand on some harmony/melodic concepts and the only format is notation. You could always incorporate learning to read as part of the overall musical journey you’re on, which could be fun. But as others have also said, it’s not by any means strictly necessary.3 points

Yes the talman has a wide neck, and is quite a good bass (although shocking QC, but then really cheap) although it has to be said its balance isn't the best.3 points

Board no. 2 for rehearsals and smaller settings is still a work in progress. The only pedals on here I'm 100% happy with are the tuner and the Melvin Lee, I'd consider the comp and dim-glass as placeholders. The positive is the top level metalworking that went into dremel-ing out a kettle lead plug into the rockboard!3 points

My main board for weddings and other events Shure wireless goes into a Broughton HPF (underneath) then to the dyna-saur. The signal them splits (underneath again) with a JHS splitter with a clean signal going to a Harley Benton Magnum DI to front of house and our IEMs, another signal path goes to the MXR octave, bass crybaby (with custom edge lord graphics) mxr el grande fuzz, way huge pork loin for grit and the dark glass for when things get a bit silly! This all gets sent to my Aguilar Ag700 straight into the ears, cockles and sub-cockle regions of pissed up party goers We do a wide range of covers and so far it's ticked all the boxes. Love temple audio boards but but the mounting plate system is totally over engineered in my opinion so it's long been swapped for 3M dual lock3 points

Is hotel room burglary really much of a problem nowadays? I don't see the issue really. Things would be much safer in a hotel room which requires keycard access (and also possibly lift access) than in a car on display for all to see.3 points

Another weekend, another new venue. Played at the Railway Club in Keith last night with Nine Lives. Have you ever rocked up to a venue, only to wonder if it's even open? We feared the worst when the drummer and I arrived first and parked up outside. Tiny door which looks like it should be a side door or something turns out is the main door - pub is actually upstairs. Ugh, stairs, where are the roadies when you need them? So we recce the place and it's empty - save for a guy at the bar with an acoustic guitar playing it, who turned out to be someone we auditioned to be our singer but rejected. I did wonder if this would be awkward. Thankfully, it was not - he was bang up for a good night and came up and said hi afterwards, no hard feelings, good vibes only. Anyhoo, we get set up and just before we start, some people thankfully came in and it grew from there. Turns out there was some sort of fireworks display that night which explains the absence of folk at the start of the evening. It quickly filled up, ended up with a good crowd - it's not a big place by any means but the beauty of that meant that the 40-ish folk who were there seemed like way more. We had a fantastic sound, place was tiny so I didn't even bother with the PA, just used my bass rig to provide the boom on its own. We played really well, no major bloopers. Got lots of good feedback after and the landlord was impressed so hopefully we'll be back. It's a bit of a trek, but I'll travel far to play to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Gear: Sire D5 then Squier Jag H (or the ATJ as someone suggested on LowEndLobster's discord server), into the Markbass terrible twosome.3 points

Looking for trade with a 5 string Jazz bass of either equal second hand price level or possible additonal value balance by me. Indonesian TRB1005, not that it need to be ashamed of that, remarkable quality in this price level which to many would be all they really need. One of these slightly anonymous Do It All instruments that gets the job done with an even and very well balanced sound. 35" scale, 4 kg, fretboard radius around 23 5/8” (600 mm), string spacing bridge 18mm, saddle width B to G (center to center) 36 mm. Not sure of bodywood, likely alder/basewood given the round tone character of the bass, with facing of quilted maple, maple neck with stringers of likely mahogany and rosewood fretboard. Noiseless 3 band eq with volume and pan. Possible to tweak pre-amp by potmeters on the circuit board inside the cavity. Battery held in place by stiff plastic cover, works as well as the original hinged lid. Shipping from Denmark which is normally 25-50 € depending on location in Europe. Direct sale obvious possible as well. Regards Thomas Whatsapp: +45 6120 9520 mail:therkild110gmail.com2 points

Hey 👋 Just thought I'd show some of my basses I use for wedding gigs! Happy to answer and questions about the process 1. Pink Hawaiian print, no real story behind it but I love pink basses! 2. My take on George Harrison's rocky, the Fookin Ell is an in joke with my drummer that helps ease the pain of a 4 hour drive at 2am! Go Pigs Go is a little tribute to my bulldogs. 3. I rarely use the jazz-bird because of a shoulder injury but it's a monster. The cow print seemed like a good idea at the time?? 4. Nothing special here just rattle can pink over green which has worn through. This is my number 1 gigging bass as it plays great and weighs nothing! It's fast approaching 100 outings Hope you enjoy!2 points

For sale is my Xotic RC booster. Great pedal, mainly for clean boost, but you can get a little bit of grit out of it if you crank the gain! I used it as an always on pedal with passive basses, just for a bit extra. In great condition, and has Velcro on the bottom. No box, but will source a non original box to send. Collect from Bovingdon (next to Hemel Hempstead) or can post at buyers expense. Dave2 points

Yeah… I had a reluctant NBD some months ago as I bought a Sire P5 for an upcoming tour… I had never played a 5 string before so I bought the Sire to get my shit together. I went cheap because : A. I wasn’t sure I’d want to play one after (used to be stupidly anti-5-string for reason’s i now cannot comprehend) and B. wasn’t sure the tracks from the album that were played on 5 string would be in the setlist... So here we are, 6/7 months later… I’ve been playing the 5 string tracks on the tour and I love playing 5 string. Makes total sense to me. Sold my Sire P5 to a friend that was on the market for a good deal and found myself in a beautiful setting at Bass Budda in Aarhus, Denmark yesterday trying all the 5 strings. I can’t recommend visiting Morten at Bass Budda enough if you’re ever there. My most enjoyable bass shopping experience ever! Here’s my new axe then. So happy with it, it’s high end, particular, gorgeous, rowdy, light and full of character. We’ve been getting on like a house on fire, all night long A couple of short clips here if you’re interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT7jqRgalYI&list=PLP9ULvzEKH65apzKw4jibInwHdlbLjF7i2 points

I've only played one once in a. Festival stage and it was pretty good through an 810. Spades of power and presence. Everyone's posts above are bang on.....throw in the cost of a revalve and it's not cheap... That said I still play through a matamp gt200. Not the most practical, heavy, way too loud at times, but I love playing it. I had a Laney nexus (400w all valve) for a while. Awesome amp, but played too many gigs where it didn't really get going in the power section. I bet the soundcity is pretty banging as amps go. If you're looking lighter I think the handbox might be at 100ish watts?..... Ashdown ctm100 is pretty light by valve standards.... Kinda depends on your rehearsal volume, cabs and tuning etc. ✌️2 points

Right, that's a wrap. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. It will be known henceforth as the ATJ (Jaguar with ATK pickup). Summary of mods: Pickup replaced with Ibanez CAP double humbucker Bass rewired with a parallel/single/series switch Bridge replaced Black pickguard fitted Block "inlays" (stickers) added I can hear why people hold the Ibanez ATK in such high regard - this is a fine sounding pickup, very punchy and authorative, loads of power, but tight and defined at the same time. Played it at a gig this Saturday past and it was glorious. I really like the 32" scale, it's not noticeably toy feeling like a 30" scale, just subtly different, maybe slightly easier to play, maybe it's all in my head. But it plays really well, that I can say. Fitting the chunkier pickup and bridge seems to have removed some of the natural tendency of this bass to neck dive, as a bonus. TL:DR - it's a big improvement over the original, IMO.2 points

If you can find one 2nd hand within budget, the JMJ Mustang is great. And you can probably sell it for what you bought if for if it doesn't work out. Good luck, Phil2 points

If you can find one then a Jim Deacon Precision is a perfect "try it out" short scale bass. Used for under £150, pretty light in weight - 3.6kg ish and best of all, the basic build is definitely good enough to warrant upgrading the other bits. I got my first one a few years ago as I just wanted to try a shortie. There was a bit of neck dive so I fitted some Hipshot Ultralight tuners which completely solved that. The vol and tone controls were pretty much ON/OFF cheap things so they were replaced, and as I don't like pickup polepieces that stick out I stuck in an Aguilar that I already had. It has turned into my very favourite bass. It has La Bella short scale DTF strings on it for that Jamerson / Duck Dunn thing. I love it so much I recently bought another one. It will get the same tuning head upgrade, but this time I'm going for modern tones. I have a set of EMG PJ-X pickups that will go in it. I'll get the slot for the J routed out professionally as I should never be trusted with power tools. The string spacing at the bridge is quite narrow at 16.5mm but it turns out I like that - but if you like wide spacing then it might not be the thing for you. However the advantage with that is that the neck stays slim all the way up to the top fret and that makes it very easy on the left hand. Nut width is 38mm and the neck shape is a pleasingly full C shape. Even if you don't like it you'll have no trouble moving it on. After I bought the cream one that was on here I had messages from 2 people asking me if I was going to keep it or going to sell again.2 points

Left musical equipment in hotel rooms loads of times without any problems. Also used the "left luggage" facility of the hotel when I've wanted to go and do some sightseeing or shopping on my last day after checking out again without any issues. IMO much. much safer than leaving it in an unattended motor vehicle. Also just heard from one of the other bands that we were playing with on Saturday, that they had their car broken into overnight at their hotel. Luckily they'd taken all the gear to their rooms.2 points

We played the Apple and Parrott in Torquay last night. They have their own PA, lights and sound guy which is great. I also park at work which is a 1 minute walk away. It started off a bit quieter than usual but really kicked off in the second set with the audience getting right into it. It was mostly the guys going for it, and a couple of them had some nice words to say afterwards. The sound out front is great, but the stage sound is aways odd. They were a monitor down and it was difficult hear the guitar. Even he was struggling to hear himself. I could hear myself ok but not so much through my rig, but the PA itself, which was pretty epic. At the end of the night I took some of the audience. Another fun night.2 points
