So about a month ago - I decided to sell my Gibson Ripper to fund some house work for my little girl who needs a wet room… you have most likely seen the thread…no further comment…(love you guys). Ive been swapping between the Ripper and My Jack Casady… Both absolutely heroic in their own right. I’ve a potted history with Casady’s - I adore them and with a few minor tweaks, they’re ideal for me. So, resigned to the fact I’d be Gibson-less, I sold some bits and bobs I had in storage and a lovely little peavey bass to buy a gold Casady like my old one - to sit next to my blue one (one flats, one rounds…) But then I spotted an Anniversary model on a facebook marketplace listing which I’ve always loved (although I hated the white pickguard). The seller would not ship - and no matter how I wanted it…I agreed it was a stupid move in a gigbag. My loverboy @walshy stepped in and took the Casady under his wing. After a few weeks of trying to figure out when I could get to Hexham or he could get to Manchester. We managed it. By this point - the wonderful folk of BC had negated the sale of the Gibson by raising funds to help with the project for Iris. So I’ve now got 2 Casady’s and a ripper. Weirdly, the neck profiles are totally different - the blue one has a flatter profile, the Anniversary has a deeper shape. Needs a clean and a set up. The wonderful Earlpilanz on eBay has done me a black pickguard which is in the post. Actually really cheap (£20 all in, mental) At some point, I’ll have to sort some longer straps; the casady sits higher than I have the ripper even on the same straps because of the button position/body depth. but that’s me and gear done - for the next few years while we upgrade the house… Anyhow…fat bottomed girls…you make the rocking world go round…7 points

Thought I'd do an update. They turned up within three weeks, and I used them for the first time at practice on Monday. It's like a blanket was taken off compared to my old off the shelf earplugs. Totally worth it. Such a good investment.7 points

This Saturday I'm out on second guitar with Rebel Heroes (Bowie Tribute) at the Old Court in Windsor - tickets here. It's pretty much standing room only now so that's just £16 a head, not £20 as per the poster.4 points

So after years of EUB ownership, becoming empty nesters this year has opened the space opportunity to owning a real doghouse. As mentioned in my other thread requesting advice, I have had this lovely Boosey Hawkes Excelsior 50/2 on loan for a little while and today I have bought her. Previously owned and used by @Blartfactor10 she’s an honest workhorse bass with a great dark tone - perfect for my blue grass / country / Americana acoustic trio 😎3 points

Hit me up if you're playing in London and we might work something out 😃 FWIW this is the kind of thing I do when I have a 'proper' camera with me3 points

We used to play a medley of rock cliches as although none of us really wanted to play them, we recognised that many of the audiences we played to wanted to hear them. It consisted of the 'recognisable' bits of Alright Now, Wishing Well, Sweet Home Alabama and Sweet Child of Mine. We were a busy and tight 3 piece and the medley evolved over a few gigs as the singer called the changes. Nothing was ever formalised and the transitions were quite good most of the time (when the singer was on top form). The tempo remained the same (or within a few bpm). Often the bit in Wishing Well after the descending riff, which we would play four times through at the start, would briefly veer into '500 Miles' and/or 'Psychokiller' before coming back out into Wishing Well again. Or, if the audience was bouncing to 500 Miles (which they often did) we'd just stick with it and drop the rest of the medley. It worked because we could react to each other after hundreds of gigs together. I did consider formalising the arrangement but to be honest in this scenario it worked well and I didn't want to mess with something that wasn't broken. From my experience if I was going to work out a medley from scratch, I'd be concentrating on getting the tempo right first. As we used the example above to keep people on the dance floor, we kept the tempo danceable. Had we inserted an abrupt tempo change it wouldn't have worked.3 points

I think it's important to pick the most iconic bits of the selected songs. Nobody wants to hear some obscure reference or figure out what it was supposed to be near the end of the bit. Connect the pieces with drumfills or other transitional indicators. If you stop and count in again then you effectively start a new song.3 points

Lovely offer @silverfoxnik. I'd like to go to this but can't, if there's anyone out there who can go but can't afford the ticket, give me a shout and I'll sort the fee 👍3 points

I'd kinda forgotten about this one- unfortunately this one never made it to live use as I came home to find the body had split from the heat of my kitchen (the body was very very cheap from eBay, to call it solid wood would be generous) Some day I may attempt something similar but for now- enjoy3 points

Hey Guys, This is one of the finest Ibanez basses I’ve owned, but I just fancy a change right now. The previous owner had neglected this bass for a while, but it has since been recently professionally set up and cleaned and given a fresh bill of health by Mark at Wilts Guitar Repair. This bass is roughly 20/21 years old (going by the serial number) and as such it has seen some action. There are quite a few surface dings but nothing significant and the worst of it is on the back. The original control knobs for the bass/treble/mid/mid frequency have been replaced with newer metal ones. The playability is great with a very low action. All of the technical info on this model can be found here: https://ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/SR3005E I haven’t got a spare case unfortunately, so collection from Bridgwater, Somerset would be preferred. I do have a spare box which I can use to send it, but I would have to the buyer to cover the cost of postage and insurance. Here’s a few recent recordings with it: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DA1f1usOPHv/?igsh=MWpnc201anp4ZzJ6Ng== https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_q1XqmObM1/?igsh=MTV4bGUyOTJtanh2 I’m open to trades for potentially a Jazz or Precision bass, Stingray, Lakland, Spector. Any questions please give me a message. Thanks, Josh.2 points

Squier Indonesian Vintage Modified Mustang Bass A shortscale up for grabs. This is a Squier 70s style Mustang. Made around 2012 this version has the Duncan Designed Mustang pickup and a maple fingerboard. I’ve had a couple of these and have been impressed by how well they play and sound. It is very light on the shoulder at around 3.4kgs - lighter than my old ‘76 Mustang which I have recently purchased (hence this sale). It’s in great condition and sounds and plays well. One of the black side dots has been enlarged with a marker or paint. That’s the only thing of note cosmetically. Sorry no trades. Pickup preferred but I can post at buyers cost. There’s no gigbag included. It’s wearing a brand new set of D’Addario round wounds. Thanks for looking.2 points

Music isn't a competition, but certainly Charles Berthoud has taken Bass to new places and made some very enjoyable youtube videos in the process (and his upcoming tour looks awesome). But my point was that for me "better" is having more fun.2 points

These look fun! 30" scale, two humbuckers, matching headstocks, roasted maple neck, laurel fingerboard, poplar body. The website claims a weight of around 3.6kg and £449. Controls are apparenlty Volume, Tone, Master Tone. Seems like a possible mistake on the website - unless they've done the Keanu wiring? https://www.shergoldguitars.com/the-basses/telstar-bass.html2 points

Looks great and you will have a lot of fun with "Lilly". In your other thread it was suggested that it was a Czech bass, just like my '70's Czech bass "Peaches" but I like your fingerboard and tailpiece better than the plain ebony on mine. As others have said it is real workhorse and I use it for bluegrass and some jazz and folk, photo from earlier this week below, I put it in the "How Was Your Gig " thread a couple of days ago. Fun to play and loud, I use Spiro Mittels, I changed from the Obligatos that came with it and it totally transformed the sound. Enjoy!2 points

For sale - £750 ovno. Fender Roadworn Jazz Bass in Fiesta Red. This is actually a bitza, and is priced accoringly. To explain; I bought the genuine Fender Roadworn body some time ago from Stratosphere in the USA, intending to use it in a self-build project which I later abandoned as the neck I had wasn’t a good fit in the neck pocket. So then I bought the Fender Roadworn neck from Andertons, which was a perfect fit. I put on a set of Fender reverse wind machine heads, Fender pickups and Fender Hi-Mass bridge. The scratch plate is of unknown origin, and had been sitting in my spares box for years. The result is a very nice feeling and sounding bass. It’s currently strung with D’Addario Chromes and sounds exactly as it should. I have used it on a few gigs and been very happy. The neck is straight and true and there is zero fret wear. The reason for sale? I am an old timer pro player approaching retirement, and it’s time to reduce my instrument inventory to a more sensible level. I no longer want or need 5 Jazz Basses (?🤔?), so this was last in and first out. I would prefer collection in person, or can deliver/rendezvous within 15 miles of Southend in Essex. I will consider shipping at buyers cost. I should be able to find a case of some sort for it, and it will be in a proper bass guitar shipping box. PM me with any questions. Thanks for looking.2 points

my friend is currently going through some financial dificulties so I am selling some gear on his behalf. This is a Fender Highway one US jazz bass. looking up the serial number its from 2007, with Badass II bridge. it says :- HWY1 J BASS UPGRD RW FLT BLK From reading online, its possibly got a graphite reinforced neck? I dont know how to check if this is the case. I did ask on the wozit werth section for a value but no replies, by all means make a sensible offer and I can relay that to him. It was bought by mate from a local gigging band and was played extensively with them for a few years, he then bought it and it stayed in his studio. I've recorded two albums with this bass and have always enjoyed playing it. I already own two jazz basses and not gigging so have no need for it. I could probably try to get some sound files recorded though if interested, look up Truckers of Husk Physical Education EP or Dharma Violets on spotify. The satin finish is worn to a gloss look in parts and it has numerous gigging dings. I bet it wouldnt take much playing to become a real road worn bass considering its a nitro finish. Unfortunately he left the bass on a cheap guitar stand for a while so on the back (pictured) the nitro finish has reacted and melted a bit below the neck plate. Its all original apart from scratch plate, he is on the search for it though I think he paid quite a bit for the tort plate. No case- I dont believe they ever did come with one though I may have a soft case sitting somewhere in the attic. Location- currently its in Bridgend. my mate is in between accomodation (sofa surfing) and is spending his time between North Wales and the Devon area so could arrange some sort of pick up from this area. Ideally it would be collected or can meet somewhere though I can look into postage. (not something I have ever done with an instrument) Pics wise below- by all means ask for more detailed ones if interested.2 points

I will double check actually - I had swapped out a few tubes at some point, and had greatly preferred the sound of an old Philips 12ax7. That tube is definitely not still in the Finally, but I will double check what I put in there. Either way I am happy to include a couple of tubes for people to experiment with themselves. I certainly wouldn't claim either is "better". I find the 12ax7 to typically be warmer, and give me a bit more control over saturation/breakup (which I imagine is due to the relationship of the gain pot taper, and the more present saturation starting earlier in the pots range of travel), whilst the 12au7 is cleaner, clearer, and tighter. I will ensure it has the original 12au7 installed, but include a 12ax7 in the sale as well.2 points

Absolutely. In my old band we used to do a few medleys, and the various songs were joined together by either the main riffs or a few bars of drums. For example,we did a ten minute Motown medley which made this quite easy, as many have well known riffs / intros which are recognisable and share the same tempo. Our aim was to get people on the dance floor and keep ‘em there! The band played functions of all kinds, and we were usually successful in this. ( Other medleys we did included Disco, 60’s, 70’s, Rock and Xmas ). Even now when I hear one of the songs we ‘Medlied’ I still think of how it went into the next one!2 points

Just basic learning theory. You learn from something existing, so by not learning what others have done you’re relying on something you’ve subconsciously heard, something you know already, theory or a mixture of all 3. The more you learn from others the more you absorb into your own arsenal of ideas.2 points

A bit of an odd one, just three of us from our five person bluegrass band played a dinner gig (6-8) at a restaurant/pub in downtown North Bay. It is very long narrow room, not very good for live music and the owners are just wanting to see if music at that time would be a good idea. We played a couple of "bluegrassyish" sets with mostly standard bluegrass songs but some Gordon Lightfoot, Everly Brothers and a couple of other country or pop tunes and it went down well with the fairly small crowd. We kept the volume down so we could be heard but not disturb conversations and it worked out well, a number of compliments and even the staff seemed to enjoy it. We all know that being at the end of a long narrow room is about the worst way to set up but the people who wanted to hear better had tables closer to us and all the diners and drinkers seemed happy with the set up. This was our first gig as a trio and we were a bit worried about how it would go but now we are hoping to get a return gig and maybe gigs at other venues too. We don't take up much room and we aren't too loud and play an unusual mix of music and we are cheaper than bigger bands. Bluegrass is a summer festival type of music here so it's good to have a few gigs in the quiet time of the year. Edit: just got word we are invited back for next Tuesday.👍2 points

Major finger breakthrough today; suddenly a load of feeling seems to have come back (it's very itchy!). I'm playing my bass and can feel the pressure in the tip again for the first time when fretting. I think the itching is just the unused nerves firing up again. I can feel the winds of my strings with it, which I couldn't before.2 points

Nor can I ... amazing really! And to top it all, I shared the tale of it's rebirth on the Prusa Facebook page and none other than Josef Prusa got in touch and gifted me 1,000 Prusameters (their reward points)! On tope of the few I already had this allowed me to get three sppols of Prusa PETG paying only about £11 for the delivery charge! S'manth x2 points

FS - KK Baby Bass, Classic model. Very good condition. £950 ovno. I bought this new in 2020, used for recording only, never been gigged or even taken out of the house. Has the perfect Ampeg Baby Bass vibe for Jazz, Latin, Blues, or whatever you like. Comes with original soft case. The reason for sale? I am an old timer approaching retirement, and it’s time to reduce my instrument inventory to a more sensible level. This is just one item from a large selection of gear that I’m letting go. This is not a small or lightweight item so collection in person only, or I could deliver/ rendezvous within 15 miles of Southend in Essex. Paypal preferred. Please PM with any questions.1 point

Thank you, one and all. You’ll never know how much it means x We’ve had some positive news today…after 5 years of wondering what was in the in the tiny cupboard in the little coat cupboard near the front of the house…it’s the bloody water main inlet. so we might not have to dig out the entire floor of the house. happy days.1 point

Reluctant sale of one of the best basses I've ever owned. Purchased new by me from Spain. It's in very good condition overall with a couple of very small nicks and some light surface marks. The frets are barely worn and the neck is straight. This limited run of USA 60th anniversary basses were created to show off all the best attributes of all the classic P basses over the years. Very light at 3.6kg. Did I mention it's a reluctant sale?1 point

I'll start off. Rob Willett, been 3D printing since lockdown. I originally brought an Ender 3 Pro to build a CNC machine. I actually did build the CNC machine but found I preferred 3D printing. I now have two Prusa MK3S+ printers and print stuff for astrophotography. I tend to use Fusion 360 for design and am happy printing in PLA or PETG. And if you don't know what those are, they're the type of filaments that the printer uses. Happy to help as needed. Thanka Rob1 point
