A couple of months ago, my eldest son was just starting his BTEC music course at high school, but didn't at that point play an instrument, so he needed to choose something..... Being a super cool kid, he obviously chose bass! 😅👌🥳❤️ He's just turned 15, what a great age to start! (I was 14) I was going to sell this cool little Ibanez GAXB150, but I gifted it to him instead. 😉 Some of his best pals are on the course too, and they've got a band going already, and have been super committed, and working hard to get where they want to be. They've even got their first performance at school next week! He's loving old school thrash metal, so we're off to see Anthrax this week too! 🤘😎 Happy times!41 points

I was away with Mrs Norris last week visiting her brother before he retires from foreign parts. I don't know if I picked up something on the plane back, but have had a worsening cold ever since we set foot back in Blighty. So Saturday I felt like death warmed up. Not quite bad enough to call the gig off, but definitely lacking in energy. It was actually a pretty decent gig. We got them up dancing, which hasn't happened there before. The landlord was very pleased. I had put a new set of D'Addario Pro Steels on my Sire P7-5 for the first time in two years. It sounded great (Boss GT-6B into my Fender Rumble v3 500 combo) - nice to have a bit of twang again. No photos because I felt like cr*p and couldn't wait to get home to bed. So then I woke up this morning feeling a little bit better, but couldn't speak! The cold, phlegm, etc. has moved onto my vocal chords, so all I could do was whisper and squeak. This afternoon was planned to be an "acoustic" gig, as it's a small pub and could easily be far too loud otherwise. With my vocals not working it was an extra stripped-down gig - literally just my Stagg EUB straight into the Rumble and a clip-on tuner. It was actually great fun and we tackled a lot of random requests from the crowd (Hotel California, Ziggy Stardust to name a couple). The EUB is fun to play - lots of silly phrases and slides to put off the guitar/vocalist. Oh, and the landlady booked us because it was her one year anniversary of taking over the pub, even though we only played there a few weeks ago and have another in the book for next month. It's always nice to be the landlady's favourite band 😁12 points

Had a great gig with STRAY at The Stables in Milton Keynes. We put ourselves under a bit of pressure with four numbers we’d hardly ever played or hadn’t played at all. I used my new BF Supertwin (thanks @JGSpector and GK MB500 plus a full in ear mix - the back line was for my other band members! Was the best gig we’ve played there and the second set in particular was smoking’! (IMHO!) A couple of acousticcy numbers gave me the rare chance to air my Epiphone Rumblekat which was nice. All filmed for posterity as well!10 points

Vigier Passion fretless carbon thru-neck (#016) £2,000 Selling my Vigier Passion lined fretless bass with carbon neck-through-body. I believe that it is a series ii with Phenowood Fingerboard. It’s all as original, including VP4 active preamp / circuit board. It sounds brilliant and is lovely to play. It is in really good condition for its age but has some small resin cracks around the output (quite common) and a repair on the underside (see photos). It’s been stored away for 30 years but recently cleaned up, serviced and set-up by Medley Guitars in London. It’s now 100% ready to play. Comes with a hard case. £2,000 I’m going to try selling in the UK first, then consider going international if there's not enough interest. Thanks for looking!9 points

This is way too good to be in storage, and I'm only really gigging on DB at the minute. Shuker Series 2, 5 string, built in 2007. 34 inch scale, 19mm string spacing, 4.2 kilos. Ash body with a Camphor Burl top, with matching headstock facing. Maple neck and board, with LED side dots for dark stages, and a brass nut. Wizard Soapbars with an 18v John East preamp, providing all the unnecessary tonal complication you could wish for... It seems there's not a sound that this thing can't make, it's insanely versatile. Oh, and a kill switch. Really good condition for a 17 year old bass, a little dulling and swirling in the lacquer here and there from finger wear, and only a few very small marks (see pics). Currently wearing a new set of D'Addario XL130s. Comes with a Shuker branded Hiscox hardcase, which while being properly intact, all hinges/catches present and working etc, could do with a bit of a refresh inside as it's a bit tired and musty through lack of use. If we had a bath, I'd have had it in there and given it a good shampooing. Having said that, I'm pretty fussy. I really don't want to get into posting this, I'd much rather have you come round and put it through it's paces, and see what it can do. £1100 Collected from Bushey, Herts. Cash or BT on collection please.8 points

Sunday at Shrewsbury Abbey. Getting something approaching a good sound was a challenge, a negative reverb feature would have helped considerably. Apart from my cables, the kit is all BC supplies (SG bass, Ashdown EVO combo), no effects just as it is. Hands got cold in the first set despite the heating (hmm) being on, being gentlemen of age we all found the temperature challenging. Aptly started with "Burning Hell" and ended with "John the Revelator" into "Let the good times roll". Pretty well filled the Abbey so a good result. Playing pic to follow.8 points

My move to exclusively playing short scales continues and this one will likely hurt. This is the last long scale I own and ended my search for THE passive jazz bass. Sandberg make great instruments but this California TT Bass the World edition is really something special. The vintage-voiced Kloppman ‘64 pickups that come as stock with these special edition basses elevate it to a growly, grindy funk machine. This example is from early 2024 and in ‘as new’ condition except some swirling on the pick guard. It also comes with all the case candy including original hang tags! Full spec below including weight but first some video and pictures - A short video of the actual bass for sale: This is possibly the most recorded bass on YouTube with Gregor from Bass the World regularly featuring this edition on the Bass the World demo videos. I’ve selected a few videos below but there are dozens more on the Bass the World YouTube channel! Price includes shipping across the UK. I will also ship in new Thomann hardcase which should offer the protection needed. I can also give the original Sandberg soft case if collecting in person. You are also welcome to pop by to try the bass out if local to Reading or I’m happy to meet up in London. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Full specs below: Construction:Bolt-on Weight: 3.9kg Scale:34″ Body:European Ash Neck:Maple Fretboard:Maple Frets:22 Pickups:Kloppmann JB61, Creme Covers Electronics:Passive Tuners:Sandberg Bridge:Gotoh Vintage Style Finish:Black Matte Strings: Dadarrio Nickel 40-100 Finally, I also have a Basschat feedback topic. And finally and finally, I’ve also put together a curated playlist with lots more sound demos. I will add more as I find them:7 points

Wow! I've managed to find an old scan of some pictures that I had of that very rig - though it looks like a speaker was changed at some point. I'm still wondering where that P bass ended up. I last heard it was in a studio in Suffolk somewhere, but it must be a studio that no one goes to as nobody seems to have seen it! Pictured: Marshall IBS 200W head, the cabinet I think was a Traynor 2x15" and the Precision is a 70's ash body with a 80's '62 AVRI (USA) neck w/ reverse kluson tuners and Dimarzio split coil. Heavy as, but sounded like thunder.5 points

Hooray! For the first time in 8 years there's going to be a new album and tour for Jamiroquai! Can't wait to see those guys live again. I'll be getting tickets for the Amsterdam show. 4 UK shows have been announced in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Birmingham. All in December 2025. This was Jamiroquai's last tour:4 points

Well, my youngest plays drums, and the middle one has just started teaching himself guitar, so the three of them were jamming the other night! Basic, but they were making music! 👌4 points

Oh man... this is sad news. I bought a Spector from Dave a few years ago - being opposite ends of the country worried me a bit, which I explained to Dave. He gave me his number to have a chat and he offered to send me the bass to see if I liked it before deciding if I wanted to buy it. A 2 grand bass. Needless to say I bought the bass, but I've never forgotten what a generous and kind gesture that was. Dave was a credit to our community and he will be missed.4 points

I ordered mine last week, so will report back when it arrives. I've had the original Jive for a couple of years and love the low gain settings.4 points

Not entirely sure I'm cool with this decision (🙃), I do not make proper use of this lovely bass so thought I'd put it up for sale and see if there is much interest Beautiful bass that I purchased new 5 years ago though have barely touched it for a few years. It is great condition bar a scratch behind the bridge that you should be able to make out in the 3rd picture, only other negative is that the pots have become scratchy (I would presume this is due to how little they have been actuated in recent years). Spec is - Mahogany body, Eye poplar top, 2-tone Matt Red finish Set-in hard-rock maple neck, flamed maple fret board, 24 frets Bass Culture 38mm Humbuckers Delano 3-band EQ, 2x pick-up mini switches Monorail bridge, 18mm string spacing Recently had new LaBella stings fitted Includes gig bag and massive Maruszczyk leather strap I do not own decent scales so cannot weigh the bass acurately I'm afraid I built one up on the Maruszczyk configurator and it came out at 2750 euro so I don't think my asking price is too bad, willing to listen to offers though (no trades please) I'd rather not post but it can be arranged Happy to answer any questions and happy for anyone who wants to visit Faversham to test it out.3 points

Thinning the herd at the moment, so this Squier 40th Anniversary Jazz Bass is up for grabs. Brilliant bass for the money but it's just not getting as used as it once was. I also have the 40th Anniversary P Bass from this range and I'm using that a lot more. Two tone sunburst, maple neck/fingerboard and a matte finish throughout. Bought new about 18 months ago and gigged fairly regularly. Bass is still in great nick. As far as cosmetic issues go, the matte finish on the neck has gone a bit shiny with use and the same has happened on the body, by the bridge pickup where I've rested my thumb while playing. There is a TINY ding on the back of the body of the bass, but it's so tiny I can't even photograph it! I tried though, have a look at the pics. Bass plays great and is currently wearing an old set of D'Addario half rounds, for that flatwound vibe. Based in Liverpool. Would rather not post, but can be arranged at buyer's cost/risk. There is no case with this bass but it will be packaged well if required. If buyer is not too far away I can deliver personally for a fuel contribution. Meeting halfway also possible. *UK BUYERS ONLY PLEASE*3 points

My daughter plays bass. She took on my first bass when I upgraded. Over the last four years, she's got far better than me. Her alternative rock band have played a ton of gigs this year after winning a battle of the bands competition. She's just started a commercial music degree at Bath uni so now playing lots every day.3 points

For me, playing in a band was all about the sound of the whole band as one. I'd get my moments to shine but if I was concerned about expressing my emotions I'd have chosen to play guitar. The bass is about putting in the groove and making people move.3 points

After using the pedalboard I then found out that it's quite difficult to hit the pedals on the back of the board without hitting the foot switches on the front. I could easy break the pedalboard into one long boards but I'd like to keep it in two rows. So I made some pedal risers that are 25mm higher. Not sure if that's enough but I'll try that to start. I created two designs in F360, one a rectangular one for pedals that aren't too wide, the Mod Dwarf is an example of this, long and thin - 200mm x 100mm, and an H shaped one for wider pedals, such as the ToneX, which is 170mm x 140mm. It's all parametrised in F360 so making it 10mm longer or wider or higher is trivial. Takes about 3-4 hours per riser to print. I've stood on them so they are pretty strong. There are holes through for cable management. These are the horizontal holes, I made sure that a Cioks cables fits through and it easily does both horizontally and vertically. The vertical holes are for screwing the risers to the aluminium extrusion. Eight screws is massive overkill so I only use four of them, they are there in case I change the design or I make this into a production ready design and need more options. Design it in now and then forget about it. The horizontal sections are 25mm wide and so 20mm Velcro nicely fits. This is without Velcro and with velcro and a ToneX pedal. Works well and is very sturdy. Rob3 points

Had an accident which resulted in cracking the (glass) front panel of my TC RH-750 last week, which inspired me to cast eyes around for a potential suitable replacement if it were not possible to replace/repair it. Repair be damned - just seen that Thomann have reduced the Katana-500 Bass to £499, a price drop which I've found impossible to resist, even though I've presently no band! But, hell, you can't take it with you, can you? 😁3 points

Squeeze at Victoria Theatre Halifax last night. Not seen them before, but really impressed with the musicianship, vocal harmonies (there are 8 of them in the stage band, they all contribute), Glen Tillbrook's pipes and, of course, the tunes. Brilliant!3 points

This ^ I've done a LOT of P/Js, and while the initial outlay seems high, the path of least resistance is ALWAYS to not modify either the body or the pickguard, but the circuit only. I get my PJ circuits from John @KiOgon on BC, you'll struggle to get anything like as good quality for the price anywhere else. Don't make the other error of leaving 1xT 1xV with a selector switch, it really limits the options on a P/J IMPORTANT: measure the width and depth of the cavity into which the two stacked pots and make sure to let John know so that he in turn can build you a circuit that will definitely fit. Some photos probably make this process even more reliable.3 points

This shape is going to be my next 3d printed bass. I was (and still might) make it headless, so its loosely (very, very loosely) based on a Thunderbird. Oddly enough I have blue sparkly filament all lined up for it. It might be ready for next years NW and Scotland (and a bit of the SW) Bass Bash 2025 in May. Or it might not3 points

I’m interested in the conclusion of the story and hopefully the restitution here. Nobody wants a bass player to get screwed over. On the other hand I’m not wasting my time watching a video by Letts because it could help boost views and encourage some other poor soul to part money for his useless creations. Hope that clarifies my position…3 points

Well, this arrived via FedEx today. Sorry there's only one fairly mediocre pic, I'll update with more and more detailed views later. All I've done so far is tune her up, but first impressions are really good, which is just as well, because I had to bite the bullet of £200 to get it shipped to the UK. Everything from the neck joint to the fret ends seems great - quality control must have been on their game; and the satin finish neck aches to be played fast (that won't happen!). I've yet to weigh her, but I'm guessing under 8lb - again, more exact info later. The hardest thing has been explaining to my other half why I need yet another bass 🤣 So far, I'm well chuffed.3 points

I played a short solo spot in a relaxed multi-act gig to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI. I've never performed on my own before and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. I was joined for one number by the guitarist from the band I'm in - fair play to him he was there just to watch and I asked him to join me on the spot. Most of the rest of the band were there, either as punters or doing short spots of their own. I find it much harder to play in front of people I know so that didn't help the nerves. My guitar performance was not as good as I would have liked but I was happy with my vocals and even happier when people joined in, laughed at my attempts at humour and gave me a rousing cheer at the end! I was told it was strictly acoustic and yet everyone else there had little amps. I managed to borrow one from one of the other acts as the on-stage microphones ("they'll pick up everything on stage so you won't need an amp") weren't working and, in any case, I wasn't on the stage as it was being prepared for the choir coming on after me. No photos, probably for the good. I was using my Crafter semi-acoustic 6 string plugged into a small Fender acoustic amp. Edit: Photos have emerged!3 points

As promised, some more pix, including one which shows the bass is heavier than it felt, at 3.9Kg (8lb 9oz). There's absolutely no neck dive on a strap though - everything feels very stable. Tme to get playing - so far, I can say it's very resonant acoustically, but I have yet to explore the (lack of) tonal options. If I'm feeling daring, I might even upload a sound sample when I get a moment.3 points

Postman pat just dropped off a hard to get Broughton locust Star. https://www.broughtonaudio.com/product-page/locust-star Ooofff it's absolute 🔥. I'm one of those that always feel like I need blends with dirt... Nope, it's a perfect sounding and feeling Rat. No low end loss and can even add clear non muddy low. The range knob is where the magic is at, a bit like the sansamp character and Darkglass "Era" knob. Highly recommend2 points

Best bet if you don't want to drill an extra side hole would probably be to use a stacked knob. I would suggest stacking the two volume pots onto one, then having a single tone as normal. If you wanted you could stack both like the old jazz basses, with vol and tone per pup. Othewise, could you drill an extra hole in a 3 hole plate? Or is the spacing too far off?2 points

Two of mine are in bands now, one on bass, the other on guitar. I'm very jealous of the awesome gigs they get to play (Brudenell, Parasido in Amsterdam, Glastonbury, a Marc Riley session), and they're very jealous that my gigs tend to be better paid! One added benefit of having your kids into music is that they help me keep in touch with decent new bands/artists2 points

Fender Mustang MB-SD ‘69 reissue bass with ‘competition stripes’ from 2010 in great condition. Fabulous bass, easy to play shorter scale. Great sounding Nordstrand NM4 pickups. Currently strung with flat wounds but will supply a new set of D’Addario nickel rounds 45/100 with it. Nice action and has a great thump which sounds great in a live setting. It’s also easy on the back for long gigs. Marks are only surround reflections. Complete with Fender gig bag. Collection from Coseley, West Midlands WV14 where you can try through my gear, or will ship UK at agreed buyers expense.2 points

Just back in from a Queenage gig. Barring a couple of little niggles that I'm sure the majority would not even have noticed, it went very well indeed. We're still trying to find the right balance in older material which we like doing and the most popular stuff, but given it was only our third gig, things are looking great. There was a lady there who is a member of the Queen fan club. She said that she has seen A LOT of Queen tributes and thought we were excellent. The venue also gave us a cash bonus as we had such a great turnout. Hopefully a return booking will be had next year. All in all, a great night.2 points

A slight design change. I'd used the handles as designed by the original people. These handles sat on the top of the board and screwed into the v-slots using t-nuts. They also took up valuable space. One of the really nice things about V/T-slot extrusion is they have things like 5mm holes in the end. These holes can be tapped with a M5 tap set, so pulled mine out the garage and tapped eight holes. I can now screw M5 bolts in. The design for the original handles wasn't quite right, so I did them all again so that the handles covered the end of the extrusions properly. It looks very nice from the bottom and from the top Really pleased with this, if anybody is interested, I'll happily make one for the price of the parts and a donation to Andy's BC donation fund Rob2 points
