I am absolutely gutted to be putting this up for sale but needs must. A Pre CBS 1963 Precision which is all original on parts but has a refinish that was done way back in its past in Lake Placid Blue All the pickups, wiring loom, neck, body reverse tuners. Bridge etc are all original. It has a Brazilian rosewood fretboard which Is just dark and lustrous. The truss rod is flush with pocket and set up to perfection (for me) but still turns freely both ways. I have listed this early before obligatory stripping for pictures of neck, pocket, loom etc to judge the interest in it, it is set up perfectly and I’m not going break it down if no one is interested. The tone is rich from this and the pickups are hot, for a passive it pumps out the bass as I’m sure @walshy will chime in and confirm. Something I know I can never replace but real life takes over nostalgia. There is no original Case but it does come with a fitted Fender red label moulded hard shell or I have a brand new fender tweed modern hard case if you would prefer that. It’s strung with old La Bella 760Fs deep talking 45-105 flats and it’s a beast with these on. It comes with the bridge and pick up covers. I will send the serial to anyone that wants to check it, I welcome and do encourage anyone interested in the bass to come and see/try it for themselves. I won’t be posting this, I will hand it over personally. If you want me to take it to bass direct or bass bros for authentication I’m happy to do it at the buyers cost. I approached Will at bass direct earlier this year and he said he would list it at £6,900.11 points

I’ve been mulling over this for a long time as I absolutely LOVE this bass, but it’s time. We’re moving house and the proceeds of this sale will go towards the deposit… This is a fantastic example of a 1966 Jazz Bass, classic transition-era “target” sunburst with dots and binding. Bought from pmjos of this forum in 2018 (original ad here). It’s a dream bass. It’s had a refret with period-correct frets, performed amazingly by Martin Petersen of the Camden Bass Gallery, to ensure that the binding has remained intact and that there’s no damage, cracking, etc. I felt this was necessary as, when I got it I think there may have been a minor hump in the upper fretboard which caused some choking out in the upper frets, and it relieved that issue. The bass plays cleanly on every fret of the register, and I’m a pretty heavy-handed player…Otherwise, the bass is totally original in every other aspect. You can see the details in Phil’s ad, but this is a great-sounding bass and super clean. Since I got it, it’s been scrupulously cared for and has only been out of the house for recording and never gigged, so no additional dings or damage. The pickups sound fantastic, each with their own character when soloed (particularly fantastic classic burp on the bridge pickup!) but with that textbook lively mid/late 60s JB tone when combined. It comes with the original case, and also the original funny little leather strap and registration card. I’ve included some general pics below without taking the thing apart, which I’m always loathe to do, and also some shots of the neck so you can see the quality of the refret. I’m also a pretty lousy photographer, but you can view an excellent shot PowerPoint depicting the more detailed aspects of the bass here. Obviously, it also comes with the pickup and bridge covers/ashtrays, I just don’t have these installed currently as, as most probably know, it makes it a bit more difficult to play the bass. Weight confirmed at 3.977Kg I’m looking for £6750. Just to clarify I would strongly prefer collection and inspection from my home in London NW3. No international shipping! Sorry. I’ll consider UK postage, but only with discussion and careful consideration on courier method to ensure that there’s no possibility of damage during shipping, and this will definitely need to be arranged by the buyer with appropriate insurance. Absolutely no trades on this, unfortunately, as I need the cash. I hope everything’s clear, but happy to answer any and all questions. This is clearly a beautiful piece of bass and Fender history and I’m immensely saddened to have to make the decision to move it on.10 points

Original SVT II 300 watt All valve amplifier. This thing is a beast and the tone is all it should be. A lot of people say this beats the SVT II pro and I have to agree. The Bias is good and I play through it a few times a week so the caps are all good as are the tubes. This model doesn’t come up very often for sale. There is a a wheeled generic Flight Case with it and due to the weight it’s not a shippable item(unless the buyer takes ownership and responsibility for it.) im happy to drive within a 30 mile radius from my home B14 in Birmingham and further for some petrol money.9 points

No idea whether anyone else does this (with their partners). Wife will fire up Gumtree or Marketplace, she'll do a search for bass guitars and will scroll; she'll show me a photo of an advert and ask what the bass is and how much it's on sale for. In most cases I'm correct with the bass, points deducted for a question ('Which country is it made? USA? Mexico? etc.). Typical exchange: 'Fender Jazz Bass Special,' I'll go. '£950.00.' '£900.00,' she'll answer. '£50.00 out. How do you know all this? You really need to stop spending so much time on Basschat.' Lots of fun.6 points

Up for Sale a bass I purchased as a project to renovate, but when I got hold of it it played fine and is in great condition for its age, missing the pickup surrounds (I’m sure someone on here has 3d printed some) It doesn’t come with a hard case, I do have an old soft case It lives in atm. It’s not a light bass around 10 pounds due to the aluminium neck but it does make for a unique tone. If your looking to get your Mick Karn on, this will do it. I’ve looked for these online and most are between £1200 - £1600 albeit with cases. Im selling it for what I payed for it, im not convinced with eBay costings. Happy to drive within 30 miles or more for petrol. Without the hard case I’d rather not post but would trust it to @walshy man with a Van.5 points

My mate bought what he thought was a vintage Les Paul, but he knocked it over and the head didn’t snap off - that’s when he realised it was a fake! 😄4 points

Really nice short scale Japanese Jazz Bass. I imported it myself from new & from what I can see online it was only really available in Australia & Japan. Specs are at https://www.fender.com/en-AU/electric-basses/jazz-bass/made-in-japan-junior-collection-jazz-bass/5682100306.html Not had more than home use & close to new condition - scratchplate still has protective plastic on! Includes gigbag, tags etc. Currently strung with Low Tension La Bella flats, but have the.original rounds to throw in too. Price is cash/collected from Newcastle, but can post (have original box). The new updated has an OC-2 and Meatbox model, nice for bass to get some attention. No experience with a Meatbox, but the OC-2 model is bloody good , compares very, very well with the original '82 I have on the board!3 points

Did anyone take advantage of the plugin black Friday sale? I just wondered if any of the available plugins are worth it for bass? I've already got Rabea and Parallax.3 points

Wife got me a GSS Baby Sumo for my birthday. It's tiny! It's loud! Comes in a lovely little metal flight case. It's barely the size of two paperback books. Just gave it a brief test with my Hamer Cruisebass into a GED2112-DI. (We live in a detached house, neighbours away. Chortle!) Man alive, the clarity is incredible. I've jacked the Ged into a variety of amps and effects returns thereof over the years and it's never sounded like this... it's almost been a disappointment at times. It sounds like when I've just gone straight into a mixing desk. Lovely!2 points

From everything I've seen, Lydon's been an insufferable arse for years, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the other blokes never even gave him a call about the original benefit shows, doubt he'd have been up for anything that didn't benefit him. Throwing his support, little though it may be, behind Trump and Farage really just seals the deal that Lydon needs to be put out to pasture. Frank Carter has always been a great frontman, back in the Gallows days and more recently with the Rattlesnakes, so him smashing it with Pistols isn't a surprise at all.2 points

I've had two, a Dingwall ABZ5 with 37-34 inch scale and an Ibanez with 32-30. I didn't find any tonal advantages at all and as at the time I was playing in a big band with transposing instruments and I needed the low C and F quite a lot I found that quite an annoying stretch over the course of a gig. I'm glad I tried them, but ultimately they are not for me.2 points

Agreed. This sort of thing is nothing new and isn't limited to guitars. A pal of mine is a violin maker. I won't drop his name, but he's highly regarded. He told me there are plenty of name instruments out there that are exactly as you describe - cut and shuts, refins, or originals with some non-original parts, rather than out and out fakes. Virtually all Strads, Guarneris, etc have non-original necks and fingerboards, because the method of constructing and attaching the neck when they were made was different to how it's done now. Back then, the neck was not angled. It has been discovered since that angling the neck, creating a steeper break angle over the bridge, gives more power and a more brilliant tone, so pretty well all of them have been modified. Others have replacement parts, due to the ravages of time, several hundred years of use and even unfortunate accidents. Some have few original parts left. The line between a modified original and a re-creation/'fake' can be pretty blurred.2 points

I would love a Sandberg California VM… but it’s not going to happen unless I do something like sell one of my Wals. And THAT’S ABSOLUTELY NOT going to happen. The Sandberg, if it ever does materialise might look suspiciously like this!2 points

Hey guys, I'm selling a stunning MM V5 5 String passive bass. I purchased this brand new in September 24 for £468, and spent £35 on lighter gage strings. I still have the box so can be packaged up if you want to arrange a courier or I'm based in Swindon for collection. Still in brand new condition, and plays and sounds beautifully. You're very welcome to pop over to try it. Now priced at £320. Thanks Freddie1 point

I've got a load of pedal making parts that I'm looking to offload in a life admin kind of way - Basically just want to devote my time to playing and not getting involved in the DIY side of things as I have enough going on with band stuff, kids/family, house etc. There's a bulk load of the following... Resistors (various wattages including some heavier ones used for building an amp kit years ago) Capacitors (film, electrolytic, mylar and a couple of Sprague Orange Drops) Jacks (Mix of Switchcraft style and a big bag of black plastic Marshall style ones) Diodes including 1N4001 LEDs including some mounts 3PDT footswitches plus a couple other SPDT switches Transistors (including 3 x B175 Germanium and some very nice BC108s ideal for a Fuzz Face I think) Shielded Wire Stripboard Loads of hookup wire Potentiometers (Including some larger ones for guitars/amps) ICs and sockets - Opamps including TL062 and TL072 - Some Burr Brown and some Texas Instruments. 9v Power Sockets Loads of knobs (He he) Heatshrink tubing Signal generator used for testing circuits Holding hands tool for holding PCB/components while soldering Multimeter Micro drill bit Loads more odds and ends like eyelets, turrets for amp making, terminal strip, flat washers, nuts, star washers, standoffs, jewell lamps x2, crocodile clips Most of this stuff is unused but there are a few pots/jacks that have had solder on them . Also includes a non-working EHX Freeze pedal and some Jeds Peds goodies I got from Gardiner Ben from this very parish last year. He was kind enough to give me some stuff gratis so the items I got from him are included in this bundle but for free. Will include a brand new 33 drawer organiser as well. Looking for £100 (including postage which is probably around £20 due to size) for the lot. Any questions please ask. Thanks, James1 point

I think a lot of people imagine men in their sheds creating fakes from scratch, but I think what you write here is a far more truthful picture of what 'fakes' are. I would also guess that a lot of the fake Fenders out there are more likely cut and shuts, refins, or originals with some dodgy parts rather than out and out fakes.1 point

Not gonna lie, I love this bass sooo much! I remember playing it at the London Bass Show and falling in love with it then and there, but sadly my pockets aren't deep enough for even a tuning peg these days. How's it getting on? Still playing beautifully I am sure!1 point

1978, Deni Deni by Blondie in a dark and dingy basement night club on the Isle of Wight. Im 17 and incredibly nervous. Our girl lead singer didnt help either in stockings, heels, and wearing an unbuttoned blokes shirt. She really did think she was Debby Harry! We'd gone straight from the guitarists bedroom to that mush pit and my abiding memory of that night is not being able to hear a thing as I was using the main acts pair of Orange bass bins and had never been on a stage before. Guitarist was to low, vocals and drums to loud and the keys player and myself got horribly lost. What a car crash. Ive never seen a dance floor empty so fast! ...haha. But I think back now of all the different musical experiences I've enjoyed since that first, crazy terrifying night and feel blessed to have a had a life playing bass....Still loving it now.1 point

And a lovely little thing of squelchy gorgeousness it is too. It's in near-mint condition and has some retro-fitted solid oak end cheeks in place of the stock plastic ones, which are very nice. I might treat them to some smooth satin lacquer at some point, or maybe some Danish oil. I've only really gone through the basic bass sounds so far, but already I've found some absolute peaches (and that's before I get anywhere near modifying them). There's one called 'TaurusBass' that has made me very happy indeed Yes they are mini keys, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. If I feel the need to move on (i.e. if I actually learn to play it properly) then I can get something with bigger keys. This will keep me happy for some considerable time though. I might even have a guff about with the vocoder at some point Please don't laugh at my 'training wheels' stickers on the lower keys Like I said, I've never learned to play keys and I need the help for the moment.1 point

Clearly some people will The AI phrases that are always there: "Perfect for any..." "Whether you're a beginner...." "Must-have..." "... sure to impress" I sell on eBay and have never used the AI description generator. I put more effort into the description for my Dremel router table (don't laugh) for £20 than this bloke did for a circa £4K bass. Lets see if it sells Rob1 point

The same paint was "Burgundy Mist" when applied to an Oldsmobile, "Royal Amethyst" on a Pontiac, or "Lido Lavender" on a Buick 😆 It was 1959... I'm pretty sure everything was black and white until shortly before then, so they were only just getting the hang of these new-fangled "colours"1 point

No idea, nor do I care EDIT: That was maybe overly glib, sorry for that - the fact is that I've never owned a Stingray, nor have I played one for any appreciable length of time. Closest I've come is the SBMM SB14 (the original Sterling Sterling) but that was many years ago, honestly I can't remember what it sounded like. I didn't buy the Sire Z7 because I was chasing a Stingray sound - I bought it because I like the look of it, fancied giving it a go on its own merits and I had a positive experience with my D5. I have little doubt that other people's motivations may be different, you'll have to ask someone else about Sire Z/Stingray comparisons, I'm useless for this question!1 point
