I've never bothered because my singing voice is up with the very best of 'em! I could easily win XFactor or Cardiff Singer of the World but want to let everyone else have a chance. Last time I sang in front of an audience they were all so impressed they ran out of the room to tell all their friends and to announce my talent to the whole world!10 points

Here is most of the family. Missing are my Washburn AB34, Stagg Upright and an old Aria fretless. I have five six strings and a Fender pedal steel but they don't count as we all know "It's all about the bass"!9 points

This started a while ago. A guy named "MPU" had built a headless/fretless for himself. He got bored with it, and decided to sell. I happened to see the bass and suggested that he should put frets to it. He did - and I was sold. This bass had VBT which I didn't like. I was considering making the circuitry myself (and got some very interesting ideas from these pages, thank you!), but because of my earlier experience with Mixpot, and a certain urge to get this ready right now, I contacted Mr. Noll. body: cherry neck: alder + CF HW: brass, custom made pickups: side by side humbucking Status singlecoils electronics: vol + Noll Mixpot + 2 band pre & a custom eq pot I did not want to make more holes to the bass. I asked Mr. Noll to use one double pot for B&T tilt adjustment. He actually went much further: the pot has a switch. In normal mode turning the pot CW bass is boosted and treble is cut. Pulling up the pot, both B&T are boosted for smiley eq. 80's, welcome back.8 points

Last night was another concert with my teacher's Young Artists Orchestra, as usual augmented by a few adults in the bass and cello sections since a lot of the kids are too small to play the larger instruments. For some of the easier pieces about 7 of the youngest players aged 5, 6 and 7 joined us on stage for a total more than 35 musicians and as usual it was a great evening with a nice mixture of Christmas songs and the audience of about 300 loved it. Most of the kids started in my teacher's program at age 3 or 4 and so the oldest at 19 are very skilled musicians. For the fourth time my teacher asked me to add to the bass section and this year there were three bassists, two of them play better than I do and they are 9 and 16! I have learned a lot in two and a half years of lessons but these kids are fantastic, the younger one was a prize winning violinist until September when she decided to play bass and she is amazing on it, very smart and very dedicated. I wish I had started with the bow when they did at age 4 instead of 75, I am by far the oldest in the orchestra (78) and get immense pleasure from being a part of the group and as a side benefit my playing has improved and carries over into my jazz and bluegrass gigs. Here's the bass section after the concert.6 points

Seamless plugging of the old port hole - cut out a circle approximately the right size with a different hole saw then JB-welded in place (epoxy being much better at filling the enormous gaps my terrible carpentry left): Looks better after some sanding: Cutting a new bigger hole with a 68mm hole saw. Had to clamp on another bit of ply for support as there was a massive hole just where I wanted to put the drill bit... Massive port for the 6FE100 installed. Hopefully under a load of tuff-cab no-one will ever know I didn't design it this way from the start:5 points

Best purchase for me is this beautiful Fender American Vintage II 60s Precision bass I got for my birthday. Before this I’ve owned a Fodera Monarch 4 Standard and a Lakland 55-94 which are fantastic basses and superb build quality. Would’ve kept both but I can’t justify keeping too many high value basses since I rarely do pub gigs now. This one felt home for me. And I find myself going for a simpler setup. I’ve not even coveted or GASsed on other basses since getting this. I’m months sober on checking out other basses. My goal now is to have this beauty age and just keep playing it. Pedal wise, I’ve not had any bad/worse purchase. It’s more of me wanting to try new gear when I can that’s why you’ll see me post new iterations of my board in the thread lol. I easily move on with board setups and find myself in a rabbit hole of constantly GASsing on different stomp boxes5 points

Yes. I am not a singer. I assumed I could not be taught. No one let me sing in public unless there was a fire. The lessons appeared to have nothing to do with singing at first. But actually they were teaching me about the mechanics of singing. What to do with my throat, my mouth, my diaphragm. In other words the instrument. I have since sung in front of people and no one threw anything. I have sung harmony acapella with three others.5 points

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who have supported the site this year—whether by becoming a Supporting Member or purchasing tokens for the marketplace. Your contributions enable us to keep improving the site, reduce our reliance on advertising, and dedicate time to supporting our community. I mention this now because December typically sees a noticeable drop in revenue, and with the challenges many individuals and businesses are facing right now, I’m especially grateful to those of you who continue to renew your subscriptions. Of course, I also deeply appreciate everyone who visits the site, shares their knowledge, and offers support to others. A site like BC is only as valuable as the knowledge contained within the membership. So, thank you once again. I’ll be taking a bit of a BC break over Christmas and New Year, so I want to wish you all a relaxing, joyful time with your friends, family, and instruments 🎸. Cheers, Ped4 points

Big corporate Christmas Party gig tomorrow night. We're not a Christmas Party band. However who can turn down 2k for a 6:00-8:00. I'm not trying to brag but I don't think I've ever played a 2 hour gig for that kind of money. And it'll be a long time before I see another one. Lol Daryl4 points

I've had a hankering for an 8 string guitar for a while... I saw that Gear4Music had this 'damaged' Schecter C-8 SLS MS Elite Evil Twin up for £899 instead of £1600 due to a small paint crack around the volume pot that happened in delivery from the distributor. I sent them a message and punted an offer of £600, they accepted. So it's a £1600 guitar for £600... Pretty sure having £1000 knocked off the 'new' price for the small paint crack around the volume pot counts as a good deal! The Fishman Fluence pickups and Hipshot hardward are worth that alone. Looking forward to delivery...3 points

Selling my pristine Effectrode compressor LA1A. I’ve had this for maybe two years now, and never used it to compress, just to impart some valve goodness to my sound, but I have amps now that do this function. This has always been boxed, and just unpacked at gigs, and placed on my pedalboard- so no Velcro and zero scuffs or marks. Bought with the standard valves, and these units are £460 new from the site. £350 with delivery included- UK only3 points

I've decided to treat myself to an Electro-Harmonix Big Bass Muff, as the distortion pedals I've tried so far have been a bit on the weedy side. I can't think of anything else I'm likely to want. This week, at least 😉3 points

I've just checked and I've been here 17 years 😲 I'd already had 20 years of music under my belt before joining and now I'm at 37 years and still going strong and I'm only 54 😲3 points

It's happening because Thomann are serving the ad themselves from their servers, not through an image they've supplied for us to upload (which is what Rotosound are doing). I'm talking to them about it and will deactivate the ad while a solution is pending.3 points

Sorry for the lack of updates gents. The decision was made for me, my partner got fed up of me procrastinating about it and she went out and got me a Blackstar Bass Amplug2. It actually sounds pretty great out of the box, does what I need and does the trick for now! Thank you all for your input 🙂3 points

My new set-up. Keeping it simple, small and light. Resigned my TE Elf head to its handbag as a backup. If I fancy a louder Trace Elliot night out, then I'll just hook it up to the 600w Sumo. I'm getting rid of my Peavey Tour 700 beast of a head that I was using as a power amp. Sounds so tight and stupidly loud. Almost a little compressed to my ears. Sumo runs very quiet. A very, very small amount of hiss through it, but not as much as the TE which is super quiet anyway. I haven't tried this with my two TE 110s at 4ohms yet so I'll be interested to see how it sounds at the next gig. Btw - The Sumo came spectacularly well boxed and I love the handy little lunchbox carry-case it comes in, but be warned of the 'additional' import VAT and clearance fee if outside the EU (eg. in the UK). A slight 'ouch' on that one (just over £80). Other than that, very happy.2 points

He played a part in me getting my Monza too, which still knocks my socks off every time I use it, as he tried one at a BassBash a little while back, the one when he convinced you to buy that Trace amp. You think, at the very least he would chip in!2 points

Speaking as that admin, it was 5, I have bumped it down a few for no valid reason, so it shouldn't be a problem, and also any warning points are probably related to people having warning points over here, that are reflected over there, but that doesn't really make sense, as there have been no warnings there etc, so i have removed them where advised of them!2 points

I posted a bass in a semi-rigid gig bag inside a proper bass shipping cardboard box last week for £21 plus £5 for proper insurance with Securesus. Total weight was 12kg and I used Parcelforce 24.2 points

Wouldn't tour without mine. Keeps the basses nice and secure and not difficult to move around. Stairs are slightly tricky but not to the point of annoyance. It's a very small price to pay.2 points

Also saw Bernhoft at the Jazz Cafe this year, solo. Wasn't sure about it as I want to see him with a band so much, but the solo show was incredible and I never felt i missing out! The Stop/Shutup EP is a personal favourite of mine! His bass playing on songs like Streetlights, So Many Faces, Fly Away really gets me going!2 points

I refer the defendant to the case of bass_dinger v Basschat.co.uk This case seemed to establish that a refinish that was a repair, counted as any other repair, and would not result in a Gear Abstinence breach. However, it will be for you to show that it was a repair...2 points

Thanks @nekomatic, it's really helpful to know about these changes. I'm no stranger to risk assessment and, as far as I can tell from a quick skim, we have systems in place where it counts and in other aspects our risk is low. But it's always useful to have the paper work in place just in case someone decides to get nasty.2 points

The fact it’s no longer used for ghost hunting suggests they’ve found the ghost and stopped looking…. More info needed for sure.2 points

I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but an LFSys Monaco would be worth considering, especially if you want clarity. What amp are you going to use with it?2 points

Reviving this to add my love. He's one of my favourite artists, I've seen him several times in several set ups/line ups and every time he's been utterly killer. His Walk With Me live album is easily one my desert island disks. Met him a couple of times at shows too and he seems like a great guy2 points

I know a guy who fronted his own band for 20 years. I thought his voice was OK, but he took singing lessons about 10 years ago, and you can hear the difference every time he steps up to the microphone. His projection is stronger and he hits the notes with more accuracy. Those lessons are paying dividends every gig.2 points

I'm a very strong advocate of people joining a community orchestra/band as soon as they start playing. I did that with cello when I started in 2011 and also sax about little later.2 points

Handbox WB100 through a Barefaced 2x12 Cab OK I've now gigged this at a few different sized venues, I absolutely love this amp, I play it mostly clean, so the volume is cranked right up, and I use the gain control to control the level as advised on here, I was concerned that 120w may not be loud enough on stage, as I play in quite a loud band, I've got to say I don't think I've ever had the volume above 10 o'clock on the gain, the sound of the amp itself is lovely, and have had nothing but compliments on my tone, playing my Japanese Sadowski Metro Express through it. It just sounds great with the EQ just set at 12 o'clock, and adjusting my tone using my bass pre amp. I am a big fan of this amp, and it's now my go-to amp, I always carry a back-up as it's a tube amp, and they can get damaged easily, but I don't let roadies near it, until it's cooled down it doesn't get moved, and I do the moving. Touch wood, I've had no problems so far... Verdict = Fantastic amp, I'm a massive fan 🙂2 points

Well! Hot - branding iron lessons have been learnt Of course I tried a bunch of times...> First go not deep enough (that's what she said) Of course now, raising tension since I had to realign it to try again - not aligning nicely would double print it etc etc... But I HAD TO MOST DEFINITELY BLITZ IT on the 2nd go 😢 The trouble is that the neck has a matt finish so it was different woods to try and sort, however I didn't have a sample of it - in hindsight, maybe the neck pocket would've been good but anyway... However, I've learnt that 90% of problems of my life can be fixed with sanding - and even if not perfect, I've managed to salvage it methinks: Project is FINISHED and Quality Control passed:2 points

I have the natural poplar burl finish, I like it, the bass is probably the best sounding bass I have owned, It is one of those basses you can't stop playing , it feels so good to play, that custom dark glass preamp is really good sounding, perfect with the EMG X P/J pickups. I love it.2 points

Baffle cut out, and some ports added. I had some 40mm drain pipe left over from doing up my kitchen so I wanted to try and use those instead of buying a whole new 2.5m of guttering as used in the micro house jam. I've put the ports in the side rather than in the baffle. This is because I've bought another Faital 6FE100 as well as the Fane 6-100 and I'd like to be able to swap them out to compare. The issue here being that according to WinISD, the Faital needs much longer ports, so they wouldn't fit if I put them in the baffle!2 points

I have a few: Brewdog, because of the owner's attitude. Which is a bit of a shame because the beer's decent. Wetherspoons, because of Timbo's treatment of his staff during the pandemic and because of his support for the B-word. BT, for being the worst employer I've ever experienced. Not so much lions led by donkeys as experts gaslit by sociopaths. On my last day, I nuked my laptop and Blackberry for no other reason than pure spite.2 points
