  1. Cracking gig yesterday. It really rocked out for a Sunday 4pm-7pm slot. It is becoming one of my favourite gigs despite the dull trek to Melton Mowbray on a single carriageway stuck behind an old Landrover that couldn't handle the slightest hill at more than 35mph! Great to hear the words "awesome", "bass" and "player" in the same sentence plus loads of compliments on my sound - including from the landlord who is also a bass player. 😁 The usual Sire > GT-6B > Rumble Footwear were my Solovair boots Even the lager shandy tasted lovely

  2. Continuing the reduction of my long scale bass herd I have for sale a very nice P Bitsa. Built a couple years ago with a lovely gloss finished two-piece ash body fitted with a DiMarzio Split P Pup, a US tort pickguard and @KiOgon loom. The neck is a lovely gloss finished, slim profile, edge bound with MoP block inlays Jazz type neck. It has an aftermarket 3D bridge, “F” logo neck plate with fully working truss rod. I have suitable cartons so shipping at buyers cost is offered. Thanks for looking.

  3. I have never heard of, or knowingly heard, the band in question, but I saw this on Bluesky (that's the one that's like Twitter but less Nazi) and thought it would amuse you lot too:

  5. Hi all. This is my musicman stingray, 3eq. Think it's 2005. Was originally a burgundy colour and resprayed in orange. I had the body fully stripped and refinished in a satin to look like the dart, scratch plate holes filled. All the electronics were reworked and serviced using genuine parts. Red graphite status neck added. All done by my guitar tech. We all know how rare these necks are becoming and this is the only red one I've seen. Looks black most of the time until it catches the light then it's a deep burgundy colour. It hasn't been used at all since the work was done and I find that while it is the exact sound I want, the nut spacing and pickup set back it doesn't suit my playing style. I love to have my hand right up at the neck. I have loads of pics of the work in progress and how it looked before it was stripped. I won't split the body and neck so please don't ask me to. I do not have a hard case so ideally it's collected. But if you want to sort a hardcase I can look into shipping it.

  6. We (Siren) played at Tuckers Grave Inn near Bath for their annual Wassailing Ceremony. Despite the cold the campsite was booked up around a fortnight ago, suggesting it would be a busy night - it didn’t disappoint! We had people dancing to the soundcheck and to every song we played thereafter. I used my Oly White 70’s reissue P Bass for the first set and My Geddy Lee Jazz for the second, used my TT800 through my Barefaced Big Twin 2 G3 - sounded great to my ears! Loads of positive feedback afterwards which is always nice. Next up for me is a gig with Sarum’s Lot at Qudos in Salisbury - one of my favourite venues to play so really looking forward to this one.

  7. My inner magpie wouldn't stop chattering since seeing this... I've wanted a bass with one of these metal flake finishes for years... I'd considered going the custom finish / build route but this ticked all the boxes. Really happy to have a G&L back in the stable. It's a great sounding bass too, loads of sustain and zing. All being well it will be making it to the 2025 North West & Scotland Bass Bash 😀

  9. Hi All, I’m putting out a feeler for my Shuker 4 string Jazz bass. Bought direct from Jon in 2010 as a travel bass when i was commuting to High Wycombe weekly with my job. As you can see it’s green, very green, with cream scratchplate and black hardware - tuners are Hipshot ultralites and the bridge is a Gotoh. Swamp ash body, maple neck and Madagascar Rosewood fretboard. Pickups are Delano noise cancelling. 20 stainless steel jumbo frets. It’s currently fitted with an Aguilar OBP2 and a power switch, but i’m planning to remove this and use elsewhere, so please assume a passive VTT config. Its in virtually as new condition since its only had very light home use. Some minor swirling on the scratchplate is the only marking i can find. It's light and very well balanced as you'd expect - weight added below. Comes complete with a Shuker branded Hiscox LiteFlite. Happy to ship at cost or if you want to come to my home in north Leeds for a cuppa and try it out, you're more than welcome - you'll just have to put up with my taste in biscuits, it's Garibaldis or Shortbread only here (do other types of biscuit even exist?). Feel free to get in touch with any questions. Cheers Pete Edit: I've had some requests for a bit more technical spec Scale length - 34" Nut width - 38mm Weight - a very respectable 8lb 2oz Edit Edit: I hadn't spotted that one of the pics was crap so I've changed that and added an ownership post-it to stop @ped coming after me with a sh*tgun (add vowel as appropriate)!

  10. The scoop for this Friday. I'm concerned be cause The Anodyne only books signed national touring bands so I'm not sure how we got booked to headline there. Second our fan base is out in the sticks. We're not a Milwaukee band. Lastly it's a pay at the door show and that's not our thing either. Instructions from the top: "Hey all! Here's the scoop for Anodyne this Friday: Load in anytime 5pm or after, we'll be there by 4:30 to set the stage. Daryl you can ride with us and I will coordinate with you later in the week. Using all house gear except a few vocal mics and lights, drum kit provided as well, just needs to be brought on stage and mic'd up. There is a loading zone area at the main entrance. All sound checks need to be done before the doors open at 6:30, including the opening act, a duo of 2 vocals, guitar and electric fiddle. Big green room with a beer fridge. I think that covers it😎" Wish me luck. Daryl

  11. Barefaced Super Twin T - £950. This is the version with the tweeter and HF control. Silver cloth grill and included cover which was an extra charge. It cost me £1,595 from Barefaced in August last year so grab a bargain. It's my dream cab but I need to face the fact that it is too big for the stages I play on as my band has a 16 piece horn section so stage space is at a premium. Treated with love and care so in excellent condition with no marks or blemishes. I no longer have the box so this will be collection only from Glasgow. I can meet buyers halfway within a reasonable distance. Potential buyers are welcome to demo in Glasgow. https://barefacedaudio.com/products/super-twin?variant=44166208946456 Specifications Dimensions - (H x W x D)74cm x 48cm x 34cm Weight - Cloth Grill (with tweeter)18kg / 40lbs Broadband Sensitivity 100dB Max Amp Power 1200W RMS Max Output~133dB Frequency Range30Hz-20kHz with tweeter Impedance 4 ohms

  14. Hello! I am selling this as I haven't played bass for a few years. Possibly the best way of controlling a synth with your bass available (although I haven't been plugged into Bass world for a while) Has Imprint system if you want to control through laptop/vst. I used to run a Moog Voyager and SE1x analogue for it for live and recording with my bands which was a lot of fun! Main signal can be blended in also. Has a poly mode I ordered from Steve Chick at IR in 2014 so it's not new. It has been gigged but not abused. They have newer version now I believe -Comes as a complete system with a spare cable - -Warmoth body with Nordstrand pickups, some spare pickups and plectrum transmitter included- -Natural electric J bass sound is quite good, I used it on a few session tracks (it was my only bass). You can use it just as a normal bass too (without the funky cable) -Great super low latency especially with Right Hand compared all the others I tried -Patch selectable -MIDI IN and OUT -Pretty darn RARE and there was a long wait for it, still is I believe a bit of a shonky recording (and bass playing ; p )but you get the 808 esque analogue bass at around 2:40 <above video> and some slow web at 4:30 ish this one has more of an obvious analogue synth sound, chorus riff played straight into se1x (analogue synth Moog Voyager clone ish) by Studio Electronics, the rack synth in video) x,super rough live recording again but you get the idea of tracking and feel here You can find the originals on Spotify although I suppose that doesn't show anything about feel/tracking Jim 07534984735

  15. Bought it, love it, but not really a 'me' bass. I'd love a BC member who's passionate about either Entwistle, The Who, or Status to have this bass, but if not it'll go to a shop on consignment sale (at the £2,500 Basschat price I'm taking a bit of a hit on what it owes me). I'm happy to talk trades/PX but would certainly prefer cash. If the former, I'm looking for a biggie by Mesa; 400, Prodigy/Strategy, Titan etc, but could have arm twisted by other aesthetically pleasing music/audio gear, you know how I roll I won't waste your time with a lengthy description, anyone interested in buying this knows the score. I'd welcome tryouts chez Beedster, and am happy to post worldwide. I'll take some detailed photos over the next couple of days. There's still a minor issue with the switchable mid pot to be resolved but apparently it's an easy fix and I will get that done There's a thread about it that veers off into Cold War bombers Basschat style. As I mentioned, the circuit issues are largely resolved now

  17. Do some digging into his back catalogue, it’ll be a marvellous journey. If I had to name one artist who made me want to play bass, Pino is that guy (Paul Young, Gary Numan, John Mayer, The Who, D’Angelo, Joan Armatrading, NIN, David Gilmour, Don Henley, to name just a few).

  22. Meanwhile, in a little rehearsal hall in deepest Gower last night... Soundman: "Thou hast no top end upon thy bass tone, and your sound distorteth." Franticsmurf: "But I'm going through my Ampeg pre-amp pedal with the treble boost engaged, using the bridge pick-up on my Sterling HH and I have a clean tone dialed in." Soundman: "Nevertheless, thy sound is atrocious and offends my ears." Franticsmurf: "Let me apply my 35 years of experience and wiggle this lead." There follows the sound of a thousand Welsh dragons roaring and gnashing their teeth, amplified tenfold for all to hear. Soundman: "Ha! Thy socket hath demons, and they have been purged from thy instrument. Now thy sound is like nectar and ye may be accepted once more into the mix." A minor niggle of a crackly jack socket and pick-up selector has finally manifested itself as an intermittent problem that will need fixing by someone with better electronics skills than me. My Sterling is off to the doctors. The rest of the rehearsal was great - 1st week back after the New Year and we blew the cobwebs away with a random selection from the back catalogue. As usual with the Hulla band, rehearsals are a mix of frustration (there is a tendency to play a song through and move on without addressing any minor issues), tea (tea is served early on) and a lot of fun (as we don't take ourselves too seriously). The offending bass and minimalist pedal board.

  23. Wee update: I have a Lollar P pickup that I've been meaning to put in for ages but haven't got around to. However, after a recording session over the weekend I'm keeping it stock. It recorded so well with the T.I. flats, really pleased. A great match. If it ain't broke etc...

  24. Well, new used bass day as opposed to new bass day. Picked up for a very good price from Ishibashi Music in Shinjuku, Tokyo during a recent business trip. They had the grey and red in stock and whilst I preferred red, it had a few sizeable dings and paintwork chips and only around £10 price difference, so grey it was. Still very nice though. It's a non-export model, which IMHO, looks nicer and more balanced. The black scratchplate and control plate contrast nicely against binding on the body. Light, heavily contoured basswood body, very slim 70s profile jazz bass neck and a lovely punchy sound. If I was being picky, I'd say the jazz pickup sounds a bit thin - a common criticism - but it adds some bite to the sound. The P pickup sounds lovely and it's nice to finally have a bass I can use for the precision bass sound. Only other complaint is those silly plastic knobs. Will be replacing with chrome domed ones.

  25. First gig for this year (ignoring new years gig going into this year) - light on bookings so far. Playing at a local village pub, not known for music. Found out we needed to move it an hour earlier as they have a noise curfew because of local houses, so 8-11, ok with that, nice to get back earlier, especially as it is 5 mins down the road anyway. We played there once before for a haloween do, in a skittle alley, bad acoustics but good gig, so parked expecting that, but they have a new food area on the side, of the bar (which itself is next to the other bar) so we were there, quite small. easy loadin and setup, not many people, thought this was going to be a paid practice, but we still approach it the same way, these people are paying us. Less volume needed so sound was manageable and pretty good, took my Ric and my old ibanez #1 which had just had new strings. considering no gigs or practices this month first half went really well. The crowd were small, non mobile but appreciative. Had a break, some people left others came in. The second half is less blues, more party so tends to go better, and sure enough, they seemed more up for it the second half. Then we hit 'does your mother know' and loads of women from.. who knows where.. came in dancing, and from there on in it was pretty dancey. towards the end when we had some rock stuff, highway to hell and our ending songs, a load of blokes came in from.. yet another bar I guess, so we ended with Whole lotta love, which always goes down a storm (even though I have no idea why people try to dance to it) - in the end there were quite a load of people dancing in what was quite a small room, so it felt really full. It was a great way to end a quiet month. There was a video someone shared for a change - it was the verse of all right now, and me looking around and checking my pedals!

  26. Great gig at ‘The Brook’ Southampton last night, played there many times, fantastic venue and audience as usual. Never done this before but brought a bass on the way down in Havent, Pompey and decided to use it at the gig two hours later!🤣.Really nice GB Spitfire 5 . Sounded fab but definitely needs some work done to get it up to top notch. Very comfy and light too . Will take it down to Bernie when I get time, being fairly local . 😊x

  27. Hi everyone, Regrettably I'm selling my vintage Fender Mustang 73/74 in amazing condition for its age - this is a one of a kind! The previous owner had it refinished in Firemist gold. It comes with the original Mint Green pickguard and a hard case. It's been professionally setup at Andertons Co. Music worth around £200.00. They did a great job setting the neck, lowering the action and adjusting the intonation. It plays great and sound fantastic - super old school as you'd expect (see video for reference). All electrics and wiring are original except I think a single wire was replaced. All Original hardware. Has been shielded under the gold paint. Darkened rosewood fingerboard. Weight 8.1lbs Short scale size. Collection from Guildford. I have a studio setup in my house where you can plug in and play (-: No trades I'm afraid. Hear it in action -

  32. I bet you all forgot about this, but I didn’t, and the Mystery Box arrived today. A keyring, a sticker, and just one pedal… but it’s the one at the top of my list: the Onward. Happy? Very. It will get its own NPD post once I get home after work and try it out with the Bass VI. 🤓 edit: might not do a NPD post, at least not yet. I did some tests with my active fretless directly in, but suspect I wasn't feeding it enough level. It could use some compression and other stuff in front, so I want it on my board, which will have to wait till the weekend, probably. But it is promising so far, and already stumbled on some fun settings that are very responsive to what I play.

  33. I got exposed to Basschat as I was researching Mark Jones basses - built in England. I starting playing in 1972 when I was just short of 13 years old - and mowed lawns all summer that year to buy a 1972 Fender Precision (Blonde with red tortoise pick guard) and a Bassman 50. I've been through lots of gear since - but still have the 72 P bass. It's an "A" neck (like a jazz bass) and just wonderful. Growing up I played a mix of jazz, rock, blues, pop, and CCM (Contemporary Christian). During high school I toured with a local church in the summers as a "hired gun" (great as a teenager) and met my lovely wife there (she was in the choir - lots of lovely girls). We had a jazz quintet that played about 5 weekend nights a month and it kept me out of the "fast food" jobs my buddies all had. Currently play weekly at our church, in a "Back In Time" band that does 60's rock / pop and a rock/blues/funk band that does a bit of everything. Also play "at" guitar, baritone guitar, and lap steel. Generally I love anything to do with music. My current gear includes my 98 US Lakland 55-94 classic (alder / rosewood), a NYC Sadowsky 5-21 (ash / maple), a German Sadowsky metro 4-string P/J, and both fretted and fretless Furch acoustic bass guitars. My newest love though is my LEH 4-string, built by Ellis Hahn, who ran the Sadowsky NYC shop for years for Roger and built close to 1000 Sadowsky's in their time there. My church gig is IEM's and I use an Eich BassBoard (fabulous if you use IEM's) for silent stage. For the other gigs I use Bergantino stuff - a BAmp + either a 210 or 1-12 or both depending on the gig. I also use a Novation Bass Station II for bass synth stuff when needed. Mark Jones is building me one of his MK2's - as I've never owned a neck-through bass and have been blown away with his artistry and ease of collaboration. I'll share pics in the Jones Bass thread as things progress. Thanks for having such a cool site as Basschat! Jeff

  45. Selling my beautiful fretless Ibanez SRF500 with a semi-hollow spruce body, jatoba and walnut neck, custom AeroSilk Piezo pickup, black fret markers, and white dot inlays and markers on the side of the neck. Battery compartment is accessed at the rear of the body. The chamfered elbow cut on the top of the body provides both playing comfort (the width of the cut meets various demands of elbow positioning) and an elegantly classic appearance. The contoured deep neck joint provides easy access to even the highest frets and the extended fretboard on the lower register can be used as a finger rest. Colour is natural Brown Burst, and the strings are the original factory fitted D'Addario 45-100 flats. Just a few minor dings as in the photos and comes with a TGI gig bag. It sounds as glorious as it looks and is very versatile, from a deep acoustic woody double bass to the classic electric fretless sound.. there's plenty of vids on Youtube showing the versatility of this instrument. Bought a few years ago on a whim simply because I fancied a fretless and this one looked so fabulous. These retail new for well over £600. Cheers for looking, any q's please ask - PG

  46. First gig with the first wave ska band the Long Shots supporting ska punk band Rudebeard. Pretty decent turn out considering the trains were off after the storm. We played pretty well for a debut, lots of really positive comments. Played my Warwick star bass fretless through the rattly house peavey combo, but the sound guy did a great job. This was my first proper gig for over 12 years so pleased it went so well.

  47. Had a spare Pedaltrain PB-3 riser and put together this basic board for tomorrow. Love the Fliptop so much it’s my core tone and always on. The Studio One refines it further and just makes it smooth and silky as how I would describe it. Only thing is that it takes time to tweak and find the sweet spot and settings of this thing

  48. Stunning sr1200 with a gloss figured top, plays beautifully (ramp not included). Its actually my main bass, but you know how GAS is! It’s in great condition but not pristine, I gig it every weekend, there’s small chip on the back of the headstock a minor dent on the front that’s very hard to picture and wear to the rear, (more pics to follow.) Collected from Cheltenham or close meet. I’ve owned over 300 basses and this THE best, I just have a serious case of GAS! The fancy Ibanez case is included. £600 or Ono for a quick sale) It also has a hip shot, (silver) I can remove to reduce the cost by £50. I still have the original gold tuner.
