  2. PRICE DROP TO £1800 It pains me to sell this bass, but my wife gave me a Dingwall for Christmas and I cannot justify having four basses in the house! This bass was built by Xaver Tremel in Bavaria. I already have two of his basses, and I like his work so much I changed my Basschat handle to reflect this! This is his take on the classic J bass and was finished in March 2023. I bought it new just before Christmas, so it's in absolutely mint condition. The specs are as follows: European Alder Body Opal Green pearl lacquer finish 3-piece European Maple bolt-on neck with carbon fibre reinforcement 34.5" scale Smoked Eucalyptus Fretboard 10"-16" Compound Fingerboard Radius Maple Headstock Schaller Light Machine Heads ETS TuningFork 3D String-Thru-Body Bridge 19mm String Spacing Black Hardware Dunlop Straploks 2x Häussel JB Side by Side Pickups Glockenklang 2 band EQ Volume with push-pull active/passive, blend, bass, treble and a passive tone control Weight: 3.8 kg /8.5lbs Strung with a new set of Newtone round core Platinum nickels through the body, it has a very lively, crisp and clear tone. It's super light, so absolutely no shoulder fatigue or neck dive. In taking the pictures I have noticed there is a slight finish flaw under the B string by the bridge plate, but it seems stable enough. Close up photo added to show this. The bass will comes in the original hard case, and the price includes insured shipping in the mainland UK. Thanks for looking You can see the finish blem under the B string in this picture.

  3. Hi, For sale is my Ernie Ball USA Music Man Sterling 4H in Black Sparkle with Black Perloid pick guard, Rosewood fretboard and matching headstock. Manufactured Oct 2000 complete with original hardcase. Serial F03187. This is a USA made Music Man, not the confusingly named, cheaper Sterling by Music Man range. 3.84Kgs It is in good condition for a 25 year old bass and looks stunning with only a few marks and knocks that I have done my best to highlight. Some tarnishing to the chrome hardware, hardcase has a few scratches and marks but mechanically sound. Plays superbly. In my opinion, the EBMM Sterlings are so much more playable than Stingrays, lighter and more comfortable but still with the unmistakable MM growl on tap with the 3 band eq. You can hear it being played live in 2011 here https://youtu.be/RFf86DB0Cwg?si=Hu1x1bxPeQoD8tLo&t=75 I've owned it since around 2008 and gigged with it until around 2013, since when it has sat in the case, only coming out occasionally. Moving it on as I'm having a Spring clean and have too many MMs! *PRICE DROP* £1200 £1100 collected. No trades, collection from Barnet EN4 or I am able to ship within the UK by insured courier for an additional £50. You are very welcome to come and view/try. Any questions, please ask. Thanks for looking.

  4. This is a lovely fretless, in many ways I prefer it to the Stingray fretless I once had. Unfortunately after a side project collapsed it’s just not getting any use - not much call for a fretless in Glam Rock. It’s one of the later gen 1 models; I’m aware the early ones could suffer from preamp amp and fret issues. However as it’s a fretless the latter is sorted and the pre has been replaced by an East J retro 01 deluxe so it sounds massive. The fretless board is a lovely piece of ebony. Very light weight at about 7.5lb but well balanced. It’s in mint condition and comes with black and tortoise shell pickguards; also gets the great Sadowsky semi rigid case and strap locks/candy. I’m aware these can be picked up cheaper but the East pre is £200 on its own; I don’t have the original pre. Currently strung with Thomastik flats. I’ll post some additional pics when there’s some light and I get the chance. I’d prefer collect but will post at cost if necessary.

  6. My vintage modified Jag, further modified by our own @Andyjr1515. It belonged to a close friend of mine, Jack, who won it at a Bash Bash. His daughter generously let me keep it. Andy stripped the original painted finish. He then put a burl veneer and a CF scratch-plate on. It has Duncan Design pups and half-rounds. It makes a wonderful sound. AJR Guitar Modifications - Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Check his website (above) for before and after photos and for some of his other work. PS: This was owned from new by Andy. He kindly donated it as a raffle prize for the East Mids Bass Bash one year. The previous year he donated an acoustic bass to the raffle. It's worth mentioning because he's such a helpful and friendly chap too.

  11. Fender CS '57 Precision Bass Fender Limited Ed. journeyman ’57 precision from 2017, which features an all rosewood neck! I think the finish is called "wide fade chocolate sunburst". It’s a wonderful instrument. Playability is very good with a low action, and the sound is one of the best I’ve heard from a P; very alive… deep and clear with a good roarr with the tone open, and warm and deep with definition when the tone is closed. And anything in between. Weight is just 4kg with the covers mounted! The bass will be sold with Fender rounds mounted. The bass is all original, in very good condition (apart from factory relicing of course) and comes with certificate, ohsc and other case candy as pictured. I really love the sound of this bass, but the neck is to big for me to be comfortable for a longer session of playing. New price €2950 I prefer straight sale, but you can always try me with (partial) trades. I'm interested in bass and guitar stuff. Per example: Modulus 34" quantum or earlier Flea, rickenbacker 4001, Music Man Stingray Pre-EB (not too heavy, natural or mocha preferred), usa EBMM sterling model... Othwerwise a strat/jazzmaster or other offset, Epiphone sj200 acoustic guitar, a small tube amp for guitar. Maybe even a refinished 60s Fender jazz bass (<='66 dots and binding). I've got more basses that I could add in a trade if needed.

  12. A couple of years ago I bought a Hamer Cruisebass; it was a second year run and came without a scratchplate...always wanted a scratchplated one. Had a short dialogue with Tim at Gig.Ink, got a scan if a plate from a chap in the USA and got one cut. Arrived today. Before and after vanity shots below. I am so happy.

  13. Fender American Professional Precision Bass 5-String in 3 colour sunburst. The instrument is in near excellent condition except for the small dings on the back of the neck as show in the photo (the bass fell off it’s guitar stand) which happened before i got it. Otherwise there are no other marks to the body, paintwork etc. This bass was never been gigged by the previous owner - (home studio use only) and has been propelooked after by me and only used for recording. It plays and sounds incredible. There is one peculiarity to it though - it was factory installed with the Jazz name on the headstock (not Precision). It is my understanding that the necks on both this and the Jazz 5 string are the same dimensions though. The neck is thinner than you would expect, which makes it a really lovely and easy bass to play - not overwhelming at all for a 5 string instrument. Comes with original Fender hard case and ‘case candy’. Unfortunately, some health issues are prompting me to re-evaluate and sell some music equipment. Not really sure on price, but if you're really interested let me know and hit me with an offer. I'm not really looking for trades as I am hoping to free up some cash, but may be open to trades with cash coming my way as part of the deal.

  14. Loved these - they were a bit out of my price range in the late 90’s…a Washburn XB100 was my “posh bass” (how little I knew). Anyhow. 10 years ago - had a black one. Sold it because it wasn’t a silver sparkly one. And after missing out on 2 over the last decade… In need of a new pickguard really…but it’s functional…for now

  15. Started life as a second hand Squier CV 5 string (natural finish). Lockdown respray, fender high mass bridge, gotoh machines, pearloid scratch plate and a set of Wilkinson replacement pickups later......

  16. Well, combined effects really, when I was young drugs made my playing absolutely fantastic, I mean it sounded brilliant, it was so good. Sadly it also made all local tape recorders malfunction so listening back to recordings made at the time made me sound like I was playing really badly! I mean, I know I wasn't, it sounded great to me, so I don't know what was going on there.

  21. Many thanks for the responses! I've been pondering my options and based on some of the comments decided to buy a Ray 24 which seems to have a recreation of the 2 band pre-amp from a Stingray from the early 1980s. After changing the strings on my regular bass this evening for a set of stainless steel Rotosounds I think that also plays a big part in capturing the sound I'm after along with a modulation effect. I experimented with a bunch of effects, and came closest with my ancient Frontline rack mounted thing. The modulation offers either chorus or flanger and seems to be a clone of Boss circuitry. With careful tweaking of the manual and feedback controls on the flanger setting I got really close to what I'm looking for even on my passive bass.

  25. My Squier Mike Dirnt. In best ebay classifieds tradition, it's 100% original. Apart from the refinish. And the extra pickup. And the scratchplate. And the Hipshot D-tuner.

  26. Just reminiscing. There were some crackers weren't there. I remember visiting the Bass Centre in Wapping numerous times and seeing Steinbergers, Status's and Wals. I bought a lovely Wal Pro 2E Cherry second-hand for I think... 300 quid. If I had a time machine and some funds I'd go back and get a Status S2000 in black weave preferably with the script font on the brass bridge plate. I love the look of early Status basses. All shiny and new. We were spoiled.

  27. G&L M2000 in Sunburst Lovely playing bass in excellent condition (see pics). This is a bit different to a standard M2000 (only a little!)... I purchased it last year from here, with one pickup, and a basic passive wiring harness. I got it up and running with one pickup and a new preamp - A 3eq bass preamp from AnalogueWorkshop; https://analogworkshop.eu/products/3eq-bass-preamp-miniature-version/ Which sounds great. I was going to get a scratchplate made for it, but ended up plumping for a new, genuine G&L pickup to fill the empty pickup slot as the bass sounds and plays so nicely... however, whilst this is fitted it's not wired in. Unfortunately, some health issues are prompting me to re-evaluate and sell some music equipment. Bit of a tricky one to price, but if you're really interested let me know and hit me with an offer. I'm not really looking for trades as I am hoping to free up some cash, but may be open to trades with cash coming my way as part of the deal.

  32. This thread got me thinking, and I ended up taking said bass to a luthier who did a sterling fret job and setup, including lowering the nut. The combined price of the bass and work is £300 and what I have now is an instrument that plays as well as my other very expensive basses. I no longer hate it. All is forgiven.

  35. Jings not having a good start to 2025. Our gig next week cancelled due to only half the tickets sold. Was sold out the same venue last summer. Time of year maybe ? who knows. Then we get told our March gig in Arbroath is possibly cancelled. Again we sold out there last time. Committee in the club think the fee is too high. They asked us to half our fee. We said no. Arbroath for me is a 2.5hr drive and 110 miles each way. The club committee have gone thru several changes end last year and apparently there's a lot of bitterness. Several shows in the club have been cancelled at short notice recently. We decided the Xmas gig we had booked there this year was now at risk and decided to take another booking. We decided to clear the year at this venue and if they decided to have us back they can get in touch. Next gig is in March, that's 2.5 mths since last gig. Not so good. Band are looking at other avenues for getting gigs. Dave

  37. The licenced ones are slightly heavier than the USA ones. The main difference is that the licenced ones are not reversible, unlike the USA ones. So if you're confident you won't ever need this feature, then crack on and save some money (and still lots of grams off your headstock) and go for the licenced tuners, they're still top notch.

  38. Another day, another NBD! First, a bit of back story... I'm Paul, and I'm a GASoholic. I've been playing for around 22 years now, and in this time can only think of two times I've truly been happy with a bass... First was an Aerodyne P around '07, which I let go for peanuts as I was convinced I needed a jazz bass in '16, and second was an EBMM Sterling 5 which developed a faulty pickup, but PMT would only refund (both pictured below) Other than this I've had premium, budget, mid range, headless, short scale, fan fret, four string, five strings from Ibanez, Yamaha, Rickenbacker, LTD, Spector, SBMM, Nordstrand, Sire, Squier, Sandberg, Fender, Charvel, Harley Benton... you name it! Every time, I find something I'm not fussed on, and either move on at a loss, or modify past the point of no return - whether it be neck profile, knob placement, active pickups, inherent mid scoop, perceived low end loss or ergonomic issues and so forth... Most recently it's been a Sire Z7 which I was convinced would push me through the mix, but I struggle with the weight and preamp and the cycle resumes... After weighing up my options I decided I'd like to try a P, but that it was time to grow up and a Sunburt P would be the way to go... no luck in the local stores (as usual) but then I spotted Greeneking's P on the FS section... After a couple of messages and an impulsive post xmas cross country drive, I arrived at Peter's house raring to give it a try. It didn't take long to decide it was for me, and off I went 1 bass heavier... And here she is! A fender Player II P... nothing fancy, and couldn't be any more opposite to the basses I've had in the past (P's are so boring, right?) But it totally clicked, and I'm in love! It plays like a dream, the neck isn't as fat as I remember Ps being, and it's light but it still roars and has that P weight to the sound. Ive played this bass EVERY night since I got it, (often into the early hours before remembering I have work tomorrow 😬). It's just so good in every way! I had a Mex Fender P back in 2010 and it was a DOG and put me off both Ps and Fender, but I've gigged this now around 6 times and each time I've been so excited to play it... For now at least, it feels like a forever bass! If you made it this far... thanks for reading!

  41. My eldest daughter, a very straight and respectable history teacher was appalled to find out that she was conceived whilst my wife and I were on mushrooms! 🙃 Our only defence was that it was the 90s, and pre-internet, so there wasn't much else to do! 😉 Even now, every October I get tempted to go out mushrooming, but so far I haven't succumbed. Maybe when I've retired and have less places to go and things to do...

  43. I saw the title of this thread and dreaded opening it, as I understood Bruce had had some health issues recently. Great bassist, one of my main inspirations to play bass, and a nice chap too - only met him the once, which was a real "we`re not worthy" moment for me, he could clearly see it and put me at ease, asking my opinions of the stage/sound/lighting etc of where we were playing.
