I have been buying these basses whenever they’ve showed up. Have travelled across the country to collect - but as I predominantly use an old Gibson; they’re not seeing much use. My Silver Sparkle has some minor issues; the edging tape is affixed but some Gaps and I’ve replaced the strap button at the heel. The pickguard (Masonite) was broken, so I had a luthier make a plastic replacement - the broken original will be included in the sale for the sake of completenes. £500 Commie Red - fully factory - it is wearing a more modern all metal bridge - but I’ll switch back to the original as the all metal is not any upgrade at all. £550 Black Sparkle - fully factory, has a mark on the rear of the headstock. Wearing black nylon flats, I can switch to rounds if needed. £550 All finishes are immaculate, commie red shows finger marks easier than the sparkle finishes. I’m sort of looking for a fallback for my Ripper, so something Gibson 34” ish (no short scales) might work. No cases so shipping is at buyers risk. £20 in UK - would have to get some boxes together…but happy to do it. Collection welcome.10 points

There are people on here I know and trust with whom a bank transfer is no problem at all. There are other people I don't know so I check their feedback thread, and given the place that Basschat is, there's a fairly good chance that several members have dealt with them successfully, which is reassuring. In other cases, if I'm buying blind so to speak, I'd need an extra layer of security provided by PayPal, in which case I pay the small % transaction fee so the buyer gets the total amount. When a seller I don't know or doesn't have feedback says "I don't accept PayPal, it's bank transfer or nothing", it tends to be the latter8 points

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted a board shot. Been through a lot of chopping and changing and, as you can see, have been on a preamp exploration of late. At some point I need to re-integrate my Morningstar loop switcher and MIDI controller. The chaotic, unfinished and disconnected nature of this is pretty much a reflection of the state of my brain at the moment. Also looks like I need some more cables and a power supply expansion.8 points

so a few years ago I just had a HX stomp, sold it and went into the individual pedals world, finding out what suits, what doesn't ... and then maybe admitting some kind of defeat by buying a HX stomp again, but finding out I've learned so much along the process that I'm using it completely differently .... So big changes with and the plan is not to fiddle too much bar a few wee things I need to sort ... it also is I think the first time I've spent ages working out a layout that works well for ergonomically. Complete overkill too - but fun. And sometimes thats the point. Signal chain. Sonic Research - Turbo Tuner - Christmas present from my daughters fancier than I need, but does let me do fairly good setups so there's that. The iron man - My version of the SS/BS mini - it's fantastic clear sounding JFet drive. It's my kind of sound. It has a C1M pot for bass so a bit more low end than the schematic you see online, and the J201 ldss values you would use in a Barbershop... Valeton - OC-10 - It's a tiny OC2 clone, with the mod of disconnecting the -2 portion for more gain. It sounds like a smooth OC2 and tracks down to low D. The first octave I've tried that made me 'get' octaves. Broughton Omnicomp - You can keep your cali76's and whatever... my thing was always going to be optical compression, and this is one of the best. (IMO, @jimbobothy may disagree... ) It sounds better than good and just works. Normally always on. HX Stomp - I caved and went back. I had had a L4 preamp doing amp sounds in analogue world - but the bottom end was a bit uncontrolled. This gives me control. And scratches the itch of "ooh but I'ld like to try a rat with a clean blend and a flanger on the clean"or whatever. Set to change patches on the H9 via midi if I want and accepts Expression CC and tap tempo. LOOP 1.1 - Aoteaora Intermodulator - my tiny version of a prunes and custard - it's amazing. Quite often with distortions I find they take over your sound in a big fuzzy or velcoy mess, this wave folder is so touch responsive and just sounds musical and synth. I need to finish the others I'm making , sorry @lee650, this made it on my board before I posted you yours! You can see why I kinda needed a small pedal! I'm not allowed a bigger board. It was going to be before the stomp - till I realised the fun of sticking tremolo into it. LOOP 1.2 - PastFX PF-101 a moog MF101 clone. Turns out I like a moogerfooger envelope way more than a mutron style. And I like this, like the Aoteaora it feels musical to me, and usable in subtle ways. LOOP 2.1 - Providence Anadime Bass Chorus - I've got a few digital versions for chorus here, both sound good. None touch the Anadime. Bought off @admiralchew I think so I could shoot it out against the Tech21 bass boost chorus. There was only one winner - again sweet and musical sounding. LOOP 2.2 - Eventide H9 - It does a lot, the things it does well it does very well, and interfaces with the HX better than it did on it's own. The hot switch will be in an enclosure bottom right once I get around to it. Theres a wee home made patchbay underneath to patch out the expression and hotswitch. JHS colourbox v2 - Always on and the reason I ended up trying the individual pedals thing, sound great, transformer sound, Janek, @krispn and I can't all be wrong right? I use it as a low gain warm DI thing. It does fuzzy, which is normally pretty rubbish but can be nice clipping the tops of signal. The HPF is set a bit high for bass which means it gets a lot of Talkbass hate from the kinda folk who judge pedals based on printed specs, but dont let it put you off, but I'm probably never going to use Metal guitar amps on the stomp either but that doesn't mean it isn't a good tool for bass players... Now to learn to use this all together. At the moment I'm enjoying the ease of getting sounds -the stuff that's easier analogue is analogue, and the control is digital - it seems a simpler workflow. Challenge is to not change it again. Bar the hot switch and... I think the HX needs more current. So either a Cioks crux or 4 thingy or I daisy chain more other the individual pedals together.8 points

Hi, Interesting looking cab. Much too much for my requirements but I am sure it will be perfect for someone. None of my business I know but I think you might get more interest, if you give some details of the spec: dimensions, weight, power handling, impedance, etc. I couldn’t find much through a Google search and the Tricky Audio FB page isn’t any help. I'm always struggling with my interest in pedals and me not wanting to take a big pedalboard... I am very happy with this new pedalboard because it covers all of the projects I play in. The layout might be a little weird, but I think it is the best I could make. Line 6 Relay G10s-->Boss TU-3w-->HX Stomp-->Walrus Canvas DI. All powered by Cioks Sol. I wanted to put the tuner on the left because I always fear that the wireless go crazy (never happened, but better be ready) so I can plug a cable straight to the tuner. I use an external tuner, even though I really like the tuner in the HX, just because I like to have a pedal that mutes not being the HX (in case something happens to the HX). I could have bought a cheaper tuner, but I like the Boss's switch I have to say. I will include my Disaster Area Midi Baby 3 when I need to switch presets or when I need more footswitches. I will just turn the DI 45 degrees and put the Baby 3. The board is a D'addario XPND so no problem. I have no problem with the G10sII. However, I got a Fender Telepath that works incredibly good and it works in 5.8 Hz instead of 2.4Hz. I prefer the format of the G10s, but it takes some room. In the future I will probably switch to the famous Shure, so that I can replace also the tuner, but so far so good.6 points

I ignore any part of a review which refers to setup out of the box - it's utterly irrelevant. If you go through life expecting every bass you receive to be set up to your exact liking, especially at the price points being discussed here, you're going to be disappointed - a lot. Either learn how to set up your instruments, or stop being a cheapskate and operate within the price points where you would expect this kind of service/attention to detail. I suspect it's used in reviews as a cheap shot just so they can have something negative to say about otherwise perfectly serviceable instruments.5 points

I appear to have just joined a Stranglers "Tribute" band.... I was a bit indifferent to the idea initially tbh. I'm aware of them but just the odd song on compilation albums or playlists, but then I started trying to learn the lines. It's given me a whole new appreciation for them and JJ. Are there any decent tutorial/score resources out there for the bass lines? I'm not terribly good with ear learning from record and I like to have something to read along to as I go, in the early stages a least.5 points

Ovation Magnum II, players grade, a few chips and scratches but all solid, plenty of fret life left, MEC (Warwick) active preamp fitted, 9v. Old worn Ovation preamp included. Generic wooden case included. It’s a shame it’s not getting played and I’m not into collecting. Buyer collects or could meet up for fuel?5 points

It was my third jam/rehearsal with a new line up last night. The Hulla band is still going strong but only do about 6-8 gigs a year and I want to play a bit more frequently. So I answered an ad at the beginning of Feb to join a local band and got the slot. The line up is drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and me on bass. We're all getting on well (a prime requisite for me) and we're all keen to avoid the standard pub set list as much as is possible given that we'll be out to entertain others. All three sing rather well (and I can sing a few simple songs) so the potential for vocal harmony is quite exciting. Last night we picked songs at random from the list we'd compiled in the previous two jams and it was sounding pretty good. We practice in a room at the drummer's house and it's all through headphones (the drummer is using an electric kit), which is a great way to get the work done in a relaxed environment (there are cups of tea on hand 😀) and at an ear-friendly volume. It also means that we can record at the push of a button and get a decent record of the evening's work. As the room is relatively small, I'm using my Ibanez SHB1000s into my Ampeg pre-amp/DI pedal which is sounding great. I can see a new small pedal board being created as the songs develop and I nail down the sounds I want for each song.5 points

I just found this on Facebook. . . . I know a little something that so many do not appreciate about Donald, but that those of us who worked with him in the financial services game have known for many decades—LONG before he ever made a run at politics. His stated motives rarely reveal his true agenda. His showmanship and charisma bedazzles the uninformed, which is exactly how he likes it. He never signed a contract or met an agreement he wouldn’t violate or wriggle out of if it suited his hidden agenda. He never met an investor whose purse he didn’t consider his own in some strategic way. And he never met a human being he wouldn’t screw in order to advance or satisfy himself. If you want to understand his beef with Panama, don’t look at the canal to which he now points. Look at Trump enterprises and their fraught financial and criminal relationship with Panama, and look to the Russian oligarchs who bought condos in his Panama Tower. If you want to understand his fixation with Gaza, don’t look at the Palestinian or Israeli people; look at the real estate value he now perceives that Gaza holds, and he’d like to unlock. If you want to understand his insane, obsessive beef with energy renewable windmills, don’t look at the wind energy aspect; look at his beef with Scotland over his golf course and the nearby windmills that damaged his idea of its aesthetics. If you want to understand his irrational hatred of Obama, don’t look at the policies of the Obama administration; look to the annual press corp dinner where Obama poked fun at him and bruised his ego. If you want to understand his demonization of Democrats, look not to Democratic social policy, but to the fact they didn’t want him to run under color of their party. If you want to understand his hatred of “immigrants” don’t look to the actual contributions and challenges related to immigration, but to his own germophobia and personal disgust for all things “dirty and brown.” What he does SO masterfully, as many sociopaths do, is figure out how to align, however temporarily, his own personal agenda with the drives of those he can then USE to help him execute it. And the GOP fell right in line with that abusive strategy. The GOP now looks much like a battered wife who would LOVE to quit Trump, but who also knows their financial security, personal comfort, and social status would collapse if they ran away. And they fear they won’t get much sympathy or support from the people who tried to warn them not to marry the dude—a serial, liar, cheater, thief, sadist, and a generally Bad Person. Many of the GOP politicians today are busily masking their own abuse from the general public; at some point, however, as they watch their power continue to erode, their reputations get smashed, and themselves get blamed for the extensive abuse they now suffer, something’s gonna give. I don’t know what it is, but every bone in my body FEELS an energetic convergence heading toward a massive, MASSIVE explosion—coming soon. Author ~ Eilene Workman5 points

Although my playing isn't great, JJ's tone is achievable (within reason), with a little bit of tweaking, probably good enough in a live situation? The bass has been removed from all these backing tracks, so what you hear is my take on the bass line. Therein lies the dilemma... I personally don't accept 'regular' Paypal even if the buyer is offering to pay the fees because the payment can be reversed by Paypal to the buyer. This isn't hypothetical for me; I sold a couple of items some years back and in one instance the buyer said the item was broken/dead and Paypal refunded without me having the option to dispute. In that instance I received the item back... and it was the same model but a different item (I had the serial number), sadly Paypal would hear none of it and I was stiffed. On this group I have feedback and a decent reputation so if a buyer didn't want to collect and wouldn't do a bank transfer then that's the deal ended but no hard feelings!3 points

I recently made a purchase on here via bank transfer, everything went as smoothly as I'd expected. I've had no problems whatsoever with any transactions with fellow BCer's over my 14 years on board. Though I have read about some despicable goings on that have happened to others. I think all you can do is check sellers/buyers feedback and go with your gut feelings.3 points
-
This indeed. I rarely accept standard PayPal. And if so, I must be sure that the buyer won't be screwing me. So they need to have tracable feedback, and probably do a video call or something. But mostly buyers understand why I don't want to use the standard PayPal. In that case I offer to send them enough evidence for their assurance.3 points

An absolute behemoth of a bass head and pretty rare on the market these days. Picked it up off here off @Bunion and it’s an absolute beast. Huge range of sound and power options, it’s just a killer head. Also not stupidly heavy. I have no real need for it atm, I’ve 4 SVT’s and a Hiwatt so I’m pretty covered in the tube amp department. Comes with a lovely Mesa cover too. I actually gigged it last night with the Barefaced 610 and it was lovely. U. K. courier postage is possible but collection most welcome. I’d rather that tbh. ** any other amps or cabs in the pics are obviously not included ** Mesa link below for more in depth info. https://legacy.mesaboogie.com/amplifiers/bass/prodigy--strategy-tube-bass-amp-series/bass-strategy-eight-88/metal-chassis-head.html2 points

The Great Retirement Clearout continues and now we’re down to the penultimate listing… This is a 2012 Fender FSR American Standard Jazz bass. It’s a limited edition of 150 worldwide, of which 50 came to the UK. The first 50 were signed by Jeff Allen, the head of production at the US factory, and this is number 41. It’s hand-stained with a wine red stain and came originally with a black pickguard which I’ve replaced with a vintage white pearl PG (original Fender spare part). The original black one is included along with the Fender-branded TSA hard case and all the original case candy (Allen wrenches, swing tags, polishing cloth, manual, set up guide and, for some reason, a photocopied manual in Spanish). I bought this new in 2012 and gigged it regularly until I hung up my gigging boots for good in 2023. As a result, there are a few small dings here and there and a general patina of use but nothing major - it just looks like what it is, a well-used Jazz bass. I’ve tried to show the marks in the pictures but please PM if you want better pictures of specific areas. Like most of us here, GAS has meant I’ve had loads of basses over the years which got plenty of stage time but this is the one I kept coming back to. It’s got a lovely fat sound when you want it or you can get it to growl like a good Jazz should. Used Jazzes seem to go for about this price but the finish (and signature) makes this one stand out. Feel free to ask any questions or for more pics/ sound samples. I really would prefer not to ship this so please PM to either come round and try it out or discuss meet-up options. Thanks for looking. And now, a few pics…. (edit: forgot the proof of ownership thing. Water-marked pics now added)2 points

Doing that thing you do where you get bored of looking at a bass you're not really playing so the only option is to sell it 😂 An MTD Kingston Artist 5, think it's the mort basic Kingston they did, but has all the design features of the rest of the range. Fantastic asymmetric neck, really shallow and wide if that's your bag. Single big humbucker does a good job and the Zoot preamp (added by previous owner @GBH) gives a bit more range than stock I iamgine. Also has the Buzz Feiten tuning system which is cool to have. The pickguard is actually white, just has black vinyl tape on it, but it's been there for years and hasn't shifted. Bass is generally good condition with a couple of scrapes, nothing major though! Specs as best as I can relay below: Scale: 35" String Spacing: 19mm Electronics: Zoot 2 band (Vol Bass Treble) Weight:4kg Not got a box (yet) but working on it so happy to post. Any questions, fire away!2 points

I've done it! I used the D'Addario set with a .145 B on my BBP35. I'm completely converted. The B is a revelation, it's huge. The E is lovely too. I wound the P pickup back a bit to give the string some room and it sounds so clear. Brilliant. Very happy.2 points

Of course, JJ's bass sound on the early albums was allegedly attributed to him using a cab where one of the speakers had a ripped cone but he hadn't realised until later. His trademark tone had pretty much disappeared by the Raven album and not long after that he'd moved from a Precision to a BB2000, further softening the aggressive edge. Perhaps he recaptured the original sound a little after moving to Shuker basses? In my live playing days in the early 80s, although we weren't a "tribute" band, we were heavily influence by the Stranglers and we did play quite a few of their tracks as part of the set, always ending with the epic Down in the Sewer. In those days learning a song involved setting the counter on a cassette deck and endlessly playing/rewinding a small section until something resembling the original part could be achieved. Either that or endlessly lifting and dropping the arm on a turntable with the frustrating inaccuracy that involves. More recently, just for fun, I've decided to try and relearn a few songs and although I've not managed to nail any yet, I have worked out a way which makes it much easier than BITD. Firstly, I import the track into Logic Pro (V11) and use the stem splitter to separate the bass from the rest of the track. Then I 'remix' it with the bass at a higher level and open the result in "Transcribe" by Seventh String Software. The way that allows you to loop sections and slow down the track without changing the pitch make it much easier to isolate and learn the parts and is light years ahead of the way we used to do it BITD.2 points

"It doesn't fit my playing style so it is faulty!" The first thing after buying a bass is I change strings to my preference (and clean the fretboard). Then I check bridge adjustments (height, tuning, width). I play the bass one week and adjust truss rod, if necessary, and if there's one. Cost: some time, and a string set.2 points

This German Warwick built in 2000 Infinity NT is is in showroom condition. The Warwick Infinity NT stands out as a pinnacle in Warwick's lineup, thanks to its innovative semi-hollow body, F-holes, and strategic pickup configuration. Weight is 8.8 lbs. Crafted from Ovangkol and topped with Birds Eye Maple, this bass not only looks stunning but offers unparalleled playability. Its distinctive lower horn cutaway provides unfettered access to the entire fretboard, reaching up to the second octave with ease. The semi-hollow construction ensures a sharp attack reminiscent of an acoustic bass, yet it retains excellent sustain. Known for its robust, growling mids, the Infinity NT consistently makes its presence known in any band setup. A true masterpiece, this bass responds exquisitely to the nuances of your playing style, making it a top choice for discerning bassists. Featuring the renowned Seymour Duncan Basslines pre-amp and 3-way tone control and split Humbucker control. There is also the option to activate the slap contour EQ curve. The pictured Hiscox Case is included. I'm rarely gigging and need to free up some money so no trades thanks. Please try it out in my Ilkley studio near Leeds,Bradford York or use your favourite courier and it will be safely packed in the Hiscox Case Thanks to Bass Bros for additional pics2 points

I've bought and sold basses using bank transfers, here and in Europe, pre B***** of course. It is a leap of faith but as I only buy and sell on Basschat and you can get a feel for the situation if you know the person or have seen them around for awhile. I probably wouldn't get into a sale with someone who had only just joined, or had no history. My preferred process is to meet up with cash. I've driven to Birmingham, Brighton and Margate and a few places in between for the right gear.2 points

Just wanted to give a HUGE shout out to @bremen for undertaking this re-housing job for me and for doing it to such a professional level with an unbelieveable 1-day turn around. I must also say that as a result of @bremen’s amazing generosity, our local food bank is now able to offer support to one more family this week. The world needs more people like him and he is an absolute credit to the Basschat community. As to the pedal, I have a cunning plan for finishing the pedal with a custom graphic. Over here it looks like this: The basscab contains a JBL K140 speaker. The amping is a selfmade Basspreamp (FET preamp similar to Trace Elliot into a modified API 553 EQ circuit) and a KMT DC5 poweramp. The Ampeg Jet is used for my piano (late 70s Yamaha CP30).2 points

I work for a well-known, long established acoustic guitar company (trust me, you've heard of us), and everyone here hates his guts, despite most of our endorsers and many of our customers being country music types, who tend to be Republicans. The Mexico tariffs are going to make all the stuff from our factory down in Navojoa more expensive both for us and for the customer, and we're well aware that a lot of US goods are going to get boycotted around the world, meaning lower sales of our (expensive) US-made stuff.2 points

Picked up one of these at Anderton's yesterday, and I think I'm more surprised than anyone I ended up with something so metal looking - I'm overwhelmingly a funk, soul, reggae listener and player, though I listen to a some choice metal from time to time. Never gone anywhere near the metal look though. I'd put a deposit down on a Sterling Ray34 and RaySS4 intending to come away with something punchy for some fingerstyle funk (skills to follow...) and the guy in the shop offered it to me as an alternative to the RaySS4 - humbucker, passive, short scale. The ergonomics are great and I worry that it might have put me off 'normal sized' basses now. Things I like about it: Sounds close enough to a punchy stringray-style tone for me (don’t shoot me if your ears are more discerning than mine - I can only tell you what it did for me) I wanted a simple passive volume/tone set of controls. It has a simple passive volume/tone set of controls. Light, short scale Really comfortable on a strap or sitting down Fretboard dot placement is a nice touch It has rubber feet so you can stand it against the wall No neck dive. If anything it could drop the other way given the size and placement of the tuners but I haven’t felt that Tuners seem precise and solid - dialled into the note and stayed there straight away, unlike the fenders and sterlings I tested. Knobs and jack are similarly good. Finishing seems good for £500, though not 100% perfect, e.g. some of the black finish is unevenly on the side of the brown fretboard wood. However, it’s a dark bass and took me a day to notice, so I’m not bothered. Stainless steel frets 24 frets - again, never thought that I’d want that, but I was jamming with a backing track and some effects and it’s a nice register to have options in for layering Strap buttons are nicely placed Because of the way the headless system works (no idea if this is all headless systems or not), you don’t have to buy short scale strings - you can fit long scale strings to it and just cut them short (or leave them long if you don’t like your eyes). Handy if they don’t make the ones you want in short scale or if you already own some strings you’d like to use. Not sure I’ll be chopping down my TI jazz flats just yet though Neck is smooth with a satin finish Almost forgot - the gig bag it comes with really is good, with lots of thick padding, a neck support and two front pockets. Much better than the non-free one I got for my other bass Things I don’t like so much about it: The style… but I like that a lot more than I did now I see the ergonomics leading to it. A little red, gold and green stripe and I’m halfway to being Robbie Shakespeare in his Black Uhuru days, surely. When A/Bing with the sterling short scale there was… something about the HILS neck that felt lower quality. Not badly made or finished, just not as hefty in that reassuring way. Bearing in mind that the finishing of the neck is nicer on this bass than the sterling, and I don’t think about this issue now I’m not directly comparing the two. It might also just be a result of this bass’s lightness, so could be a feature rather than a bug Tone isn’t 100% stingray, and it doesn’t have that music man pickup style I love. But I there are options should I feel the need to butcher another guitar, and it’s nice to have an upgrade path I’m not looking forward to changing the strings I spent quite a bit of time A/Bing this and the sterling short scale, and though I could tell the differences between them when I switched, I didn't really feel when playing either of them that I was longing for the other. In the end, the HILS won on ergonomics, price, and to a certain extent build quality.2 points

At a brief look, it looks like we are outside of that, because although we list items for people for sale, we don't facilitate those sales or have any trace of the reportable information, such as knowing if anything has been sold, what the sale price actually was, the location or actual identity of the person selling the item. But IANAL, so what do I know Although looking at the personal details on there, it does mean if you are trying to sell something like a Wal bass that you have had a decade you do need to report it for Capital Gains tax (or I guess you can take up farming instead)2 points

Neck profile is wide and slim, which fits nicely under my hand. I'll probably take out the J pickup and put a Roland GK unit in if I can get the proper installation kit. . It sits very nicely on the rack as well - like a BCer's beauty contest lineup!2 points

Admittedly guitar factory wages aren't high but it's hardly slave labour. If you're in the 'Land of the Free' and work for Ernie Ball you can expect $16ph, work for Fender in Corona and it's $18ph. For a comparison, the In-n-Out burger bar down the road from the Corona plant pays a starting wage of $22ph. It's just factory work so workers get factory wages. Over in Zheng'an, China the cost of living is 1/5th that of California but the guitar factory folks are on $4.5 - $5. There a few reason why bosses there pay a bit better. It's home to 130 guitar factories, if next door pays more you risk losing your workforce 🙂 If none of you offer OK money then you all risk losing your workforce to the big cities. Prior to the Guitar Park opening 25% of the county's migrant workers were in the big city guitar factories, keeping them happy and productive is now vital to the local economy. Exception to the $4.5-$5 rate is Zhang Weiyi. His place produces about 180 guitars per year but they carry $8000 price tags, he needs the cream of the crop for his work force 👍 South Korea has a higher cost of living than China but still much lower than the US. $9 - $9.25 is the going rate there.2 points
