Been thinking about this for a while and then this appears on eBay 28 miles away. Landed it for £599. Sounds HUGE!! I was using an AI Clarus and Ten2ex cab but it wasn't working for me so I added a Phil Jones cab but it still wasn't strong enough for the electric gigs I was doing. Now I am ready for Wembley!!8 points

I’ve had a few sales threads on here recently but have been put off adding more by the file-size limitations. Throwing caution to the wind (or at least compromising with the breeze), I thought I’d put up a single consolidated thread instead. All of the pedals are in good condition and I’d be happy to supply further details to those interested. I’ll post using Royal Mail Special Delivery. WITHDRAWN FOR THE MOMENT COG Custom Solid Snake Blender (boxed) - £90 – bought it because I love COG pedals and because I love Metal Gear Solid. Unusually, it works left to right but I forgive it because it looks cool. COG Custom CMM00 - £250 – Exceptional dual-amp monster aimed at assisting with obtaining a Royal Blood tone through two fuzzes and a re-housed POG. Outputs for bass, guitar and a combination. Recently given the once over by Michael Aitken of Aitken Audio (and neighbour of Tom at COG) to replace a switch. Works thunderously. COG Custom F-2 HPF – £90 – Lovely dual 30 Hz HPF which makes me sound more musical than I am. Source Audio C4 (£170) and Disaster Area Micro Pro (£90) (both boxed) - (or £250 for both) – A Basschat classic. Includes a USB cable and the Disaster Area Ghost Adapter. Idiotbox WTF (boxed) - £75 SOLD – Easily the maddest pedal I’ve ever played. A more or less uncontrollable noise box that used to sit at the front of the chain on my sci-fi themed board before a rejig. Southampton Utility Knife - £275 SOLD – One of my favourite pedals. A chorus, flanger, phaser and tremolo in one small unit. Josh Broughton had a hand in designing the algorithms. They are extremely difficult to find and I’ve had to import both I own. I had one on two boards, one of which I recently disassembled, so I’m selling the spare. COG TK-421 Mini (boxed) - £348 – A beast in mini format. I’ve not seen many of these around (although I think I saw one on another Basschat user’s board recently) so I’m just listing it for the price I paid in an eBay auction. Broughton Calamity (boxed) - £175 – One of the top three muff pedals I’ve played. Like the Utility Knife, I had this on the same two boards and I’m selling the spare. Slightly galling selling this given how hard Broughton pedals are to acquire (I remember exactly where I was when I obtained this one too - missing out on Greek sunshine so I could access wi-fi and bring the fuzz). ON HOLD Sushibox Slampegg Bee Pre X - £150 ON HOLD – A familiar pedal on this sales forum. I’ve sold it a few times. It self-oscillates at certain settings (apparently this is inherent in the design) although I use it behind a buffer and at 12v and it behaves itself for me. I recently sold it on here but the tube became faulty on arrival. It’s visited Michael Aitken and is sporting a new tube. Abominable Electronics Throne Torcher - £120 – A nice HM-2 clone I bought for a shoot-out. I’ve gone with an HM-2 variant I waited over a year for, partly on the strength of the wait, so I’m selling the others. Lone Wolf Audio Left Hand Wrath 2.5 (boxed) - £140 – Similar to the Throne Torcher, bought for a shoot-out. It’s a good-sounding pedal that suffers from its manufacturer’s image: I bought this used in case that matters to those determined not to give LWA business. Barefaced Machinist (boxed) - £185 – Bought on here and listing it for what I paid. Bought on the strength of Tim Commerford using it on his demo for his StingRay signature bass and Tom George at COG being involved in its design. It's great when it's dialled in. Comes in its original wooden box (beware the nails!). WITHDRAWN FOR THE MOMENT Wrought Iron Leather & Effects Kaiburr (boxed) - £300 – This was a custom run by Wrought Iron (and cost a princely £400 or thereabouts after taxes). It sat as the centrepiece of my sci-fi board but has been replaced by something more sith lordy. I was going to price this at £325 but I've priced it a little lower as the unit sometimes needs a tap to get the light to come on. Thanks for reading!6 points

I’m always loath to share my playing online because I’m hardly the best player in the world but I’ve been getting so many compliments about the sound of my new VM4 since I got it that it’s getting silly. This was at our local jam on Monday when I got up to do a Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty number. This was filmed on someone’s phone and sent to me but the bass sounds so rich and growly it’s unreal. I so love the feel and sound of this bass. This is just the P (or V) pickup solo’d in passive mode, I think, but the tone is great (in my opinion). No effects, just a Tonehammer amp and a couple of MarkBass 1x12s. I love this bass! No wonder none of my other basses are getting any playing time at the moment!6 points

I bought this bass last summer, and it's in mint condition. It comes with a Dingwall gig bag and a tool kit. This instrument is fabulous, featuring a lovely low action. It has just been restrung with a new set of Dingwall nickel strings. I'm selling it because there's another bass for sale that I'm eager to purchase. If that one sells, I will withdraw this from sale.4 points

Got it. I loaded the track in to Reaper, set up a loop on the riff and slowed it to 75% and stuck with it. The rest of the song was a doddle after that. I still don't get why that was the bit that tripped me up. Great song though and really fun to play. Makes me want to start a stoner metal covers band but that seems like a band no one would ever book!4 points

Some of my favourite JG moments are on Fish's first solo album 'Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors'. His playing across the entire album is a fretless masterclass, but this bit is especially wonderful. https://youtu.be/hqWdNSDc-uc?si=VoTlt78gA9WNDZ6y&t=1454 points

It took me a while to get my head around this when I was first trying to install series / single / parallel switches in one of my basses. I then came upon this diagram showing 2 types of DPDT switch connections. It looks like the one in your diagram is type 1. Using this diagram and inserting the switch connections (in red) onto your diagram lets you see the current flowpath. Parallel Series Single This one is different because (for the top pickup) the current flows from the + , throught the black wire / pickup / white wire to the switch and then on to ground. Although the green wire is connected to the switch terminal the flow gets dead ended throught theother pickup to the red wire. Hope this helps4 points

Fender Mustang Bass 1970 For sale is my great vintage ’70 Mustang Bass in a sought after competition red finish with matching headstock. The bass is all original as far as I can tell, and is fitted with an uncommon pinkish pearl pickguard (as sometimes found on instruments from this era). The serial number says it’s from 1970, which is consistent with the matching headstock. The pots date back to week 51 of 1970. I don’t have a picture of the pickup bottoms; the pickguard is partly stuck to the body due to some chemichal reaction with the pickguard material (common issue with CAR finish), and I don’t want to force things when taking it off. The solder joints are untouched. The fretboard has some nice figuring on and appears to be brazilian rosewood. This bass has been used, and it has small damages and usermarks all around. Nothing serious though, it’s in a very good vintage condition considering the age. All hardware and electronics are functional. Two of the tuners are a bit stiff and might want some lubrication. The neck is straight, adjustable, and the frets are in good condition. I’ve added an angled shim to get the action lower while retaining a good breaking angle. It’s a very comfortable playing bass with a good action. Weight is 3,6kg on my kitchen scales. The bass is fitted with LaBella flats. The best choice for these basses imo, they bring a lot of character. Included is the original "salt ’n pepper" Victoria hardcase. Without any doubt this is the best Mustang Bass I’ve ever played. Though I have to offer it for sale due to other choices/purchases. Asking €4.500 Partial trades with cash my way are negotiable. An earlier Modulus Flea or Rickenbacker 4001 per example.. I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk. Upfront payment methods are the only ones accepted; cash on collection, banktransfer or PayPal as a gift.3 points

There has been some really interesting stuff coming up lately around three of the original Simple Minds line up getting together. I have finally found out how Derek Forbes played some of the original Simple Minds Riffs watching this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w79gmTDXJTM Hopefully the link works. If not, it was the book launch/masterclass of 'A Very Simple Mind' in Walthamstow (of all places)3 points

For sale, my Overwater-Tanglewood Classic J bass. These basses were a budget version Overwater built by Tanglewood, I've owned mine from new since 2011 and it is in excellent condition. This bass has a P/J pickup configuration and volume, balance and tone controls. I don't like to send basses by courier so it is available for pickup in mid Bedfordshire or I can deliver to surrounding areas or we can arrange to meet half way between us. Looking for £1803 points

Attempt 3: So, I then considered building a wooden clamp to fix the body in position and slowly pillar drill the remains out, but decided to option for the method suggested by @bremen via the stumac product. It is in the U.S and subsequently found it not fully available, so sourced an alternative: sourcing map 5mm Diamond Drill Bits Hole Saws for Glass Tile Porcelain Marble Ceramic Bottles Pots Brick 5 Pcs https://amzn.eu/d/imAbBRB I purchased 5mm and 6mm, but found 5mm to work perfectly removing said offenders. Still waiting on the hardwood dowels to arrive, fit etc.. Will keep you posted.3 points

Mine is a double reverse P. The pickups- dimarzio blades- are not original but they sound phenomenal. The bass was black when I boought it, so I stripped and oiled it and put the new circuit in. Really great bass. I3 points

There is another aspect to that, Beedster. He never had one. He is incapable of having one. He is being enabled by people who haven't got one either.3 points

I completely agree, and anyway there are three major problems with Trump's plan to return America to greatness 1. He hasn't got one 2. He hasn't got one 3. He hasn't got one3 points

John was also a composer and could play piano and guitar. During his time with Simple Minds, he played the following during the Simple Minds recording era. Mick McNeil, the incredible keyboardist from Simple Minds is playing it here. John also composed the following for Simple Minds. Sadly, during the recording process of the Street Fighting Years album, John and Trevor Horn fell out in such a big way that John packed up his gear and walked out and quit Simple Minds. Its possible to tell on the album what are some of John's bass lines for some tracks but not all. I have spoken to Steve Lipson who played additional bass if he knew but sadly he can't remember.3 points

He keeps refusing to apply a wealth tax or to tax the huge profits that energy companies have made in the last few years, instead choosing to go for pensioners, poor families with more then two children, overseas aid, and raised the cost of employment. I long for a left wing government. We haven't had one since 1979.3 points

I bought the Bass VI from a well known guitar shop in 2010, it was sold on behalf of a well known musician who’s name is on the receipt, not the one who’s name and band name are on the case so I don’t know anything about that other than that is exactly how the case was when I bought it. It was a blue refinish when I got it and I had it redone in Dakota red nitro cellulose with a matching headstock and correct style decal, back of neck is original finish. It is a darker red than I can get in the pictures, looking like vintage originals, with chips, dings and checking. The pic guard is not original but made from mint green 3 ply. Two of the machine heads are original but the rest replaced with two different kinds from different periods. Pots have been changed and I’m not sure about the wiring although the pick ups, switches, and control plate and knobs are original as is the trem but the trem arm is missing. Original frets, string tree and strap buttons. Truss rod turns ok. I’m not willing to send this so it’s a collection only where you are welcome to inspect before buying. Thanks, G2 points

For sale is my Modulus Quantum 6-string. The bass has a 35" scale length, the body is made of alder and for the looks there is a beautiful top made of flamed maple. In addition, of course, it has the Modulus typical carbon neck. The three-band preamp and pickups are from Bartolini. The bass is in excellent condition - I can’t find any scratches, dents or other damage. The fretwork is absolutely excellent and allows for an extremely low action. Accordingly, the bass is absolutely effortless to play. As an accessory there is a case from SKB. The case has a small crack on one corner, but it is still perfect for shipping. My asking price is 2300 GBP or 2800€.2 points

Fender Precision for sale. This was a limited run purchased from GuitarGuitar, it was a UK Exclusive model for them and retailed at £1350. Made in Japan, Traditional II 50s Precision in 2 Tone Sunburst with Maple Neck. In very good condition and with original gigbag. Looking for £1050 for this one. Based near Yeovil, Somerset. Happy to ship at cost of postage although would always favour a meetup/collection...2 points

At the end of the day, no one is going to criticise you for getting these out using whatever method you eventually use. If you end up having to fill the existing holes before refitting the replacement bridge, then hey ho I say. It's all stuff I would do to get it right too. All of this will be hidden under the replacement bridge, so it's not going to be seen. Crack on my son. Rob,2 points

Attempt 2... After further Internet research techniques and tools, I though stuff it, drill the heads, remove the bridge, using one of these: 6PCS Broken Head Screw Removal Tool, Alloy Steel Remove Stripped Damaged Screw Tap Extractor Tool M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12 https://amzn.eu/d/aSQRkUs to remove the screw bodies, afterall, no corrosion now, just buried in wood right? Nope. Stuck in there good and proper, the Tool just would not grip. On a positive, I did get the rotten bridge off, earth wire intact, but due to bridge corrosion, not doing its job. Images below are post cleaning of the bridge, it was in an appalling state, you might say it still is!2 points

Always had a bit of GAS for one of these. I'm not a BCR expert but I think '83 would be an NJ series - Nagoya, Japan. These were most likely made by Kasuga Gakki, which was a top-tier Japanese manufacturer at the time.2 points

Gutted to be sell my TBird but I'm still unable to return to work so really need the funds. I bought this new last year and it's been my main gigging bass. Much brighter and lighter (4.2 Kg) than my standard Thunderbird due to it's alnico pickups. Chunkier neck too, more Precision like and due to it's shape much easier to play up the dusty end of the neck. I do prefer these to the 'normal' Tbirds I have to say, so good that I bought another a few months ago. I love the sound these thing make. Not at all muddy and the best I can describe it is been like a beefed up Jazz bass and having real presence in the mix. The colour is Pelham blue and in excellent condition with only a small dink by the control cavity cover. Bass comes with its lovely fitted Gibson case which is also in great condition. Now £900. The price is to sell and I won't go any lower. I can ship (UK only) at your cost but I'd really prefer to meet up if not too far from Merseyside.2 points

I like how they've used a Haz pedal in the article as an example of the 'real thing'. Who writes this stuff? Musitronics seem very badly run as a company, and you could argue that this goes back to the root of the problem in the first place. They always seem quite grumpy about 'copes' and yet don't seem to offer anything themselves - or, if you can get your hands on one, I think they've failed to tap into what people like about their original pedals.2 points

Hi there yes i purchased a sm1 late last year , i was looking for a smith of which i already have a Hadreien feraud , but wanted an american thro neck version , then someone tipped me off about jones basses , after a few chats with Mark Jones i took a leap of faith having not tried 1 or even seen 1 , i specked it as i wanted , roll on 2 months later the bass turned up , the build quality and finish is already at a usa Smith level , sound wise you will get the same tones as a smith as the pick ups come from the same supplier , the woods are very similar and the construction is exactly the same , i was blown away with this bass partic as it’s 40% of the cost of the likewise Smith , so pleased with this i ordered a different design and different pick up configuration which i will be receiving next week , ive already seen pictures of it during the build and have no doubt it will be as good as the sm1 . If anybody is looking for a truly fantastic handmade bass i can recommend these , altho they are expensive compared to mass produced basses they are a snip compared to smith , fodera ect and just as good2 points

That's quite a pessimistic view Pete, you could be right, but it's still quite pessimistic. Re America's allies never trusting them again, I think we as a nation look at the USA through rose tinted lenses, the rhetoric is 'Land of the free', the Constitution etc, but as a country it's tended to act with a mix of mercurial and often disastrous foreign policy, blatant and backfiring economic self-interest, and often pathological disregard for many of its own population. A very old a dear friend, now long gone, was a pilot in the RAF and had on several occasions to take part in joint NATO exercises with US forces. He said he and all his follow pilots dreaded them as the US military was the least organised, least well disciplined, yet most arrogant about it's own status of any that he had worked with. During exercises they had to be constantly vigilant to potential accidents resulting from poorly trained personal to poorly maintained or unsuitable technology to aircraft being where they shouldn't be to friendly fire (and he had some very good examples of each). No joke, he said he'd prefer actual combat to exercises with the US military. OK, one person's view, but I think the US - in military terms at least - was far less the leader of the free world and more one part of a delicate balance.2 points

Which is the truth, a clever government has to walk a very fine line between sufficient tax to support society and sufficient private/corporate wealth to support business. Most go too far in one or other direction, but I guess that's short-term party politics for you?2 points

We are pushing the boundaries I guess but this is more of a general point. How many of these companies, talking about the dire consequences of the budget etc could easily absorb the additional cost and still make a good profit and pay good dividends? We should have a discussion about what level of profit is good and what is excessive.2 points

OT, but Gibson was a union shop while in Kalamazoo, MI. If you look at any acoustic guitar from that era it will have a sticker inside of it stating that it was union made. One of the main reasons IMO why Norlin had decided to move out of there. This is from my '64 Epiphone - already owned by Gibson/CMI at the time - acoustic. Lower left corner of the sticker...2 points

I bought my first guitar, first amp and far too much other stuff from Pete Hamm's brother, John, who had a music shop in Swansea for years. Very friendly bloke and never made a deal out of his more famous brother. But when I asked, he did say that he had all of Pete's guitars and other kit in storage above the shop. The shop is long gone now.2 points

Morrocan Roll was a killer CD , and in my collection. Also Unorthodox Behaviour, and Masques. Percy only on those, i think. Funny bit of info ..PJ's first fretless was a Gretsch fretted ( IIRC ) and he filed down the frets under the D and G strings, but its only been used on one track " Running on Three " After they got their first ever advance, PJ went straight out and bought a Precision fretless, and the WAL came after that. John Goodsall bought a fur coat with his first advance2 points
