  1. First of two nights for me. Main band tonight at a favourite venue that did not disappoint. Not rammed but busy and well up for it. Sets were mixed up and worked pretty well including the new songs. Crowd well up for it and singing (loud enough for me to get a feel for it through the IEM ambient mic) & dancing all night and three encores so that was good. Drummer was tired from lack of sleep with family problems chasing round to help out with one of his sons pregnant girlfriend who had problems and had to go to hospital, so fingers crossed for that, also I missed rehearsal last Monday so we both had a few moments through the night, but nothing that couldn’t be caught. Plenty of compliments in the break and at the end of the night, and a reasonable wedge from the bucket in addition to general fee so that was good. First night with the Sennheiser G4 IEM which went well, though I should have completed my tests and properly read the manual beforehand. Running into it mono but didn’t seem to have switched something and was only getting signal one side for soundcheck. A bit of poking around in menus before first set and managed to fix that enough for a good night and pleased with that acquisition - anyone need a barely used xvive system 😁 Tried the C4 synth with a Gecko midi switcher, having spent a while setting/tweaking patches on Thursday. I need a new pedalboard and power supply as there was a horrible buzzing of a ground loop I am presuming was the separate power supply running them. No time to tinker so just took them out of the chain and that seemed to fix it. Used the FrankenJazz acquired from @Beedster late last year. Still loving it over the S2 at the moment and only occasionally thrown by the missing string and D-tuner. A bit of soundcheck - https://fb.watch/y2eOQVwafA/? A bit more - https://fb.watch/y2eUzC4GNi/?

  2. got this general disaster in a trade for some pedals i wasn’t using and it turned out to be a beauty! the neck is too narrow, the electronics are a mess, the bridge is a joke, but i love how it feels, sounds and it’s super inspiring every time i pick it up… i love the other basses in the house as well, but never expected this to become such a thing, i guess you never can tell…

  3. Wilcock Mullarkey in the classic vintage white/maple combination (as played by Tim Lefebvre, Me'Shell etc) with Dunlop flats. Still in very good 9+/10 condition. I have gigged it several times but amazingly not managed to put any scratches or dings in it that I can see. Weighs 7.4 pounds. New these are £2650, I believe. I will let it go for £1900 delivered within UK (sorry UK sale only), or £1875 collected from a public space in SW13 London (Barnes). Will come in Fender padded short scale gig bag but will also be well wrapped in bubble wrap and cardboard. Why sell if its so great? Simply put, I am going back to long scale now that my damaged left-hand has largely recovered from horse accident in 2023. I have a substantially less valuable Mustang bass as backup should the need arise for a short scale. Oh and the money would be useful! So no trades, thanks More pics from previous seller's ad below

  4. NPD for me, a Sushi Box FX Neptunium. Love what its doing. I'm using it in conjunction with a Quad Cortex in such a way that the QC chain is running into it, and the XLR output is running back into the QC before being sent out to FoH/IEMs. This way, I get the lovely tube warmth and magic with a quick on the fly adjustable preamp, with a fallback DI available with just a couple of cable switcheroos. I also use the QC as a recording/practice interface, so keeping the Np within the QC workflow is necessary. As shown in the pic, im getting great results by boosting the bass and flicking the cut switch to really thicken stuff out without adding the boom, and the treble brings back some sparkle absorbed by the tube. Instantly sound better, love it!

  5. This is a lovely Spector Euro LX 5 which has been upgraded with the lightweight aluminium bridge and Hipshot Ultralite USA tuning machines. The pickups have series / parallel switching via push / pull volume knobs. The bass in in near-mint condition with some very small blemishes that are barely noticeable. The poplar burl has amazing figuring and I think better than the burls currently coming out on the new CST models. Comes with a Spector gig-bag. I’m selling this as I just don’t play 5 string enough to justify keeping this in the stable. Collection / trial welcomed in Cardiff. Price includes UK postage. RE: trades - I will consider anything with 4 strings but particularly like Spectors. Would love a nice NS2A + some cash. Please see my extensive feedback here on Basschat for buying confidence ☺️

  6. I withdrew this a few weeks back because I realised that due to fret wear at the money end of the neck my Luther advised a refret So now it has been fully refretted and the fretbaord all nicely levelled its as good as new... Here we have a 1972 Precision with OHSC Chrome covers are missing Pots and pickups date to 72 Weight is 4.1 Kg's Nut is 40mm, these are great necks Lovely dark board Case is in very good condition and all clasps are working Trus rod works both ways, electrics are good Nice genuine play wear One of the Tuners has G316 engraved on it for some reason I think I have priced this fairly judging by the asking prices of similiar ones online Price to include delivery to UK addresses May be up for a trade with cash my way of course

  7. Or was it the plan all along. Put a deal in front of Zelensky that he can’t accept, pull arms from Ukraine, Putin gets Ukraine and Trump blames it on Zelensky to his abhorrent followers.

  8. In print it looks fairly orchestrated. The heated discussions usually take place behind closed doors. This looks like a public way of either forcing Zelensky to accept a deal or being able to blame him for what happens if he doesn’t buckle under. The longer term issue is the US have publicly shown they are not committed to Ukraine’s security and by extension Europe and NATO. The biggest winner in this is Putin followed by Xi. An isolationist, unreliable, publicly antagonistic leader prone to temper tantrums with his own allies makes China’s claim to power more legitimate. The question now is how should NATO respond. It’s clear that under Trump NATO has no US backing so does Europe wake up and redefine itself? Geopolitical disaster A stronger Russia A stronger China A divided NATO Trump has sidelined all the people that kept him in check last time around and is playing a game he doesn’t understand against long term strategists who will outmanoeuvre him. All he cares about is settling old scores, making money and looking tough. Other players think far ahead and bide their time whilst building economic and political alliances.

  10. A few pics. @Manton Customs Double neck Uke! Ortega stand. Idiot playing bass badly on the ACG stand. Yolanda Charles making it look easy on the Sandberg stand. Steve Lawson - a very different sound. 20250301_140524.mp4 Unusual bass at Absolute Music. Really nice to play, yours for under £2k. This wasn't even close to being the most expensive guitar at the show. (I didn't see it, but there was one at £85k!)

  11. This week I ordered a set of La Bella Mustang flatwound strings from BD, which arrived super fast. The D string was totally dead and unusable (on inspection, the winding seemed compromised). I called the guys at BD who not only offered to replace the faulty string but sent an entire replacement set which arrived the next day! Above and beyond! Thank you BD

  14. I liked those two songs and it's easy to see why you have a hunger to do it again. Good solid playing too so I can see why you wouldn't want the standards to fall there either. I absolutely don't think your expectations are unreasonable but they are quite high which means your odds of achieving them are reduced. You are asking foir a high level of creative input into the music that means you would also expect to be one of the bands driving forces and effectively a band leader. You've been co-writing songs so you are obviously a co-operator but also quite driven and demanding which probably comes with being creative. Your tastes are probably more niche than you think, I had to google all the bands you listed, the 90's not really being my decade. You've been playing for nearly 40 years so you are probably late 50's so the people you want to hook up with are probably a similar age. You are fishing in a diminishing pool. Your contemporaries will have their peak of work and family commitments and many will no longer be playing, those that have continued throughout will be in established bands playing sets they are happy with. Many will have succumbed to the lure of covers bands and regular paid gigs. Existing bands looking for a bassist will want you to play their sets at least initially. I'm not saying thai to be depressing but it's a bit like dating in later life; by this time you know what you want, there's no point in an unsatisfactory relationship but at the same time dating is more demanding than when you were younger and more pliant. It's worth thinking about what is really essential and what you might be prepared to compromise on. I suppose if I've any advice it's maybe to look for a creative partner you can work with. Two of you are halfway to forming a band and between you will be a strong driving force. There are plenty of fine musicians who are not particularly driven but like to play with a properly organised going concern. Anyway good luck with your search, I hope you find your people.

  15. Indeed! Can't wait to take it out tonight with the Evanescence tribute and be told by my bandmates they can't tell the difference. At least it's pretty.

  16. Zelensky is the victim here. You can argue about what he should have done or what he shouldn't have done, but that's not the story. Trump and Vance’s little game, their disgusting hatchet job, is the story. It won't be reported accurately in the US. All mainstream media is living in fear right now. Every time they are reporting on a Trump story, their main concern is not to be sued by Musk or Trump, or both, or lose their broadcasting licences. The world has become a less safe place after today.

  17. Fender Jazz Bass ’62 Reissue (1983) Fullerton Factory Reluctantly selling my Fender Jazz: the details below are from the original advert. Purchased from Andy Baxter Bass Guitars in 2012 (Hackney, London. Now in Leeds). I have the original receipt. It was owned and played for many years by someone in Boston USA. I also include some info on Fullerton Factory Reissues. This 1983 Fender Jazz Bass Fullerton factory 62 reissue pays tribute to the original version of the model. Features include an alder body with nitro cellulose lacquer finish in 3 colour sunburst, lightly tinted maple neck with a 1962 U shape. Rosewood fingerboard, and vintage frets, vintage style Jazz bass pickups , stacked concentric control knobs, tortoise pickguard, vintage style hardware. The finish shows lots of natural play wear. The relic look on this bass is all natural which adds to the time period feel. (This is not a relic repro). The nitro shows lots of weather checking. The neck dates 23rd Jan 1983 the pots date 1982, body date unclear. Missing thumb rest & metal covers. The truss rod works and the bass is set up nice and low with a very fast action. The bass comes with a period correct case. The frets were stone ground back in 2012 and remain good due to occasional use. Fullerton History: (from a Fullerton Strat ad) For those less familiar with the Fullerton factory, it was Fender's first return to the pre-CBS Leo Fender era of making guitars. these are known as some of the best instruments Fender produced since '64. Built on the pre-CBS machines to vintage spec by master technicians, these instruments play like butter and sound as close as you'll get to a legitimate pre-CBS Fender. (Not to mention, this neck is stamped "J. Torres", one of the most famous fender neck builders ever. just google "J Torres Fender" and see what people have to say about the quality of his necks). This bass is available from Essex….. collection only….. I have checked prices in Europe and USA and are currently between £3000 and £4000 for both Fullerton Reissue Precisions and Jazz’s Price is £3500.00 Bank transfer prior to collection. For further details, please PM me. Thanks for looking.

  19. Made a label and glued it in Cut the top nut (string guide) from a piece of buffalo horn. I used the brass template the ETS provided with the bridge Mounted the tuners. Had to modify the carbon base plates of the (light weight) Gotoh CXB-01 tuners that I used for the octave strings. Because the "ears" were overlapping each other.

  20. After lots of checking and measuring I finally glued the neck in Then drilled the holes for the controls And stained the back a dark mahogany (with a dash of red) The quilted maple top was going to get a cherry burst First did the yellow stain. And then (while still wet) did the red outline. And feathered it out to make nice smooth gradient. Then built up lots of layers of clear After lots of sanding and polishing I mounted the pickups and hardware

  21. Where was that ? I remember playing a wee support slot with Status Quoiing at a club in West End Glasgow possibly out towards Paisley area that had a Db monitor. Mic was at far end of the hall. I just put a cover over the mic and no-one was any the wiser. Dave

  23. I’d recommend a Fender Mustang American Performer. It’s short scale and has a really slim neck - with some Labella Flats would play like butter. I’ve got one and a JMJ but the JMJ has a wider neck like a precision.

  25. No, my KingBass MkII is the "penultimate" one ever made, out of around 60 total production. It was a one-off special order in 2019 for a customer in Hawaii who had already ordered about 7 other Statii. Even though the main of KingBass MkII production was between around 2008 & 2010, the last ever MkII was made in 2020. I played one Mark King's personal MkII's at the factory back in about 2008 and always wanted one. I tried to get one made in 2014, but it wasn't worth them reprogramming the CNC machine for a one-off bass, so this is the realisation of a 17 year wait.

  35. Find the mic cable and surreptitiously stick a pin through it, or as we used to do years ago have a roadie roam the venue with a mains tester searching out a socket that didn’t trip while the drummer hit the snare and run *everything* from that socket on a long cable 🤣

  36. Zalenski has nothing to lose. He's in a no win situation. Trump wants to steal his country. Putin wants to invade it. But Europe are at the most risk, why aren't NATO talking to Zalenski and politely telling the US and Russia to get lost. The US have already said they want out of NATO. They've broken UN deals on foreign aid. Shut down the US bases in Europe.

  40. derek was a huge influence on me .. it's a shame he doesn't get back together with the old band, bearing in mind all the early stuff was structurally started on the bass ..the guy who plays bass with them today does not do the early basslines justice at all in my opinion.

  41. This is me. Two different bands. Co-wrote Let's Go with the guitarist and I wrote the music for Human Resources. I'm not looking to change the world or, for god's sake, 'make it'...that ship sailed many moons ago; realistically it's just to have a creative outlet writing/playing three minute songs and have hassle free fun doing it. Like I say, it shouldn't be this difficult.

  43. I can sympathise. I'm in a similar situation. JMB seems to have a lot of people who are just awful at communicating, don't follow through on what they say they'll do and who have a very high opinion of themselves, like the drummer/guitarist chap you've come across shows. A band I know and see occasionally is looking for a replacement drummer and I was saying to them that you have to kiss a lot of frogs before finding the one. I looked back at all the bands I've played in and how they started and this now is the first time in 40 years of playing in bands that I'm unable to use my existing network of contacts to find a band that I want to play in or even needs a bassist (or guitarist). It's like becoming single after decades in a relationship and finding out that the game has changed. I've resisted messaging a couple of bands because I thought I was getting desperate, there were red flags, " middle-agers that rehearse on Sundays between 7pm-1030pm to get together to play songs we like...", "lots of ideas but no full songs yet", "want to write songs about controversial topics", another that has a dozen rambling unstructured guitar/drum demos in Drop C# tuning and all in the same key with uninspiring drums. @NancyJohnson are your expectations too high? Well, based on what you've said so far and the parallel experience I'm having, I'd say no. I understand the argument about 50% of the band you want and turning it around to 90% but my 50% expectation is quite high and I've been in those 50% bands before. My nearest and dearest have told me to start my own thing like I did last summer but the drummer (21yo) has developed some serious health issues (can no longer drum) and the guitarist (co-writer/co-singer, close friend) got offered a job in Spain. That was an organic band formed from brilliant people I know, not recruiting strangers. I've started going to more local multi-band shows and open mic nights just to expand my network but it's not easy. I've "settled" before and it's been dreadful, so I'd say, don't compromise, keep your expectations where they are but keep searching and keep on kissing a few frogs. It will happen.

  45. I must admit, I am all for an elbow that is up when playing standing. I could show you lots of pictures of me being too lazy to do it, but if I am doing any kind of "proper" playing requiring dexterity, then a dropped elbow (for me) puts all sorts of strain on my wrist and forearm. I know you are experiencing pain elsewhere but bodies are funny things and will telegraph pain from different places while they try and compensate. Keeping things in balance is imperative (maaan!). I would reccomend standing in a room with an experienced teacher. It is entirely possible that you have zero interest in playing the Bach unaccompanied 'cello suites at pitch so do not need to be paying top whack for years to come. One or maybe two lessons will give you the physical pointers you need.
