Maxell M9V Well, ummm,it's a battery Anonymous 14.07.2016 If you're looking for a 9v battery, this is a 9v battery. It provides power to things that require a 9v battery As a helicopter, totally useless. As a 9v battery, perfect. It will provide power for a certain amount of time, after that time elapses it will no longer provide power. As such it serves as a metaphor for the ephemeral and transient nature of being and provides proof(if any were needed)that entropy is the prevailing force in our all too brief existence. Also it tickles your tongue if you lick it. Hope you found this useful, next week's topic...trousers first ,THEN shoes. Show less24 points

I got a Cort Rithmic a couple of months ago and loved it. It plays well and sounds great and I particularly love the passive electronics. On the weekend, I was browsing online and randomly came across a half price Rithmic V, it cost less than the four string which I also got for a good price. I couldn't resist. Here is the new bass alone and with the 4-string and my Harley Benton 7-string.6 points

Selling a rare Smith BT6 with an amazing Bubinga-Top. Specs: Figured Bubinga Top and Back Mahogany Core Walnut Laminates 5-pc Through-Neck 34" Ebony Board 18 mm Spacing at Bridge Built 1990 Original Smith Electronics, Pickups and Hardware Original Teardrop Hardcase The bass has the typical "real" Through-Neck of the early 90s, which means there is no toneblock laminated on the back of the neck when it runs through the body. This requires more effort (and wood) to implement than the later toneblock version. The neck is the typical flat 90s profile which allows fast and easy playing even with a 6-stringer like this. Later Smith necks became more chunky. Sound is as you would expect from that Masterclass. Hear the Patitucchi videos from that era to get an impression. The B string and the response to dynamic fiungerplay are outstanding. The bass is in good condition, some Dings on the body especially at the body "pin", a rubbed off area at the upper body side - hard to see, look at the pics. Frets are top, Action is low, gold hardware is only slightly faded and still shines. Only Minus: Someone has drilled a hole into the body close to the output jack to install a 3rd strap pin. SOLD Considering trades with cash either way against Ken Smith Elite 5, Fodera Elite 5/6, Alleva Coppolo LG5 CSL non-sunburst, Fender pre-CBS. Nothing else please.6 points

Picked this up today at the end of my GAS burst. First Ibanez I've had for about twenty years. A very nice condition 2017 SR1400 Premium. Spent the latter part of the evening setting it up, as someone had set the neck flat and raised all the bridge monorails to compensate! All fixed now with a low action6 points

Hi all, The bass I am selling my Spector Euro Rebop bass. It's a beautiful bass that is all Spector in terms of feel and somewhere between a Spector and a Stingray in terms of sound. I'll spare you all the usual fluff about how I'll be sorry to see it go and such, but honestly it's a really nice bass and I'm sure it'll make someone else as happy as it made me. What I will say, without any hint of hubris or salesmanness, is that this is a LOT of bass for the money. You can tell it's one of their nicer ones as compared to my NS Pulse II it has a few better appointments such as the 'full fat' preamp instead of the junior, smoother neck join cuts, etc. Location/Postage I'm based between Newcastle and Wyalm, about 15 minutes from the Metrocentre. I work from home most of the time so I can be flexible with collection or can deliver if it's sensible. I can be near Durham quite easily and my little brother lives in Northallerton. I can post as I have the box. Price This is up for the same £750 I paid for it. Which is either the right price (as that's what I paid) or a massive bargain (as prices have gone mental lately) depending on how you look at it. This is the price that Bass Bros offered to buy it from me for before they ghosted me for the second time, so I assume they would have made a healthy profit on top of that price. For these reasons I think that this is extremely fair. Spector ReBop MM Bass Specs: Scale: 34" Construction: Bolt-on Body: European Alder Top: Figured Maple Neck: 3-piece Maple with Graphite Rods and Truss Rod Fingerboard: Maple Inlays: Black Spector Pickup: Aguilar Dual Coil Electronics: Spector TonePump Hardware: Black Bridge: Aluminum Locking Body Finish: Trans Blue Stain Matte Additional photos here.5 points

Third rehearsal with “Just Bodies” - starting to really tighten up, new song introduced and seems to be getting somewhere. Will admit that about halfway through there was some messing with tempos of stuff we already had nailed on and I got a bit frustrated. but. What’s a band without frustration…5 points

I have transcribed loads of Anthony Jackson but today, after listening to him for 40 years or more, I have finally noticed a mistake. At 5:09 on this big band video from 1994, in the tune 'Why Not', AJ hits a wrong note. I couldn't believe it. 'kin lightweight! There is hope for me yet!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88-Xz5fUFKg4 points

I have to say that, in my 44 years of playing, I have always found that, whatever instrument I play, I unfortunately end up sounding remarkably like me.4 points

Went to a 'new' studio last night. 8:30 start which meant a late finish 😞 I'd spent the whole day feeling really out of sorts. Use their Ashdown amp a 4x10 combo and struggled to get anything better than mud out of it. Also, massive output difference between my passive 5 and my active Sire, despite the Sire being set to be close to passive bass output levels, which I've never noticed before. On the way home, I wondered if High and Low meant 'high and low impedance' rather than 'high and low output' basses'? Whoops. Despite our last gig being a belter in terms of audience reaction, we felt we were ragged, not having all played together for three months. In particular we got some feedback that we weren't playing the 5/4 bits of White Room. After spending more time discussing it than the length of the song and nearly dumping it, I said something along the lines of 'for god's sake let's play it and if we get it right, we keep it'. Of course, we all got it spot on. Less discussion about other songs, and other than me finding an extra bar in New Sensation, we pretty much nailed all the songs that had tripped us up. We also had another go at Hysteria and although not ready to gig, we now know we can do it. To my astonishment, the lead guitarist actually commented that the drummer and I had locked together! I think my suggestion that he emphasises 'the 1' helps. It's still scary though. Now waiting for a new gas meter... tracking says the guy has been parked round the corner for 45 minutes, so I guess he's having an extended lunch break...4 points

Reduced £2,975 My beautiful limited edition 4003 in a rare and striking looking 'Walnutburst' finish. This sounds as good as it looks with a fantastic sounding deep growl and smooth high end - low action, no fret buzz. which suits the neck. Certificated. I shall also include a black scratch plate / TRC (non original) and OHSC. Am selling, as I am winding down a bit from performing and need to clear some gear - and I have a spare.... Collection is infinitely preferred, though if not too far and in the Essex / Suffolk / North Kent / Surrey area, could deliver for fuel considerations to be agreed! Price reduced to £2,975, after consultation, to acknowledge minor chips and ding near rear strap button.. Sensible px considered3 points

Immaculate EBS Fafner 2 in Gator 3u rack bag/case. In good working order and I had a new tube put into it in January. This amp is solid state in all its glory. It can do everything and will not break a sweat in any scenario. It has a tube drive section that can go from subtle grit to full blown fuzz and it even has the option to apply the tube to the clean channel for that extra warmth. It also has a great onboard compressor along with a multitude of EQ, character, DI and FX loop options. It will deliver 310W into an 8 ohm load, 610W into a 4 ohm load and 750W into a 2 ohm load. This is a big solid state amp and it has outstripped every class D amp I have ever owned in terms of weight of notes and volume. It weighs in at approximately 18kg (40lbs) in its rack bag/case. The rack bag/case has a large external pocket, front and rear zip panels and padded shoulder strap which makes carrying the amp easier. Collection only for this beauty as it’s simply too heavy to ship. I’m just outside Milton Keynes approximately 15 minutes from junctions 14 and 15 of the M1. Proper photos on the way, the Fafner 2 in the place holder photo is the actual one I’m selling, the cab and bass are absolutely not for sale.3 points

Hi I purchased this bass new in July 2023 and have only used it a handful of times. It is in as new condition and has only been used for a few hours overall. It is a lovely guitar but unfortunately I have athritis in my hands and find the C shape neck a struggle, so sadly it has to go. It has the Fender premium gig bag that came with it, this is unused. You can find all the specification in the usual way. Thanks for looking.3 points

I noticed I never took my pedal board to gigs anymore. If I do need extra effects, I always bring my Helix. So I downsized a lot in the last few days; sold my reverb and chorus, put my octaver and fuzz up for sale, and now this is left: The blank pedal is a custom built Tubescreamer copy, voiced for bass. And yes, I have straightened the position of the Cali3 points

Hulla rehearsal on Sunday. They're always a bit hit or miss at this stage (still working up to gigging season with nothing specific until April). But the BL messaged us all to say he had a 'great idea' and that we should listen to 'Ecstacy of Gold'. I didn't know that it's the title of a track from 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly', by Ennio Morricone. It's also been used in an advert recently. I'm always sceptical at unexplained 'great ideas' but this one turned out to have some potential as long as we work it through properly. Basically, at the festival we do every year the BL wants that band to come on stage section by section (we're 13 in all) in bringing in the instruments to build up the arrangement to a crescendo (which will be the drummer and me). Sounds corny and it probably is, but knowing the crowd and the ability of the BL to work them, I think it will be ok. As long as we can get the ukuleles to play the right chords. 😀 We've also started on 'House of the Rising Sun' one of the few songs I really loathe (and I don't really know why). But the version we're doing (following the Mumford & Sons 'Live at New Orleans' Youtube track) is rather good. And after two sessions, we seem to be getting the arrangement right. We have a talented multi instrumentalist in the line-up (she's my bass apprentice, sings, plays uke and guitar and she's only 17) and on this song she's playing trombone - rather well. And to cap it all off, there was birthday cake on Sunday courtesy of the BL.3 points

All this talk of Peavey's and me wanting an early TL5 has prompted me to pull the trigger on this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286396469030 I've already got one ( from @lonestar on here) in natural and I love them, however I've always wanted to try the Super Ferrite early versions and saw this one for sale. Price is pretty reasonable compared to some of the ones available on Reverb which are £1000 plus import duties which didn't really appeal to me.3 points

This. Commonly known as "drop tuning", just tune the whole thing down a semitone. You really won't notice the difference when you are playing unless someone tries to play along with you while still tuned to concert pitch. Our band has done it for years because it makes it easier on the aging vocal chords. One day we must tell the drummer...3 points

Yes, it was the Reidy's offer, Terry. I saw it for under a grand previously but it went up and some places are asking £1449 but I got it for £799 so all good. The 'sterile' comment is an interesting one because I find that fact that the sound is 'tamer' than a lot of active basses can be is that selling point for me.2 points

...coz this is an internet forum and we have to talk about something! Thus said the least helpful advice I find on this forum is "what cab (or speaker size/combination) should I use" as I agree - you need to plug them in and play them rather than obsessing about specs. Amps, pedals and basses, however, seem more able to be described using words.2 points

In fairness, it was extremely predicable it would go this way, especially following your rather tongue in cheek use of the word "bargain" 😅 That being said, I don't think anyone has been rude, its just an open on-topic discussion.2 points

Yes I also upgraded the pickups and hard ware (well bridge & nut) on my Artcore as they were cheaper components and the gold-effect tarnished quite quickly on the bridge, but I think (to stay on track with the thread) it emphasises the point that if you find a cheaper instrument that plays well you can always upgrade the hardware to get the spec similar to a much more expensive instrument. The big brand names also come with a premium that is probably only worth it for resale value. Certainly Ibanez (and increasingly Sire) are two brands that make excellent instruments but at surprisingly affordable prices compared to the more famous brands.2 points

I'll just leave this here... Cort Viola bass - £249, no mention of a case exact same bass from another FB seller, with a hard case - £160 I doubt he'll go that low, he may be the loveliest chap in the world but he's clearly in no hurry to sell.2 points

Yes - pretty much my experience, although it's not uncommon to talk about the bass - although almost always to do with looks and asking what it plays like rather than sound, which fits in with what everyone else is saying on this thread. Perhaps the exception is that I do play fretless a fair amount and people do comment on the fretless tone, although whether it's the actual tone or just the fact I sometimes ham up the "mwah" a bit to make it obvious...2 points

That's a matter of opinion and I think a habit or automatic assumption based upon relative quality available about 10 years ago. Well, maybe because I only gig 30-40 times a year then I don't wear them out as quickly as you To be honest, I thought the same. I have a 25 year old Squier bass with all original hardware. The hardware on my 40th anniversary is very good. Thinking about it... my go to had become my Flea signature, as it is such a low stress instrument to play. But of late I'm increasingly turning to my Sire. I've recently realised I am playing my £70 Harley Benton kit P-bass with a £30 Squire neck because it's so nice to play and it sounds killer...2 points

I've been playing this all afternoon. it's rapidly becoming my GOAT. It's lighter than the NS5-XL I had, that was '05 too. @cetera' s recommendation of keeping the bridge DC is making sense. An hour or so ago, I switched to the Amber Euro4 with the LHZ-03 and it feels like a toy compared to this (in a good way obviously). This 5 has that acoustic resonance without being plugged in that people talk about. Through the "house rig" (MarkBass head plus BF TWO10 with an HX Stomp), it's just gorgeous and every note on every string and fret rings out. For those that don't like Spector, it's got a Spector neck profile, it's got a long reach and an overly hot preamp. It's an LHZ-03 and a 40P5 away from being a signature instrument to my taste 😆2 points
