Tonight, Royal Blues at Katzspace, London Bridge, that London. Surprisingly packed for a Wednesday night, but we're doing quite well. It's original material, I use the term Americana, otherwise I'd have to say it's a bit blues, a bit roots, a bit country, a bit rock. Ibanez UB804 (EUB) - Swiff wireless - venue DI. The monitor mix was good and it sounded great FOH. Footwear black suede brothel creepers. And Leeds won 2-0 so even better! 💙💛💙💛. 😁 View from the stage14 points

New bass day! I acquired this Wilcock Mullarkey yesterday and took it with me to rehearsal - what a lovely and well-built instrument! Dare I say even better than my Serek…12 points

After having had the new strings sitting looking at me for the last three months today I plucked up the courage to make the change. Followed the video posted by Kevsy71 and had no issues - the whole swap taking about 40 minutes. Now rate my peg box 😂6 points

Great success! Bass now silent, unless I don't want it to be. Pots arrived, but got band rehearsal tonight so will have to wait until tomorrow.6 points

Good practice last night in one of Bristol's sketchiest rehersal places. Could hear rats, plugs falling off the walls. I had a big Peavey 215 to go through, so I wasn't that bothered 😅 I'll preface this next bit with a bit of context. I'm in a doom band and crushing amounts of low end are required. I finally found a fault with my Digbeth head - it's too light. It kept trying to vibrate off the cabinet all night! I had to tilit it back on the handle of the cab to stop it falling off 😂 It was a good practice though. We'd not played for a couple of weeks, and it was in the studio last, so it was nice all being back in the room again. Got a gig tonight as local support for Dopethrone, so should be a fun one!5 points

I have transcribed loads of Anthony Jackson but today, after listening to him for 40 years or more, I have finally noticed a mistake. At 5:09 on this big band video from 1994, in the tune 'Why Not', AJ hits a wrong note. I couldn't believe it. 'kin lightweight! There is hope for me yet!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88-Xz5fUFKg4 points

2020 GPS Corvette $$. Amazingly versatile, plays like butter. Haven't been able to find many others with this finish, but doesn't appear to be a Special Edition.4 points

Just to dredge this up from the archives, I got my 400rb from ossyrocks and eventually I managed to get a GK cx210 cab to go with it for a decent price. I also refreshed the 400rb, respraying the cover plate black, touching up the white decals that had scratched off and popping it into a SKB flight case. Oh my it sounds glorious. Even into a 8ohm cab it has plenty of volume as far as I can tell. I need another cx210 cab to make a 4x10 4ohm stack now. Total outlay on GK gear now £610. 400rb, cx210 and MB112mk2. So so cheap!3 points

Bilbo slept like a log. I found a mistake in a Geddy Lee performance the other day. It's in the transcription - I can't just change notes willy nilly. That way lies chaos! AJ's boo boo was live, though, so no possibility of fixing it in the mix!3 points

Music Man StingRay Special 4 Charcoal Sparkle £1800 Serial number F81378 Up for sale is this 2018 Music Man Stingray Special in the stunning and now discontinued Charcoal Sparkle finish. This was made in 2018, the first year of the newly redesigned lightweight, StingRay Special basses with an 18 volt preamp. The body is made from lightweight swamp ash (not the ‘selected hardwoods’ of the later versions) and the fretboard is ebony on a smooth, fast, roasted maple neck. The bass also comes with an excellent Zero Mod thumb-rest. This StingRay is in very good condition with just some minor plectrum wear to the pickguard and some very superficial finish wear to the brushed metal plate the tone knobs are mounted on which is hard to capture on the photographs. The hard shell case is also in very good condition. A great looking, great sounding bass. It’s a sleek and contoured delight to play, and sounds fantastic in a live setting. Cash on collection only please as I don’t want to courier this, especially since reading all the horror stories on this forum about sending basses. A half way meet up is a possibility if you’re in the South East. I’m not interested in trades. Any questions, please let me know. Here's a link to my previous feedback as a Basschat seller for assurance of a clean and honest transaction: Feedback for EdLib-3 - Feedback - Basschat2 points

Squier 40th Anniversary Gold Edition Precision Bass Really good condition P Bass. Played and gigged a few times, but recently moved to a short scale Ibanez as a change of pace and have come to accept that my hands are tiny, so I'll need short scales in my future. £300 obo Portsmouth collection please, can't do postage on this one.2 points

Ibanez AGB200-TBR (Transparent Brown) Overview The Ibanez AGB200 Electric Bass from the Artcore series features an 30" scale for easy fingering. The semi-hollow body construction increases sustain and combines with the double humbuckers for an unmistakable "roots rock" sound. Super-stable Gibraltar III bridge. Maple top, back and sides. Ibanez AGB200 Features: Neck type: 3pc Artcore Bass Mahogany/Maple neck Body: Maple top/back/sides Frets: Medium frets Bridge: Gibraltar III bass bridge (19mm string spacing) Tailpiece: Quik Change III bass tailpiece Neck pickup: ACHB-2 neck Bridge pickup: ACHB-2 bridge Scale: 770mm/30.3" Width at Nut: 42mm Thickness at 1st fret: 21.5mm Thickness at 12th fret: 25mm Radius: 305mm In good overall condition. Some marks to the body but minor and hard to show in photos. Bass looks almost black throughout but in-light photos (at end) show the translucent brown finish. The bridge pickup has suffered some significant chrome-loss with string lines showing and wearing down toward the brass; but both pickups (and electronics) work fine and the bass has a low, even action which is easily adjusted with the split bridge. There's also some 'wear' / finish loss to the gold hardware. Would benefit from some new strings - ideally short-scale (30") but it does accept std. scale strings OK (light guage). These early(ier) models seem to available mainly from Japan with somewhat high asking prices.2 points

It’s not as big as a real one! Typical of Behringer they’ve copied the on/off button but as it doesn’t operate with a battery option the switch is pointless whereas it’s a really useful addition on the originals (you can keep the bass plugged into the pedal and it won’t draw power).2 points

Just to let the readers of this thread I had the pleasure of meeting Simon (the OP of the thread) and to see the many double basses he has. It’s quite an eclectic collection with something for everyone. I pleased to say I purchased a loverly double bass (to replace my dead , beyond economic repair laminated DB!!) and we agreed a great price. So if London is not too far for you and you need a double bass I would suggest you contact him soon before they’ve all gone!2 points

To be fair, from that description it seems like a very faithful copy all round!2 points

I've taken the A/B switcher out, it's not powered and not essential. Moved stuff around to add the Brassmaster, also put chorus after the Mojo Mojo.2 points

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I bought a kaput 700rbii off ebay for around £50 a few years ago. I did a DIY fault check working front to back and established that the preamp and DI worked fine. Upon connecting a cheap speaker to the output I heard a loud thud through the speaker; I assume it's gone DC at the output. Our local amp tech had a quick look and issued an I won't charge anything but cease and desist...he said the transformer is fine, keep it for spares. He felt that digging through the pcb wouldn't be cost effective compared to buying a second hand working amp. A different repair company quoted me £150 to fix the amp presumably gone DC. Obviously I was chuffed to drop on a new power amp module from Polar last week for £49. I now have 2 working 700rb amps. So the dead module is free to anyone, would be good for a tech-y 700rb owner to cannibalise or fix.2 points

Mine arrived yesterday... didn't work properly. A strange dead battery/step filter noise. It's going back, but only after the shop trying to tell me it wasn't designed for bass...2 points

No, the problem with caustic is it is VERY fast, so use very dilute and tip into a boiling water & vinegar solution to stop the reaction. It actually dissolves the tiny 'tubes' of aluminium oxide that hold the die. Too much will strip to bare aluminium. So a weak solution until a bit of die leaches out. The vinegar neutralises and stops the process. The boiling reseals (what is left of) the tubes.2 points

I have a punt if I fancy the instrument on offer but this amounts to a quid a month or something. It's nice to ponder the what ifs. I guess it's Communism. We all put in and one of us gets the goodies. Like National Insurance and the NHS.2 points

It was only a matter of time. I just transcribed The Royal Scam by Steely Dan only to realise that I had already done it in 2020. Ironically (or not), they are different as I counted one at half the speed of the other.2 points

The perceptible differences between this Euro LX 5 (oiled) I have now and the NS5-XL (oiled) I used to have are: 1. Construction of the body wings. The US one had solid maple wings, the LX has Maple/Walnut/Alder sandwich wings. Not better/worse, just different. 2. Wood selection. The quilted maple on the NS5-XL was at the top end of the exquisite scale. It had OMG reactions from everyone. The aesthetic was a higher level. In practical, playability terms there's nothing in it. The Euro is lighter but I'm sure US ones vary from bass to bass. As far as build quality, I don't see a difference. The Euro 4 and Euro LX 4 I've got are what you'd expect from a custom built bass. At new prices of £2.6k-2.8k vs £6k-£7.2k you could buy 2 stunning new Euros and a monster second-hand rig for the price of 1 US. Again, we're into very subjective territory. To my mind, the USA ones are custom shop builds and come with all the superior woods and personalised options like pickup spacing, custom routing, unobtainium inlays, etc. Would I buy one? Yes, absolutely if it was used, the right price and "my vibe". Or my old 5 🙂2 points

Great basses, very unique sound, the most "Warwick" Warwick bass. Main con of the BO 5's is the neck dive. Its horrific and notably uncomfortable, at least on the ones I've owned/tried. I completely fell in love with a mid-00's one I had when playing with it sat down. When I put it on a strap, it was listed for sale the next day. NT models much improved. I haven't tried a post-2013 one so they may have improved it, definitely a try before you buy if live use is planned.2 points

It has an ash body in natural finish with two Texas Special single coils and an Atomic humbucker. The full spec is listed here https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratAmSANat--fender-fsr-american-special-stratocaster-hss-natural-ash-body. The guitar is available to try out here in sunny Cleethorpes or I can travel a reasonable distance to meet/deliver - please PM me to discuss options.2 points
