Massive rework of my board, from a DIY thing based on reclaimed 19" rack plates to this, utilising Rob's 3D printer and his patience! And the lights are on, I'm not convinced anyone is home though!9 points

My gig was my 3 people band (me-bass;guitar/vocal;drums) at the local studio. It was meant for 5 different bands each playing 20 minutes. Each band had a teacher for a different instrument. Our band drumer is a teacher for drums. The listeners where their students. Everething was ok.7 points

Hey everyone, Just wanted to share that we've had a couple of incidents recently involving 'middle man' scams. This is where someone has joined the site and registered a username that is almost identical to the name of an existing member, apart from changing characters in the name for ones that look similar but are different. For example, they might replace small L with a capital i, they might replace O with 0 or they might add a full stop at the end of the name. Changes insignificant enough to allow the scammer to take a punt on a buyer not noticing when they make contact via PM and eventually get them to send money. In our situation we believe that the scams are from one individual who has registered two accounts that emulate the names of existing members. We have already taken steps to ensure their accounts are frozen and we have accrued enough information to help us identify if that individual if they try to register more accounts in the future...they won't be able to hide behind a VPN either. We are also going to raise how to prevent spoofed usernames with our forum software provider as a future development suggestion. So...if you are PM'd separately by someone about an item they claim is for sale in the marketplace, check their user name carefully and if you have any doubts based on I or 0 or . in their username, maybe reply to them initially from their post in your thread rather than direct to their PM. That way you can check if your message adds to their message or starts a new one. Also if members spot anyone masquerading as someone else, feel free to use the report function to flag it with the mod team and we will take a closer look. It's probably also worth reminding everyone to avoid using bank transfer or Paypal F&F to a seller. These payment methods don't offer refund options in the event of there being an error. (Although if you are quick enough, sometimes your bank might be able to reverse the transaction but it depends on your bank and whether you can prove deception as opposed to a lack of vigilance.) Thanks in advance for your help in making life difficult for these scumbag parasites.6 points

An @rwillett 3D printed custom board. Rob can tell the whole gory story if he likes. Suffice to say that he is a scholar and a gentleman with the patience of a saint.6 points

I have stuffed too many basses under my side of the bed so this one has to go. It has been listed on basschat twice previously, the last time under 'Jazz Bass Bitsa - just a tad over 7lbs!! ' I have added an East J-Retro 01 preamp to it which cost me £125 from this forum. It's a great bass, really lightweight, really comfy to play, articulates well and the preamp adds more tonal control. If you don't want the preamp then it's £200, but I'd rather sell them together tbh so I'll give it a few days to sell together and if noone wants that then I will replace the preamp with the original loom. Thanks for looking. Collect from Leeds.6 points

ESP 800 Series JB For sale is my ESP 800 series Jazz Bass from 1991. These are quite rare. The bass has a beautiful transparent purple finish with matching headstock, a dot&bound neck, good quality gold plated hardware and reverse tuners. The body wood looks to be sen ash to me. The body and neck have pencil markings "messe ’91", which might mean that this was an exhibition model. The bass is in good condition. It has some playwear and small damages, but nothing serious imo. All hardware and electronics work like they should. The neck is straight and well adjustable. Playability is great with a low action. It’s a very good sounding instrument. I’d say it has a bit more clarity to the tone when compared to a regular specd alder body Fender. I actually A-B’d this one with a very good CS Fender I had, and they were equally nice. I preferred the slightly more musical clear highs of the ESP, so the CS went. Weight is not bad at 3,95kg on my kitchen scales. Down to €1.250 I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk and expense.5 points

Reporting in between sets: - people have clothing that looks like stolen from tablecloths with round prints (70's party) - quite a lot of noise (hard walls) - too many are sitting in their chairs (too many cars outside) - those having fun are really having fun (Yes, tonight it is ABBA, Chic, Boney M, The Bee Gees, The Trammps...)5 points

Selling my Fender Classic Player Rascal bass. Designed by Dan Smith at the Custom Shop and one of those bonkers rare short scale's. I'm mainly a Mustang guy, and one of my 'grail' basses have become available so this one needs to go sadly. In great condition, with one tiny mark that I've captured in one of the photo's. And I'll fling in a Fender gig bag with it. Based in Dumfries, but willing to travel an hour or two to meet someone halfway. And probably willing to discuss insured postage if as a last resort, that looks around £60 but I can check for a more accurate price on request. Give me a shout if anyone has any questions.3 points

Stray have bee asked to go on tour with British Lion this December. We'll be doing all 15 dates in December but not the November ones. Apparently the five London nights have sold out already. We supported them in Nottingham and Manchester last year and had a blast. To say we're excited is an understatement!3 points

A lovely Overwater progress iv Standard 5er from 2017. A dream of a bass. This one with figured Olive top. Weighing in at 4.3kg or 9.5 ib The actual bass featured in the video. One or two light marks, but other wise in really nice condition with Overwater hard case. I´m based in Norway, but due a visit home soon and will bring this by hand. Thanks for looking. Looking for decent jazz or a Glockenklang amp if a trade is of interest3 points

You've got a double whammy. The EBS cab is physically too small to have high sensitivity in the lows, the Elf isn't powerful enough to overcome that. The Streamliner can. I'd have no problem driving my 112 with the Elf, but my cab is nearly twice the size of yours.3 points

I know what you mean, my custom euro 435 has a similar black bridge which feels different than the chrome or gold (I guess the black is powder coated or painted whereas the gold and chrome is plated)3 points

Here's the current board - MIDI enabled, I switch patches on the FI and C4 from a FCB1010, which also gives me a couple of expression pedals. The SYB-5 usually has an expression pedal plugged into it too, and the Soundbox filter can have one too, if needed, to alter the filter sweep. The freeze and ditto are for my own amusement... One thing I have noticed, the FI has really fragile pots on it, so I'm going to have to repair it again and get it miniaturised so I can protect it more. I might even build a cage for the controls to protect them further. PSU is one of the Harley Benton ISO-10AC Pro ones, which I can't recommend enough - great PSU at an amazing price, built like a tank and silent. The HB switcher on here is pretty good, too, and does include midi, although I'm not using it. The cheap Kliq tuner turned out to be really good! Latest addition is the M-VAVE ANNBLACKBOX, which is *way* better than I expected. Really solidly built, the mobile app and PC editor are actually really good, and it can model amps and cabs. The on-device UI is actually quite good! Mono only, this isn't an HX stomp by any means, but the sound quality is good enough to provide occasional spooky reverbs and even some decent overdrive. Board was originally built for a synth / dance project (hence all the synth goodness) but it's proving very flexible. The weight, though... ha3 points

Hi Charlie, hope all is good with you? I love the irony here. My contribution was intended to steer us away from a technical issue back to giving the OP some simple advice. I seem to have set another hare running 😂 You are of course technically spot on. I hoped it was clear that I was using the term to describe a variable rheostat based l pad, which is how it had been used so far in this discussion 😉 Interestingly Wikipedia recognises that l pad is used differently when applied to loudspeakers. “A speaker L pad is a special configuration of rheostats used to control volume while maintaining a constant load impedance on the output of the audio amplifier.[1] It consists of a parallel and a series rheostat connected in an "L" configuration. As one increases in resistance, the other decreases, thus maintaining a constant impedance……” Anyway just to be clear L pad in my post was only referring to an adjustable rheostat based l pad which has no place in a truly frfr speaker but can be used to offer flexibility in a musical instrument cab. Neither is “wrong”, just different.3 points

I agree with @neepheid if I can bow out after years of success as “bang to rights” so can you. The ring of the cash register or the resounding thump of a “funds requested” email from PayPal in your guilty-as-trump inbox is the grim reaper of your hopes of staying off the naughty list, mister nb: I would have tried “I’ve always wanted a five string”, “I’ve never owned a sire”, “it’s my first red bass” and “I did also sell one beforehand for more £ so it’s really net-zero gain and thus technical abstinence” if I thought the jury would go for any of those. I thought it unlikely somehow3 points

Best value entry-level 5 string? I reckon so! This is an almost new Yamaha TRBX305 in some sort of metallic green/blue. I’m the second owner and bought this recently to try my hand at 5 string but it’s not for me. The bass is as new really, with no marks or damage anywhere. Even comes with the plastic on the knobs and the back plate. Its typical Yamaha build quality and sounds utterly amazing. £299 is a good price I think. Can post as I have a box (no hard case). Or collection from Bristol if that’s your thing.2 points

I've been looking to get a 5 for a wee while then I saw a local band a few weeks ago and the bassist was playing one of these. It looked and sounded great and in fact I thought it was something a bit exotic. After a bit of googling I realised it was a cort and a very reasonable price for what you get. Got it today. First impressions is it sounds great. The string spacing feels close so will take a bit to get used to but don't think it will take long as it feels pretty comfortable. Love the look of it though. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and it definitely wouldn't have been my cup of tea even 10 years ago, but amazing how tastes change!2 points

The chrome one is from my 2017 Euro 77, the gold one I got from Bass Direct in 2020 to replace the chrome one as gold hardware matched the walnut look better, in my opinion at least.2 points

I get that, but the flaw in your logic is that there's no benefit to pulling the full power from the Elf. All else being equal, and it never is, the difference in the potential maximum output of a 4 ohm versus 8 ohm cab with your amp is roughly 2dB. That's audible, but barely, and it assumes you actually need to pull all of the power out of the amp. You probably don't, and if for some reason you do a pair of 8 ohm cabs will go louder than one 4 ohm cab.2 points
-
If you want 4 ohms 'to get all the watts out of my amp' that's OK if you never need more than one cab. But if you do you won't be able to, as the ELF has a minimum load of 4 ohms. 8 ohms is more practical, and easier to find. As for 'small...with good lows' those attributes are mutually exclusive, so if you're going small you have to accept that it won't go as low as a larger cab.2 points

I think there's too much being read into the headstock colour. Look at the shadows. It's just being hit with a really bright (and probably quite cool) flash. It looks much more 'normal' here:2 points

I don't have children but the summer before last drove from Cardiff to Bangor. I had all day, took my time, drove up through the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia national parks. Probably the nicest drive I have done in the UK, especially as the next morning I went along the north coast back into England.2 points

(Voltage) Gain is output level divided by input level. Maximum output level it the voltage that an output can deliver without clipping. You can have high gain but all it does is clip because there’s not enough output level to reproduce the unclipped signal, that’s the basis for distortion pedals. The two parameters are relatively unrelated, you can look this up on a good engineering website.2 points

If it's anything like my my old original Musitronics Mutron III it inverts the phase, so a clean blend can actually make things worse, unless you have something like the Xotic X-Blender that has a polarity switch to flip it back again!2 points

I have played through the Digbeth at last year's SW Bass Bash and it's really sweet. Incredibly versatile and simple. I'm skint these days so settled for the preamp pedal, fed into the effects return of any amp it does the job. Highly recommended. However the best cabs I've played through without doubt are the LFSys built by our very own @stevie specifically because of the way they handle the high end.2 points
