Here's my homemade pedalboard. I'm now swinging both ways and playing guitar and bass. I prefer the sound of the guitar through the Tonex and the bass through the Mod Dwarf. So use the EHX box to mix. The third channel of the EHX box goes to a Mac for recording purposes. The Tonex has some lovely Fender amps which sound great with a Fender Tele or Strat. It's all driven through a Cioks DC-7 mounted underneath. Its bigger than it needs to be, I could save 2-3cm on the width, but its not a big deal. Its very, very solid. You can certainly stand on it, and we got up to 150Kg with zero issues, so possibly too solid Everything is printed including the cable management which nicely slots into the aluminium extrusion.10 points

NBD: Refin '65 Jazz. It's an awesome playing and sounding instrument. It has the most beautiful tort pickguard. It still has a brazilian rosewood fretboard, but pearl dots. The pots date to week 12 of 1965. It appears to be all original, except for a refinish and the screws that hold down the pickup covers (not pictured). Added nerd pictures that show how thoroughly the finish is stripped. There is no single sign to find of the previous (sunburst probably) finish that it started with. Or it started out as a blonde finish, which seems unlikely. In one of the pictures you see the round routermark on the back, which is also present near the back strapbutton. The square marking in the neckpocket is also a sign of authenticity. It's a pretty light bass too, that was an important feature on the checklist.9 points

A bit of an odd one last Friday for the seven piece swing/jazz standards band. ! 100 years ago North Bay was incorporated as a city and there are many events going on to mark this and we played at the Italian club's old style dinner dance at their hall. An hour of cocktail music and then they fed us and the 160 guests and at about 8:30 we started our dance sets that included some Italian songs. The crowd was older and although we had a few dancers and others who sat around to listen to us we knew it was going to be a earlier night than they planned. We played two sets and finished not long after 10:30. Great food(prime rib) and I had chats with some of the attendees so all in all not bad and the ten or so Italian tunes we learned went over OK and we had some compliments on our music. As usual my weapon of choice was my Shen SB100 straight into our Bose PA. We were set up in a corner in a fairly large hall so we had no idea how it actually sounded. Downside is that after 7 years as a band the drummer decided to quit the next day after enduring a lot of hassles and criticism from the trumpet player. I am also a target but so far I can handle it, she is a music teacher and sometimes likes to treat us like one of her school students. She is often right but her attitude is the problem and no one ever calls her on her mistakes, very frustrating but I like the rest of the band and the music so I am hanging in. We have a good dep drummer for the next couple of gigs in May and June and BL is starting a search for another drummer, the one who quit is very good and was an asset to the band. Life goes on.7 points

… so I was going to make a ‘Stealth’ all black board, but remembered whilst starting to assemble (with the Keeley Bassist Limiting Amplifier) that I had a Lusithand Alma Mk 2 in Chrome sitting on a shelf somewhere lol (my favourite comp and it’s British 🇬🇧 😎) so …6 points

The replacement value of my bass is £5400. No one is borrowing, playing or touching it, at our jam or at any other time, under any circumstances. The rule for our jam is you bring your own instruments, drumsticks etc and during the height of Covid singers brought their own mics, if they had them. Any idiot, drunk or not, can get up and damage your gear, so they are required to bring their own. It also ensures a better class of jammer turns up.6 points

I went to a jam night and it was brilliant. I played my Zebra Spector through the house Peavey Nitrobass head and 410. The soundguy told me it sounded epic - HAZ clone and EMGs on a neck-thru? Come on. I played 4 songs with people I'd not met before and very quickly felt like I'd been adopted. I ended up chatting with the regulars until nearly midnight. I really enjoyed myself and it taught me that it's possible to leave Gloucestershire and have a good time.5 points

ABBA / Cannibal Corpse crossover incoming! 😎 Apropos of nothing - I have just read that apparently there's a Mexican George Michael tribute who calls himself Carlos Whisper. If that's actually true, this thread's over.5 points

haha! its Ash here. I wrote the comment. I just tried to write it from all of us if that make any sense5 points

Exactly. Even if your bass isn't expensive, it's yours and you have the right to decide who, if anyone, plays it. I used to take a cheap eBay special to jams as a loan instrument. Several people turned up their noses at it and demanded to play my vintage Jazz or my Spector. Sorry, sunshine. Not happening.5 points
-
Why? What next? Should you lend a guy your car to get home after the jam because he hasn't brought the bus fare? When I've been the bassist at jam sessions, I've been quite happy for people to play through my rig (obviously), but they don't play my bass. Seems reasonable.5 points

Reluctantly selling my 1997 Alembic Rogue. Very good condition, and all original save for some copper foil pickup screening work that was done by Martin at The Bass Gallery. Mahogany body with flame maple top. Maple through neck and ebony fretboard. Neck and fretwork are excellent. Body bears a small amount of player wear but this blends in nicely with the oil finish of the wood. It comes with a Kinsmann semi-hard case which is in very good condition Weight - 4kgs Thanks for looking!4 points

We do in rehearsals! But it's done in a let's get better way and we also share what we are struggling with. The drummer and I are working on Hysteria which is causing us headaches...4 points

I have no horse in this race, but maybe this thread could be used to arrange a meet up of any BCers in the same boat as @kevin_lindsay with travel and accommodation already booked? When life gives you lemons, and all that?4 points

I went to a jam night tonight for the first time and it was fantastic. I was made to feel very welcome indeed, chatted to so many people. I did some songs with one of the Spectors and had a cracking night out. The sound was great, everyone was chilled, the music was good. I'm going back.4 points

Been meaning to put this up for sale. Amazing bass, really amazing in fact and I’ve been torn with deciding on selling but I have moved over to ultralight basses due to a shoulder and back injury, so I’ve decided it’s the right thing to do. That said this bass is only just over 8lbs. It has the Sandberg black label pickups, low Acton, fantastic low B on a 34” scale, the neck is joyous… I prefer it to my other Sandberg! More pics on request but it’s the one on the right with the Predator sticker now removed, and the original thread when I bought it is here, do read it - it’s a special one: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/367205-sandberg-classic-booster-5-custom-price-drop/?_fromLogin=1 Will post at cost or collect Plymouth - I’m in Birmingham 19/20 th April, have boxes, gig bag etc.3 points

I am a touring musician, songwriter and general music-playing/consuming derp with too many guitars and basses. I sing and play bass in a band called The Global Burn Theory, I like Glenn Hughes and Rex Brown just a bit too much, and my hair is roughly the length of a Leonard Cohen song. I will mostly be using this profile to sell basses/kit of mine that I no longer use, and to make room for more basses/kit that I will more than likely end up selling on, because I'm a bit of a pillock like that.3 points

If we make a mistake whether at a gig or rehearsal we accept it if the person in question is aware of it and it was just a "mistake" rather than playing it wrong and not knowing what was wrong. No point in dwelling on genuine mistooks. If its a recurring issue we would talk about it at a rehearsal or even on our private FB page but that's never really happened. Dave3 points

Playing in the house band at our open mic I was asked by another bassist if I would play his bass so he could hear what it sounded like (sigh). Cherry red P. As he handed it to me I only got a glance at the headstock and I thought I saw a circle with a ‘K’. Played a few runs on mute and the neck was ok. When I ‘pressed play’ it was awful. The two outer strings had no volume at all so you had to dig in to them. The two inner were so loud if you touched them they were overwhelming the band mix. The only ‘plus’ was that it was really light! Afterwards he thanked me and said how great it was sounding and as I handed the ‘Kay’s Copy’ back I noticed there was actually a pick in the strings over the headstock logo that made me think it was the Kay Logo. Underneath I saw an ‘F’ so asked him what it was. 1962 Precision was the reply. Owned since new he’d basically ‘given me a treat’ to play an awesome Vintage Bass! I was very thankful I’d thought it was a dog as it would save me thousands as I now didn’t want to own one! Unfortunately that was short lived as he brought its sister, a blonde 1962 jazz, to the next OM. That was LOVELY!3 points

At a jam a few years back, before the smoking ban, a friend was up using my back line. I usually go to the stage, between bass players, to help with the lead, EQ, tuning pedal etc. So I walked up to the amp to find a lighted cigarette on the side of the cab! It hadn't burned down far enough to cause any damage, but that’s what you can get when other people, even friends, use your gear!!!3 points

Or maybe 'busk' your own 'concert' quite close to theirs..? It won't take long for them to take the hint, with a suitable choice of instrument ...3 points

I've been extremely skeptical since it was first announced and how slow the information being shared was. Then when we got more detail the organisation on the day didn't seem to have any logic of clarity to it. Plus the shocking use of poor quality logos in the website just added to how unprofessional this was looking. The informal bass bashes organised by people voluntarily on here seem to have more thought into things.3 points

I can’t say I’m surprised, sadly. The BC collective’s initial gut reaction to this event does seem to have been spot on. I sincerely hope that any monies paid to the organisers is refunded in full and swiftly. 🤞3 points

Mmmm.....maybe theres a connection here 🤣 I've mentioned in previous posts / threads about this type of event and the way they drip feed the customer base with info about the event. We are a very niche hobby group spread out in all corners of the UK. Not everyone lives in London / Birmingham / Liverpool etc. and even if you do you still have to plan ahead and budget for albeit lower travelling / food / beer costs. Anywhere outside of these areas can be a significant outlay and all based on a notion that "something might happen". I'm glad I didn't commit to going as I would now be £500 out of pocket for transport & hotel, not a happy bunny and very unlikely I would consider going to another one if its run the same way. 😢3 points

My view has always been that if you are not prepared to let someone else play your bass, then you shouldn't take a gig as the bass player in the house band at a jam session.3 points

A house bass makes sense in a jazz context because we're often playing DB and having several of those hanging around is a bit of a nuisance, particularly in some of the cramped pub venues we have to play in. Recently I've been bringing an EUB I got cheaply on Ebay; it doesn't sound as good as the acoustic but will do for the jam, and in any case there are several players who turn up with bass guitars. When they want to play then the EUB fits nicely into a coat rack, out of the way. It is also easier to carry, which means I can bring guitar kit for the large part of the evening when a bass guitarist is up. My personal opinion, which others are sure to disagree with, is that anyone who plays guitar or bass guitar should bring their own to a jam and not complain if others aren't willing to hand theirs over to strangers in a pub.3 points

Stray have bee asked to go on tour with British Lion this December. We'll be doing all 15 dates in December but not the November ones. Apparently the five London nights have sold out already. We supported them in Nottingham and Manchester last year and had a blast. To say we're excited is an understatement!3 points

Yes, Jams can often be 'Cliquey'. We run one on a Sunday afternoon with a separate sound guy who generally keeps things in check. As the two professional musicians running it, we get off the stage as quickly as possible and spend the rest of the afternoon backing everyone else. Annoyances over the years? Yes, there's sometimes a player who turns up without an instrument - we've got a house bass, guitar, drums and keys for those eventualities. In the previous incarnation of the Jam, there was one annoying bloke who would always turn up empty handed and expected to play my bass, and didn't seem to understand that it was a professional instrument set up for me and no, he wasn't welcome to play it. You do tend to get the local blues/classic rock mob who insist on turning all the backline up and think that 109dB is perfectly acceptable, but you just turn them down again. Generally we aim to be very welcoming and supportive, always encouraging others getting up to play and backing others where needed.3 points

I followed the video and managed to get it working great. Tightened up the tuner itself, added graphite to the nut and tuned it as they show and it seems to be great now. Thanks all.3 points

Oi! That was one of my short-lived bands in the 00's. I used to play in a covers band and book bands at the pub I worked in, but the best local live music venue would only really do Tribute acts on Fridays and Saturdays. We thought, at the time, it was a clever send up of all the lazy tribute band names we saw advertised which may as well have just been "Not U2" , "Not...(Insert whatever band name)". What made it really subversive was that we would never play any Mott the Hoople...2 points

If she is willing to dish it out, then I would not be afraid to tell her what you've shared with us. The occasional mention of her more egregious errors would do no harm, especially if delivered with meticulous politeness and respect in a supportive manner "I could see you were having a few minor issues with that passage, have you considered...?"2 points

Immaculate EBS Fafner 2 in Gator 3u rack bag/case with EBS RM4 footswitch. In good working order and I had a new tube put into it in January. This amp is solid state in all its glory. It can do everything and will not break a sweat in any scenario. It has a tube drive section that can go from subtle grit to full blown fuzz and it even has the option to apply the tube to the clean channel for that extra warmth. It also has a great onboard compressor along with a multitude of EQ, character, DI and FX loop options. The Character, Filter, Drive and Mute functions can all be switched on and off with the RM4 footswitch which is also in good working order. The amp will deliver 310W into an 8 ohm load, 610W into a 4 ohm load and 750W into a 2 ohm load. This is a big solid state amp and it has outstripped every class D amp I have ever owned in terms of weight of notes and volume. The rack bag/case has a large external pocket (big enough to accommodate the RM4 footswitch along with power cable, instrument cable, speaker cables etc), front and rear zip panels and padded shoulder strap which makes carrying the amp easier. I absolutely love this amp, I really do think it’s the best amp I’ve ever owned. Both of my bands have moved to IEMs now so I only need a small amp with a small cab for stage monitoring, I just don’t need something as big and powerful as this any more, as much as it pains me to say it. Price includes shipping to locations within the UK. Collection is also possible, I live just outside Milton Keynes approximately 15 minutes from junctions 14 and 15 of the M1. I did the photos myself and I am blind, so my apologies if they look like they were taken by a drunk person.2 points

I'd be aggrieved having to buy a cheap bass off Amazon for the drunk greasy dipsticks to play. I'd sooner scour charity shops or car boot sales for something with 2 strings and a bowed neck with 1 inch action and a flaky pickup that only works half the time.2 points
